    Chicken almafi
    Carra F.

Went here for a rainy Sunday dinner. Only one big group and a couple plus my party of two when I was there. It's a very small space. The servers were very nice and helpful. They served warm bread right away, which was good. I got the special chicken almafi I think it was called with penne noodles. It was okay. The person I dined with for the chicken Parmesan with spaghetti noodles. It also was just okay. I believe there were two individual bathrooms that were tiny but clean. Overall the food was just okay, but not my preferred type of Italian food. The location is perfect, not far from the parking garage.

Tortellini was delicious! The little bit of a nice garlicky tomato sauce made it all the more better.

Went back this year because it was so good last year. This place must be a hidden gem because it wasn't insanely packed and crazy. It was early, around 5pm on a Thursday night in October and I'm glad that it was so civilized. My daughter and I split the artichoke appetizer. It was very good. We also shared the pumpkin ravioli special which was delicious! My son had the bolognese and said that it was the best he's ever had. He is a cook and has worked in high end restaurants so that is saying a lot! We gobbled it up and I forgot to take pictures. Definitely on my list of must haves when we are in town.

Way overpriced and bland. It's no surprise why this place wasn't busy during dinner in October. I shared the pollo and broccoli pasta and it was milky with plain chicken. Not seasoned at all. The rest of my table had similar experiences with bland dishes. This place also seems to trick you for every dollar. In fine point at the bottom of the menu there is an additional $6 charge to share dishes, an additional charge for more bread, and more. Service was friendly.

A cute little Italian place. You get bread, olive tapenade, butter, and oil for the table. The tagliatelle primavera was bland and under seasoned. The carbonara was good, but not great. The chicken amalfi was delicious. The lamp chops were good, but under seasoned and they came out medium well (could not choose temperature.). The service was okay.

We enjoyed dinner at Bella Verona. It's a quiet, small place with intimate seating. Warm, friendly staff. We ordered off the Specials Blackboard: Linguini with clams in a white sauce, spinach ravioli in a sauce with touch of nutmeg, and house Caprese salad with fresh mozzarella with balsamic vinaigrette. We chose glass of Chianti. Food was delightful and priced higher than the area. Small Gripe: No draught beer Alert: Restroom no bigger than an airline toilet, so unsuitable if disabled.

April 17, 2026 I…read morewent with my parents tonight to the Adriatic Restaurant (Washington Street), Salem, MA. We've started having dinner out twice a month and this was the most recent experience. I had gone online to the NORTH SHORE DINNING PAGE on Facebook and asked people about their experiences with the restaurant in the last two days and here's what people said: "great, tender meatballs", "great eggplant parmigiana", "very good experience". .... And what we found out is that they were right. Those things were all true! Now.... As to what we ordered: I got the grilled octopus. It was the only partial miss on the menu. Arugula just doesn't make a very good sauce and it was a pretty bad base for what would otherwise might have been a great appetizer. My mother got the Caesar salad. It was good. It's a hard thing to screw up. My father ordered the meatballs. They were amazing and delicious - just like Facebook promised. The tzatziki sauce was good. Maybe not as good as mine, but good nonetheless. So dinner.... Mine was the Chicken Saltimboca. It was so good that I'd bathe in the sauce they make with it. I loved eating forkfuls of the chicken with bites of the mashed potatoes. That was really luxuriant. My mother had the Eggplant parmigiana and she wiped out the entire plate. She loved it. My father.... Beef tenderloin tips. Maybe cooked slightly too much, but delicious. He wiped out the plate. To drink.... I was out of the hospital and recovering from brain tumor surgery, so I had the hard cider (3.5% BV), my father had the Peroni (Italian) beer, and my mother had the Bud light. I tasted the Peroni and liked it very much. The hard cider had almost no sweetness to it. It was dry as a higher end brut champagne.... Which actually set off the meal really nicely. My tastes weren't clashing and that was good. Our waiter, Sean, was great. Ask for him! We left a $32 tip, so the bill came to $197.85

She was patient and kind and took the time to understand what we needed. We ordered cocktails... because tonight was the last night I could before I re-start chemotherapy. Both my father and I ordered the Sangria ($14.00) ... And it was *amazing*. Honestly, it was the best I've had since my best friend and I drank together at a Flamenco restaurant in Montreal in June of 1985. My mother ordered the house dry red wine ($10.00) I didn't taste it and she didn't mention whether it was good or not. We ordered one Ceasar Salad ($10.00) and it was both really generous and incredibly delicious (see photo). My parents and I split it three was and it was plenty. The tang of the dressing really worked against the sardines and garlic. I'd definitely go back for more of that!! For dinner, my mother ordered the beef special.... Beef Braciole ($33.00) in an epic sauce. She loved it... but definitely could not finish it!! She brought the leftovers home (as did my father and I). My father ordered the Veal parmigiana ($29.99) and it was a massive, almost overwhelming plate of food (photo attached). He loved it (as did I when I tasted it!). For me?? I ordered the Pollo Vodka Bella Napoli ($26.99 - photo attached). It was a huge, almost overwhelming bowl of food and it was amazing. Deep, rich flavor with mushrooms, bacon, shallots, and tender chunks of chicken. The noodles we all ordered were the home made & hand-made fusilli that are produced in-house. I think that if a chef is going to spend the time necessary to make noodles, you should savor them... and that's what we did. Suzanne offered us a chance at dessert, but we declined, since we knew that if any of us ate a bite more, we would hit critical mass and destroy at least the surrounding block. The only weak point we encountered was the bread. It was weak, drab, and lacking in taste and character. They could do much better on that. Our bill, with taxes, was $162.62. With tip, it came to $195. Totally worth it!

