This was one of the worst customer-service experiences I've ever had at a veterinary clinic. My dog needs an LDDS test because of high liver enzymes. This is not optional or cosmetic--it's a serious diagnostic test. Yet the Banfield location in Chatsworth (91311) acted like scheduling it was a burden. They pushed back, resisted, and initially refused to book the appointment. It took a manager from another Banfield hospital calling them just to get an appointment made for today. That alone tells you how poorly this location is managed. When I arrived, I was 20 minutes late. I understand punctuality matters, but what happened next was unacceptable: they immediately used that as an excuse to refuse to perform the test, with zero effort to help or problem-solve. An LDDS test involves timed blood draws every 4 hours, so a professional clinic would explain options clearly, offer a modified plan if possible, or at minimum reschedule in a reasonable way. Instead, they acted like they were looking for a reason to turn us away. The practice manager, Katie, was hostile, dismissive, and confrontational. Her behavior was not just "busy" or "having a bad day"--it was outright disrespectful. I asked for the next available date or any alternative appointment, and she refused to schedule anything. No solutions. No accountability. No concern for my dog's health. Just attitude. Bottom line: If your pet needs real medical attention and you expect basic professionalism, avoid this Banfield in Chatsworth. They wasted my time, added stress during a health issue, and showed zero empathy or willingness to help. The one negative is the wait sometimes but the staff and service have always been great. We brought our dog, in as a walk-in during an emergency, and the care we received was truly exceptional. From the moment we walked in, Kelly greeted us with such warmth and kindness. She not only helped check our dog in quickly, but also took the time to reassure and calm us during a very stressful moment. Her compassion meant the world to us. About 30 minutes later, Dr. Alexander called to explain everything in detail and patiently answered all our questions. The level of communication and professionalism was outstanding. The clinic itself was very clean, punctual, and -- most importantly -- filled with staff who genuinely care. We've been to other branches before, but this one stands out as our favorite now. I was skeptical about Banfield overall given reviews from various locations but a neighbor said how much she liked this location and had no problems so I decided to check it out. The vet techs and Dr. Jessica are top notch and have great bedside manner. I found that she was understanding, passed no judgement, and that her recommendations weren't based on making money but for the wellbeing of my pet. Staff also replies to emails right away. The place is also very clean. Negatives... Making an appointment online...I had no idea (neighbor never said anything, website says anything when you make the appointment, and never knew this was a thing) that the appointments are typically drop off appointments where your pet may be there all day with you only speaking to a vet or vet tech via a short phone call. I get that for some people and pets this is fine but for some of us, it's uncomfortable and makes you feel like a number. I get it....short staff and overbooked but it's just not what you want. That said, the staff at the clinic will make some exceptions (they did for me) so if you do have some flexibility, they will work with you. Appointments are hard to get if you need one right away. Some Banfield locations won't have appointments for weeks out. This location is a little better with it being a few days out. Still not ideal. Fees...It's not a discount clinic but I wouldn't say it's that overpriced compared to smaller clinics (been to a few). I would have done one of the health plans, however since my dog is older financially it's not a good deal to me unless you want the dental cleaning with anesthesia (would get if a younger dog but an older pet? No). You still pay the balance....not prorated if your pet dies which I think is messed up. The rx fees were grossly overpriced compared to Chewy and Walmart, but in my experience all clinics have a huge convenience surcharge. read more

Or perhaps after your veterinarian finally calls us back (since another Saturday passed with no word) to go over test results after failing to explain our boy's body was no longer producing hormones to tell him he was hungry because everything was slowly shutting down, something no anti-nausea medicine, no powder mixed into food, and no prescription diet could slow down. I can't believe we brought him in for not eating and you guys gave us a powder that had to be mixed into food and no guidance on how to do that when he wasn't eating in the first place! Another vet there, after we begged the front desk for guidance said to put the powder in wet food, completely ignoring the fact our dog was refusing to eat anything! But hey, bet those weekly fluid injections under his skin we were told he'd need would have been a very quick and easy boost to productivity and billing to line your billionaire corporate overlord's pockets with yet more money, huh? Who cares if an animal suffers a slow and painful