Today, my parents and I arrived at 4:30 PM, with intentions to enjoy their lunch specials, which end at 5 PM. While my parents ordered the specials, I chose an omelette that should have included cheese, ham, eggs, and pico de gallo, despite a $1 upcharge for breakfast items served all day. When the food arrived, my omelette lacked cheese, and although the new waitress tried to rectify the situation, her supervisor wrongly insisted that the omelette included cheese, which turned out to be undercooked egg whites. The "supervisor"refused to remake the $6 omelette and denied my request to switch to a lunch special, despite it still being before 5 PM when the issue arose; ultimately, the owner never showed up to address the situation despite our request, highlighting a broader lack of respect and customer service skills among the staff, which highlights his lack of any respect for his customers. When I was a kid, I saw a plate of lengua at home and was immediately turned off by the smell and the way it looked. It looked, well, like a tongue. Many years later, I developed a deep love and appreciation for menudo and all things tripe, so I decided, "Hey, I should give lengua another chance!" and maybe try it while it's hiding in a mild-mannered taco. The question was, "Where can I find a place for a good re-introduction to something that once scarred me?" I browsed Door Dash for open taco places, and found Bandera Jalisco. I placed an order for 1 lengua taco, 1 barbacoa taco, and some caldo de res. Delivery was fast! The moment of truth came. I saw the pats of lengua in my taco and sprinkled some fresh cilantro on top. I took a bite. Chewy, but not rubbery. Buttery AF. It was very good! Next, I tried the red salsa. It was alright, but I didn't care for the red salsa. Then I tried the green salsa with it. Oh my stars. That was an experience. I put more green salsa in the rest of my taco and ate it up, and licked my fingers. I like cow tongue. Who'da thunk? The barbacoa taco was appropriately greasy but lacking on the salt. Luckily that's a quick fix. I've yet to try the caldo as I'm saving it for dinner tonight, but I've heard excellent things about it and I can't wait to enjoy it with some leftover rice. I drove by this spot Sunday morning and decided to give it a try. Partly due to how long the line was in the driveway and how packed the parking lot was which in my opinion is an indicator of how good the food or the service is. I ordered my food to go which included potato and egg tacos and bean and cheese tacos which is pretty standard for San Antonio. There's tortillas were homemade which is always a plus. I also ordered a corn tortilla taco which was undercooked to the point where we had to put it back on the "comal". Once we "cooked the tortilla it was delicious. They are not stingy with their napkins, utensils, and condiments including their salsa's which were very good. Came here to try the mini tacos. I must say I was impressed. Pretty good! Friendly service. The order cost $6.99 for 4 mini tacos and charro or retried beans. Very yummy. You know how Mexican families find that one restaurant and go there for the rest of their lives? yeah ok this is the place. While my family loves this place, I fail to see its appeal. The environment and waitstaff is friendly. Some mornings they will have a mariachi band which is always super cool. However, I think the food is subpar and the coffee is sometimes cold. I have to ask them to melt the cheese in my bean and cheese which is something I don't feel I need to do. I also have to ask for them to put more egg in the migas so that I'm not just eating tortilla chips with cheese. I think this place could use some improvements but I will be there next weekend. read more
