Surprised the wife with a trip to Pan Fila for her favorite hot chocolate and concha. We started with the Pan Fila Conchota combo that is a combination of the two that is 1/2 gallon of hot chocolate made using a base of Abuelitas with additional cinnamon, and cocoa along with something special. It was delicious! The concha was soft, buttery and flaky, with just the right sweetness. We took home the majority of it and it stayed nice and soft instead of turning hard like so many others. We decided to try several appetizers to go along with our concha to get a wider taste of their food than we would by just ordering a couple entrees. Let me tell you, this was a great idea! We ordered the Tosti-Ceviche Verde, Panela Asado, Mexican Street Corn, and their Spicy Bean Dip. The Ceviche Verde was excellent, the freshness of the fish and shrimp was wonderful with the chipotle mayo and avocado. We chose to have it on the salsa Verde Tostitos and it was all great combination. The Panelo Asado was a completely new dish for us and was extremely good with a savory flavor from the salsa Tlaquepaque that mixed well with the Panela cheese. Their tortillas though not made in house, are made for them and taste like mom made them. The Mexican Street Corn was great and had the perfect bit of char taste from the corn. It was creamy and flavorful, we did think it could use just a tad more lime juice though. The Spicy Bean Dip was very good. You can't go wrong with Oaxaca, Chorizo, and pieces of pork mixed with some mildly spicy beans. Our server was fantastic. She had great recommendations for us, and was quick with checking on our drinks and generally helping us throughout our dinner. The food was prepared quickly, was hot, tasteful and refreshing. This rather unassuming and unique cantina, was certainly a diamond in the rough. They split the place with an Italian restaurant. Not sure if the Italian side and the cantina side share the same kitchen, but we will remember to come back and try that side as well. If the Italian menu and preparation is as unique as the cantina's, it will be a worthy adventure. For our appetizer we got the cheese dish pictured. I can not recall the name, but the cheese is a cool light cheese served in a warm tomato-based sauce, topped with slices of fresh avocados and chicharones and was served with flour and corn tortillas. Very delicious! As mentioned in the opening...the menu, preparation, and presentation at Panfila is unique. For our entrees my wife got the chile Relleno and I got the Milanese con Mole. The chile Relleno was served in a bowl with just an absolutely fabulous sauce and stuffed and covered with nicely melted cheese. The Milanese con Mole was absolutely decadent! The tender pork was lightly fried and covered in the most delicious mole that I have ever eaten. The chocolate was a little more prominent in the flavor profile than I am used to; and I wouldn't think that I would like that, but it was perfect! I enjoyed every bite and used the extra tortillas from our appetizer to finish off the mole. Highly recommend anything on the menu that incorporates that mole!! Fantastic place! read more

We ordered a bean dip that had cheese, chorizo, and pork rinds, served with tortilla chips. The dip was OK, I'm not sure what flavor I was looking for, but I wasn't crazy about it. But the chips were really good, they were hot and fresh and well seasoned. My husband ordered the fideo and wasn't too crazy about it, just lacked some flavor. We also ordered the green chicken enchiladas, which came with a side of rice and beans and that was definitely impressive! The enchiladas had a very good flavor and the sauce tasted freshly made. Not only did they look beautiful, but they tasted great! The service was OK, once the food was delivered we weren't checked on for quite some time and had to wave someone down for a drink refills. This is a jewel of San Antonio with food that will instantly put you in a good mood! We had yummy.sandwiches with refried beans poured on top and stuffed with spicy, mouth watering meat! We headed to Panfila for the XL concha. I called ahead to see if I had to pre order it and I was told it was stall the time. I also asked if I could make a reservation. They told me that they don't take reservations on the weekend. And that by 11am there would be about an hour wait. We showed up at 10:15am on a Saturday. They would seat incomplete parties. But there wasn't a wait. Order the concha and three plates. The food was good. The concha was dry and could use more flavor. But it was super big and mostly a novelty. Went on Saturday for Valentines breakfast with my family ( 4 of us). Let me start by saying I know this means longer wait times than usual, but