Summary: + good price…read more+ fast and overall fine service + overall nice workers - poor communication - some unprofessionalism - some damages I went back and forth between 3 and 4 stars, but ultimately landed on 3. I want to provide enough context so anyone considering Solidarity Movers can make an informed decision. Overall, this was one of the better moves I've had, but not one that warrants the 5-star reviews I see here. My husband and I moved from MA to NY due to family circumstances. The move was already stressful before it began, which is relevant because Solidarity was recommended by a friend who had a great experience with them. Given some poor experiences I've had with movers in the past, I felt confident choosing them. Unfortunately, things started off rocky. I completed a video walkthrough, received an initial quote, and then requested a revision. After that, communication stalled. Multiple follow-ups went unanswered, and I couldn't even get confirmation that my request was being worked on. After about a day of silence while other companies were responding consistently, I was ready to book elsewhere and left a review reflecting my experience. Within minutes, owner Zak called me. He was understanding, professional, and genuinely seemed to care about my concerns. Communication improved immediately, I received the revised quote, and their pricing felt fair, so I booked the move. A couple of weeks before the move, I reached out to confirm everything was still on track and asked about payment. I was told, in writing by Mike, that the remaining balance would be due "upon completion of your move." To me, that clearly meant after delivery. The move was scheduled for June 19 with overnight delivery on June 20. The crew was originally expected between 12 PM and 2 PM but arrived around 4 PM due to traffic. Traffic happens, and I had no issue with the delay itself. The crew was polite, worked efficiently, and seemed to handle our belongings with care. Unfortunately, this is where my experience started to decline. While packing, I overheard two crew members make a joke about my husband and me. It wasn't the worst thing I've ever heard, but it was disappointing to become the subject of a gay joke, especially from a company that publicly projects queer allyship. I chose not to make an issue of it, but another customer may have felt differently. Once loading was complete, the foreman informed me that the remaining balance was due immediately. This directly contradicted the written communication I had received. When I raised the issue, Mike acknowledged there had been a miscommunication but insisted I still had to pay on the spot. What made the interaction frustrating was how dismissive he came across. He stated this was standard procedure and said he would investigate the miscommunication, but unless there is another Mike, the miscommunication originated with him. Rather than create additional stress for myself, I paid the balance and moved on. To be clear, I still tipped the crew generously because they worked hard. By the end of the move, they had received $1,200 total in gratuity, or $400 per mover. The next day, delivery was delayed again due to traffic, but the unloading process itself was quick and organized. The crew followed instructions, reassembled our storage bed, and got everything into the house efficiently. After unloading, I was asked to sign paperwork stating everything had been delivered without damage. This struck me as odd because we hadn't unpacked a single box yet, so there was no realistic way to verify that. Like many people at the end of a move, I signed because I was exhausted and just wanted the process finished. While unpacking later, I discovered our $1,500 credenza had been damaged. Two interior shelves were broken, one completely split in half. Several glass items were also broken in transit. Nothing irreplaceable, but damage nonetheless. Could I file a claim? Sure. But after an already stressful interstate move, I don't have the time or energy to go through another lengthy process. Instead, I'm leaving this review so others can make an informed decision. Despite everything, I would still consider recommending Solidarity Movers, especially for a local move. The crew worked hard, and this was far from the worst moving experience I've had. However, the communication issues, payment confusion, dismissive handling of that confusion, inappropriate comment, and damage to our belongings prevent me from rating the experience higher. One of the kitchen packers opens lid of my spice box (I had leaves and chillies puts his nose in sniffs and asks what is it? 3. Packed every little thing in white wrapper so unpacking was hell. Single stainless steel spoon wrapped in 4 layers of packing . 4. Who does this .packing open can of bleach with groceries. While unpacking I saw white dust thought its paint once I hit end of box it was bleach so ended up throwing everything from that box. Which professional mover does that 5. Random packing. I had very organized closet but they picked random items and packed in diff boxes so i had box with sweaters pillow covers photo frames and belts all from diff parts of closet. LASTLY we were given pricing we paid that by bill and paid $800 extra over that without receipt as they demanded that they packed box. When vector gave me a quote it included 10 medium boxes $20 per box but the guys packed everything with white wrapper in kitten not one but 4 sheets and increased boxes packed to 30 , unethically charging us for small boxes stuffed with white paper. Please note it was a very painful experience and no one deserves this kind of billing or nonsense

