This is a fantastic little Thai spot that offers Lunch Specials M-F. They accommodate eating preferences (Omni, Vegetarian, and Vegan) as well as food allergies). They proactively asked what spice level we wanted in our meals. My husband had the Pad See Eiw lunch special and added shrimp. He also asked for thin noodles instead of the wide ones described on the menu. I had the vegan Mussaman Curry and added tofu, no peanut. Thai curries are a rare treat for me, because most Thai curries include shrimp paste and/or oyster sauce. Our nice server brought the Curry paste out for me to read the ingredients. I wish I could say the food that gave me food poisoning and made me suffer like this the past week was worth it, but I truly, truly was not. Although the Tom Kha soup was tasty and I'm sure wasn't the culprit, it had three small pieces of chicken in the broth. The pad Thai was a whole other situation. I knew something tasted not quite fresh and the beef had a weird texture but I knew starting the next morning I had made a mistake. Six days, urgent care and IV treatment and testing confirms food poisoning from either vegetables not properly washed or undercooked beef. Seeing as all I had that day was toast and coffee at home that morning, this was it. As someone who never gets sick, just bummed the UberEats ratings didn't reflect what this place offers but I now see that I should have checked Yelp first! I usually order take out at Bambu Thai Cuisine, but I decided to go with a friend for a late lunch. It's a cozy little restaurant with traditional Thai decor. The service was just right. Our server checked on us periodically and let us enjoy our meal. I ordered the pnang curry (spicy) and it was delicious. I also ordered the Thai Iced coffee and requested it with less condensed milk. It was perfect! This is also my go-to restaurant for soup when I'm not feeling well. It's my secret non medicinal cure. (Not so secret anymore. Lol) The location is a little odd because it's in a tiny strip mall hidden behind a gas station. When you turn into the Jimmy John's, you are headed in the right direction. i decided I wanted some Thai for lunch I went to Bambu Thai in Elm hurst which is literally 4 blocks from my job. I order the chicken & Broccoli lunch special for $13 and they did not offer napkins or silver wear when i called back to inquire I was told that you have to ask for napkins/ silver wear? mind you I open my food and they gave me more broccoli, carrots and mushroom that anything so It appeared as if I ordered a veggie lunch special. Have been here several times and have always had ok service and good food. I love the boat that they serve the lunch special in. The portion is large enough that I usually have some leftover. The rice is always fresh and cooked properly, the egg rolls are tasty, t he cucumber salad is nice and vinegary. The entree I ordered had fresh veggies, nice chunks of chicken with great flavor. They were out of Thai Iced Coffee and the lunch special was a good value but extremely oily. Service was from the same girl and she was quick on her feet and served us ahead of other (ruder) guests who did not say thank you to her once. Ambiance was trash, however. Everyone was shouting over one another to be the loudest in the room but when my wife and I came in and wanted to have a quiet lunch, everyone started talking quieter and less because, I assume, they thought we were listening to their unimportant conversations. I suggest getting takeout from here instead so you don't have to sit in a place with creepy individuals who also eat here. read more

