I normally love this place but I think the covid check in process deserves a review. I was able to waitlist myself on the yelp app at 530PM and was told to arrive by 6:15PM to check in. When I checked in, I was quoted a 45 min wait time from there, but it was more like 2 hours. It wasn't until 8PM that I was seated. You can order by scanning a QR app and pay on the spot. It's then brought out to you. This was wonderful. I appreciate being able to dine outdoors, regardless. read more

Finally. I have almost come here 3 other times by finally made it. Came in for lunch on a Monday and immediately grabbed an upstairs patio seat. Service was good and immediate...no complaints there. Views amazing. It is very much your typical brewery but I found the food to be very well prepared and everything tasted above average. Had the BP Red Chili fries, the BP lemon pepper wings, and the Crispy Poke Bowl(star of the night). I was very pleased with everything and thought the lemon chicken was one of the best I ever tasted. They nailed the seasoning. Tried a few of the brews but ultimately settled on the Fathom IPA which was the highlight of my beer experience there. Will be back soon. Like other reviews stated, service is pretty much non existent. I'll start by saying I've been in the bar/restaurant industry over 20 years, and currently run a bar in seal beach. So, I'm generally very understanding. The girl that took my order seemed annoyed that I was there. My food came out pretty fast, so it was weird that it wasn't warm. Food was edible, but not great. I was so hungry I ate it anyway, because no one ever checked in with me. I counted 9 people working FOH and yet no service? It was a Monday afternoon, so they were not busy I would've ordered another drink, but no one checked on me until it was time to pay. I felt bad leaving an 18% tip, cause I usually tip 30%+, but it's some of the worst service I've had in a very long time. read more

If I could live at Ballast, I would. Parking is decent. Uber and Lyft can easily find you. Ambiance is incredible - check out the roof if it's not closed for a private event. The roof is hands down my favorite date night spot. You can cozy up with your favorite beer, under mood lighting, overlooking the marina. If you need food, there are servers around willing to fill your belly. The beer. Do NOT stay put at one bar. When you look at the menu, pay attention to the small details next to the individual beers. You'll notice "M" "R" "P" which stand for locations. Take this as a scavenger hunt if you'd like. My favorite? I like to half and half a mango even keel with a habanero sculpin (it tastes like a chili mango lollipop). Usually, these are both on the roof. But I was thrown a curveball and the roof had a different spicy beer, so I went for it. There's a curry beer, don't order anything larger than a taste of it. I'm warning you. I was curious too... It's flavorful, but incredibly filling. Dinner in a beer is weird (okay?!). The food. I've had wings and fries here. Terrible service. Overcrowded. Overrated. Need I say more? This place is hyped up because it's a huge place, near the water, okay view w/ a wide balcony, and a good selection on draft. I was here on a Friday night, so the place was packed with people. Surprisingly there were still empty tables if you wanted to sit down and have a bit. The line to order food, however, was about 15-20 people long. Food wasn't anything special, just overpriced. I dropped $40 for the typical fish & chips ($18) and 2 draft beers. I mean I will give credit where it's due - which to be fair, their draft beer was pretty good; a good variety and some great choices for dark beers. Service wasn't great either. The person who took my order was very rude, had to repeat everything I ordered like 3 times because HE WASN'T LISTENING AND WAS DISTRACTED by his coworkers. Just rude. Ballast point is always one of my go to's and if you like good beer, a nice view and decent food, then definitely check it out. Came here on a Saturday night (first time since post COVID), where they opened at 4. Arrived at 4:10 and there was already a long line waiting to get in. We were directed by the host that we would probably not get seated and to check in on the Yelp waitlist. After doing so, we were 17th. Due to COVID, they are only seating outdoors and the particular day I went, the upstairs was closed. We waited for almost 2 hours and didn't get seated until almost 6pm. Lesson learned: get on the Yelp check in list as early as you can. Host and waiters were really upbeat and ready to help. We got seated next to the fire pit so it wasn't as cold, but make sure to bring a jacket. They have heating lamps by most tables, so if you find yourself freezing, just ask a server to bring one over. Drinks Ordered: - Grapefruit Sculpin IPA - one of their staples and I definitely recommend - Manta Ray Double IPA- higher ABV, also a good choice Food ordered: - Ballast point burger: perfectly cooked, comes with fries, always delicious. 9/10 - Pork Belly sweet potato fries: indulgent and savory. These would have been better if they hadn't gotten cold so fast due to the wind, but will definitely try again. 7/10 - Calamari- lightly breaded and perfectly fried. Not over battered or chewy. Sauces were also good. 10/10 recommend - Brussel Sprouts- not really a brussel sprouts fan, but these were decent. 7/10 Overall, ballast point is a good hangout spot for any occasion. I went here to grab lunch the other day and was pleasantly surprised! I have been before, but just for the view, to be social and grab a drink. The chicken sandwich and garlic fries were out of this world! It came out quickly, the chicken was delicious and the fries were equally as yummy. I would have loved to have a coke with it, however they only have pepsi products (not a fan, personally). They are handling reopening really well, and are adhering to the cdc regulations. The system in place is through your phone to minimize contact, which was weird but made sense. The young man that brought us our food was kind and friendly which is always nice! It is a nice location for Ballast Point. It over looks the ocean and they have an upstairs patio. The taproom where you enter is spacious but it is very loud in there and the noise bounces off the walls. Plenty of seating though. There is parking but it can be hit or miss to find parking since it's in the marina and that is a popular place to hangout and other places are there too. They have food. But I felt it was a little overpriced but the beer is reasonably priced. And there is tons of selection. You can even taste if you are undecided between two different ones. read more

