We walked by Bambolina earlier in the day while exploring Salem and after taking a peek inside immediately decided that we will have dinner her. The restaurant is nicely set up and nicely decorated but the star of the show is that beautiful Italian pizza oven. The staff were extremely friendly and understanding. The menu is small but just right, not so many options to make decisions difficult but where you know the dishes they do will be perfect. Much like the bolognese with it's extremely tender shreds of meat. The pizza is what this place is about though. We also ordered a margherita which was absolutely perfect! The sauce was so fresh and the crust was a perfect balance of crisp and char(my favorite) and soft chewy crust. They also offer chili oil to drip on absolutely everything because it's so addicting. It'll be hard to go anyway else on future trips to Salem. read more

This place is adorable and clean. The service was very good. The food was so disappointing and that's why I'm giving Bambolina 2 stars. We ordered a garden salad and marinated mushrooms to start. The salad was a generous size but the dressing was flavorless and boring. The mushrooms were not marinated in a pickled sort of way, the way most marinated mushrooms are. They were in an oil with spices & garlic. We ate a few and agreed they weren't good, left almost the full plate. Then came the pizza. We were so excited for wood fire, thin crust pizza. So disappointed that our pizza was soggy. It looked as if it should have been so crispy because it was nicely charred (just enough) but it was floppy and so soggy. Again, bummed. Finally made it to Bambolina for dinner with Andrew and our two friends. We arrived at about 8:45 on a Friday evening, and I think we were late enough to miss the dinner crowd, so we were seated immediately. We might have been a little tipsy, and our waitress was less than impressed. I think service suffered because of that, but I can at least acknowledge that we were probably louder than necessary. Wine and beer options we selected were tasty, the bottle of red wine we had was nice. We started with the bresaola which was stunning, since it was served on a plank from a cider barrel. The beef was tasty, and paired perfectly with the arugula, figs and parmesan. This was a great option for sharing. We also had the zucchini ceviche which was super fresh and light. Another good option, especially for something light before having pizza. For pizzas, we split the soppressata, clam chowder, and forest mushroom. All of them were absolutely phenomenal. We literally ate up every bite and probably could have had a 4th but decided on dessert instead. Each pizza was about personal-sized, and cut into 4 pieces. I liked that the pieces were really big. The clam chowder pizza was super memorable, and the mushroom pizza was so truffle-y and fantastic. The soppressata was a classic, and made even more delicious with the addition of the chili oil that was served with the pizza. Andrew had gone to the bathroom and I wanted to ask about getting a chocolate birthday dessert for him (I asked for anything with chocolate). It was right before closing time, so the waitress wasn't thrilled but obliged. The dessert ended up being a chocolate pudding, but there was a weird gelatin on the top which we all agreed was a little strange. We also split 2 affogatos which were very good. Overall, I'll definitely be back to try even more of the delicious pizzas!! read more

Bambolina isn't perfect. The dining room staff has a lot of turnover and so service can be a bit hit-or-miss. The pizzaiolo sometimes get a little overzealous in blistering the edges of the crust. You can send it back if that happens. That's the bad. The good is that this is the very best pizza you can get north of Boston. It's a first-rate neapolitan, with that tasty, chewy, air-filled crust. Bonus points: the wine and beer selections are excellent and the appetizers and desserts as also really fine. Go. Enjoy. read more

My friend and I were recommended this place if we wanted Neo-Neapolitan pizza. When you walk in you can see the kitchen at work which is really cool. The ambiance of this place is great and decor is really cute. Our server was really personable and had good wine recommendations. She also was able to make a minor change to the pizza I ordered. We ordered two different pizzas, the meltezane and the sausage. Both tasted really good; definitely made with fresh ingredients. Bambolina has some of the most flavorful and unique pizzas you'll find. The restaurant has a cool vibe - even the kids placemats feature references to Vanilla Ice and Lionel Ritchie. We were doing some sight seeing in Salem and saw the high rating from Yelp. Overall the entire experience was amazing and service was on point. They carry Far From the Tree Lei Cider. We had the margarita and soprassata pizzas and they were some of the most delicious pizza we have ever had! We will definitely be back if we're ever in the area! I discovered Bambolina (in Italian - pretty girls!), named for both owners' two daughters, on Yelp and have been dying to check the place out, but due to the busy holiday season, it took us a few months to finally dine at this new "hot spot". I first discovered the art and trend of wood-fired Neapolitan pizza while visiting my brother in NYC. He took me to a place outside of the city (The Parlor - Dobbs Ferry, NY) that was absolutely heavenly, and when Bambolina opened, I could not wait to try it out. I was pleasantly surprised by not only the ambience (One of my major areas for critique) but also the food and drink offerings. The lighting was peaceful, with strung decorative lights hanging high into the ceiling and rafters. The interior was warm and inviting. When we arrived, they offered us the table of our choosing, and we selected the high-top table close to the wood-fired grill, but could have also chosen to sit at the high-top bar overlooking the pizza oven, or at any of the tables dispersed throughout the restaurant. I was very pleased with our selection as we were able to dine across from one another, but still were able to watch the chefs hand craft pizza after pizza, salivating while awaiting our own. We ordered a few appetizers. The roasted brussels sprouts with goat cheese were amazing. The grilled Caesar salad was one of the most amazing things I have ever experienced in my life. I can't even put my finger on what made it so good- but it was. According to my husband, it was the butter-soaked croutons that were char broiled. In any case- it tasted grilled and delicious. We sampled the Sopresata pizza and it met all of our expectations. Savory, crunchy, chewy, but still light and delicious. The sauce was very flavorful, and made with only the finest natural ingredients. We also had a margherita (MY FAVORITE!) pizza. This met and exceeded expectations as well. The service was quick, friendly, and knowledgable. My husband enjoyed craft brewed beer, while I took advantage of the prosecco offerings. I loved the "REVOLVER" gun on the tap- an indication of the "revolving" beer, that changes frequently. The owner (there are two) came over to introduce himself. He was knowledgable, passionate, and down-to-earth. We appreciated his warmth and welcoming nature, happy to be meeting guests of his restaurant. We also appreciated that the parking was easy to come by, unlike many of the restaurants with other locations throughout Salem. The north shore is fortunate to have this gem... we will definitely be back soon! read more

