I have used this florist 3 years in a row and their customer service and flower arrangements don't disappoint. This year my aunt landed in the hospital on her 90th birthday. I called to let them know and the delivery had not gone out yet. I wasn't sure where she was and they assured me if it wasn't to a place they delivered I could cancel and get a full refund. Once I found out what hospital she was in I called back and it was a hospital they delivered to. The day was saved and beautiful arrangement delivered. I'm thankful for Michelle doing what ever it took to get the flowers there or issue a refund. I live in a different state and only have used them to send my aunt flowers on her birthday, but if I lived nearby this would be my go to place for everything flowers. Strang Funeral chapel had a link to Lewis florist. Googled and saw they were in business 40 years with good reviews. I called their number and spoke with Michelle who was extremely helpful and offered suggestions that I liked (adding branches with butterflies). As I was living in Florida and the plant was being delivered in Illinois to the funeral of a very beloved cousin I wanted it to represent our sympathy. This plant did just that. I should have done more research before ordering from this florist. I tried to order one of their standard bouquets online but their website was not cooperating with my device so I called to place an order. I chose this florist because it was down the street from my friend and I want to give business to small family owned places. We spent quite a few minutes talking about what I wanted, something unique and uplifting but absolutely no carnations. She mentioned sunflowers and orange alstroemerias with some other coordinating flowers. I thought $75 with additional charges to be a total of $92 sounded high, but I thought that would give my friend a gorgeous bouquet. Much to my dismay, when my friend received her bouquet and sent me a picture, the first thing that jumped out were the red carnations clashing with the pink/purple alstroemerias. Two sunflowers were indeed in the bouquet and sufficiently sized, but nothing else we discussed. The bouquet looked like miscellaneous flowers thrown together. I am so sad and embarrassed that this was delivered to my friend. I called to talk to the florist to voice my disappointment with little satisfaction on my end. After voicing our concern, the owner gave us the refund after being extremely rude. Everyone deserves a second chance... Against better judgement, we ordered for both the boutonniere and wrist corsage. When picked up they were the wrong order. Lewis remade semi properly and when I went to pick them up, the lady working called me a liar about the color change of the order and screamed to never come back. I had an appointment this afternoon with Lewis Florist to discuss wedding florals for my upcoming wedding in June. I do not recommend working with Lewis Florist, in fact I would beg you to stay as far away as possible from them. I have never been treated so disrespectfully by someone who I thought would want my business as I was today. All the flowers I said I liked were shot down; upon showing a picture of my wedding dress I was told that it was "busy" and that the flowers I want would simply not work. There are more professional ways to give advice on such a thing as making sure a bride will look good on her wedding day, but I was spoken to in a completely rude and condescending manner that made me feel not only as though I have no idea what I am doing, but that I have no taste. I had to leave the premises after twenty minutes, especially after being told, "well I don't think I can help you because I can't read your mind," well everything I had in mind I was told wasn't worthy of a wedding, so I was out of ideas, and feeling pretty small to boot. No one should be treated like that, especially over flowers! C'mon! Just be professional and give your client what they want--if a flower isn't in season, don't outright say, "well, that's just not going to be possible," say something along the lines of "unfortunately, those will be out of season, but here are a few comparable options..." and don't make me feel like I'm an idiot! Why didn't I read the YELP reviews BEFORE I walked into this horrific place??? Buyers beware. Unless you want to be treated like scum, do not even go near this place! Rudest man I have ever met! I have never been treated so bad in my life! I came in ready to spend $500-$1000 for my wedding and was treated as if I was the biggest inconvenience to the so-called "designer" named Mike. I called ahead from the city of Chicago to see if I could meet with someone. Mike reluctantly set an appointment with me for 2:30pm. He rushed the conversation and never asked anything about what I was looking for or even my name, Surprised, I told him my name and he just said ok and hung up. When I arrived after a 45 MINUTE DRIVE, he looked me up and down and with a fake smile just said, "sorry, it looks like we don't have time for you today." As I started to walk away in shock, he stopped me and added that he didn't appreciate that I was rude to him on the phone! I was rude to HIM??? I am utterly confused by this awful shop! He continued to say that it was, quote, "too late for me....why don't you go find someone else to do your flowers...puh, good luck!" I, the customer, left without saying anything. I just had my wedding over the weekend and cannot say enough good things about Lewis Florist. The owner was beyond helpful from the very beginning. He helped me feel like I was not