death as long as it makes a profit! I was brushed off when we picked our boy up and I asked about euthanasia, you know. We're not stupid, we know he was very old and we didn't want him to suffer. I'm not optimistic I'll get any better of a response from corporate than I have here, but at least it'll be on record and maybe that'll matter as more complaints begin to pile up. In the mean time, I'll be on a one woman crusade to convince every one I know or meet to switch away from Banfield. When I couldn't get my cat in to any emergency pet hospitals, Banfield happened to be open that one Sunday a month. They were able to save my 1 1/2 year old cat that had not eaten a thing in days and was running a very high fever. Her liver was on its way to shutting down. My other vet couldn't see us until later on in the week. My cat would not have made it that long. Turns out she had a uti. They gave her fluids and a blood test. She's alive today because of Banfield. read more

My 9 year old cat has been having diarrhea for a couple of months, I took her in yesterday at 9am and picked her up at 4:30pm... she was in her crate covered in diarrhea and urine! I had to give her a full bath when we got home which I never had to in my life because cats should not need a bath! The vet called me around 2pm and sad they were not able to even look at her or inspect her because she was being too aggressive and they are giving me medication to give her to sedate her for the next visit... so why am I paying for an office visit if they can't even check her out and left her in her crate all day. How on earth was my cat left in her crate all day with no litter box and they think it's ok to return her to me covered in diarrhea and urine?!?! This is really unbelievable. Banfield forces us to have our dog go into for a "check up" to re-fill her prescription and charges for additional tests only to verify that yes the dog does need to continue on the medication. They are not great at getting back to us with test results. We have to call them and wait on hold for several days before we get any information. I have been taking my dogs to Chatsworth location for years. I love Dr. Duel, she genuinely cares about your animals. However, the staff, needs improvement and a since if urgency. I called on Sunday day morning to make and appointment with ANY doctor. I was told I can not be seen until Wednesday. My 13 year old dog needed care. They could not accommodate her. I have to now take her to a vet who doesn't have her history. I feel I have been loyal to Banfield and they are not loyal to my dogs. read more

We had the worst experience with this location. We normally take our dog to the Northridge location, but happened to schedule our dog here as both are nearby. They are not entirely neglect thankfully. When we scheduled our dog for a dental cleaning and her labs came back abnormally they held off on the procedure, but when we were trying to determine what was causing her weight loss (we have struggled to keep her below 8 pounds her entire adult life and her weight had dropped under 6 pounds, meanwhile she was eating nearly a pound of dog food a day) they said that there was no medical reason for her weight loss when it was clearly untrue. Something was seriously wrong and all they did was repeat labs, no additional tests, no referral to a specialist nothing. I couldn't believe it. I pushed for them to test for Cushing disease as vet who caught the abnormal labs before the dental cleaning had suggested it as a possible diagnosis and it turned out to be positive. When we took our dog back to the Northridge location they referred us to a specialist at access who has been wonderful. They did more labs and found out that she also has Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI), which meant that she had not been absorbing her food. No wonder she was eating so much. Our poor dog was starving. The specialist prescribed additional medication, supplements, and prescription dog food so that our dog can regain weight. Had we listened to this vet who said there was no medical cause for her weight loss she would have gone undiagnosed and untreated. read more

Update: Banfield is asking us to pay over $300 to cancel his puppy plan. The $300+ charge supposedly covers the out of pocket cost for his care that day, since we'd no longer have the discount from the puppy plan. If we don't cancel within 4 days, we'll have to pay the full amount for the plan, despite the fact our puppy will never be going back to Banfield. The $300+ charge is also interesting because his "care that day" is referring to the office visit fee we had a free coupon for (that became void once we signed up for the Puppy plan) and two vaccines he was improperly given due to the front desk employee, William, entering all of his information wrong. We told William we did not want the Puppy Plan the first 5 times he asked us, as we were just there to get him his first exam and make sure he was healthy. At this point we hadn't even met the doctor, so why would I feel comfortable contractually signing him to a year of care with a doctor i've never even met? The only reason I agreed to the Puppy Plan was because after we met the doctor, William told us we should get our puppy the rabies and DAPP vaccine that visit, and