Where to start? This place is an experience. From the fire roasted olives and grilled Caesar salad, to the cappuccino, to the main event, the wood fired pizza, this place delivers excellence. The pizza is the best Napoli style pizza I've ever had. The grilled Caesar salad is the best Caesar salad I've ever had. Even the cappuccino ranks in the top few best I've had. Found this place on our first few days as new Salem residents, and it did not disappoint. Nor has it any of the subsequent visits since. So the Sausage Fra Diavolo is amazing. I was in town for three days and dined here twice, once for lunch and then dinner a couple of days later and ordered the same pasta both times. The Caprese Salad was so fresh and the Margarita Pizza great although I wasn't a fan of how toasty the garlic got on it. They have a great beer and cider selection. Try the pumpkin cider. read more

Just off the tourist path downtown, this is exactly the kind of place you hope to find for a great casual meal. (Or just drinks & small bites.) The space is appealing, with an open kitchen, and they have a great selections of mostly local brews, plus a good selection of wines and non-alcoholic beverages. Service was prompt and attentive without being intrusive (thanks, Tim!) even when the place was almost empty, always a good sign. Our farmer's market pizza was excellent (no problem getting red sauce substituted for pesto). The asparagus soup was outstanding, and might've been the highlight on another night. But oh, the Caesar salad. I pretty much live for the next great Caesar I'll find, and Bambolina's has it: a half head of romaine that's grilled (the smoky flavor is addictive) and served over lots o' grated Parm, topped with exceptional croutons, authentic dressing, and white anchovies. It's unbelievably good. Others have said it's big enough to share, but they give you two forks, and I will stab you with both of them if you try. It's clear that they put a lot of love into what they do, so I'm guessing you won't go wrong with anything on the menu. read more

Gluten free pizza is delicious. We've ordered it several times now. Good beer and wine list. I have no reason to believe the regular (aka non gluten) items are anything but amazing, too. I've had some of their salads as well and they are delicious. I'm eager to try whatever else on their menu my dietary restrictions will allow, soon. Pretty good beer and wine list too: interesting with a pretty varied selection. Hubs is pretty picky and he's always excited when we order from here. What can I say? You wouldn't expect to find a really good Neapolitan pizza place right on the main drag in a little town like Salem, but here we are, and here you should be too. They have the wood-fired oven that chars the crust of your pizza in two minutes, and though some of their ingredient combinations didn't appeal, we were easily able to find two that we liked. The pizzas are 11 inches, but very thin, as is the style, so if you're hungry you can probably finish one by yourself. You do pay a bit more for this pizza than you would elsewhere, but it's worth it. I was surprised to be one of the few patrons on a Sunday afternoon, so I really hope they do better business at dinnertime, because this place was a real find. read more

Delish!!!!!! On a Saturday in Salem every place there is going to be a wait. We got lucky with timing here and were day in like 10-15 minutes. As we were seated, though, it got super busy and no wonder why. Pizza was yummy!! You can change any of the population. They give you those package bread sticks while you wait which was good bc we were hungry!! They serve beer and had a cider from Far From the Tree which we should have just gotten here instead of going to the cider "brewery" (read my review of that place... Not good). I have been eyeing Bambolina ever since I started working in Salem. Everyone told me there food was very good, a little expensive, but worth the money. It looked a little too nice for me to dine in by myself, but after bringing a few friends I was finally able to give it a try! My thoughts are that they have fancy pizza without the pomp. I loved the truffle cauliflower pizza, and the soft egg was a surprisingly delicious addition. My husband ordered the Bolognese and enjoyed it. Before the meal they served these crispy breadsticks in a prepackaged bag, which were a bit odd. Something fresh and warm would have been much more appreciated. I did like that they had imported Italian sodas from cans, which were quite yummy. The decor was rustic- industrial chic, and they had very nice staff. If it were less expensive I would go back more often. read more

This is a nice restaurant - we liked the ambiance and the food (the pizza is not the best we've had, but quite good). The reason for only two three stars in my review was the service. The waiter was so pushy and irritating - he really ruined our evening. He kept pushIng us to order and then kept trying to take our plates and pack our food. It was not even busy (I understand when they try to have more turnover on busy nights, but that was not the case) and we did not stay that long. He was arguing with us and was so frustrating. The absolute best gluten free pizza crust I have ever had. I've tried a lot of gluten free pizza over the last decade, and I said multiple times during dinner that I was nervous that the waitress had made a mistake because the crust was so good and so "normal" tasting that it couldn't actually be gluten free.
