The view is great. On a clear day, as was the case on my visit, Catalina Island was a beautiful vision across the water. That's the best thing Ballast Point has to offer. I'm not a beer drinker so your rating might be higher than mine if you are because Ballast Point is all about the beer. I ordered their Ballast Burger and a glass of wine; cabernet sauvignon. Yes, wine. At a place known for serving a vast number of beers. The pour was oddly frothy and the price was double any other restaurant would charge. And it was not a very good wine. It's what I get for ordering wine at a beer place. The burger was thick and juicy. The beef was top quality and the lettuce and tomato were fresh. But it was just a basic cheeseburger. An overpriced burger that would have been much better if not way over salted. The accompanying fries were decent but nothing special. The ordering process is basically ordering online for delivery. I think you're screwed if you don't have a smartphone. You scan the QR code and place your order, paying up front. Of course a tip is demanded before you have even seen a human. Your order is then brought to your table and you wonder if setting a plate on the table with an over-salted basic burger is worth the tip you previously paid. We dropped in to meet with some friends on a Saturday and we were blown away by the crowd! There wasn't a single seat in the house at 3 in the afternoon. And to obtain a seat you have to just circle the bar until one opens up. The bar does not have a waitlist. Due to this arrangement many people were just standing about! Strollers parked everywhere. And dogs circling around inside as well! Meanwhile music was being pumped out loudly, thus you couldn't even hear the person next to you! I have been told that this visit was unusual. We went on a cold raining weekend day. On nice days there is additional seating on the water. Due to ill weather outside, the outdoor space was closed. Also Monday thru Wednesday the bar is much quieter. As for drinks and food: the bar serves mostly their beer, but they also have some guest ciders. In the menu there is also wine, seltzers and some cocktails. Plus there is a food menu: food is a bit pricey. Fries were ten dollars. Both food and drinks are ordered through an app. This is convenient and drinks come readily. On the downside water does not come with drinks. We had to cross the big bar to find the water container that was found to be empty when we got there. Would be nice if we could order water with our drinks. In addition to our bill price a service fee was added. Don't forget to note that when you calculate your tip. It's open seating and a huge location, so find a table and sit down. You order via QR code that's sponsored through Toast and hosts a 5% surcharge; makes it convenient but looks like they are still figuring out some kinks with who to bring food/drinks out too. Service is a bit slow on food/drinks Friday night and they delivered the food to the wrong table a few times from what we saw. What we got: Pineapple IPA, Nitro Sculpin IPA, Braised Beef Torta, Fish Tacos - Torta was the best, the pineapple IPA was tolerable, the fish tacos lacked flavor, and the Nitro IPA was not very drinkable (perhaps too flat?) - Pay extra for garlic Parmesan fries (+$2). Super good! If it wasn't for the view/location, not sure I'd come back. But vibes are amazing and I know a lot of their more popular beers (Grapefruit IPA, Hazy IPA) are very good- so maybe we ventured to try different beers at a cost. I came here for a Christmas party and it was buffet style food - sliders (pulled pork, beef, and one other I can't remember), crispy fries, pizza, salad (Cesar and plain salad with way too much dressing), and empanada's. I would say that the fries and empanada's were the best thing I ate there. But there were so many people that the food couldn't get out fast enough-By the time I got back in line for seconds everything was gone and people were waiting around for more food to come in. For dessert they had churros, pudding, and some other thing that I forgot about, but I didn't eat any. There are two levels to the building: The top level has a great view of the boats on the harbor and the sunset. The second level has an indoor and outdoor area with lots of seating. There is a bar on both levels. I would say to come here for a drink and the view. There were probably 250+ people at this event, so if you have a huge party, this could be an option. read more

Once again Steve and I dove into Ballast Point, this time in Long Beach. And again we steered ourselves towards a beer that we haven't tried from thus brewery before and got the Big Gus. Big Gus is an IPA and was pretty good. Though I prefer their Grapefruit Sculpin the best and is my favorite beer from this brewery thus far. Flavors to look for while enjoying this IPA are dry, hoppy and wheat flavors. It is a light bodied IPA and it goes down nice and easy. read more

Hubbers' besties decided to celebrate a birthday here and boy, what a treat: they made arrangements for us to arrive in style - by boat! Yeeeeee! (So, yeah, that was kinda cool!) I've had Ballast Point bookmarked for some time now, so it was cherry on top when they said this is where we were headed. Docked the boat and found our way up. This place is poppin'. We were lucky (and early) enough to find a spot upstairs. As soon as our party of 8 (joined by another 2 later) got seated, the surrounding tables got occupied quickly. Ordering anything is via their QR code. This is clever, it avoids the whole flagging staff for anything needed. We were early enough to catch their brunch menu. The lunch menu is a bit more extensive but it was over an hour away for it to take effect and I was way too starving to wait. I went for the breakfast burrito and a Wahoo White to wash it down. Hubbers got a breakfast steak sandwich and a side of chowder. Our party ordered a spinach and artichoke bread bowl to share. WAHOO WHITE: Refreshing on a sunny and cool SoCal day. CLAM CHOWDER: It was Hubbers' order, but gave it a try. Don't let it's appearance fool you: it's pretty good! Sat level was perfect, they were generous with the clams. Not a lot of fillers and tasted really hearty. BREAKFAST BURRITO: Soon as I saw it was made with chorizo, I stopped looking at the rest of the menu. Served with a side of fries topped with garlic and parmesan which were crispy and salty and paired well with the burrito. The chorizo was a little bit under salted but the side of salsa did the trick. I wished they gave more, though, it wasn't enough for the size of the wrap. Nevertheless, I enjoyed it! I felt it was big enough to share with another! SPINACH ARTICHOKE BREAD BOWL: Get this! There wasn't enough bread to go with it, but if you have an order of fries, it goes well with the dip! From the food to drinks, ballast point does a really good job. I love the fact that they have a second floor, which you can see the ocean and smell the salty air. We got here on a friday evening around 5:30 and tables were starting to fill up quickly, so get here around this time to secure a decently seat. ngl they do have a lot of tables outside and inside but given it's the weekend, it will get packed. The food definitely hit the spot after a couple drinks, but the price can be a little steep. i would recommend sharing and it's the most affordable and fun thing to do in this environment. There was a mishap and one of our food order got lost during the initial order, but that was taken care of. Would come back in the future and try other items for sure. read more

