We had to go to Grants Pass to run an errand and we did a Yelp search of what restaurants were open on Sunday. We landed on Ban Mai. We drove to it and found that it isn't indoor seating, but decided to order to go anyway. Wow, we were so pleasantly surprised by how absolutely tasty this food is! We got papaya salad, Chicken pad thai, pad prik king with chicken, orange chicken and red curry chicken. It was fantastic. We sat up a couple stores outside, on the tables at the ice cream place called Udders- which will be my next review- cuz sitting outside having lunch, then smelling them make homemade waffle cones- lol ya know where i went for dessert We will drive the 25 minutes to go to Ban Mai in the future. Vegans can feel secure eating here. The staff always asks the right questions and the food is great! I love the Larb salad with fried tofu and the fresh spring rolls. My favorite thing about the Larb is the small chunks of tofu - they make the salad nice and "meaty" and they are flavored to perfection. The spring rolls are hearty and bright with a couple tasty sauces to boot. The food is always ready on time for pick-up and the staff is focused and kind. Has been my go to place for years and years, but things have recently changed. Prices have gone up dramatically and portions cut significantly. The Ban Mai Fried Rice is now $21 and has been loaded with so much MSG that the next day both my wife and I were unwell and dealing with stomach issues. The staff is always friendly and the place is clean, but the cost and quality balance is just so that it's not worthwhile to continue going. Not bad but not what I expected. Nice change compared to the fast food hamburger places nearby. I got the pineapple fried rice which had onion, pea, carrot, pineapple, raisins, cashews in a thai/curry powder. I didn't taste as much of the curry powder that is usually in the dish. I got it 3* which was OK heat but wasn't the usual type of spice in Thai food. It almost tasted like a Chinese spicy sauce. The peas and carrots weren't fresh and the raisins tasted a bit weird. But the cashews were great touch in it. If I stop by again, I'd probably try a noodle dish. Clean bathroom open which is helpful. And safe pandemic measures: spaced out seat to wait for takeout only, laminated menu that gets wiped after use. read more

Took about 55 minutes for our food to arrive, while take-out orders came and went, the entire restaurant went from open to closed, and others were served. Longest time for any Thai restaurant I have ever been to. When we asked about status, the waiter brushed it off with a quick "we're busy" comment and nothing else. The food was OK though below average. The sauce made the chicken pad thai taste fishy. The fried rice was nothing special. Just not a good experience overall. I enjoyed the food. Not best and definitely not the worst Thai food I've had. But a place I would would have tried again. The service was unprofessional at best. Rotsi (sp?) greeted me and was fine until she asked if I was over 21 when I ordered wine. I jokingly said "yes I'm darn near dead". Which she proceeded to think as a go to card to loudly repeat it not once but many times to her coworkers stressing how "awkward " it was. Her and the bartender spent a great deal of time not laughing with me but at me when I was obviously in hearing distance of everything they said. I would have just normally blown this off until the two of them started making fun of other customers in hearing range. It was incredibly unprofessional especially when a couple of ladies they made fun of were obviously regulars. I was just looking for comfort food, wine and to escape from responsibility for a little while. Not to be made fun of, deal with a server who could not control herself from laughing at people, her and a bartender not once checking in regarding food or if I needed anything else. When it was one of the dishes I ordered here, I was pleasantly surprised at how deliciously good it was! Another dish I tried and really liked was the Satay Chicken (appetizer) which I asked to be served with the rest of the meal. We tried Ban Mai because I had a Thai food craving and I am glad we did! We were greeted by the friendly server with a smile, and she did a great job taking care of us! We ordered way too much food for the 3 of us and left perfectly stuffed with still lots of food left over. The coconut milk chicken soup was nice and flavorful. Not overly spicy. The pad thai we had with scallops, and the scallops were nicely cooked and plentiful, overall one of the better pad thai's I have had in a long while. Delicious Thai Food in this little unassuming restaurant in a little mall. I had the Drunken Man's Noodles , it was packed with fresh vegetables. Very generous portions too.