This place never gets old. They have great burgers amazing fries and awesome customer service. I've come here twice both times alone one before Covid and just the other day during Covid. The customer service is still top-notch and this time I feel that the customer service was even better. I was assisted several times by almost every server. The only downside was away prior to my meal but I reserved a spot for hours before The waitlist was closed. I love this place and I'm not even a local. I will definitely be back and I appreciate all the hard work that their team has done to get this to run smoothly. The good: The view. The beers selection. The bad: I was there on an afternoon during the holiday week. Perhaps busier than usual for a weekday afternoon? But certainly nowhere near a packed house. I cannot remember ever having such poor service at a restaurant. I can only surmise that the QR ordering system is a mistake. It has made the servers careless or lazy or both. After the beers came out, we had to follow-up on our food order numerous times. The small overpriced ($17!) basket of chicken wings was dry. And the mediocre fries did not come out after we were done with the wings. Nobody ever came to the table to check on how things were going. To add insult to injury, the billing system defaults to a 20% tip. I don't mind tipping that and often more for good service. But, even though I didn't do it, it's the first time I've been tempted to tip 0% for the level of service we received. read more

Decided to stop by here to celebrate a friend's birthday and he as a beer lover he chose this place himself! I have never been here but have heard great things. We came about 1.5 hours before closing but it was still crowded! He wanted to show us the view but it was extra chilly the night we came but I could see that during the day and sunset just how pretty it could get. I could see too that if you didn't get lucky finding a seat could be an issue too. As a noob beer drinker who doesn't prefer beer, I appreciated that they had other drinks to pick from like wines and sours. I got the black berry sour and it was pretty good! My hubby and i came from Vegas and whenever we're in the OC area, we make it a point to drop at our fave sunset spot in LBC, Ballast. Knowing that we now have a new normal, we put ourselves on a waitlist 4 hours before our planned arrival. We drove 45 mins from OC and upon arrival, we were greeted by a Douchebag host who doesn't really give a flying F about the patrons. Not sure what Ballast is thinking but that boy had no sense of customer service whatsoever. He told us that the "algorithm" somehow kept still at 130 minute wait although we started on a wait list 4 hours before. We generally have a really good experience with BP and the only thing I'd say to the management is to rip that one bad apple because sometimes that rotten apple can have a ripple effect on the entire tree. 7/24/2020 Saturday. I have been a fan of Ballast Point beer for quite a while now, and sure, it started only because I love their labels/brand identity, but developed into much more! I recently found out that they had the brewery in Long Beach so my boyfriend, his friend and I ventured down to check it out this past long weekend. We arrived right as they opened at 11am, and checked out the entryway where they have a small gift shop and pirate themed decor. We were greeted and told we could order at the main bar indoors and take a seat, or head to the upper bars outside. We decided to go to the upper bar on the top deck, overlooking the water, and it was such a great decision. We headed up to the bar to make our selections, and you can just open your tab then and keep going back and forth during your stay. I opted for my favorites, the California Amber and the Victory at Sea, and my boyfriend tried one of their newer drafts, the Red Velvet. They were all so good, and hearty pours for really reasonable prices ($5-$7 each) We ordered some steak nachos for the tables, which were incredibly flavorful. I decided on the white BBQ and bacon burger, and what a great decision that was! The burger has candied bacon, pepper jack cheese, crispy onions and this amazing, smoky white BBQ sauce. Totally hit the spot while we enjoyed the outdoor patio and sipped on our beers. I can't wait to go back! I'd love to head back to watch the sunset sometime. This establishment + manager Kristan Gatz, supports physical and verbal assault. I came with 2 other friends over the weekend and got verbally assaulted by a group of guys who got upset because my group was unwilling to move in order to accommodate their group (this place is first come, open seating). I call over the manager, Kristan Gatz, with the sole intent to have this increasingly aggressive and drunk group kicked out. She is highly incapable of managing, as she gave excuse after excuse as to why she couldn't remedy the situation by removing this group. She even went as far as to say that even if they were to punch and get violent, she would not have kicked them out. Her best solution was to move my group (which we refused because that was the whole reason why this incident began). We are all paying customers, and I will not give my money to a business that sides with aggressors. There is no excuse for their behavior, and even less for Kristan's decision to not kick this group out. Kristan's inability to resolve this issue and hold the aggressive group accountably for inexcusable actions, shows me exactly how this establishment is ran, with poor service starting at the top. I highly DO NOT recommend coming to an establishment that condones physical and verbal abuse. read more