One thing that really stood out to me was that instead of asking me how many boxes I need, they asked me to send them pics of my place and stuff, and they calculated the number of small, medium and large boxes I need. It's so easy to underestimate and get a different price at the end. Also, I know I wanted packers because its speeds up the entire process of moving and settling in. I'm so glad I did with Roadway. It usually takes me over half a week to pack and be stressed for over a week, but Diego and his 3 teammates packed up our studio in 2-3 hours. They're so professional. They moved so quickly with care and accuracy. Most importantly, all my kitchen appliances were wrapped with care and delivered and arrived to my new apartment in the same condition. It took us about 2 hrs to settle in, and they once again unpacked most of the furnitures and reassembled them, making me feel settled in and relaxed. I cannot thank their team enough. They're all so polite, friendly and efficient. Within 1 day, I already feel 95% settled in. It's the easiest, stress-free moving experience I had in a while!

Before they even arrived, I got a tracking link to follow their location just like Uber, which immediately made me feel at ease. Crisanto and his crew showed up right on time and were incredible. They worked quickly but carefully, wrapping all of my furniture and somehow managing three giant mirrors without a single issue. Not one complaint and not one moment of stress. What really stood out was how above and beyond they went. They helped me figure out which part of my couch would actually fit in my space, laid out my rugs, and organized everything so I could still move around my studio comfortably. Also shoutout to one of the crew members who was on his first day. You truly could not tell. The whole team was professional, efficient, and just genuinely great to work with. This was hands down the easiest move I've ever had. If you are debating which moving company to use, this is your sign. Go with them.

This review has been a very long time coming-- i'm not the most sprightly with feedback -- but I remember my first move with Band With a Van like it was yesterday: Rob responded promptly, had an easy-going phone manner, was super knowledgeable with NYC neighborhoods and all manner of quirky building restrictions and, perhaps most impressively, arrived exactly on time. I needed to ride with him about an hour in the middle of day-time traffic from Inwood, to Bushwick. Not only was the ride itself as smooth as possible, but it was actually made enjoyable by his sense-of-humor and great conversational skills. And ladies, rest assured he's an absolute professional, not an ounce of sleaziness here. I've since had the pleasure of seeing him in action on many moves, he and his associates are well-oiled machines -- just be specific with what you need, and he'll get the job done. He's also so well-connected in the community that he'll be able to recommend and vouch for other reliable local movers so you're not left in the lurch, in the rare instance when he can't do the move himself. My sister in NY was just planning to move a place from Brooklyn to NY and searching for a good and just cost for moving. And when I saw this band with a van on yelp such as there were several positive feedback then, which moved me to choose this band with a van for moving. I recommend this band with a van because: 1. They could give you different, very nice and comprehensive quotes. 2. They could give you a safe travel and handle your things with care. 3. They have well trained movers. 4. They could guarantee you a good and satisfactory moving. 5. And a very affordable moving quotes that you need. I haven't experienced other mover that gives a satisfying customer service as this. I would highly recommend these guys to anyone!! Rob and Alberto showed up at 11 AM on the dot. They were friendly and professional from the moment they arrived. Rob took a look around, told me we would take two trips, one for furniture, one for remainder of boxes. I was blown away by how fast my bedroom furniture was loaded into the van and how much stuff actually fits in that van. Loading and unloading was done with respect to my belongings but in the quickest most efficient way possible. My move was completed in just under two hours (I only moved a few blocks away). I will be recommending them to anyone I know that's moving and would definitely use them again for future moves. They really helped to alleviate the stress that comes with moving day! read more