Update 2/20: I corrected my mistake below but the delicious rolls I had last time were the SUMMER rolls. Got the SPRING rolls this time and was so disappointed. Totally bland, very small, wrapping was doughy, sauce was nothing. Skip those. Get the summer rolls. Also got the Tom Yum to go; wasn't as good, just some soggy tomato in it, very little mushroom, but quite a few shrimp. I think this is just better to have at the restaurant. The pad Thai was also short on pork this time but was still delicious with the perfect peanut sauce that I could just eat with a spoon. I don't know where these nay-sayers were eating, but I have eaten regularly at Bambu Thai for the past eight or ten years, and never had a bad meal. I had to go to carry-out during Covid, but now they are back to dine-in. The kitchen has always been a bit slow, but the quality of food makes the wait worthwhile. Prices have gone up (what hasn't?) but the portions have stayed the same. Just make sure you have enough cash, as they really prefer that you don't use a credit card. They have to pay a fee on a card transaction, and it also makes it hard for them to purchase supplies. Try the red curry, the pad si-ew, and the cashew chicken (or beef). Want heat? My Fiance and I are moving to the Oak Brook area, so we need to find new restaurants, Thai being a priority. From the outside, it might not necessarily look like a good Thai place to eat at, but on the inside, it's very clean and nice. We were the only ones there for lunch, but there were a lot of pick-ups and carry-outs. We just wanted a snack so all we got was Chicken Tom Yum and fresh spring rolls. I am going to make this short and sweet... I have been here 3-4 times over several years and always had a good experience. I have also done take out a few times. If this restaurant was closer to me I would come here more often. What I like about the take-out is that it comes in plastic containers (instead of styrofoam). I had been recommended to try the curry, but instead my eyes went right for the garlic noodle and requested it with tofu in place of chicken. I dont write flowery reviews but Bambu is a solid Thai take out joint. I have school aged kids who like the satay, fried rice, and pot stickers. I have had curry and drunken chicken and I enjoyed it. There were leftovers so the portions were fine. I ate all the leftovers so the food was good. We also had something spicy and they weren't afraid to give it some heat. My iPhone changed Bambu Thai to Bambi Thai. I thought it might have been a suggestion, but there I couldn't find venison on the menu. So, I ordered the Basil Chicken (extra spicy) for lunch. It was a little greasy, but had a great flavor. My friend ordered the Cashew Chicken, which had a little better presentation. In retrospect, I wish I had tasted it. We both agreed that we really enjoyed our lunch and would definitely come back. The restaurant was clean, the hostess friendly, the parking lousy (very narrow). Bambu Thai was one of my great comforts during the worst of the pandemic. I order from here often, always getting the red curry with tofu at medium spice level (it's vegan). It's an incredible dish, being very filling, with the slurry of coconut milk and curry mixing with the rice and strips of tofu, and the vegetables providing various textures that lull the senses into a spicy cocoon of culinary pleasure. I order this dish probably twice a week and pick it up at the restaurant now for an affordable price, but during the worst of the pandemic I would order this from DoorDash quite often and pay the premiums required from the fee and tip because it was genuinely worth every penny. I have not eaten in the restaurant since the pandemic began, but the atmosphere is very nice, with rich, slightly exotic but unpretentious decor showing an aesthetic that promotes a distinctly Buddhist and Thai sense of serene beauty in the surroundings, with a kind waitstaff that is punctual and friendly, but to the point. This restaurant is tucked mostly away from sight on York Road near Butterfield, but if you find it and take the time to come in, a meal there is a beautiful, pleasing respite from the day's activities that leaves one happy and refreshed. read more

I came here twice because I was unsure how to feel about it the first time. I ordered the green and panang curries, cashew chicken and the tom kha and tom yum soups. This place is suited more for western taste; not that that's bad, just know that most dishes are sweeter, less fish-saucy and not as spicy. The tom kha was pretty tasty though. Although sweeter than some soups I've had, I liked it because it had a lot of vegetables and chicken and felt more substantial than a lot of other places. The green curry was the better one out of the two curries, although both were extremely watery. My main complaint about the green curry was the lack of fresh vegetables. It seemed like there was an entire can of sliced bamboo in the dish but that was about it. With that being said, I would have ordered the green twice if I knew how bad the panang curry was. It was so watery that it tasted like bell pepper soup at times. The cashew chicken actually surprised me and tasted better than expected and I would be more willing to recommend that if you're not feeling the typical pad thai and curry selection. read more

We have been going to Bambu Thai for about five years now. The food is very good and the prices are right. Service is alright (not particularly snappy) and for dining in the atmosphere is decent; you can only do so much with a strip mall location. Of course carry-out is a great option as well. The Pad Woon Sen Chicken (though I opt to substitute tofu) is my favorite dish there, packing a lot of flavor into a seemingly simple dish. [Where can you get those skinny clear noodles for at-home use?!] The Tom Yum and Tom Ka soups are wonderful pick-me-ups for those who like a bit of heat.