only in control and in charge of my own wedding plans, but made me feel very confident in my decision to order my wedding flowers through them. Throughout the months leading to my big day, he was in contact, and more than willing to entertain my ideas, and rantings. My husband had a gorgeous plant delivered to me on a Friday. The woman who arranged it even went above and beyond and added a few special touches. I called to thank her for the beautiful arrangement. All was good until Monday. I came into work and the plant was drooping and almost all of the flowers were brown. I figured it needed some water. The plant itself is a member of the succulent family and does not require a lot of water. So you would think that if it arrived on Friday it would be okay over the weekend, right? I mean fresh cut flowers last longer than that. So anyway, I water the plant. The directions say, water thoroughly when soil is dry to touch. Which it was so that's what I did. So now it's Tuesday and I'm getting worried because I see no change. At this point I called the florist and was asked to bring it in, that was not an option so I emailed a couple pics. After several email exchanges I called again. I was basically told I didn't know what I was doing when it came to taking care of plants and there was nothing they could do for me. So when I read the directions and it said to water when dry to the touch and to water thoroughly and did that, I was wrong????? OH, wait....the planter was is a liner that has ZERO drainage. I DID NOT KNOW THIS! Nor do I think it's a good idea to package it that way, especially since it came in a air tight planter sitting on top of a piece of foam. Why do you even need the foil?? Hey I will FULLY admit that I am no expert in plant care....but a $35 plant goes to waste after a weekend seems a little ridiculous if you ask me...especially since they claim it was properly watered when I got it. Oh and they said "I wasn't there, so I don't know what happened." Well no s*it genius, thanks for the condescending comment. I guess you're no expert in customer service then. It's takes a lot for me to complain or even go through the trouble of writing a bad review, but this company deserves it. And oddly enough the only other comment here is negative as well. I asked myself the same question that Richelled asked in herself in her review "Why did I not check out yelp before I called to order flowers from this horrific place?" It was my boss, who is also my friend, birthday. I called Lewis florist and ordered a bouquet for her. The man I talked to charge me 11.95 for delivery, on top of the flower cost and tax. the total came to 65.45. Since the delivery distance is only 8 miles, I initially asked to have the delivery cost waived. He refused. (I live in CA and as I know of they don't charge flower delivery here.) I was then OK with it. After he took my information down. I asked him to repeat the information to make sure it was correct. He sounded irritated on the phone. I had a feeling that he would get the names wrong. Therefore, I asked him to email me the information so that I could make sure that he got all details correct. He said 'Yes'. However, I didn't get any email from him. Today, I called Lewis Florist to check on my order. They finally sent me the confirmation. Sure enough, he got my friend's name wrong and my name wrong. And my last name was not on the card! How did my friend know who sent her the flowers???? I called back and told him that he got the information wrong even though I asked him to repeat to make sure that it was correct. He started to accuse me of complaining and whining on the phone. I was so upset that I hung up and swore that I would never order from him again. First of all, this man is a terrible business man. All he cares about is to take money from you. That's it! I grew up in the area and Lewis has always been our family's go-to. I live downtown and wanted to send my parents flowers for their anniversary. My ex-bf used to try to woo me with flowers from 1-800-flowers and the like and it didn't work - not that it was the only reason - but as far as I'm concerned, it's not just the thought that counts! If I'm going to have flowers on my kitchen table for a week, I want them to be captivatingly beautiful. Those from your typical online flower shop never even lasted a week, nor did they ever wow me upon delivery. Long story short, I had flowers delivered to my parents and they are so beautiful I'm jealous they're not at my apartment. I ordered them online and they called before preparing the arrangement just to make sure I'd be satisfied. She told me everything they had available and asked my preferences to make sure I could choose from the freshest available flowers they had that day, like I would have if I had gone into the shop rather than ordering online. In my experience, online florists have no regard for whether the flowers in their arrangements are a couple days past their prime; they're satisfied with selling a product that will look ok upon delivery and like shiz within 2 days - not Lewis. I apologize for my verbosity, but I can't say enough wonderful things about Lewis. Well worth the money - would you rather pay $60 for an arrangement that will last 2 days or closer to 10? Next time I'm visiting my parents, I'm going to stop into Lewis like my sisters and I occasionally do after a mani-pedi and a trip to Starbucks, just to browse what's in stock, pick up something nice for mom, and take it all in - and probably buy a nice little arrangement to brighten up my own apartment. read more

