Here's the thing, if you want to close the kitchen at 9:45pm then say that. Don't advertise you close at 11 but really stop serving at 9:45pm. People use closing times to plan their night and when you're not up front about the actual closing time, it makes for a very frustrating experience. Stopped by Ballast Point in Downtown Disney for lunch after spending the morning at DCA. We were looking forward to grabbing a good meal and a couple of beers before heading back into Disneyland. We ordered wings (which we'd heard were great) and beers through the mobile app on the patio. When our server brought the drinks, he asked for IDs. I explained that I didn't bring my wallet into the park and use my mobile wallet for all payments. I showed a picture of my ID, but he said it wasn't acceptable. For context -- I was there with my wife (who had her ID), our two kids, and I'm a bald man with a white beard. Clearly not underage. What made it worse is that two beers had already been served and our food order was placed -- so everything just went to waste. The policy ended up costing not just us as customers, but also the restaurant in lost product and potential repeat business. I understand verifying age is important, but this is where corporate policy and management discretion should meet common sense. Ballast Point's corporate team should empower their staff to make judgment calls in obvious cases like this. I'm a longtime fan of Ballast Point -- I've been to their Miramar location many times and love Sculpin IPA -- but this experience was frustrating and disappointing. Ballast Point is a great spot to slow down from the bustle of Disney and catch your breath. The atmosphere is chill with a good soundtrack and they have an extensive beer menu (way longer than the food menu but no complaints). Our server, Mike, was helpful and knowledgeable on the menu options and I ultimately landed on the Carne Asada Flatbread Pizza. We ordered the Loaded Steak Fries. Which came out 15 minutes before the rest of us got our food. The meat was extremely overcooked. Also the fries were missing the parmesan, which the waitress recommended. The Ballast Point burger was very tasteless. The Sourdough Pretzel was average. We also ordered a Strawberry Margarita and asked for a Tajin rim. The drink was good but they charged a $1 extra for the Tajin rim! Overpriced food and crazy up charges. We had dinner here last night (Friday), and unfortunately, it was a very disappointing experience. Even though the restaurant wasn't busy, it took about 25 minutes for our food to arrive -- we ordered a hamburger and fish tacos. We also tried the lime margarita and the sangria. Sadly, everything we ordered was both overpriced and poorly made. The drinks were mostly ice and tasted terrible, and the food was honestly some of the worst we've had -- bland, low-quality ingredients, and unappetizing overall. We felt unwell for the rest of the night. We get it -- people don't come to Disneyland or Downtown Disney expecting world-class cuisine, and I don't usually leave reviews. But this place was so bad, I felt I had to say something. If you do decide to visit, maybe stick to just a beer. One more thing: when paying the steep bill, the suggested tip starts at 18%, which seems to be becoming the norm in LA, but felt frustrating after such a poor experience. Not only was she a great server in general but at one point when I complained about the soap dispenser in the lady's bathroom not working, she got someone to change the batteries immediately and when that didn't work, she came into the bathroom with me and physically squirted the soap into my hands herself. My friend and I had an excellent experience at Ballast Point Brewing Co. on Tuesday night. After a long day in the park, we were able to immediately be seated at the bar for dinner. Front of house staff was very nice and welcoming. Upon sitting, we were greeted by Kyle at the bar who was phenomenal and went above and beyond. Some of the greatest service I've ever had by any bartender or wait staff ever. We loved the pretzel with the fathom beer mustard which came out hot and very quickly, and the beer, burger, and chicken sandwich were all hits in our book. The fries were also freshly made and delicious. Kyle even put my iced tea in a to-go cup for me. I will be coming back to Ballast in the future. Highly recommend! A chill atmosphere. Our server was ok for most of the time but messed up one of the kids' orders and daughter's receipts. Our orders came as fast as they can serve them on a busy night. Honestly really solid restaurant in Downtown Disney. We came on a Sunday, around 5pm, we were expecting to wait a long time but we literally only waited like 5 minutes so that was already a plus. For drinks we ordered the slush of the day, blueberry lemonade cider and the horchata cocktail. All of them were amazing, would recommend them all. To eat we had the Nashville hot wings to start, the rub on them were really good and they had a