It was my first time coming to this location. And first time coming in the receptionists did not even bother to acknowledge us. They were just talking to each other. But walking around on a Saturday night it was pretty busy so it took us a while to find seats. We looked upstairs and downstairs as well but we found seat at the side bar downstairs. Caesar ended up being our bartender for the night. We ordered both food and drinks. I wasn't too happy to be sitting at the bar but because it was so busy I didn't think we would be able to get a table. After Caesar's amazing customer service I was really happy we decided to sit at the bar. I had ordered a hard Kombucha which was only served at the main bar and I just wanted to taste test it and he was kind enough to get it for me. When I decided to stick to the pineapple kombucha he went to grab it for me. My boyfriend ordered the banana cider which was so smooth and had such a great taste. As for food, We ordered the south west burger and the vegan burger. And by far the best vegan burger I have ever had in my life. I have had my fair share of vegan burgers and this one tasted amazing!!!! Caesar constantly checked if we were okay and he is by far the best server we've had! We drove about an hour to come here with some friends to spend a relaxing Sunday evening drinking beer while overlooking the water. Unfortunately the staff here completely ruined my evening and I never even had a chance to sit down with my friends. This place was extremely busy and I waited in line for 15-20 minutes to get a drink. I got to the bar to order and they asked for my ID, which I already had out and ready for them to check. I then see my ID being passed around to 5 different employees and am waiting there for 5 minutes as I watch all of them inspect my ID. Finally, a woman at the bar returns my ID and very rudely tells me that it seems fake. I am 29 years old and have no reason to have a fake ID and have literally never had any issues before this. My boyfriend asked her how it seems fake and she offered a vague explanation that it just looks weird. They said they would not serve me, so I went to my table with my friends and explained the situation. We found an ID in my friend group that looked like mine that they had accepted and brought it back to the bar. The employees continued to argue with me and my friend and we just asked that they scan it to confirm it was real. They finally agreed and took my ID and disappeared for 5 to 10 minutes. The manager, Kendall, came back and said "This just looks fake. The photo looks weird." Clearly they did not scan it and are now lying. She then says that because she believes it is fake, they are going to confiscate my ID. Since it is actually real, I insist that I am not leaving without my ID. She told me that they can call the cops and they can come check it. I agreed to this so that I could get my ID back. She was visibly shaking even though I was calm and wasn't screaming at her. She took my ID and ran off. We waited for another 15 to 20 minutes with no sight of Kendall. We ended up tracking down the front desk person to try to ask what was going on because at this point everyone was ready to leave and I just needed my ID back. We finally had a security guard named Adam come out and ask us what was going on. We explained the situation and he assured me that he would try to get an update. He comes back and has my ID. He said Kendall still had not called the cops and if she did, it would be another 20 to 40 minutes. I did not feel like waiting at this point so he offered my my ID back and apologized that this escalated beyond what was reasonable. Thank you, Adam, for being understanding and the only person who seemed to care about the customer experience. Ballast Point, the fact that you are such a huge establishment and clearly have no ID scanners and your employees are trained so poorly is very disappointing. Especially because they were so incredibly rude right off the bat. I will never be returning here because of how stressful and embarrassing this whole situation was. Not to mention a complete waste of my Sunday afternoon with my friends. read more

My group drove over an hour to get to Ballast Point because we've heard such great things about the view. Sadly, that was the only redeeming quality of the restaurant. Our group lined up to order drinks with my girlfriend and I last in line. My 29 year-old girlfriend ordered a beer with her very real ID. The bartender then spent 5 minutes passing around her ID before eventually returning and very rudely telling us that she would not be serving us because they believed the ID was fake. We asked what seemed fake because we've been out on numerous occasions and have never had any issues. They insisted the picture looked "off" and that it felt "wrong." They also admitted that they knew new ID's were coming out and seemed to suggest they weren't familiar with them. Ridiculous for such a large bar. We returned with a friend's similar ID, which they had just accepted, and asked them to please review it again. We requested that they take it to an ID scanner and just check it so that they could confirm its validity and we could move on with our night. They left with the ID, returned (seemingly without scanning it), and continued to insist on it being a fake. This time, they confiscated it and that they could call the police on our behalf if we felt they were wrong. To their surprise, we insisted that they do so. Kendall (who we were later told is the manager) was visibly shaken, her hands trembling. She clearly was untrained and ill-equipped for her role. She left, vanished in a back room with our ID, and never returned. We eventually found someone from their security team and explained the situation to him. Adam was extremely understanding and level-headed. He left, tracked down the manager who was seemingly hiding in the back office, and returned our ID. He apologized profusely for their negligence. He also seemed to suggest that they had not even called the police despite insisting it was our only option. This whole ordeal ruined the night for all 10 members of our group. We drove over an hour to spend an evening with friends and instead had an extremely frustrating evening due to incompetence. Please do a better job training your staff. Please buy ID scanners. It was a pathetic performance for such a large, well-established business. Thank you to Adam for trying to salvage our evening. We went to the Boathouse next door and had wonderful service and food. Highly recommend that business over Ballast Point. read more