Went around lunch time on a Thursday to celebrate a friends birthday. With it being October and her birthday, we decided to surprise our husbands and bring out our inflatable cow costumes but of course, I forgot batteries to blow them up lol. Open seating which can be a bit of a free for all and parking is a bit of a challenge so if you can bike or Uber do that. A lot of families with young kids come here, which to me is always weird since most people are here to drink. The food is a bit limited with typical bar food options and is decent, but nothing that really stands out. The main attraction here is the location since it's right on the water with spectacular views, especially at sunset. The main big disappointment to me was the glass barriers that you basically have to look out everywhere are super dirty and covered in bird crap. There's a Ballast Point in Downtown Disney but it's overpriced and just doesn't hit the same. This location has plenty of parking and is right next to a beautiful water view. You can sit indoor or outdoor. I came here with my family and we sat indoors. There was a barcode to scan and order your food. Everything came out quickly, but I recommend turning in your orders as you go for quicker service. For example if you choose an appetizer and drink, submit the order, then keep looking for your entree, then submit. By submitting in increments your food will come out spaced out and quicker. After we ate inside we paid and took our drinks upstairs. The view is gorgeous. It was a hotter day but the breeze was cooling enough to lounge about. Food is great, I love their nachos and their birria tacos. Drink wise there's mostly beer, I'm not too into beer so I ordered a mojito and tried their spiked horchata. The service is outstanding however when we requested to see the Dodgers playing for their third game, they replied they still have too many games and they didn't want to put it on for us when I know most of their customers are from our area however they still didn't want to put it on every screen had basketball on! What a huge beautiful brewery! Excellent ocean views of the marina and remarkable sunsets make for the perfect date night or hang out spot in Long Beach. Service is stellar. Especially with how their ordering process works. Seating is first come basis and once you find a table, scan the QR code to order. Everything is done from your phone, then food and drinks are delivered to your table. Staff is attentive and present for anything else you may need. Beers on tap here is excellent in flavor and quality. I've enjoyed all the different beers. Food is hit or miss. They serve Filipino dishes like sisig and inihaw skewers which are pork bbq sticks. These were just okay, I've had better, of course. Appetizers are good like wings, calamari, and fries. Main entrees like pizza, burgers, tacos, and fried chicken sandwich. Ordered the fish and chips which were very good. The only thing here is that it is essentially self-serve so there is minimal contact with the wait staff. You can't even order a glass of water, you just go to the pitcher and grab it yourself. Order came to the table wrong, so they had to go back and change it. My son's meal came really late. He's 5. Asked for a steak knife was given a butter knife? I had to get up and ask another person for a steak knife and it took a total of 3 people to get a simple steak knife. The beer was great, as usual. If you wanted to have a restaurant experience, do not come here. You used to be able to have a restaurant experience here but it's obvious it wasn't sustainable. Been here a few times and they've got good drinks, food and views. However the service is not great and there can be long waits despite how large the restaurant is. This time around I got the apple pie hard cider which was great and one of the flatbreads. The flatbread was yummy but the crust a little hard. They also completely forgot my meal and didn't seem to notice I was the only one at our table without food. As there's no waiters, I had to try and flag someone down and ask. Amazing experience for a catered birthday party! Honestly, I'm sure it's a 5 star dining service as well! The location is absolutely stunning. Beautiful glass windows overlooking the bay and in the direction of the sunset! The birthday party we attended was a catered buffet in the brewery room. It had the perfect amount of table space for a smaller get together. The buffet food was all delicious: we tried the chips and guac, chicken taquitos, beef sliders, pretzel balls and fries. There was also margarita pizza by the slice that looked amazing. Everything was delicious. I really enjoyed the guacamole and the sliders were cooked to perfection. The pretzel balls were so cute and soft and chewy! My kids loved them! I also preferred their style of fries: wonderfully breaded and seasoned, extra crispy. During the buffet there were also passed apps. We tried them all and they were all delicious! I loved the veggie potstickers. The panko style shrimp with peanut sauce was also very good! Shout out to the incredible staff that helped make this birthday party so enjoyable for us guests. They did not stop moving and assisting every guest who attended. They were available for all our needs and were quick and efficient. I'm more of a cocktail fan so I asked the waiter what drink he recommended for someone like me who prefers drinks on the sweeter side. The drink did not disappoint! DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE. Not the Ballast Point we know and love. I've been coming to Ballast Point for years and have always enjoyed the atmosphere, but our recent visit left a lot to be desired. When my friend and I, both in our late 30s, were asked for ID at upon receiving our drinks, we were met with a tone that made us feel like we were doing something wrong, as if we were trying to "get away with something." It was uncomfortable and unnecessarily tense. The woman who served us, "Giovanna", brought this bad energy & carried that same attitude throughout the visit. Her energy was cold, unwelcoming, and frankly brought down what had been a great day up until that point. Ballast Point has always been about good beer, good vibes, and a welcoming environment. This time, it missed the mark. Management, I hope you take this as constructive feedback. Guest experience starts at the door, and your team's tone matters. Proper training, or at the very least a reminder about hospitality, could make all the difference. read more
