The Band Box is a great place and the food never disappoints!!! The wait can get a bit long if you have a group but it is worth the wait!!!

I live in the neighborhood and I have given this place three chances. Hire another waitress! One waitress is not enough. The place was dirty and full of flies. If you had competion in the neighborhood you would not make it. read more

Just went there for dinner. Don't turn away from this because how it looks! I almost did and I would have been missing out. Good burger for the price, although the add-ons were overpriced. I just had a simple cheeseburger. I also really loved that they put onions and pickles on the side of your burger so you can construct it yourself. The menu is really tiny, which I think is great because they give you a few good choices and that's that. Overall the place was just dirty, there were a lot of flies, and the service wasn't anything special. My family seemed to enjoy their omelets, but I didn't try them. Loved my classic breakfast (2 over easy, American fries, wheat toast). Perfect environment for the counter service, table by the window, or nice booth in the sun. For those who use "greasy spoon" with fondness, this it the place. I was thinking it could be called "ground zero" for MPLS breakfast joints. If I had a constructive criticism: forks are too puny, and toast is too dry. But I use toast to sop up the yolk anyway. Go. Keep it healthy. I'd like to hope that we hit them on a bad day as I do love a great greasy spoon, but I am not sure if I have ever experienced worse service. We came in with our kids. The four of us ordered. Came here due to the good Yelp reviews and do not regret it at all. The bun has to be one of the best buns I've ever had, buttery, warm, and soft. On a conference to Minneapolis I'd read briefly about this place and stopped in for a bite to eat late afternoon on a Thursday. The waitresses were cheerful and chatty. It was a great atmosphere. Throughout the meal I must have had my water refilled six times (I love my water). The hamburger I got with coleslaw and french fries piled on top was excellent. I savored every bite. The super thinly sliced french frires added a great crunch to the burger which was itself an amazing piece of beef. I would definitely find my way back here if I could. My only complaint was the lack of beer. My burger could definitely have gone done more smoothly with a cool refreshing pint. read more

We got here and I was skeptical based on the exterior appearance of the restaurant but seriously the food here is terrific. We got breakfasts all around for dinner. I went in here with my bf the other day and I really liked the environment and the food. I had the buffalo bleu burger with a sort of blue cheese and buffalo sauce on it. The sauce was muted but it still tasted very good. My bf had the BLT and I tried it and it was very good. The burgers weren't coated in grease and I enjoyed my meal. I spent about 10 dollars (8.50 for the meal, the rest for the tip). It is a little bit more expensive than Our Kitchen or Mickey's diner in St. Paul but it is much cleaner and a quieter atmosphere despite the sort of sketchy area around it. I did hesitate to go here due to the notoriety of Chicago Avenue and the bus route that passes through (the infamous number 5) but the people I saw in the restaurant were mostly yuppies and the elderly i'm guessing from the nearby nursing home. I will certainly return here. Their menu had a distinctive flair to it that most other greasy spoons much less restaurants in general lack. read more

OMG!! Absolutely some of the Worst service I've ever had in my life!! I chose this place based off the reviews, I was in downtown Minneapolis for the day & usually (holes in the wall) are the best places to go. Avoid this place at all costs!!! When I walked in, I was never greeted with a hello or any form of hospitality, so I sat myself. Then a guy came over to ask for my drink order, brought my water & refused to answer a question I had since it was my first time visiting. The waitress finally came to take my order after she helped 4 guys that walked in after me. I placed my order with her, finally the food came. It was mediocre, at best. It reminded me of Waffle House! Yuck!! Then she brings my coffee with no cream & no sugar, nor did she ask if I may need Anything during the entire meal time. The whole staff also avoided eye contact, very strange, indeed. Needless to say, I will Never return!!! Maybe it's a Northern thing, but in the South you would lose your job for such a lack of concern for the guest. Definitely not worth the price, actually not worth much at all. This is a gem of a place! Very small, all food is fresh and local. I had the Sloppy Bro (no cheese) and fresh cut fries. Definitely the best sloppy joe I've ever had. Served on a fresh baked roll from the bakery down the street, lightly grilled. And I loved the fries. Thin cut, and skin on. I will definitely be going back! read more
