There is a well maintained soccer/football field with lines and field goal posts. It's surrounded by a quarter-mile track with a softer paved turf made for track and field competition. A multisport field sits in the middle of the complex where I've seen pick up soccer games, lacrosse practice and ultimate frisbee among other things played. At the end closest to the middle school is a large baseball field and a smaller field probably for softball and kickball. The parking area directly in front of the fields is usually opened at dawn but is small. For bigger events you can park at the middle school and walk a paved path less than a mile long from there to these fields. The path passes a wetland area with an unofficial nature trail through it (that probably gets really muddy after a rain). It's a great spot to go and get fit, especially now as COVID has the school closed giving more time for public use of the fields. I even saw a proposal on the city of Charlotte page to one day turn this into a more official Olympic grade sports training complex. Would be cool to see if that happens.

It's a very quiet, quaint and beautiful park tucked in the heart of Pineville, just behind the police station. There is a path which the website says is 1.5 miles. Having walked it, even down the several disjointed sections, I found it to be barely one mile. So, I'm not sure where the other half mile comes from. The grounds are beautifully maintained with crepe myrtle trees aplenty, lots of paved space, flower beds and solid brick buildings. Three baseball fields (technically one and two softball fields), a multipurpose soccer/football/etc. field in the back, a huge painted metal playground and a large steel and concrete bridge over a big creek. The parking lot is huge and well maintained too. There is a train track running just alongside and a few old mill towers and water towers in view. This is arguably the perfect park representative of rural America, despite not being quite so rural compared to when it first opened in the 60s. When there aren't games here, which is most of the time, it's almost dead empty and eerily quiet. If that's your style, you should absolutely pay it a visit.

You down with OPP? Yeah you know me!…read more Now that I got that out of the way, Olde Providence Park (OPP) is a pretty neat and rather large park tucked into the back of an old neighborhood. Seems to have a lot of history in the area and you can tell the facilities and ball parks have been here a while. It's also conveniently connected to an elementary school for the kids to use during the school day. There are at least seven baseball fields and three full playgrounds. There's one large open field area that could easily be used as a small soccer field. My favorite feature is a meandering nature trail that runs through the forested area around the back and sides of the park. Along the trail you can even find two large seating areas for outdoor classrooms and nature-based learning. The parking situation seems limited as you're using the school's lot and the bathroom facilities were closed on a day when no games were happening. Good thing they also had a porta-potty out there. For a Sunday afternoon "walk in the park" though, this place is great. Quiet and peaceful.

It has a lot of mountain biking trails, but we were just hiking. The lake is really pretty and some of the trails go right along it. I'm not sure if we followed an actual predefined hike, but I think we walked for about 4 miles which is pretty good for a Charlotte park. I have taken my girls here many times to practice and have not been dissapointed. They can handle individual practice or team practice with the amount of space and equipment. Lots of protective gear available like the L-shaped nets and full floor-to-ceiling nets covering smaller areas to allow for many activities to be on-going in parallel. T-ball stands, and auto-pitching machines are available too. They have COLD drinks for only $1 available and are super friendly and local. Love it and can't wait for next season!

The three ball fields are 320 feet, 275 feet and 225 feet. That's a good variety for players from high school down to little league. Dirt infield is in excellent condition and there are backstops. The areas for parking can get a bit complex and overrun at times when there is more than one little league game or youth soccer match happening at the same time. At the moment, I don't have a dog but when she moves to Charlotte I will be looking to bring her here for a whole lot of running about. Volleyball courts, tennis courts, picnic tales, a massive gated playground area and tons of parking. The ballfields are currently marked off for repair, but that's a small detail. I did see a few of Charlotte's finest with their K-9 partners that were parked and doing some sort of exercise. And here's your history lesson. William Davie (1756-1820) was one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. He was the tenth governor of North Carolina and was instrumental in the Battle of Charlotte in 1780, where his force of 150 men held off more than 2000 Redcoats. A true Charlotte hero! Great, great, GREAT park.

There is a walking path along White Street that goes through here and that may be useful if you're looking to get some fresh air.
