I absolutely love this place! The food, drinks, ambiance , and service is all good. I will continue to come here and bring my friends that are visiting. I have had their breakfast, mole, chilaquiles, pastries, drinks, and pretty much everything. Their prices are food and they have their own parking with us really good in downtown San Antonio!
Wife and I stopped in for lunch. The atmosphere made you feel like going home. The service was excellent from beginning to end. We both got the lunch special and it was by far one of our best meals in San Antonio. My only regret was that I had tried it earlier, would have probably went back several times!
Eating at Mi Tierra is a family tradition for us. So it probably gets a 1/2 star just from the nostalgia and emotional value it has with many good times with family. Lively decor up all year. Very large place with multiple seating options and spaces for reservations. Breakfast (my favorite) is served all day! They make their tortillas in house and you can choose flour, corn, or mix. They have bakery counter available for purchase, This trip I got a decaf coffee ($3.95) & Mi Tierra Especial ($11.95) You get Two Eggs [any style], Breakfast Potatoes. Refried Beans, Tortillas and your choice of Carne Guisada or Puerco en Chile Cascabel. I got the carne Guisada and it was very good. Good chips & salsa Easy parking in garage. Friendly service. Walk the public market before/after your meal. Music & special events at the market F-Sun.
People say when in San Antonio, do like the San Antonian's. Nobody really says that. I mean, I just did, but I also just made it up. With that being said, let's make up a review. Except I'm not actually making the review up, I've been to the place. Both San Antonio and the restaurant moments away from being reviewed. I'm always down for solid Mexican food. It's always pretty damn good. I mean, at the pure base of things, it's basically the same few ingredients, just different vessels to get it to your mouth. I'm never bad about that. I love transportation. Mi Tierra was a pretty great looking place. Plenty of space, a nice outside waiting area, plus a bakery. I have never been to a place with a bakery that I didn't like. It seemed like a very authentic place, and that's coming from a resident of Michigan. A resident that eats Taco Bell. A resident who eats Taco Bell and think's THAT'S authentic Mexican. The first thing I noticed was that this place did not seem to serve burritos. Not a marker really for me, but it was something I've never came across before. I also thought that you were stuck ordering enchiladas or tacos in a meal type of setting. Upon further questioning, you can order a la cart. That was a relief. I ended up ordering the enchiladas Verdes because sometimes I ignore my color palate and go for green. And because I can't just stop eating one form of meat, cheese, and sauce, I ordered a taco. Actually, I just ordered a taco because I wanted a dryer enchilada. Or did I order the enchiladas because I wanted a wetter taco...I don't know anymore. Anywho, I ground beef, American style taco. Now, I've always been a big fan of chips and salsa. Some salsa hits, some miss. Some salsa is pureed and is basically red water. Some salsa is just a full tomato. I like my salsa like I like my orange juice. With extra calcium. Wait. Mild pulp. That's it. This salsa pretty much hit those notes. Had good flavor and a little spice left to linger. The main course came out and everything looked delicious. Green enchiladas looked exactly like I expected. However, it took me a moment to realize I was not looking at a burrito...but instead, my taco. It was served a peculiar way. wrapped, seam down, with a little bit of the meat on top, pico and lettuce on the outside, next to it. It was a burrito peacocking as a taco. I've never seem this display before, and I have been to many Taco Bell and non-Taco Bell restaurants. The taste was pretty good, though. All the taco flavor in a burrito jacket. This Mexican restaurant was recommended to us so we made the vigorous walk from our hotel to have a Sunday evening dinner. The interior has a wild, festive, colorful decor. They are a combination bakery and restaurant - look for the "register here" sign to get on the list to eat at the restaurant; the other line is for purchasing from the bakery. After a very short wait we were seated. Our waitress was all smiles and provided amiable service. The chips and salsa were above average, and so was the house margarita I ordered as I looked over the menu. I ordered the Enchiladas Verdes (per the menu: Chicken Enchiladas topped with Green Tomatillo Sauce, Monterrey Jack Cheese and Sour Cream. Served with Guacamole, Spanish Rice and Refried Beans). When they say "hot plate" here, they really mean it. I enjoyed the enchiladas although I didn't think they were any better than what I've had many times elsewhere. The same could be said of the rice and beans. The horchata, however, was fantastic. Made in-house, it was among the best I've ever had. This is the epitome of what a horchata should be and definitely my favorite part of my meal. We passed on the mariachi who were roaming the floor of this huge restaurant, requesting $10 per song. But we had a good meal and enjoyed the Mexican marketplace within the plaza the restaurant is located in.