I joined Yelp just so I could give Band with a Van the excellent review it deserves- what an unbelievably awesome moving company! Rob was super sweet, considerate and accommodating to all my moving needs on the phone and on the job. My move took barely any time at all (an hour and fifteen minutes) and it was INCREDIBLY reasonable price-wise ($85 for the whole shebang). Rob is obviously a very skilled and efficient mover plus he's a genuinely kind and honest guy- he was really helpful in relieving the stress of my move. This is the second time I've used Band With a Van. The first time was to pick up some items I purchased on Craigslist from one location and drop them off at another. The second time was to move my son into Manhattan from Long Island into his new apartment. Rob responded immediately to my requests, gave an accurate estimate both times, and never even asked for a deposit. He showed up on time (actually early), kept cool and calm when some problems came up in the building my son moved into, and was just great throughout the whole process. These guys are awesome. We were moving just down the road. Rob was going to be away, and so he referred us to his colleague Dan and another Rob. Not only did they stay in close communication with us - always answering the phone, very friendly - they were also incredibly flexible. We had to change our move time due to late painters - no problem. Then, when our seemingly easy move began taking epic proportions, Dan was clear about our choices and resolute in getting the job done. Rob helped us move our daughter into Manhattan last summer and was great on a really hot day. We did a last minute move with our son this weekend and Rob was not available but recomended Dan to help us -Not a big job - just unloading our truck - He and brought another guy - got there early to save a parking space for our truck and did a great job ! 4th floor walkup and they easily could have said "the couch wouldn't fit" . But they kept working at it, got the neighbor acroos the hall to open his door for extra room and got it in . Rob was the absolute best mover I've worked with in NYC. When getting quotes from movers, he was very quick and thorough with his estimate. He was also very accurate with how long it would take. On moving day he was really fast and took a lot of care of my stuff. Him and his assistant assessed the boxes, came up with a strategy, and I was shocked that they fit it all in his sprinter van for a single trip. First met Rob when he helped us move a hutch in his van FOR FREE just because he was a nice guy and it was only a couple blocks. Later we hired him to move some real stuff and had the same great experience reported by other people here. Have been burned by other NYC movers, hidden surprise fees that don't become apparent until all your stuff is locked up in their truck. We're going to use Band With a Van again next time we move. Don't go with anyone else! I found a dresser on Craigslist and contacted Rob about helping me pick it up. It was a lot heavier than I thought so thank God that Rob was there to help me bring it up 2 flights of stairs! Although Terrence did not execute the move, he gave the job to another company and my experience with them was quite unpleasant. You can read about it at "Everydaymovers." The reviews there suggest that they might not be the best people to refer but I had no idea who was coming, just a "couple guys" who could do the job since he was not able to fit it into his schedule. I was in the middle of writing the reviews and Terrence did call to apologize and I really don't feel like getting an impassioned response here on Yelp, hence the 3 stars. It looks like from reading the reviews that you should insist on Terrence himself (or one of the other people mentioned as being great) or find other people yourself so that you and they can be directly accountable to each other. (The other company blamed me for things that had nothing to do with me.)

Have used Terrance and his men for my last 3 moves now (one of which was a fifth floor walk up!)…read moreand one at the beginning of Covid. They provided us with masks while they were moving the stuff and took the necessary precautions themselves so it felt very safe. Rather than just dump the furniture in our new space like some other people do, they asked where we wanted each piece of furniture and what position so we didn't have to move anything. Also very reasonable compared to other movers. Highly recommend!

Again they failed to find a truck in all of New York City to fulfill their end of the contract to move us (they claim they'll only work with one rental company...why? Who knows. Point is, they won't lift another finger to help you move. If you believe the truck story to begin with). If we weren't lucky enough to have overlapping leases, we'd be totally screwed. I shudder at the thought of single-day moves in years past when I would be helpless to vacate my apartment because Olga's City Movers will not take the simple steps to solve problems of their own design. Never again. Stay away. Not worth the risk.

Would have been much more helpful if this is disclosed in the beginning. All buildings require COIs. Additionally, a much more timely response, either yes or now is very important to customers to avoid last minute scrambling to find a different moving company to finish the job. No amount of discounts or under market pricing is worth this poor service.