The first time I used them I went in with high hopes for homecoming flowers. I got the flowers, and they were dead. AND the wrong color. I gave them one more chance this year for doing the homecoming flowers and they completely screwed up the color again. We had this company do the floral arrangements for my wedding and we were highly disappointed. My first clue should have been that their were no new/current catalogs or pictures avaliable. Michael told me to "show him ideas off my pinterest board" since that's what they do now. I told him I wanted a centerpiece that would run down the middle of the table with ivy and eucalyptus and we would place hydrangeas within the ivy. He stated he understood this and wrote up our proposal. Day of the wedding comes and I got 10 bouquets of flowers that did not fit the description of what we discussed. We did not have vases to place bouquets because the flowers were supposed to lay directly on the table. My bridesmaids had to go buy them while we were getting ready and the catering company had to cut them down with chefs knives to make them presentable. My bouquet had withered white Rose's and looked brown .When I called to ask what happened to what we discussed, I was told " I got confused and thought this was what you meant ". NO APOLOGY OR ATTEMPT TO RECTIFY THE SITUATION FOR OVER 1500 in flowers. Please future brides ...go someone else where they can provide you with your dream flowers and know how to arrange them. read more

I placed an order for a Sympathy spray "Remembering Forever" for $140 which was the top price for the spray. I was told if I went higher the display would have more flowers. Well I was extremely disappointed, in fact I was embarrassed when I told the others that were also contributing to the cost. It looked like they ran out of flowers. The color that was most noticeable was the greenery used as the background. The blooms were minimal for that price. Not impressed at all. read more

I totally disagree with Dina C.!!! My daughter's wedding is also in June We interviewed 5 florists in our area and Lewis was the 4th. During our first meeting Mike was extremely helpful in picking not only the types of flowers but he gave us many options for color and style of bouquet. We had some basic ideas of what we were looking for but after hearing what Mike had to say we were blown away! We had a second meeting with him to see his color choices against the girl's dresses and I have to say, Mike is the best!!! He gave us ideas that we would have NEVER come up with, and was excited about the few ideas we did bring to the table. And on top of that, his prices were the most reasonable in the area. I wouldn't give any "Stars" if it didn't make me!! This is the second time my husband ordered me flowers from Lewis Florist in Grayslake, IL. I would recommend NOT spending the money there, but to buy flowers from Wal-Mart or Jewel (they last longer). The first time was Valentines' Day 2011 - He had two dozen roses delivered to my work and three days later they died and most of them never even opened up. They guarantee their flowers to last for 1 week. I had to bring in the dead flowers (along with my 6 month old daughter in her carrier) for them to give me new ones. I was not treated the best upon arrival. ($100+ arrangement) The second time was my Birthday this past Tuesday 9/6 - I received a mixture arrangement and it looked and smelled wonderful. By 9/9 the flowers started to die and there were / are some that never opened up. ($80+ arrangement) My husband and I laid our daughter to rest last year and purchased all our flowers from Lewis Florist and didn't have any problems then. We even recommended our families to order flowers (for the funeral) from them - will definitely let them know not to going forward. Not sure what has changed in the quality?? read more

Horrible. Seriously this place is just terrible. Don't waste your time or money. I went in to get three small bouquets for girls who were competing in a pageant. I told them I was in a rush, and that I just needed something little with a few flowers for each of the girls. I was told it would be "just a few minutes". Well, 10 minutes later the florist finally comes out. I again told her I was in a rush and said what I needed. I picked out three roses for each of the bouquets, all of which were very open and turning a little brown already. I then told her that I wanted a couple carnations in each and pointed out a few other flowers. She took them back to her table, and proceeded to go an pick out more flowers without saying a word. 30 minutes later she comes out with three bouquets that looked ok. The flowers weren't fresh, the bouquets looked a little cheap to me. She ended up making three bouquets, all of different sizes. Which is not what I asked for. Then she tells me they all needed bows. I told her that they were fine and that I really was running late. She says just a minute. 10 minutes later they all had bows. So now I've been here for 45 minutes. Then she rings up the bill. $75!!!!! Are you kidding me? These are the junkiest flowers I have ever bought, and the most expensive. They weren't in a vase, there weren't many flowers even. And they were all very poor quality. For $75! I was appalled. I told her that I thought they were too expensive. And I added up for myself the price of the flowers I asked her for. When she went back to pull more flowers, I was definitely charged for those even though I didn't ask for them. She responded with "well, I can't really take these apart. You picked out the flowers..." Whatever, I was already about 30 minutes late. The next day I was with the recipient of the flowers at her home. Every single flower was drooping or had died. We put water tubes on them, and in a vase as soon as we got home, but they were just old flowers in bad condition. I could have bought 10x the flowers at Jewel and they would have been nicer than these from a "professional florist" Never, ever, ever go here. They were rude, slow, ridiculously expensive, and terrible quality. read more

For the past few years, my husband has ordered me flowers from this florist and this year will be the last time as the arrangements have become progressively worse. The flowers I received for this V Day, which is also my birthday was the ultimate disappointment; an arrangement of three roses (12.00 each) three tulips, three carnations and the rest filler. The cost? $102!!! As I was expecting something nice, an "Oh no" came out of my mouth as I began to unwrap the flowers. A two year old could have done a better job. And again, mostly filler. Left them a message the next day regarding my disappointment, but they apparently have chosen to ignore me. Last year's arrangement wasn't much better. My husband could have bought a complete arrangement of all roses for less than $100 from Jewel. But he wanted an arrangement delivered to me because he thought it would be more romantic. Needless to say, we will NOT be purchasing any more garbage from them again and I will be spreading this via word of mouth to my friends and family. read more