First n foremost I'd like to say that I come once a yr to San Antonio n I eat here as well, n on they way out they also have a huge bakery in the front w loads of wonderful sweet bread.. but I don't like those waitress n hostess . Wear these ugly Uniforms so ugly it unbelievable. If anything black skirt/ pants w the whits blouses or Mexican type tops . It sim just so old looking ! Needs upgrade.. Food is delicious non the lees the decor is so colorful n it looks so appealing beautiful.
Food was very flavorful and filling. Customer service was on point for the amount of customers coming through this establishment throughout the week. Ambiance was very well lit, decorated and friendly. Side note, can be busy during peak lunch and dinner times and weekends. Other than that highly recommended to family and friends.
The food is way overpriced for the quality. The ambiance is very busy and noisy. Where different mariachis are asking every few minutes if you would like a song. The waitress was older and slower and seemed irritated by different requests. Everything you ask for is an extra fee. For example: spicier salsa, fee. For a party of 11, 3 small bowls of chips isn't enough while you wait. Fee charged per refill of chips. Ordered a Miller light on tap and it tasted old and bitter. Restroom had small roaches. Food was room temperature to cold. Definitely not worth the price. Will not return.
After some serious shopping in Market Square, we were starving and clearly Mexican food was the main choice. Our Lyft driver recommended Mi Tierra as one of the best restaurants in the area. I ordered the Steak Tampiqueña combo and I am truly glad I did. The meat was very tender and flavorful, and the chicken enchilada that came with. It was absolutely delicious! The rice and beans were a nice addition, but I have to say the real star of the show was the homemade tortillas! Our server told us that there are two ladies in the back that make homemade tortillas all day long, and they were very tasty. I do absolutely recommend that you try this place if you are in the area. They also have a live mariachi band with singers that perform only on request for tips.
I have been here several times. It's one of those staple tourist places that you have to visit when you are in town. Service is fast, place is decently clean for the foot traffic, the servers all look happy and eager to work. I ordered tortilla soup, I usually like it with a cup of rice and avocado like most places serve it. However, I definitely think this is a safe Mexican food restaurant when it comes to not overdoing it with spices and the extra stuff. My soup had a decent amount of chicken. I had a mimosa, loved that they used fresh orange juice. Flour tortillas were delicious! Before heading out you need to have the sweet bread!! So goooodd!
This bakery speaks tradition! Its been there for a long time and is open late. Its cute and oozes Mexican vibes with its decor. As soon as you enter, you are greeted with a boatload of goodies. They have a casual setup in the front where you can purchase their baked goods and coffee. They also have a restaurant offering tex mex meals and drinks. The baked goods array is huge and a bit overwhelming for a novice like me. Nothing was named so it was a guess game. We asked another person in line and she told us to have the concha which is essentially sweet bread. Got that and some Mexican hot chocolate. Both were basic yet yumm. I wish I had tried some of their other goodies too!
Another San Antonio staple. There is so much to look at here and enjoy. The decorations are lively, festive, & bright. The vibe is friendly and welcoming. They have everything you could possibly want an then some!! We were there for business and some pleasure too. We started with the Botana Platter and enjoyed it so much that we decided to take several back to our AirBNB to eat on during our stay. Everything heated back up quite nicely too. You have to stop by the bakery before leaving. Grab some extra goodies too and you'll thank yourself when you're craving them after a long day or we always take goodies home too just eat them quickly because they don't last long.

