This was disgusting food. Online price for phad thai was 11.99. I was charged 19.99. But worse the food was horrible. The noodles were very oily. There were literally 4 little pieces of chicken. All was very overcooked. I gsve the chicken pieces after washing oil off to the dog and tossed the noodles. In no way did this resemble any variation of pad thai. It was just disgusting. Never again! I remember a time a few years back when I would've eaten here every day if it were possible. The last time I ordered i was the last order taken for the night and I couldn't wait to eat. The owner charged me $43 for food I couldn't eat. It was old and it was not fit to eat! I was so disappointed. When I called to complain the next day, the girl answering the phone never apologized and I never heard back from the restaurant. I ordered their special the Thai snapper. They said they deboned the fish but I still found bones and what made it more difficult was they put the sweet chili sauce all over the fish which made it more different to eat especially trying to avoid eating fish bones. The flavor was good but will not order it again. Good service there was a table across from us which had a wife and husband and three kids. The wife and the three kids were in there pajamas!! Unfortunately, the food quality has really gone down for us. This was our favorite place for decades but we have been consistently disappointed with Bangkok over the past year. Each time we go back to give it another chance our food is disappointing. I wouldn't say it's bad but it just isn't the 5 stars I used to give it. The pad thai is now soup. The meats are very dry and bland. The seafood has been very fishy as well. The portions have gone down significantly while the pricing has increased. They have taken a few of our favorites off the menu like the appetizer platter. We can't afford to buy 4 appetizers just to get a sampling of what we always loved to order. read more

My friends and I go here at least 1-2 times a year. I've been going since the early 1980s. They started with one store front and have grown three store fronts. In the beginning, they directed you to buy your alcohol at the 7-11 next door because they didn't have their license yet. Great food & service. Ambiance - pretty & authentic. So disappointed. Got 3 things here. The Ribs appetizer- it had a weird red dye color and at least the meat was moist, but really had no flavor. The Chicken Pad Thai was so mushy and just didn't even have fresh anything in it or any real hint of anything. Maybe this is made for "older" folks who have no taste buds or have never had real Thai food. The Green curry was slightly better in that it had some heat and a coconut taste. Visit Thailand in Sarasota, says the first page of the menu, and I agree! Inside is very pretty and very much Thai themed. We were promptly greeted by the staff and our waiter kept checking on us regularly to refill water and make sure everything tastes good. Top notch service! I have been to Thailand and had Thai all over America. This is a bit bland but they also cater to an old white person crowd, I came here with my mother for lunch. The food was good, very affordable. Our meals together was $21 and included a free spring roll for each of us. The restaurant is very clean, as were the bathrooms. The restaurant is very well maintained and had a nice ambiance. Came here for dinner during our last holiday vacation to Sarasota after our flight home was canceled. The food was good and satisfied my Thai craving! Our party of three ordered 3 main dishes and several appetizers. While it is not the best Thai food I've had, we had no real complaints. The establishment is clean and decorated nicely - there are a lot of details to take in. The staff was very friendly. Prices were very fair. Portions are of good size. We had plenty of leftovers to take home for the next day. I would definitely visit again on our next trip! read more

Asked several times for Thai condiments to be included, all affirmed and nothing included. Order taker asked if I wanted lunch portion ( very small, her words) or dinner. Opted for dinner and cannot imagine what lunch portion must be... invisible maybe? Go to Isan Thai and experience a meal with value, more authenticity, and overall taste! But because we had to throw everything away, immediately, we then had to the figure out what to eat for dinner (again) at 8pm. Sadly, I had an inclining I was in for some sort of surprise when I picked up the food, as the food order itself was incorrectly labeled on the bag, and the hostess was very confused. I've been getting Bangkok for over 25 years and it's an absolute staple in Sarasota. It is authentic, priced very reasonably and great portion sizes. The crab Rangoon are one of my favorite foods of all time. Service is great, pretty quick, and always friendly and the atmosphere is very authentic! Parking is slim so arrive a few minutes early if you have a reservation just in case :) read more