Despite the low ratings on Yelp, I visited Lewis Florists the day before Mother's Day to support my local community. I was pleasantly surprised by the quaint interior, being happily greeted by a team of employees and receiving excellent guidance to develop a nice floral arrangement for my wife. The prices are premium but not out of line. The roses were high quality and lived longer than expected and the other flowers in the arrangements blossomed like fireworks throughout the week. You get what you pay for here. In addition to flowers, the store had an extensive selection of candles with unique scents and other trinkets. That being said, they do not have an extensive selection of cards so you'll have to plan another stop if you require a unique card to accompany your purchase. I'll definitely be going back to Lewis for my next flower purchase...and maybe pick up a few candles too. read more

It was difficult to find a florist that would work with me on this and I was calling from Arizona. Michelle was so friendly, attentive, kind and helpful. She put me to ease and said she would take care of it. She was so nice and professional and helped me when I needed suggestions for the arrangement.. The next day I received an email with all the delivered info. When I called her to get an update she said the owner and driver went to the monestary to deliver it. Just got off the phone with this florist who are doing the family flowers for a funeral at the Strang Funeral Chapel. The funeral home uses and endorses Lewis flowers for their clients hence the family ordered all their flowers from here for the 3rd funeral they have had there in the last 3 yrs. Based on this, I called this particular florist to order a funeral arrangement to be sent along with the family flowers already going to the funeral home. Upon placing my order they asked how would I like these sent. I said I would like them to be sent over with the family flowers but when it came to paying for my order they wanted to charge me a delivery charge. I asked why would there be a delivery charge if they are going with the family flowers?To which I got the standard answer of that is our policy but she would ask the owner if she could waive it. She came back and stated the owner said no because if they did it for me they would have to do it with everyone. Well isn't that why you have a relationship with particular funeral home so each business benefits each other? It always amazes me how businesses pay thousands of dollars in advertising and marketing to obtain customers and then when they have a loyal one they alienate them based on "policy." We met with different florists in the area and decided to work with Michael because he was knowledgable, patient and easy to work with. I could not be happier with the way our flower bouquets turned out for the wedding. They were oversized hand tied bouquets with a mix of trailing and draping greenery and flowers. His creativity and insight on exactly which mix of colors and greens to use made the result even more stunning than the pictures we had for example. Today I had THE worst experience ever with a store owner. This florist was recommended to us by the funeral home we had gone to make arrangements for my friends 3 year old child who died March 16. When we walked in it smelled delicious and looked quite charming. Then the shop owner came out from a back room with a blank look on his face that did not mask the sense of disdain that emanated from him. He came behind the counter with his arms crossed and remained standing there with his arms crossed. Small talk was shut down so we got right to our reason for being there. When we told him who sent us, his reply was something like " Oh yes the baby" and literally tossed a book of flower arrangements on the counter, and returned to his cross armed stance and a bewildered look on his face like he could not understand how we could have possibly thought that we could conduct our business in his store. All of our questions were met with answers devoid of useful information and designed to insult us. He never expressed condolences to the mother. And when I talked to him about the finances available, he detoured around the concept of providing a discount so fast I swear I smelled rubber burning. We remained polite and pretended to actually be interested but were yearning to GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE !! When we did leave the grieving mother politely said "Well he was sure grumpy" to which I replied something along the line of "He was a f#*%!ng a$$@*#e! He rubbed me the wrong way like sandpaper! " He was clueless about flower arrangements for a child, showed a complete lack of sympathy and refused to engage in any intelligent conversation with us. What a TOOL!! Next time I need a floral arrangement I won't be coming here. Just needed what I thought was a pretty routine arrangement in the vase I brought with me. I gave my color preferences and indicated I like hydrangeas. I wanted to stay around $40-45 since I had a vase and no delivery was involved. Clerk encouraged me to go $50. When I arrived to pick it up, the arrangement was not very big and the only hydrangea was squished down in the middle--hardly visible. I had a gift card that I had won and I'm also a farm bureau member. When I started to pay I was told I couldn't have the discount and use my gift card. After it took forever for them to figure out my total on the computer and I had an appointment to keep, I left but thought afterward their rule on the farm bureau discount was ridiculous. My gift card should have been accepted the same as any form of payment--it was not a discount--I was entitled to the farm bureau discount. This was my first visit and will be my last visit. read more