I've eaten through San Antonio's River Walk for years. Across all the Tex-Mex restaurants serving stuffed peppers, enchiladas, rice, beans, horchata, and desserts, Mi Tierra remains the benchmark - the one I still use to calibrate what "right" tastes like. This isn't nostalgia. This is evaluation. * Poblano Dinner The roasted poblano has weight - thicker walls, proper blistering, and a spicy beef filling with that unmistakable Texas depth: heavy spices, yet clean enough that the beef fat and aroma still stand out instead of being buried. Yes, stuffed poblanos appear all over the River Walk. Mi Tierra's version is still the highest standard I've had: cleaner spice profile, deeper beef aroma, better structural integrity. * Cheese Enchilada Pure comfort. Molten, salty, intentionally indulgent - no subtlety required, none given. * Rice & Beans The refried beans are exceptionally rich - likely finished with real fat (pork or beef). Thick, smooth, aromatic. The rice is straightforward Tex-Mex: cohesive, warm, and seasoned just enough to support the plate. * Horchata One of the best versions you'll find in Texas or California. Fine texture, real rice character, balanced sweetness, cinnamon used with restraint. Clean finish - not the chalky, overly spiced style you get at many places. * Hot Chocolate A specialty worth mentioning. Complex, layered, far deeper than "sweet cocoa." There's a spice profile and richness that almost reads like a hybrid of Mexican chocolate and old-world European technique. Dense, aromatic, slightly mysterious -- the kind of drink you order, sip twice, and realize: there's real craft behind this. For a place this busy, service is fast, consistent, and controlled. Plates arrive hot; seasoning is steady; nothing feels rushed or sloppy - a sign of a disciplined kitchen. Mi Tierra isn't just famous - it's technically strong. One of the best places we ate in San Antonio! Such a phenomenal Mexican restaurant for the ambiance, price, quality of food, and the kind staff! We loved our margaritas, I especially think their frozen marg is incredible, and the entrees were super tasty! Nice chips too. If you want to enjoy your true taste of San Antonio history and culture, with incredible Mexican cuisine with a vibe like an all consuming fiesta with amazing service, then Mi Tierra is an outstanding choice! Great for families, groups, couples, solo travelers..everyone! The food was amazing. Service was outstanding, and the fiesta fun decor & mariachi trio enhanced the dining experience. So much to experience here! Beautiful bar area, expansive Panaderia (bakery) and huge restaurant. This was just a random pick for me, traveling alone was walking the market square and just didn't love the other restaurant menu. Stumbled upon this place, which is steps outside the market square, and as soon as I entered all my senses were peaked. Sights, sounds and smells. Greeted so warmly & enthusiastically by the host. I asked to look at a menu and he told me to please come in and have a seat to experience the best Mexican in San Antonio. The place was completely packed on a Monday afternoon in August. That's a good sign. No tables available, so i sat at the counter. Kinda like a diner space within the restaurant. The entire space is a feast for the senses. Decor is over the top fiesta, and it works. All the servers are in authentic Mexican long dresses, everyone smiling. Menu was so extensive I didn't know what to pick. So the lunch special seems like a great choice. The price point is off the hook cheap..you get side salad, soup, lunch item, dessert and lemonade. They have a different special for this each day of the week. I don't remember what the Monday special was called but i will continue to dream about my meal and the best brownie dessert i have ever had! And my frozen margarita had a nice tequila kick. Loved visiting here for giant margaritas! My friend recommended we visit this iconic Market Square restaurant, and now I see why. It is DECKED out with decorations and just feels so festive and fun. Our server was very attentive even though we just got chips, salsa, queso, and 2 margs. She kept asking if we wanted to order more food though even though we mentioned we just came for a drink at 4 pm. The mariachi music is so fun. We loved listening and watching the other tables. We chose not to have them play us a song since you have to pay, but it added to the atmosphere. The restaurant is HUGE and the bakery is amazing to browse. Our drinks were good and snacks hit the spot. We will go back here. Fun place! Update to my draft- we visited with my parents while they were in town and had a really fun lunch. The service was not as good this time, but the food was great and reasonably priced. I got the enchiladas verde with only cheese inside since they did not have many vegetable options. The rice, beans, guac, etc. was all so good! We loved the huge margaritas again. My fiance got the steak fajitas and really enjoyed them and my parents loved the mole enchiladas and taco platter. We picked up a variety of pastries on the way out including 2 conchas, a guava empanada (highlight for me), cinnamon roll, and cherry turnover. I think it was about $14 total for the treats. Fun restaurant with lots of colorful decor and mariachi! Our large group was seated almost right away even though we were told 20-30 mins wait. We shared some guac nachos, and I had the menudo and carne asada. Both were pretty good. The horchata was a bit watered down. Service was good and the atmosphere is fun. Recommended before/after the market right across for souvenirs. Parking lot across was $10 flat fee. read more