I'm not from Sarasota so I pulled out my trusty YELP app and searched for high-ranking Thai restaurants. And, yes... This restaurant has a lot of five-star reviews. And I saw that the restaurant hasn't been claimed. I interpret that to mean that the owner hasn't claimed the name and therefore may not have tried to mitigate any bad reviews. So, for the most part, the restaurant should actually be a five-star establishment. Hmmm I sat down and ordered Masaman with pork and Tom Yum soup. I asked the waitress about their spicy levels and she told me the usual, that they work off of a five pepper ranking and the more peppers on the menu the spicier the food is. As a high spice guy, I asked her to make my food Thai-hot, in other words, 5 peppers if not more. In the Thai restaurant in Oklahoma City, the waitress confirmed if I was sure what I was asking, but here she smiled and disappeared into the kitchen. I became suspicious. Twenty minutes later the waitress came out with my Tom Yum soup. It was blanketed in chili powder. They didn't make it spicy, they just added pepper powder onto it. The flavor was horrible and I set it off to the side. Next, my waitress came out with the Masaman curry. But the kitchen had done something to the presentation that was so off that the waitress didn't know what the dish was. She finally figured out that it was the masaman and sat it down in front of me. It too had a blanket of pepper powder. Blagh I did the best I could to skim off the powder and just eat the rest. But the meat had been boiled to death and there was no flavor in it. The restaurant has a Thai feel to it. The decor is nice and the staff seems to be Thai but whatever is going on in the kitchen is most definitely not Thai. There was no customer service in that they didn't ask me how the food was and why I hadn't touched the Tom Yum and the Masaman wasn't finished. I was disappointed in this selection. One of the most iconic Thai dishes is Tom Yum Goom - hot and sour shrimp soup. In Thailand it is found everywhere - from school cafeterias to high end restaurants to street corners. Thus one of the dishes I use to judge a Thai restaurant is the quality of their Tom Yum Goom. At Bangkok Restaurant it is terrible, unrecognizable. The shrimp was rubbery, there were no mushrooms or cilantro & the usual layered flavors of galangal, lemongrass & lime leaves were replaced by a one note taste. You couldn't sell this on the street in Bangkok. We ordered the starter sampler. The purpose of a starter is you try different things - these all tasted the same. The house special was a fried red snapper - it was totally overcooked & dry. You'd think the special would be prepared when you order it, not hours before & warmed up, which is how this tasted. My wife called in an order around 6:10pm. When we got to the restaurant around 6:45 to pick it up, the place was PACKED! I'm talking no parking spots, people walking in and out and a ton of people inside. I couldn't believe our order was ready to go so quickly with all those people, but based on looks, I assumed the food here was really really good. My wife got massaman curry with chicken and I got pad Thai with beef. Other than both of our meals looking like what we ordered, there was no other indication that we actually got those 2 things. Somehow my pad Thai tasted like....nothing. It was the right color and looked to have all of the right ingredients, but the noodles, the beef, the sauce and even the peanuts were just so bland. I literally chewed on a peanut, took it out of my mouth, looked at it and then chewed on it again because I honestly had no clue how a peanut could possibly have no flavor at all. Maybe it was boiled? Not sure why that would be, but it was a little soft and pale looking. My wife's curry was a bit better than my pad Thai, but was still very very mild in flavor. I had a few bites and again only realized I was eating a peanut when there was a bit of a (soft) crunch. So either Floridians are not a fan of flavor or maybe they just haven't had great Thai food. As long as they're happy, I'm happy, but they can rest easy knowing I won't be back here, so more for them! read more

If you're looking for somewhere to eat, do not come here. the food was horrible and we were very rushed to pick what we wanted. The lunch specials are fantastic! $8.95 for most dishes and it comes with a spring roll. Excellent deal as the portions are large. We also ordered the dumplings and those were absolutely delicious. After having been to Sarasota for 20+ years, this used to be our go-to Thai restaurant when the community was fairly small. We always loved how beautiful the interiors for Thai restaurants are in Sarasota. This one is no exception. All the wood paneling is so beautiful. Service was a little slow the night we came so the wait between courses and getting our appetizers was pretty slow. They made up for it by comp'ing our dessert which was unexpected and a nice gesture. Appetizers were abysmal...we ordered the chicken satay and egg rolls. Chicken satay tasted somewhat rubbery and not quite but close to jerky; peanut sauce was not very tasty. The egg rolls tasted like the ones you get at Panda Express; it's supposed to have ground chicken but where is the chicken?! All I saw and tasted was cabbage, thread noodles and carrots. Dipping sauce for the egg rolls was good. Need to try other appetizers when we come back. For our entrees, we ordered their Lobster seafood stir fry in garlic sauce. OMG this was amazing!! I would come back here just for this dish. Definitely a 5-star dish. Sauce was spot on. We also ordered the duckling curry. Loads of good duck meat but the curry was nothing special. There was good flavor but nothing to write home about. Ordered the fried banana and coconut ice cream...I should have read it more carefully...it was drenched in this honey sauce which was a bit overwhelming. The ice cream was not what I would expect from coconut milk like other Thai restaurants. Overall, not a hit with me. I would like to come back for the Lobster seafood stir fry and try some other dishes. I ordered a few items for pick from this Thai restaurant but dissatisfied with the entree. Bangkok Cashew chicken stir fry. It was soupy and not much chicken. I expected it to have more flavor and being a stir fry it should have been more caramelized. The soups were ok. The Tom Kah soup was delicious but the Won Ton soup had one won ton. Probably won't order again. $25 for two soups and an entree. read more