The seafood chowder has a good amount of seafood (shrimp with some scallops), but the seafood was mushy. The chowder was also lacking flavor. The chicken parmigiana was not as good as Olive Garden. The chicken was mushy, and the sauce was watered down/thin.

When we arrived the place was nearly empty, which come to find out places aren't as busy on a Monday. There was one other table finishing up in the main dinning area, and one other group arrived at the same time we did. We were greeted and sat quickly, but that's where the speed of things kinda came to a slow down. I'll start with some of the positives - our waitress was really nice and she had a helper who also was nothing but polite and friendly. The decor is really cool! There was no one in the entire back room of the restaurant, so I went and took a peak back there on the way to the bathroom and it had old cameras, typewriters, cool pieces of art, the main room also have some great scales of justice, and other fun features. They also had all the Halloween decor, if anyone needed to use the restroom we were told to go towards the large mirror, and I would always add on to my friends "with the creepy doll on it". After about 2 to 3 minutes my entire party had and water was brought to the table and served in plastic cups. Which at a place with white table clothes felt a little strange. At some point after our waitress returned to take drink orders and an appetizer of the calamari. She then asked "have I offered you all any bread yet" we said no, but we would love bread. She said "okay it will be $3" and walked away. We all kinda looked at each other confused, because the phrasing seemed like it was complementary bread but we were really hungry at this point and the bread ended up being really good - but it was a small portion for $3. I think 6 thinner slices in total. We waited a while before she returned for our food order. The menu has what you expect from an Italian places but also has a large section of Mexican dishes, which feels mismatched, it wasn't fusion style it was just Italian and Mexican separately, it just feels really disjointed. I went with the bolognese and one of my friends decided to order the tacos because it felt so silly to do in an Italian spot (and who doesn't like tacos generally). The calamari came out at some point after the bread, but we finished the bread, the calamari, and all our waters at a causal pace after that. We were sitting for a while before anyone came back to the room where we were seated. At this point there were maybe 3 or 4 tables sat in our room and possible one other couple up towards the front area. As many of us were out of water, I headed up towards the bar area or host stand to see if I could find someone. I ran into the guy who was assisting with our table and asked if we could get some more water - which happened promptly. About 5 to 10 minutes after that our waitress returned with even more water and told us food would be out soon. The food arrived maybe 10 minutes after that, so it had been a while since we ordered. The bolognese was fine, the pasta wasn't overcooked, the sauce lacked some depth and the meat was a little firmer than anticipated but overall it was still okay. They did offer some Parmesan cheese to be added to any of the pastas or tacos. The total for 5 people, with no alcohol, one soda, one order of calamari, the $3 bread, and the already added gratuity (which they did mention was already added in at 20% and it was also stated on the bill) ended up being $208. Overall, the food was fine, nothing to make a special trip for. Service was friendly, but very slow. The vibes were a little mismatched - Mexican food with Italian food and plastic cups with white table clothes. Overall, it's a fine experience if you are needing a reservation.

The freshness and size of the calamari were spot-on, earning a solid 9/10. Next up, the Eggplant Rollatine($16.95), stuffed with ricotta, topped with provolone cheese, basil, and marinara sauce. A cheesy delight for eggplant aficionados, also a 9/10. Entrees were a treat, starting with the Gnocchi Basilico ($17.95): Potato gnocchi with sautéed garlic, fresh tomatoes, basil, and olive oil. Possibly the fluffiest gnocchi outside of mom's kitchen - another 9/10. ‍ The Chicken Miguel ($23.95): Panko crusted chicken over potato gnocchi in a creamy Marsala sauce. A Downeast cider washed it all down and was refreshing. I went on a weekday so there were a few people sitting at the bar with me but overall the place wasn't packed. After waiting about 20 minutes, we were finally seated. Despite that rocky start, the food was so outstanding that we ended up coming back every single day during our stay in Salem. The biggest inconsistency was the service. Out of the four days we visited, only one day stood out as having exceptional service. Most of the time we had to flag someone down for drink refills, order more oysters, ask for Parmesan cheese, or even leave our credit card hanging off the edge of the table before someone would notice we were ready to pay. Now, onto the food because that's what kept bringing us back. The clam chowder and lobster bisque were the true stars of the menu. These are the kinds of soups you'll still be thinking about long after your vacation is over. The lobster bisque was unbelievably rich, creamy, and packed with generous pieces of lobster. The clam chowder had the perfect consistency and, unlike so many others, was loaded with tender clams instead of mostly potatoes. The one-and-a-half-pound lobster was sweet, tender, and practically melted in my mouth. I wasn't in love with my pasta dish. The scallops, however, completely stole the show. They tasted as though they had been pulled from the ocean just moments before being cooked perfectly fresh, sweet, and delicate. Unfortunately, the pasta itself was undercooked and lacked flavor, even after the Parmesan cheese finally arrived. The strawberry shortcake was the perfect dessert on a hot Fourth of July afternoon. It was light, fresh, and exactly what we wanted to finish the meal. And the oysters? Absolutely phenomenal. Every single day. They were consistently fresh, delicious, and one of the main reasons we kept coming back. While the service has plenty of room for improvement, the kitchen is doing something truly special. The quality of the seafood alone was enough to make us return day after day, and that's about the highest compliment I can give a restaurant.
