Especially with the nasty flu that's been going around. Thank you Caring Hands!

I want to share my experience with Caring Hands Veterinary Hospital (13741 Colorado Blvd, Thornton,…read moreCO) this past August 2025. Decades ago, I used them as my vet clinic, but they became too high in cost than other offices closer to me. It took me a long time to contemplate how I wanted to approach the unethical business practices happening at this business. On August 13, 2025, I contacted them about euthanasia for Noel, my almost 18-year-old kitty. At the time, Noel's health went down rapidly in a matter of 2 days. On that day, I made the difficult decision to have her humanely euthanized. I made a call to my established veterinary office and they were unable to schedule an appointment that day so I made calls to several vet offices looking for available appointments, but also getting price quotes, since we all need to be price conscious during these difficult times. Even though, Caring Hands Veterinary Hospital was priced higher, I chose to use their services. WHAT A MISTAKE! A friend and I were placed in a room after standing in their lobby for an extended amount of time after we arrived. In the room, while we waited to have the vet euthanize Noel, the vet tech managed the financial part of the transaction - IN THE EXAMINATION ROOM! My friend and I were crying our eyes out while I held on to Noel tightly for the last time and the amount charged was significantly HIGHER than what I was quoted on the phone. I wasn't in a position to leave and go to another clinic close by or the emergency vet hospital. Noel wasn't doing well, and I didn't want her to suffer. I value transparency and integrity in veterinary care, and I was disappointed to encounter price gouging or, at the very least, a failure to honor a clearly communicated quote. A week later or so, I called and eventually spoke to the office manager and explained the situation. I requested a refund to match the quoted price, and she was unreasonable about the situation. She acknowledged that a new employee provided the quote but was unwilling to honor it. She even told me the new employee would be disciplined because of the error. At that point, I mentioned perhaps coaching was a better choice. This experience left me feeling misled and financially strained, especially since I made decisions based on the information provided to me. I was very deliberate when I obtained and documented the quotes. I had each office's quotes written down giving a notebook page to each one I called. I asked the same questions to each office to make sure I had an accurate picture of what to expect before making the decision on what clinic to use. The total price they charged was $655.50 which included euthanasia, cremation with her ashes returned and the cremation urn. These charges were approximately $150 higher than originally quoted. Given my experience and what I feel was an exploitation of my grief, I would NEVER consider using Caring Hands Veterinary Hospital again. **UPDATE** - The Office Manager emailed and called me today (November 10th) offering me a full refund. I wonder why it had to come to this? It's sad that these small community businesses are being bought by these uncaring corporate businesses.

The cardiologist told me with with meds, we could get a year to a year and a half with her, well we got to love her for an additional 15 months. But then the meds stopped working and she was suffering. I called around but not only was the pricing off the charts, I would have had to wait a few days, I don't think she had a few days. Then I called Community Pet Hospital, they said we could come any time, just to give them 30 minutes to prepare! I set a time, but when it got close, I panicked, called and rescheduled.... they were kind and understanding about it.... well I calmed down a couple of hours later, so called again and rescheduled. And you know what, they said "that is fine, we understand". We got there, with my girl dog, Frankie Lynn, they took us to a room they had set up, just for us, with the plaque in the photo. There was calming music playing, soft lights and just a very calming atmosphere. They gave us plenty of time to say our goodbyes (and a new box of tissues) then they came in sedated her and it was over. I felt such a feeling of peace and calmness. Far cry from the wreck I was earlier. We chose to take her remains with us so they provided a nice carrier and let us out a back door. AMAZING! I would HIGHLY recommend Community Pet Hospital for your veterinary needs, in fact, I am going to change my vet to them!

Kind, sensitive and knowledgeable are just a few words I would use to describe the staff. Turbo was relaxed and calm right to the end. He went very peacefully. I was never rushed and given plenty of space to say my last goodbye. They even let me go home after he passed to get my other pups to have their last moments with him to make sure they understood. We used…read moreto come to Eastlake quite often, but unfortunately the last two visits left us very disappointed. The first visit was just for a check-up. At that time, I didn't want to vaccinate my cat yet because he wasn't acting like himself, and I wanted to wait until the next visit. I explained this, but throughout the appointment the nurse and doctor made several comments about how he needed vaccines and his rabies shot. I completely understand the importance of vaccines, but I felt pressured because I had already said I planned to do them--just not that day. The doctor then said they didn't want to do an exam if I was just going to come back later for vaccines, since they didn't want to charge me both times. It just left me feeling unheard and pressured rather than supported. The second visit was far more serious. My cat had vomited a reddish, dark brown liquid that looked like dried blood, and he was very lethargic. The nurse and front desk staff were kind, but my interaction with the doctor was upsetting. She barely let me speak, often cut me off, and made me feel like my questions were silly or unimportant. I had to show her pictures to prove my cat had vomited blood. When I asked about treatments, the way she explained things felt belittling instead of compassionate. They suggested an anti-nausea shot and ulcer medication, but when they took him back, they returned saying he "wasn't cooperating." The doctor never came back to talk to me herself--I only got information from the nurse. Instead of trying further, they just sent me home with medicine. It felt like she barely examined him and had already written him off. Another huge concern was the cost. I was quoted extremely high prices for x-rays and bloodwork, which I couldn't afford at the time. I would have tried to find options--CareCredit, pet loans, or even other clinics--but no one mentioned any of those resources. It wasn't until we went to another vet later that I learned about them. Sadly, by then it was too late. Our sweet kitty passed away from anemia at the end of July, he was 1.5 years old. I understand that vets have limits, and I know not everything can be affordable or easy. But what hurt the most was the lack of compassion and the way I felt dismissed and pushed away. When you're scared and heartbroken for your pet, compassion and communication mean everything and I wish we had received more of that during our visits here.

I got to Northside at about 6:30 in the evening. I could tell it was very busy. I was checked in and expected a little bit of a wait. After about 20 minutes, I was taken into an exam room and about 10 minutes later a tech came in and triaged my cat. The decision was made to euthanize him. The technician told me that the doctor would be in. I began to grieve my baby boy. Little did I know that I would be left in the room with no communication for an hour. I finally stepped out and the receptionist told me that they would be in soon. About another 30 minutes, went by and I could no longer take it. I was 100% a wreck and made the decision to take him back home. I packed him up in his carrier and walked out. The receptionist told me they would be in soon, but I told her I can't do this anymore. I can't tell you how horrible it was to sit there and wait for the end only to not have it happen. I got home and my husband was extremely upset. He phoned the clinic and was lied to. The receptionist told him that I was told that it would be a 3 hour wait. Not true! If I had known, I was going to be there for 3 hours waiting to put my lovely boy down,I would've never done it. I would've gone elsewhere. Needless to say I'm going to have to take him somewhere else today and go through it again. One of the most horrible experiences. Ever.
