The decor isn't much of interest and the waiting staff with the CIA ear pieces take a bit of getting used to, but the food was so stand out good that this has to get the five stars. Flavours abound, distinctive and rich, and every aspect feels perfectly judged. It's not showy but it is complex and every one of our party of six, which had fish, meat and veggie options, was more than satisfied. We went for the 8 course tasting menu (it was a birthday gift). Such a treat! The food was pretty good. I loved more dishes than others, especially the hake and halibut and then the main beef dish. But neither of the cheese plates were really appealing. Shame. Because I do love my goat's cheese. We also got the wine to match the different plates. Quite expensive, which brought the bill to quite a surprising amount, but matched each of the dishes very well. The staff were very good, pleasant and seem to know their stuff. Bang Cafe restaurant is one of my favourite restaurants in Dublin city. Bang Cafe does lunch and dinner menu's and has a superb drinks menu, which includes cocktails, wines, beers and hot drinks. The cafe looks very cosmopolitan inside and the atmosphere in there is always buzzing. The first floor is where you dine and the basment is where the bar is. The cocktail menu is divided into three lists, shots, apperitifs and sweeteners. I like the Beam me up scottie, which is kahlua, baileys, milk and creme de banane. Bang is a trendy restaurant in a great area of Dublin.  I had a very satisfying meal here with business associates, but it would be great for a date.  Reservations are a must, but worth it if you have to wait.  The food all was unique.  My favorite was the Duck.   It is a little spendy, but average costs for a high end restaurant. read more

A wonderful meal for our final night in Ireland. The menu consists of local Irish ingredients excellently prepared in creative ways. The atmosphere is chic-casual, but in a way that my 75-year old parents were not put off. Service was very good, with a friendly, welcoming hostess and attentive waitstaff. Our meal started with an amuse bouche of pan seared salmon with some ginger and micro greens. Delicious and a creative pairing. The thin slice of ginger was not overpowering and complimented the Salmon. For our entrees, I had a pan-seared Hake with roasted cauliflower and a crunchy potato wedge. The fish was fresh and cooked perfectly. Presented as a long rectangle with a crispy top, the potato wedge was tender and was the most creatively prepared of the many potato dishes we ate during our visit. The cauliflower consisted of half a floret, nicely charred. My wife had duck in a blackberry port sauce. It came prepared with a crispy skin and tender, succulent meat. Also included was a generous slice of melt-in-your-mouth seared foie gras. The sauce was thick and rich, with some full blackberries. The wine list was very good, with numerous by-the-glass selections. We skipped dessert, so nothing to report there. All in all a fantastic experience! read more

I was pleasently surprised with the bill for two people here. I exected it to be more pricey. I enjoyed my meal, but not sure if I would run back in a hurryI have eaten in many places around the world but the chicken & black budding with foie gras and veal sweetbreads was the best starter I've ever tasted. The special one had the seared scallops which were sweet & succulant. Mains were the rumps of lamb & veal cooked to perfection with minimal fuss on the plate. My dessert is always the cheese board which was a fine selection of local and imported cheese. The service was friendly, quietly understated yet always there. This is an amazing restaurant. Food and drinks taste fantastic and are delivered in glamourous presentation. They've got a Michelin banner but no stars. I'm no expert but would imagine they need to serve smaller portions to move toward a star. The trout appetizer I had was the highlight of the night, the best food I've had in a long time. Despite having lovely company and a joyous spirit of celebration, I was disappointed by Bang, so hyped in the Wallpaper guide to Dublin, and generally regarded as such a fine establishment. The decor was lovely, though I didn't like the high pulpit from which the host greeted us. Nor did I care for the basement in which we were seated, which was too cold for comfort and not nearly intimate enough for the space. The entire room was filled with single sex tables, which though not Bang's fault lent a sort of sterile feel to the room, undercutting the reputation for swinging cool. I suppose I expected Nyood with good food, so you can imagine that the staid scene encountered was a bit of a disappointment! Our meal cost 76 euro for two, which included two starters, two mains, and two drinks apiece, which is reasonable enough, though nothing outside the sides for the mains (creamed cabbage and polenta, which were remarkable by virtue of the plain materials transformation into creamy, savoury, heavenly, flavour) were especially delicious. I found my pork belly to be incorrectly prepared- it wasn't melting, and the crackling was left on top of the slice which lent a toughness to it. In the past the two have been separated which allows both textures to be appreciated. As well, my manhattan was appalling. read more

What a wonderful way to begin our Irish Holiday and quell the effects of a long plane ride. Wandering around Merrion Square in a collective family daze, we happened upon Bang and after a quick consult decided we needn't look further. Instinct and experience told us to head in. No reservation but the staff happily seated us with the request that we give up our table at 8:30 pm for a previous reservation. It was about 6:15 and so we had NO problem with this. Quite generous of them as a matter of fact! The menu varies so your experience with it will too but openers of seared tuna with avocado mousse, pickled cucumber, elderflower & soy, another warm salad of heirloom carrots with amazing Moroccan spices, the carrots as if pulled from the garden moments before along with sweet snd smokey field mushrooms. A dark and chewy homemade bread with the sweetest butter was also gobbled up. What a start! We moved onto a crispy and moist Pan fried hake with Dublin bay prawns, cauliflower puree, mussels & vadouvan. Amazing!! Another main of rabbit so tender it fell apart under my fork and the last a Slaney lamb rump, pressed shoulder, charred onion and anchovy emulsion. My son devoured this with almost embarrassing ease!! Fatigue and sated appetites didn't allow for deserts, alas, but given another chance I think we'd be up to the task. Bang is a charming space, tastefully decorated and staffed by warm and highly skilled people. The kitchen represents all that is good in modern, classically rooted cuisine with a standard for innovation and excellence that is of the highest order. We felt casual and relaxed but this place also lends itself to an upscale feel. This versatility isn't easy to accomplish but Bang does easily and comfortably. How lucky we were and thanks to Bang for a perfect beginning. read more

