Oh my goodness what can I say about this amazing restaurant. We have been coming here for years. The food is delicious! The servers work extremely hard to make your experience wonderful. Nancy is a spitfire. She is warm, friendly, funny and we appreciate her sense of humor! Uncle Jackie is always there to assist and help to also make your experience amazing. If you're lucky enough, you may be able to see some hula dancing or hear a children's choir sing. We love coming here and have been for over two decades. Lots of locals came in and it was clear they had a nice relationship with all of them! We ordered the Kalua pork - very nice sauce, had a sweetness that can only be described as delicious. The pork was cook perfectly it was so tender. Thai coconut sauce noodles, shrimp Really lovely, just the right amount of coconut and spice. It seems to be a popular dish and the tables next to us ordered this for majority of their party. Bamboo brûlée was really yummy and a nice way to end the meal. I wish it was open for dinner all week but understandable since thankfully Hawi-Kapa'au is not a big tourist hang at night. food is great, drinks are great, especially the Bamboozle Ice Tea and the servers treat us like friends and family. The kahlua stuffed chicken is killin! Hard to order other entrees but we did and they were delightful as well. the restaurant is in what used to be the Takata Store which make for great ambience. Great ambience and fantastic food. The reviews were very accurate. The servers were very prompt and attentive. Whenever our water glasses looked like they were getting low, they would come by and fill them up. I liked the fabric napkins. Nice touch! Whenever we are on this part of the big Island we make it a special point to come to bamboo restaurant. Its definitely one of the best on all of the Big Island, and In my opinion one of the best in all of Hawaii. The restaurant itself used to be an old market and has been restored lovingly. Beautiful artwork on the walls from local artists with an extended gallery upstairs. They even have a little gift boutique inside as well with local crafts and clothing. As far as the food goes we had fresh opakapaka that evening we were there. We also had beautiful Caesar salad's and of course their signature mai tais made with fresh Lilikoi. Desert also featured Lilikoi in the form of a crème brûlée and their cheesecake. We opted for the third dessert as well which was a chocolate bomb cake. The owners are super gracious people, and this is a local hang out because of the music entertainment, Hawaiian and contemporary tunes on Friday and Saturday nights. Overall there's nothing I can say bad about Bamboo. Must come. You won't regret it. read more

This is the most family-friendly restaurant I have ever visited in my life. We have a 3 year old, and when the waitress brought over our menus and said hello to him, he was clearly grumpy (close to nap time) because he didn't want to say hi. She took notice and said, "Okay, we need to get him some food!" And immediately rattled off their children's menu items, asked us which one he would like, and gave us her recommendation (butter noodles) when we asked what is usually the biggest hit. She asked if he would like Parmesan on top, and when we weren't sure, she said "On the side, no problem!" I was in awe. They brought out his dish before my husband and I even gave our selections! Genius. Completely genius! We were so much better able to enjoy our meal as a family without our son being upset that his food was taking too long. And he eats so slowly, we could all enjoy our meals together. I had the salad and it was divine, full of local flavors and textures. The papaya seed dressing was fantastic. My husband got the fish sandwich and loved it- that is his go-to order at most HI restaurants. He also tried the Pina Kohala and really liked that too. We will definitely be back! Service was more than exceptional, there was always someone asking if we needed or wanted anything else more or whatever. It has been a very long time since experiencing this high level of service, service that wasn't contrived: everyone was just happy to "serve". The food it what topped this off, worth we could give 6 stars...Fresh, delicious, and near perfect, just couldn't find any flaws. While in Kona and frustrated with the amount of tourists and traffic, we looked for a place that was locally sourced and family owned. To our surprise, we found this perfect place, Bamboo Restaurant. The history behind how it came about was pretty amazing and to see how many uses this building had previously gives it an authentic experience with a rustic touch. We started out with the Mai Tai and the Firerock Pale Ale. Amazing drinks and the craft beer was phenomenal... I also had the Mojito with coconut rum and it was to die for... literally I would have one if I had the opportunity to choose a last meal. For food, we got the coconut shrimp to start, which was juicy and flavorful. I wish we would have gotten more of these! For entreés, my husband ordered the macadamia nut crusted chicken stuffed with Kailua pork and I ordered the grass-fed ribeye steak with cheesy mashed potatoes. All I can say is oh...my...god.... I had to get a box because I couldn't finish it all. It was amazing from start to finish. If you get the steak, I highly recommend the Hawaiian pepper butter to go on top. Gives it a wonderful spice! Finally to finish, we got the Brulee to share, which was lilikoi flavored. I got one bite and my husband inhaled the rest. When the waitress commented on how fast it was gone, he said "I don't f*#k around" and she shot back, "no, you don't f*#k around!" Everyone was so welcoming and helpful and hardly any wait.