then showed us how the plan would save us over $100 in that visit alone. I'm not sure if staff is incentivized to sell patients on the puppy plans, but the entire visit felt incredibly sales-like. I have unfortunately talked to multiple employees at both the local office and in corporate today, and they all maintain we owe the $300+. My cat was diagnosed with idiopathic cystitis by one of their doctors. It took over $1500 worth of tests and repeated vet visits for them to conclude this diagnosis. Idiopathic cystitis is a stress illness that causes swelling of the bladder and is particularly common amongst male cats. If left untreated, it can be fatal. During one of his flare ups I called them to get a prescription refill. They are currently refusing a refill for him unless we subject him to more stress (car ride, vet visit, etc) and bring him in for an unnecessary visit. They are leaving my cat to suffer. Don't go here. Without even looking at our dog, they tried to push for a pancreas blood test and sell us probiotics. That wasn't even the doctor. We had to argue and push for them to actually do blood work and urinalysis. After that, still no diagnosis, still trying to sell probiotics and a nonstandard blood test. Why Banfield is the WORST pet care program in the United States... Two months after my post, I noticed that I'm STILL being charged for both of my pets' insurance. I had cancelled my dog's plan when his plan expired back in March. I had spoken to Banfield's rep at the hospital and he informed me that the plan WILL NOT renew. I also went through their automated system on the phone to cancel. But of course they charge me again! HORRIBLE HORRIBLE! When I called to speak to the rep, she said "if you want to cancel, you have to call us to do so and the hospital cannot help you to cancel because they cannot!", So why was I told it's cancelled?! And she said, if you want things to be resolved, I have to contact their Client Advocacy team because the customer service is a "THIRD PARTY". PLEASE BE WARNED NOT TO JOIN THEIR WELLNESS PROGRAM!!!! READ THE FINE PRINT. It's easy to sign up, but you end up paying for most of the procedures (x-rays, any additional blood test, which they ask for every time), etc. As you can see from my experience, it's SUPER DIFFICULT if at all possible to cancel or get your money back because they work with a 3rd party and nothing talks to each other. I was very happy with my experience at this location. I came home to the base of my pit bull's tail was surrounded with puss and swollen. Luckily this location was open on the weekends and was able to make a Sunday afternoon appointment for me. While there, they were very attentive to me and my dog. They were very thorough and addressed all of my concerns. They put together a treatment plan that was very reasonable and easy to understand and seemed reasonably priced (for visit, exam and medication). My initial post is below, and it only gets worse. I cannot and have never experienced this sense of lack of professionalism. I've waited a few days with Marley still under the weather because Banfield did not want to try and put Marley in the other day, nor did they relay the message to the vet that Marley was having bad side effects to the medications. TODAY, the day of her appointment I get a call that they want to reschedule my pets appointment because someone called in sick. I CANNOT believe this! I keep asking myself how? My dog has been sick and I've been waiting on this appointment and they want to reschedule? I don't know if I can trust Banfield with my pet and it makes me question the integrity and the medications that she was provided. From the first visit they couldn't get my dog's name right, then on the second visit the vet was asking me questions that should have been reviewed on her chart from her first visit. If the vet did not review the chart, now I'm wondering if she was over medicated and that is why my dog is suddenly ill from other side effects that had nothing to do with our initial visits. Original Message I am extremely disappointed in the lack of empathy in service that I received recently. I had taken my dog to Access Hospital last month and my dog was treated for an ear hematoma and I scheduled a follow up with BANFIELD as a new patient. She was seen and prescribed medications, steroids, and a topical cream. I went in for a follow up and they prescribed the same treatment again but my dog has not been reacting well to the second dose of steroids. This is my first experience with Banfield and given that this was to be her new general vet, I felt that they'd be the first to reach out to. My appointment is on Sunday, but since my dog has been reacting badly to the medications I called to see if I can take her in today. The individual answering the phone sounded like they did not really care about my dog's health. She stated "sorry we are full you can take her to emergency." Given that this is her new vet, I felt that it would be beneficial to at least speak to the vet in the office to see if they could at least provide some insight on whether it's a reaction to the mediations or if they can make room for my pet. They have been treating her, and I just find it shocking that they did not want to even attempt to do more or even speak to the doctor.