This was my favorite fine dining experience of the week in Dublin. Had a business dinner here and started with the oxtail gnocchi, which was a very good way to start it off. The oxtail added the perfect amount of saltiness to the very well prepared gnocchi that melts in your mouth. For the main, had the ribeye, which was cooked to perfection at medium rare for me. I've booked into Bang for a Valentines treat. The staff were very friendly upon arrival, took our coats and wished us a happy valentines day. I'm not a big fan of sitting close to the kitchen service, however, our table was straight across the kitchen/serving area. We've both had a set four course menu that evening. I'm not sure if it is just snobbery on my behalf but I wasn't really that impressed with the food. I've been already to a couple of Michelin star restaurants in the UK before and a colleague of mine recommended me Bang. The food was ok - however, the presentation seemed rather rushed and half hearted. This was probably because of the fact that it was valentines day and all the tables were booked. We also spend 3 hours in the restaurant, whereby we spend the last hour waiting for our remaining last course (a tiny cheeseboard) and the arrival of the bill. To be honest, I wouldn't return to this restaurant again. We spend over 120€ for the both of us (2 classes of Prosecco, 4 course set menu) and rather go somewhere else for such a special occasion. Nevertheless, the best I've had in Bang was the home baked Irish Soda Bread. read more

We were excited about spending our last night in Dublin with a great meal but were very disappointed with food and service at Bang. The risotto was heavily salted to the point of being indelible. No one came to the table after serving to check on how we liked our meals. I had ordered sparkling water and the glass was refilled with tap before it was empty. The onion soup was very good. Really enjoyed my dining experience at BANG! Had wanted to go for ages and was lucky to get a last minute table for valentines! Had the risotto starter and it was by far the best I've had. Oh there was also fresh bread when we arrived which is also a nice touch. I had the duck main course and again it was really good! So full of flavour and really tender. My o.h had the seared tuna starter which was good but he felt the temperature of it was too cold, he had steak for main and it was good. We were so full that we didn't have room for dessert! The interior of the restaurant is great and makes you feel confortable. The food was great, however, the service was not the expected. There are different people serving the table so nobody owns the table really. We got served the meat before the fish, when we told the waitress she suggested if we didn't mind.... Service: The restaurant offers high standard of service. The maître was always very alert on everything that was happening in the restaurant giving quietly instructions to the waiters. After listening to one good Irish music next door at O'Donahue's on Merrion Street, we passed Bang not he way home one night. Hmmmm. Very interesting menu. So, we made a reservation and tried it the next night. Before we started the meal, we were served a slice of irish soda bread that was perfectly crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside with just a faint touch of sweetness. We like to try dishes that are unique. So we shared a starter of terrine of wood pigeon. prune and very delicate pickled vegetables. Heavenly bliss. It was like a pate, with a gamier taste, but just as smooth. A perfect blend of ingredients. Then we shared Wicklow Mountain Venison Loin, Shepherds Pie, Honey Roast Beetroots, Butternut Squash, Dark Chocolate and Cherry Valley Duck, Crushed Jerusalem Artichoke, Local Sprouting Brocolli, Clementine and Hazelnut Crumble. These are not large portions, but they are very satisfying with an absolute artistry of blended flavors. We were full, but had a cappuccino - again, perfectly brewed. Every detail was carefully attended to. And the service was very cordial and welcoming, like you were a guest in their home. Very knowledgeable, pleasant and made sure the meal was very well paced. There is such a thing as too much attention! I usually love great service but the waitress here kept interrupting our conversations and didn't even excuse herself before she began talking. My husband and I were invited here for lunch to have a non-formal business meeting with the President of my company and another executive. HOWEVER, the food was exquisite. Someone told me this restaurant serves "modern Irish food," if that's what you want to call it, fine! The dinner my wife and I shared at Bang was one of the highlights of our trip to Dublin. From the moment we first contacted Bang to create reservations a few weeks prior to our trip, we found their staff to be very kind and responsive. This was only reaffirmed during our meal, as the waitstaff was attentive to our needs and quick to refill our glasses (a very important part of any dining experience when you're on vacation). As is the case with any restaurant, though, the staff can only carry so much of the score's weight; if the food isn't equally impressive, the stars must fall. That said, I rated Bang as a four-star establishment, and their cuisine merited every single one. We had a variety of little plates over the course of our meals, and enjoyed every single one of them. I've been to Bang twice - once for lunch and once for dinner - and I loved it. The time I went there for dinner was for my friend's hen party so it was important we had a good night out. Bang fit the bill completely. The service is really, really good - you get the impression that the wait staff take their jobs very seriously. Everyone is attentive, obliging and friendly at all times, without being fake either. We had a pre-dinner cocktail to start, which was just the ticket. Then we all had a lovely meal that nobody could find fault with. When I had lunch there more recently my experience was similar. There were three of us this time and we ate and drank well and spent about three hours there in total - if not more. And when we finally did leave it wasn't because we were being rushed out by the staff. No, I think they would have been happy to let us relax there a bit more in fact! It's a great sign of a restaurant when you're not being told that your table is needed asap for the next party. read more