Historic Mexican cafe & bakery in the heart of Market Square. The food is authentic Mexican food. The hostess was friendly & set us immediatly. Dog friendly on the enclosed patio for well behaved, non barking dogs. The wait staff, dressed in their traditional Mexican attire were very attentive. Food was served hot & the flavor was excellent. Mariachi players come to your table to play music if you like & they appreciate the tip. The traditional Mexican pastries are so incredible from appearance to taste! I highly recommend the traditional Mexican cultural Experience. There is a reason they have long wait lines BUT don't be discouraged! They have lots of tables, lots of places to wait & it's worth the experience! read more

super busy waited an hour before we got seated - but there is a lot to window shop spring the surrounding area so time passed by quick enchiladas was very yummy - haven't eaten mexican food in a while so this hit the spot! read more
My wife and I stopped at Mi Tierra two of our three nights in San Antonio. The bakery is absolutely fantastic! The first night we had what was pictured a crème puff and iced cone/lady lock type goodie. The second night we had a Brookie and a piece of chocolate cake. All of the sweets were outstanding, service was outstanding and the prices were extremely reasonable. If you are anywhere near Market Square, you definitely want to stop at Mi Tierra. Mi Tierra has been a staple in the Historic Market Square for over 80 years. My friend and I were looking for a place to have breakfast and stumbled across this place. I'm glad we did! The restaurant is huge and seats over 500 people. The atmosphere is lively & fun and the festive décor calls to mind Casa Bonita (If you're a South Park fan you get the reference). At the entrance is a large bakery case filled with pan dulce and other sweet treats. Our waiter was friendly & attentive and brought out chips and salsa to start. The chips were warm, and the salsa had a good flavor. My friend ordered menudo, and I got the Guacamole Salad. The margaritas are prepared with house made sour mix. I ordered the Skinny Margarita. It was tasty. My salad was also very good and contained a generous amount of freshly made guacamole. Yummmmmm. The flour tortillas are also made on site and are legit. Better than the ones mi amiga's abuela used to make when I was a kid. My friend said the menudo was the best he's had. We enjoyed our brunch, and the Mariachi band. Even though the place was packed our food & drink arrived in a timely manner and the service was great. I'd definitely come back. read more

This visit to Mi Tierra was disappointing. I have always loved going here -- on past visits, the food has been good and who doesn't like feeling like they are eating dinner sitting in the middle of a Christmas tree with all the sparkling lights hanging from the ceiling? As usual, there was a wait for a table and so we decided to have a drink in the bar. We usually order Yuengling Flight, but they didn't have that, so we ordered two Tecate Lights. Of course, as soon as we got them our table was ready, so we had to pay the tab quickly before they gave our table to someone else. We were shocked that two 12 oz. canned beers were $14!!! Especially when Krogers is selling a 24 pack of the same 12 oz. cans for $24! This time around, it just felt like they were calling it in. I don't know if it was because it was New Year's Day, but we were handed a very limited menu that in no way reflected the menu on their website. I ended up choosing the beef fajita nachos, and I ended up telling my husband the nachos at the little Mexican restaurant down the road from our house are better than the ones I was given at Mi Tierra. It seemed like the kitchen threw a handful of chips on the plate, then threw a ladle of refried beans on the chips, followed by way too much cheese, some fajita meat (which was actually good) and then a smear of guacamole on some shredded lettuce in a tostada bowl. I ate about three of the chips, but they were so overloaded with beans and cheese it was impossible to pick them up, and I ended up eating the fajita meat and leaving the remaining chips behind. We will probably give them another try next time we are in town and it's not a holiday. Maybe that was the problem -- but if anything, a business should be even more on its game when people are on vacation and spending their hard earned money to have a nice meal and relax a little. read more

Such an awesome restaurant as well as bakery. We got the crunchy tacos with rice and beans, along with chips and salsa. We went in at lunch and it was busy but we were seated quickly. Our waitress was super nice and made sure we were ok during our meal. Our food came out super quick. We also visited the bakery as well. We definitely will be going back. read more

Authentic Mexican spot with a great selection of drinks and awesome decorations! I loved the ambience. It felt like a true piece of Mexico. They had diverse dishes as well. Upon entering one of the waitresses was not kind but Carolina took amazing care of us. I loved that they sing mañanitas on birthdays. The enchiladas are solid!!! read more

Mexican Coco is made with a Texan Touch, no candy will taste like the street candy you'll find in Mexico but Mi Tierra's candy is unique and tasty like no other place in town.

Does Mi Tierra have any vegan-friendly options?
There is a vegetarian menu which has 1 vegan option if I remember correctly. Check out the photo I posted, it has the options there.
Any advice on parking situation, do I have to pay?
You can park in front of the restaurant for free but it's usually packed. Or 5.00 parking by the bank.
Do you have spicy margaritas?
They have a chamoy margarita, my personal favorite.
I have heard valet is free besides tip. Can anyone confirm?
Yes it is free but it is not always available. They do take tips.
