Chris took 6 hours to test voltage levels, put caps on the wiring for 12 deck lights and a trip to Home Depot which was 10 mins away to replace the transformer for the lights. 6 hours! I should have cut him off at 2 hours but I let him "work," which included playing his radio loud the whole time. He seemed like a nice guy and his rates were good but when the hours start ticking off it adds up. The problem was never fixed and I had to hire another company to fix it (which two people did in two hours). The problem with my deck lights were that half of them were dim and half were bright. He couldn't seem to figure out what was causing the problem but the company I hired after him knew right away. He also left bits of wire, wire casing, and electrical tape all over the deck and some fell below the deck which I had to clean up. Wish it would have been a different experience. read more

Finding a great electrician who you can trust is incredibly difficult. We've had bad experiences with contractors who were unreliable or who didn't take pride in their work (usually from bigger companies). Chris from Bane Electric came highly recommended by our realtor. At first we were worried that he wouldn't travel from Ashburn to Arlington but he traveled during off peak times to us without charging extra. We had extensive electrical work done in our house (and not the fun kind either). He was sensitive about the price points and recommended what we could easily do ourselves. We had a list of items that needed to be fixed as noted by the home inspection report, and he did a superb job. Immediately he put us to ease and we felt comfortable leaving him in our home alone on the first day. His work was competitively priced. We were so happy that first day, that we immediately hired him again to put up recessed lights in our living room and a ceiling fan in our bedroom for the following week. We are absolutely stunned by the recessed lighting! By all means, get the upgraded recessed lighting! It is incredible and made our modest living room look like a show-home living room. Pros: -He offered us bundle pricing which meant we didn't have to pay by the hour -He works all over the DC metro area -He was reliable (always prompt when returning calls, showing up, or sending quotes) -Very professional and trustworthy -We felt good about supporting a small business owner -He does drywall patching for a nominal fee (I was informed by another contractor that most electricians don't do this!) Last month during bad winter weather, I had no power to my house. I contacted Bane Electric from my cell. They were able to come out the same day, trouble shoot the problem, which was at the fuse box, and had the issue fixed within three hours. Bane Electric is very trust worthy with their work. It seemed clear to me that the electrician didn't want to drive to my house to star with. I should have listened to my instincts. Their website says "no job is to small". The owner of the company told me directly that my job "wasn't worth his time". I need 3 light fixtures replaced. Unfortunately, I had purchased the wrong size for the two in the master bath. I told him there was no rush, just whenever would be fine and suggested he just do the other one today. He said, "Ma'am, I can't do that. It's not worth my time". I used Bane Electric to take my old (1960's) electrical panels and install new transfer panels/switch. I had two panels and he converted them into one transfer panel. He did it on time and on budget. I used Bane Electric again to install outdoor lighting for my driveway and backyard, which looks amazing. I have had other contractors do work for me in the past that seemed to take forever, give me the run around, etc. Chris was incredibly knowledgeable, professional, and and did excellent work. Chris talked me through his thought process as he solved the puzzle of our tripped breaker switch. Ended up finding that a bare copper wire was touching the hot wire in a wall outlet. I trust him. I saw Bane Electrical Services ad in our local Ashburn Farm Classified ads and called for an estimate to install 5 new lighting fixtures including a 2 story average-size foyer chandelier. I have never been so rudely spoken to by a contractor. Their ad specifically stated that they specialized in high chandelier installs so I assumed that he would understand my request but instead he angrily went into detail about how difficult this would be and that the installation of this chandelier would cost at least $400 and likely much more. I replied that I felt this was a little high because the foyer chandelier was not that large or heavy. To which he replied that he was insulted by my comment. Then he wanted me to email him a picture of the chandelier including the weight. I mentioned that it had some crystals on it and he went off again on another tangent telling me that crystals are very heavy and he was AGAIN insulted by my comments. At this point he hung up on me! I almost never give bad reviews but I believe that this incident was totally uncalled for and I certainly wouldn't want this person in my home. read more