Though I'm sure that also had to do with the fact that all they did was put stuff into the truck, move them, and then take them up (both my buildings had elevators). The entire move took less than 2 hours, which is their minimum. + Virtual Customer Service leading up to the move was FANTASTIC. They responded to my emails very quickly as well as an urgent call I made the day before to request a very last-minute COI, which they sent around midnight later that night. They also proactively realized that my original move date was going to be on the same day as a World Cup match and offered a different day if I chose to, so that I wouldn't drive up the hourly rate while the truck sat in potential traffic. They also did a GREAT job of breaking down the cost so that I knew exactly what I was paying for and I always appreciate that. The Bad I definitely now understand why it was cheaper -- there was no packing help from them or disassembly whereas the quote from Piece of Cake included disassembly and reassembly + packing and boxes. When they moved my bed, they didn't wrap it in blankets in the room (they could've in the truck) which means that during the transpiration out of my old room and into my old room it was just exposed to open air-- this made me nervous because my bed wooden. + My desk didn't fit through the smaller door of the apartment I moved into, and I expected that they would disassemble and reassemble to take it into my room, but I was told that due to liability issues they are only able to do that for beds. My bed didn't even need that so they just moved that as a whole piece (a slab was unscrewed but I didn't really care about that). Anyways, I was thus stuck with a large and heavy desk in the middle of the living room that I had to quickly find a way to disassemble before my new roommates got home. Due to the cheaper price I'm not too mad about this, HOWEVER my dissatisfaction comes from the fact that the "liability issue" was NOT communicated to me beforehand. I actually emailed the company with the size of my desk and told them it may require disassembly, and to which they gave me a $45 quote for desk disassembly (which shows that they COULD HAVE disassembled it...) and then in a later email wrote "we most likely will not have to take apart the desk to safely transport it. As such I won't add the proposed disassembly fee to your quote." I would've HAPPILY paid the extra to not have had to deal with it myself-- it would've been a quick and easy 20-min task for 2 strong movers but with just me it wasted a lot of my time and energy. Ended up getting my boyfriend to help, but because we didn't expect this, we also had to hunt for the toolbox amongst my many bags and boxes. This is the reason I'm rounding down to 3 stars They also came an hour early which meant I had to rush home from previous plans I made with the original time in mind :') at least they were done very early lol As someone who appreciates cheaper pricing I definitely would still use them again to move my bed BUT with the heavy precaution that everything else needs to be disassembled on my own and that all my boxes need to be packed and ready to go (thank goodness I thought of doing that). If you want to pay extra for a truly no-hassle hands-off move, would definitely consider other companies!

For reference, Intense Movers moved me from a 1 bedroom 4th floor walk-up to a 2 bedroom over 100 blocks away. They showed up promptly at 9am and were done by 1pm. None of my property was damaged and they left no mess behind. Also, it's great to support small and local businesses whenever possible. Highly recommend.

I did think it was a bit strange that everything was done via email and there's really no other way of contacting them. That said, they were extremely responsive to email, which was fine. The movers themselves were personable and worked efficiently throughout the process, which I appreciated. Beyond that - there were issues. Firstly, the team arrived about 20 minutes late. I did appreciate the heads-up text, but on one of the most stressful days of your life, it's worth noting - especially as it was early in the morning. More importantly, I was under the impression that loading the truck was part of the service I hired Intense Movers to provide. Nope. Instead, that responsibility was completely handed off to my partner, who stayed with the truck while the movers brought items down for him to load. There was no discussion about this. In fact, it was initially suggested that I use only 2 movers but I requested another to be more efficient. I didn't realize that they assumed my partner was an unpaid 4th. Items with "this side up" stickers were completely disregarded. They brought everything down however they wanted to and handed them off to my partner however was most convenient for them. Also, a couple of guys who were not part of the moving team entered my apartment unannounced, to say hello to the movers. They did not clearly identify themselves, though it seemed like they may have been affiliated with the company. Regardless, having strangers invite themselves into my apartment during the move was pretty inappropriate. Lastly, when it came time for payment, you can only pay by cash or Zelle - which, to me, is sketchy AF. I had planned to send it via Zelle to their company account as instructed. However, the lead mover was insistent that I send the payment directly to him instead, saying he needed to pay his workers immediately. He was so insistent about it that it made me feel really uneasy. In the end, if I could do it all over - I definitely would have chosen someone else who was more professional.