we got there before the rush started. Once we got sat, it took our server almost 10 minutes to greet us, he had 5 other tables he was helping. I counted, because he passed our table 3 times, and not once did he say, I'll be with you shortly. Nothing. Once we were greeted, we took advantage and not only did we order drinks but our food also, since we overheard the couple in the table behind us saying they had been waiting 30 minutes for their food and they had just ordered pancakes and eggs. Anywho, after putting in our order, I went to the restroom. Let me say, for a restaurant that is going to charge $15 plus for most of their plates, their restrooms were in horrible shape. There were two stalls, the small stall was the only one that was able to lock properly and had a little bit of toilet paper left. There were also napkins put in top of the toilet. The second stall, which was for the disabled, had no toilet paper. The toilet paper holder was broken, napkins were put on top of the toilet and the door did not lock. The soap dispenser was broken so there was a small Soft-soap you could use but most of it was filled with water. Once I got back to my table, waited for a bit for our drinks. I got the cafe de olla, which tasted burnt, the Oj my bf got was good, strawberry lemonade was also good and the champurrado was also good. As we waited for our food, 20 minutes in, I waived our served over to let him know if the pancakes for my youngest were ready before the rest of the food he could bring them out. He said our food was almost out, and he left. Waited another bit and food was brought out by another person. We didn't see our server again until it was time to pay. Food was warm by the time it came out, but good. Would I go back, NO! Service was definitely lacking, restrooms needed to be tended to. Knowing they would be busy that weekend why wouldn't they get the RR cleaned up. That's embarrassing in my opinion. Overall, this place is not on my list to return. 1.5 out of 5. read more

I asked for green chilaquiles and with arrachera -$10 extra for the arrachera. They brought our food at 1:00pm. The arrachera is $10 extra and they brought 5 pieces on top of my chilaquiles. I start eating it and the meat tasted so off, I tried it twice because I thought it was me, but I couldn't eat more than that. The sauce and the chilaquiles were good and crispy. I did ask for hot salsa and they brought me 4 different ones and they were good! The spicy one was spicy, so I enjoyed adding it to the chilaquiles. All of our 3 dishes beans were cold, sadly, because they were good, but cold. I have to mention that when they brought the food to us, the guy gave it to us in our hands, and some of the plates were hot, he could at least have warned us. I went to the bathroom when we got there, and there are two stalls and none of them had any toilet paper. This restaurant is a bit of a drive from downtown SA, but I wanted to check it out because of the IG hype. The restaurant had a nice vibe for the sunday brunch crowd. Our waiter was helping out way too many tables that he could handle so he would get to us every blue moon. This caused slow service and low attentiveness. The food came out warm, at best. We already had been waiting soooo long, i was not about to complain and hv the food taken back and wait longer. Most of the food came out warm at best, but most was getting cold. I dont understand how we waited sooo and the food not hot like it was sitting there. Maybe the waiter was too busy with too many tables. I still tipped him good because it wasnt his fault, he was trying. But you as a business need to realize you're over working the guy and that causes bad service, which leads to bad reviews which leads to people slowly not going back. I saw people ordering the big concha. I looked at the price and for $35, i think its OP. I saw a table of two order than concha and only take pics and ate one slice each. Sweet, but not overpowering - just the right amount of piloncillo so it paired very well with the concha. We also ordered breakfast and the chilaquiles did not disappoint. It was easy to get on the wait list. They tried their best to get us seated as fast as we could. The restaurant us decorated very simple but added touches make you remember it's a Mexican restaurant. The only reason they didn't get 5 stars was that the wait for the food was VERY long.... but worth the wait. I ordered a simple breakfast once it came out you know it was made from scratch. I accidentally gave this place a second chance. We stopped by on Monday around 12:30pm hoping to have lunch at their Italian restaurant. After waiting for 40mins we were told they're only seating for Panfila and not Tutto Pepe Osteria.
