Love this location. If you go outside and upstairs, the view is amazing! Right on the water, and you can watch boats, kayaks, paddle boarders, etc. enjoying the ocean inlet. Love sitting on the "outside" , second story, along the glass wind protected section with my sweetie! Really like how they have their ordering set up. You go to the website, which makes it easy to view all of the options. You order as you go (on your phone). Within minutes, it shows up. Ballast is self seating again! Came on a Friday evening and it wasn't too crowded, which I was surprised about. Typically this place gets pretty packed and it can be hard to find a table, but we were able to get a table with a view of the tv to watch the football game that was going on while we were there. I've been coming to ballast for a while and usually always enjoy my time there despite the fact that it can get crowded, but you still order at the table through the QR code so at least no long bar lines! You order from your phone and then someone will come bring you your food/drinks. Something to keep in mind is that this place is on the pricier side. Beers average about $8 each and about $15 for food. My usual order is their sour wench or manta ray, but they didn't have either of them this time - hope they bring them back! For food we usually get the garlic fries and mussels. Today we opted for the quesobirria tacos to try something new. They were pretty big sized tacos and came with chips, salsa, and consome. They're not very authentic tasting, but I wasn't expecting them to be, and I enjoyed them for what they were. Until next time, ballast! read more

We just hosted a really great event at Ballast Point last week for one of my clients. The location (the upstairs patio) was just absolutely beautiful and cannot be beat. There was great lighting, the music was perfect (for me anyway - a great mix of 80's tunes... I was in heaven), the food was delicious and the staff was outstanding. The right amount of working heat lamps made the outdoor venue completely comfortable. Everyone agreed it was one of the most beautiful political events they had ever attended - the view is just stunning. The staff couldn't have been more friendly or helpful, even offering to make me a plate of food to go (as the event planner, I pretty much never get to eat at the actual event) and making sure my wine glass was never empty (very important!). Highly recommend if you are planning any sort of event. A very impressive venue that wasn't even as expensive as it looked... The food was delicious, the service was good and the view was beautiful. I highly recommend the pretzel bites. The chicken sandwich was amazing the tacos were also absolutely delicious. The kids meal was great. The chocolate fudge cake had the perfect amount of richness. We didn't have a beer we didn't like. We even bought a 12 pack to take back to the hotel with us. There were different areas to eat and enjoy the view. They had indoor seating, a little sunroom like area (inside down a few stairs and had windows to see the water and plush chairs to relax on, and rooftop seating (where we ate) all were full of people but it didn't seem crowded. When we come back for a visit we will definitely be coming back here to eat and enjoy the views. We may even come back this trip if we have the opportunity. read more

I tried several of their other beers but didn't care for any as much. The food was great too. The Roasted Garlic Pepper wings were phenomenal. It was a rub not a sauce. Quality garlic flavor throughout. Came with a side of ranch. But I also asked for a side of their buffalo sauce. It was homemade and actually creamy. I loved dipping the garlic wings in it. The Lumpia egg rolls were great. They were very thin like the size of cigars. They were packed full of flavor, and came with both a sweet Thai dipping sauce and also a soy sauce based dipping sauce. The Pretzel Bites were amazing little airy balls that seemed to be tossed in butter, and came with both a beer cheese sauce that was great, and a grainy mustard with a hint of honey, not bad. Beautiful views of the ocean from the top floor. You can enjoy some food and Ballast Point beer while overlooking the water. I recommend the nachos. They are very yummy. It is a bit difficult to grab a seat on the top floor though. Especially if its really sunny because there is only one shaded area. If you want to snag a seat on the second floor just make sure you keep an eye out on a group that is about to leave and sneak in at the right moment. If you do snag a seat in the non-shaded section, just make sure you wear sunscreen. Parking is a little difficult. Nearby parking fills out really quick. Unless you have the time of day to keep circulating until someone leaves, you'll have to park a little down the road. No problem just a few minutes walk. The staff is friendly and is very knowledgeable on their beer selections. I will definitely come back here again if I am ever in the area. read more

I came here with several of my girlfriends, and three of them had been here previously so they already knew it was just okay. When you arrive, you seat yourself, so we went upstairs on the balcony so that we'd have a nice view of the beach while we ate. All the tables were full, so we stood around waiting for one to free up. After a group got up from their table, we went and sat down. A waiter was walking by about 10 minutes or so later, and we told him we'd just sat down, and needed the table cleaned. He returned with a bin to put the dirty dishes in, and knocked over a cup of some drink. He just continued to pick up the other plates, ignoring the spilled drink. I saw the water about to drip over the table and onto my purse so I grabbed it just in time. I was pretty annoyed by that. The rest of the experience was okay. There's a QR code on the table that you can scan and put in your orders. My friends said they'd rather go up to the bar and order, so we did that instead. Everyone's food arrived at different times. One of my friends got her garlic fries first, and she said she wanted it to come together with the buffalo wings she ordered (she didn't want to get full from munching on fries before her wings came out). The waiter went back with the fries. Later, the wings came out, but the fries did not. So she had to tell them to bring it out. When everyone's food finally came out, we ate. The food was okay, nothing to write home about. The main reason we came here was for the beach view, which was super nice. Would I come here again? Only if I was outvoted when deciding on where to eat. Would I suggest this place to anyone who cares what the food tastes like and the service? Nope. read more

We arrived around 6:30 and because there are multiple establishments in the area parking was a little difficult to come by, but took us less than 5 minutes to find a spot. The views were spectacular and the music/environment of the entire place was so fun and lively! A lot of people don't prefer the QR code menu and ordering, however I found it to be lovely. Service was incredibly quick and it's nice to not have waitresses pestering you for the bill, but rather to enjoy your time there and spend however long you like. Absolutely love coming to Ballast Point. I have been here a few times on my own and also with friends. Most recently came here with a date on a Friday evening. We got here around 6pm and it was packed! Had to park in the lot down the road, but not too long of a walk. We initially sat down inside and took us about an hour to scout for a table outside. Thankfully we found a great spot. All of the servers are extremely nice and do a great job of bussing tables and bringing out orders. The beers come out quick and are nice and cold. We shared some fries and a Waugh burger. The burger was super tasty and cooked to our liking. The fries were perfect for snacking on before our meal. It can get packed here so just know that going into it, you may have to wait awhile for a table outside. There's also an upstairs patio but that is usually reserved for events. Do bring a jacket if you stay outside after sunset as the wind creeps in. Overall will be coming back here! read more

It is still spacious with plenty of seating, but you definitely still want to be outside. I had a drink and some food and while I was there the waitlist opened up again. I put my name down and was seating immediately for the outdoor area. I had another drink and was able to people watch and enjoy the scenery. This place is clean, nice view but definitely needs to adjust it's food menu. To start, if you have kids, you can submit your food order online for adults, but you have to either flag a waiter down and ask for a kids menu, then go to the bar to order the kids food. Do this before hand otherwise adults eat first while the kids watch. Second, the food was super salty. Really disappointed in the fish batter. The nachos come with what they call mole sauce, it's a cheese sauce...the burger patty my child got was just as salty as the fish and chips...
