Im getting married and was looking for only one bouquet and a boutonnière. I haven't done much research because I wanted to see what could be ordered for a December wedding and to hear some professional opinions. This place is less than professional. The woman I spoke to was condescending and just outright rude. Not everyone knows everything about flowers! She asked me if I am "on the web" and to bring in pictures of exactly what I want. Pardon me for wanting something unique and creative. I thought I'd bring in pictures once I knew what was in season or not, I didn't want to make their lives difficult. I guess if you come here you should expect outright copies of photos online, don't come in thinking that you'll get to work with someone to get something perfectly unique to you. read more

So the positive was that they were able to take my phone order and deliver it the same day within few hours. I was suggested/recommended a fall flower arrangement. It was not pretty and my mom was not impressed. For the money you pay, arrangement looks like it was done by a 5th grader. The customer service was good it's just the product was not. It is overpriced for what you get!! Plus the delivery guy called my mom and said he will leave the flowers on the back porch only to leave them by front door?!? I mean anyone could have taken them and you are giving the wrong information. I think I will be going elsewhere. I would love to get what I pay for. I would expect better quality and better presentation. Certainly would not recommend this place to anyone read more

What you see online prior to ordering and what you receive shows that they are cutting back to save costs. It looked nice online but when it was received it was not as full as the picture and on this display you are not given the option to upgrade. I would not order this again. I should have spent 10 dollars more for a dozen roses because it is harder to skimp on the arrangement. read more

I used the Balmes in Gurnee, IL, for my wedding. They've been our family florist for as long as I can remember. They always did my flowers for dances in high school, and my mom always uses them when sending flowers for any occasion. I didn't shop around at all but honestly didn't need to. Our meeting took less than half an hour - I described what I wanted and they assured me it could be done. I really wanted to carry a wreath, but not a Christmasy wreath (our wedding was close to Christmas, but we didn't have a Christmas theme at all.) I asked for boxwood with ivory flowers and a bow and man, did they deliver. When I got to the church and saw it for the first time, I was absolutely thrilled. It was even better than I had imagined. I received about a million compliments on it that night. My flower girl carried a smaller version of my wreath that was just adorable. They also did boutonnieres, corsages for the mothers and grandmothers, and a very lovely centerpiece that we used on the head table at the reception. When I returned from my honeymoon a week later, the centerpiece still looked fresh on my parents' dining room table. The owner, Jeanne, really knows her stuff and will make excellent recommendations if, like me, you don't know much about flowers. read more

Ordered from Balmes on 8/25/2015 for wake on 8/26/2016 in Gurnee, IL. The flower basket cost $79.99, and tax and delivery brought the total just under $100. The flower arrangement was very poorly executed, looking much more skimpy than the online version. It certainly wasn't $79.99 worth of flowers (carnations and daisies, mind you -- not expensive flowers such as roses and lilies)!!! However, worse even was that the card that accompanied the flowers looked like it was hand-printed by perhaps a second grader (a mishmash of lower case and capital letters, and odd spacing between the letters) AND the word SYMPATHY was spelled incorrectly --- for FUNERAL flowers!!!! If that all wasn't bad enough, Balmes' response was that we got what we paid for. Nice. So, beware of their attitude and lack of floral and spelling skills before you order. read more

Ordered from a local florist to support small business. Ordered several days ahead and used their web site. Asked for delivery between 8 and 2. Called at 12 noon when they had not been delivered and was told all was good. Called again at 1:50 pm. and they could not get a hold of the delivery guy. Poor experience. Too much attitude when you are in a business servicing the public. Ordered flowers week before Anniversary. I called to confirm they had them ready a few hours prior to time and they didn't even arrive. No one from florist called to let me know, didn't try to even make up for the issue and just said sorry. What they didn't know is I was also calling to place another order which also required a vse that runs $800. So, the entire order would have been $1300 plus prepaid Plus my Anniversry order. Balmes, get a clue how to do business or you can lose an order to a competitor like you just did. Ignorance and stupidity is NOT acceptable! Quit using your supplier as the excuse and be accountable for your actions. Follow up with your customer, tell them the situation, get off your butts to get my order and get a nice amount of other business. Sorry you failed miserably on this and since I am down the street you would have gotten all my business! Unfortunately, they do not allow less than 1 star because you earned it. One of the oldest florist in lake county so I guess they do not need to worry about making the consumer happy or service. This place is right in town and has a coupe on the flower industry. So if you are looking for run of the mill and no respect this it the place for you. Jeanne Balmes you might be one of the oldest families in town but I have lived here all my life too (50+) and you were so rude by doing your wihispering and rolling your eyes with your other employee when all I wanted was a flower hair piece for my daughter for her prom. felt sorry for the young minimum wage girl that was trying to help me. My $25-30 must not be important to you. Acted like I was asking for the moon. Never will I set foo in your place again. I am sue your don't care but many of my co-workers/friends feel the same and have experienced your lousy level of service. Terrible. I bought flowers for my girlfriend ONCE. The flowers were expensive, but the set up and bouquet wasnt anything special. I would say below average service. I planned on using their services ONCE. Im not the kind of guy to waste my money on buying flowers for my girlfriend. Id prefer a surprise date, even picking flowers together or for her. I dont really get the idea of buying someone to give flowers to your loved one? Anyways, the reason i give them one star, is because i SPECIFICALLY CHECKED THE BOX SAYING I DID NOT WANT EMAIL NOTIFICATIONS ON DEALS. I didnt like their service but i recieved on average 3 emails a day from their establishment. Ive called multiple times, showed up in the store multiple times, even called the brance multiple times. They say to disregard them, or to talk to the branch, that the store isnt in control of that. I hate this place. I pay over $100 for there best offer on flowers and it gets dilivered weaping and looks like its dying? I opt out of emails and continuously get harrased by them? Im surprised theyre still open.