lot of meat on them. Main entrees we had the burger and the chicken sandwich. Both were real flavorful and the fries were perfectly cooked. The service was both friendly and quick. The vibes were very modern, and the big windows made the views that much better. Walking around downtown Disney trying to find somewhere to eat around 9:20pm and we realized they had a ballast point (one of the few places open later). We were seated immediately as we didn't have a preference for seating. We ordered the carne asada nachos and substituted the nacho chips for fries and a cheeseburger. The carne asada fries are definitely meant to be shared between 2-3 people. The prices are reasonable based on the portions you are getting. Everything tasted good and we didn't have to wait long for our food to come out. They had music playing in the background at just the right volume to enjoy it and hear the people next to you. The line at Salt & Straw was insane so we decided to grab some drinks & small bites at Ballast Point while we wait. Second floor, patio seating & seat yourself. Use QR code on the table to order. Conveniently, you can do a group order or individually. We got a few Aloha hard lemonades & a couple of IPAs. Not much of a drinker but my friends enjoyed it. I came for the snacks. The hot honey flat bread (sub cauli crust) was delish. Watch out for the fresno chilies - it is spicy! But I'm here to rave about the crispy garlic parmesan lemon pepper chicken wings with ranch. $20 for an order with about 8 wings. Not sure if I tasted garlic parmesan, but they did top it with grated parm, it was more lemon peppery but it was so crispy yet juicy & flavorful on the inside. I would 100% get this again. Service was okay. It's hard to get a server to comeby and get water, napkins, & sauce refills since you're stuck with that QR code. But I love it here. They also validate your DTD parking. I am at a brewery. In what world does the food arrive before the beer? First courses finished before the beer arrived. Food was meh but the beer...well its ballast point - when it came it was amazing. Very strange and disappointing. If you are going to have a flagship store for a company that' makes some of the best beer in the world - the food has to step up to the beer....and of course the beer should be served. What on earth has happened to this place? I've been a loyal customer for 7+ years, and last night was hands down the worst experience I've ever had at Ballast Point. Last night's "service" (if you can even call it that) was an embarrassing display of laziness, favoritism, and unprofessionalism that would make even a dive bar ashamed. Our bartender, Sidney, took our order, dropped our drinks, and then apparently decided we no longer existed for the rest of our hour-and-a-half visit. We had to flag down three different people just to get more drinks and eventually our check, while Sidney was busy leaning on the bar, loudly cursing, gossiping about boyfriends, and bragging about other bars she works at. This is supposed to be a family-friendly establishment in a Downtown Disney, yet every other word out of her mouth was profanity, which is a bold choice when your bar is surrounded by families at Disney! To make matters worse, when a new couple sat next to us, she was suddenly the most attentive bartender on the planet--checking on them every five minutes while our table was treated like we were invisible, unworthy of her attention and service (mind you, we're sitting at THE BAR so she passed us every minute). At one point, I flagged down another girl (the one with glasses who seems surgically attached to Sidney's hip which I'm sure management is aware of) and ordered a 16 oz drink. She came back with an 8 oz--after laughing and chatting with Sidney the entire time she was supposed to be pouring it. When I called her on it, she shrugged and said, "My bad, I heard 8." Really? Either your hearing is shot or your professionalism is. Neither is acceptable. Eight doesn't sound like sixteen. Let's be real--it was intentional. This isn't just bad service--it's intentional neglect from staff who make it clear which customers they deem "worthy" of their time and which they can't be bothered with. Ballast Point used to have standards. Now it's staffed by bartenders more interested in their chatting about their social lives and weekend jobs than the people sitting right in front of them. It's honestly sad to see how far Ballast Point has fallen. This used to be a place I'd proudly recommend. Now it feels like a playground for unprofessional, rude, and selfish bartenders who abandon their customers to go hug and chat with their friends, curse like sailors, and give attitude to paying customers. After this experience, I won't just stop coming--I'll actively tell everyone I know to avoid this sinking ship until the bar is cleaned out and rebuilt with staff who can handle the basic concept of customer service without rolling their eyes or short-pouring drinks. read more
