Nice ambiance. Staff was very friendly. As an appetizer, I ordered the cheese plate. A bit more cheese than bread to pair with it, but workable. Good selection of cheeses. Some red grapes on the side. For the entree, I tried La French Country crepe. This includes goat cheese, apples, and candied walnuts. Normally, this is a good mix of ingredients, but it was made as though the chef doesn't actually understand how to make crepes. Or things that people will enjoy eating. You do not stuff a crepe like a burrito. So, though the cheese, the apples, and the walnuts tasted good individually, there were FAR too much of them. I had to take out probably two-thirds of the contents. Also, the walnuts were entire halves. I don't think anyone wants to bite into an entire walnut half in their crepe. Please grind these down. For dessert, I went with the bourbon banana cake. Oh, Banana Cafe, you didn't. You stored this without sufficient covering and so it tasted like the stale inside of a refrigerator. After searching for a good breakfast place to eat while visiting Key West, my bf and I came upon Banana Cafe. Don't let the name fool you, the coffee and crepes are amazing here. I ordered the Inside out French Benedict with the key lime hollandaise on the side. It was the best meal I eat my entire trip! As you stroll down the streets of Key West, you'll smell the amazing crepes and know you've reached the destination. I had an iced latte, a breakfast crepe with bacon and eggs... as well as a "key lime" desert crepe... the breakfast crepe wasn't something I'm familiar with, and was intresting... the crepe is made and then the egg is almost fried on top of the crepe ( fries is not my preference... but it was decent with the bacon and cheese) the key lime desert crepe was similar the traditional lemon and powdered sugar in the fact that it was lime instead of the lemon. The crepes here were a little thicker than I'm used to, and to me favored pancakes more (they were fluffy) but were super tasty, and complimented the "stuffings" well. It had blue cheese crumbles and blue cheese sauce and a side salad. The flavor was exquisite. My fiancé had the Banana Burger, it was delectable as well. Food portions are plenty. Prices are great! We loved the atmosphere, we sat on the side opened area to the outside and just took our time. Island time, French cuisine. Just a relaxing atmosphere with superb music! (40's). One of my favorite breakfasts during my time here. I ordered the salmon bagel with cream cheese, tomatoes, red onions, greens, and capers. High quality ingredients, I enjoyed every bite. We also got a side of the breakfast potatoes which are good as well. I didn't care for the Bloody Mary- too much horseradish which I normally enjoy but resulted in a bitter tasting drink. We ordered the artisanal French bread basket and a French onion soup to start. Both were delicious! I ordered the sirloin steak & bleu salad and my hubby had the grilled salmon. The food was so fresh and tasty and the portions were generous. For dessert Jen recommended the strawberry cheesecake crepe. I don't normally love crepes, but this one was also delicious! Don't be fooled by the ambience and vibe you see from the street. Walked by this place numerous times and felt like we had to stop. We were going in there with high expectations, ordered a crepe and a waffle. The crepe was soft and not a crisp crepe, it was loaded in sauce and there were barely any eggs in the crepe. The waffle looked like it was amazing but it was as hard as a rock. The food did not have any flavor. The service was very good, and that's as far as it went. We ate two bite of each plate and decided we had to leave. The waitress removed one of the meals, but after the bad food experience we were surprised they didn't comp our coffees which would have gone a long way. We were just looking for a quick place for lunch and stumbled upon this gem. Beautifully decorated it feels like you just walked into France. If I lived in Key West I'd be a regular in a heartbeat. It was hard to choose a crêpe but I decided to order La Veggie & Avocado. I love a beet and goat cheese mixture. Since the key lime sangria is one of their most popular drinks I ordered one. It was refreshing but a little too sweet for my taste. I'll get the rosé next time. Then there was the blt sandwich which I didn't have but my friend loved. I tried the chips though they we're deliciously crispy. Our food came out within 10 minutes! 10 minutes and it was good can't beat that! There are so many pretty pictures and the stairs are even painted. I didn't go upstairs but it is a patio and would be a cute spot to have a raised outdoor meal. I will say though there was more than 1 French Breakfast restaurant along Duval St near the southern most point, but we looked at the menus on the door and thought this place sounded more interesting. Cute place with a nice casual atmosphere. They have a good amount of seating, most indoor on the first floor but they also have a few outdoor seats on the first floor as well as indoor and outdoor seats on the 2nd floor. We came around 9am and sat on the 2nd floor outside and it was all covered so we weren't hot from the sun. I started my day with an iced mocha coffee. It was fine and then ordered the La Seafood Crepe ($16.95). It sounds a bit pricey but damn it was worth EVERY PENNY!! Can definitely say it was the best Crepe I've ever had!! I'm a fan of savory Crepes more than sweet so I can't speak for those who prefer sweet Crepes. The fact that I love seafood too also makes it a clear winner, and I've had numerous seafood Crepes in the past too. The sauce with the lemon hit the spot and there was so much shrimp and scallops!! I wasn't expecting as many scallops as there were, but I guess it is Key West so I suppose it's plentiful. My friend ordered the Complete Breakfast Crepe ($9.50) with sausage and loved it. When I tried it, it totally tasted like breakfast in a Crepe with its egg, sausage, cheese and gravy! Our server was very good and took care of us, everyone was nice, if I so happen to find myself back in Key West for any reason, I'll def want another Seafood Crepe! read more
