Still very good My wife suggested this restaurant for dinner with friends, and I was delighted. Not only is Thailand Restaurant a Thai place but is also a Vietnamese place. I've recently learned how to eat Pho properly and wanted to show off. That went well, our friends were impressed. While everyone else went Thai, I got the large bowl of Pho with the steak. Using chopsticks and that awkwardly shaped spoon, I deftly finished not too much longer than it took the others took to eat. It was very good, and a fun evening. We liked the place but were concerned there were so few customers. I suppose Mondays are slow most places, many places even close on Mondays. Do you like Thai food and other eastern style food? Then I suggest you eat here. We love this locally owned Thailand Restaurant. Everything we have gotten here has been fresh and flavorful. I have not dined in but we have gotten takeout several times. I adore the lunch specials and that you can order online. The lunch special comes with a great sized portion of the entree, a side of jasmine rice as well as a vegetable egg roll. I have had the tofu pad thai (was asked when I ordered on the phone of it needed to be made "vegan" which I appreciate) and the pad see ew and they are both excellent. I like that you can order online per their website. When we pick up our orders, everyone working has been friendly and helpful and provides great service. Ordered food from this place. What in the actually F(ail). How is this place even open. The pork egg rolls tasted stale and came with a very liquidity dip, the crispy duck was extremely gamey and had a layer of fat the tasted gross. The pineapple friend rice has a strange Chinese 5 spice seasoning to it. The wonton soup was okay nothing special. I wanted to cry it was not good at all. The service and owners of this place are so nice and lovely folks so I hate to give this such a low rating (2.5 stars), but the Thai food just wasn't very good. This place is in Gulf Gate in a strip of stores with the typical Asian/Style decor and lots of wood. It was fine and plenty of seating. The food came out fast and they were very accommodating since we didn't even get there till 8PM and were the last ones there as they were closing up. Anyway, got the dumplings - it had a strange texture and chicken taste. Looked more like Chinese shumai than anything else. The chicken pad thai was a little to "runny" for me and saucy versus firm noodles. The Tom Kha soup had to taste to it really which was disappointing - it was like just some coconut milk and shrimp - zero flavor. The best part of the meal was the Vietnamese food. The pancake appetizer and Bun/vermicelli were pretty good. Maybe their backgrounds were more Vietnamese and I would try just that side of the menu again. I've eaten a lot of Thai food in both Bangkok and across the US and unfortunately, this doesn't compare whatsoever. I hope this place can do better, but it has to up it's quality of food. read more

I've come down to Siesta Key each year and we've eaten at other Asian restaurants and have been surprised that I have never eaten here before, especially since it's close to where we go grocery shopping. I discovered this place since a friend of mine who used to live in Sarasota (and now lives in Tampa) drove down to meet me. We did a hot yoga class in the morning and she had recommended Thailand Restaurant for lunch since it would be close to where I was staying. It was still early, before they were technically open to serve lunch, but we went in and was allowed to be seated. I was so pleasantly surprised with the interior atmosphere. The outside stripmall is really deceiving. Ironically, I probably unknowingly have seen the restaurant and all the adjoining stores when I pull out of the parking lot of Sarasota Pavilion (where the Panera/Publix is). The booths is a bit more private (see photo that I posted), and even the bathroom (I almost took a photo of it) was so relaxing with its decor. The restaurant is much larger than the front room that we were seated in. There's another whole separate room that was darkened. It looked like it would be used for dinner as there was a bar there too. When I mentioned to my friend that the interior design was really nice, she did say, there's another restaurant whose even fancier decor but she does like this place and I can understand why. Service was very prompt which was great since we were starving. We ordered green tea to start, plus water to help rehydrate after hot yoga. This restaurant had both Thai and Vietnamese dishes to choose from. I have really come to love Thai food, especially since our eldest daughter had lived there for a year. I ordered the chicken pad thai, actually coincidentally, we both did. Our server was really good about our desire to have no nuts for my friend's dish, and to have the peanuts from mine put to the side (I wasn't sure if I was going to finish all of mine, and since my husband has peanut allergy, didn't want it to be in my leftover, actually she place it in a completely separate small dish). It was good portion size. The taste was good, chicken tender. The noodles were cooked just right with that proper elasticity. I personally like my noodles to be a little more moist, and this did have that. I asked for mild (aka, no spice; since I'm a wuss with heat) and I kinda wish I asked for just a tad since I know after a hot yoga class, I'm a little dehydrated so flavors aren't as prominent tasting then. Before the pad thai chicken came out, we had spring roll and soup which came with our lunch entree. Gotta love that - what a treat. We both didn't finish our dish so we got to have box to go. I'm a big eater, and being as hungry as I was, I was very surprised that I did have leftovers, and it was a good size portion left. I wish I took a photo of the entree to check back on it. I completely forgot to take the pix of it since after having the spring roll and soup, my mouth and stomach were ready to go! Yet, I was wondering if perhaps it was also because we were catching up on so much. All I can say is, my husband loved the leftover and it was enough for both of us. Again, service was great. It was a little strange as she came back often and even gave us our bill. In my mind, it felt like to rush us out, but there were plenty of other seats. Though it was most likely for prompt service as we continued to stay there and talk even after paying for the bill. The price of this lunch was such a great deal. I compare it to lunch prices that I have from where I live, and would not have expected the entree to be only $8. . . again that includes the spring roll and soup. I'm a fan of this place and look forward to next year's vacation so I can take my husband there. read more

So, I had to come here because a co-worker was bragging to me about how much better they are than Bangkok. I went. The entire experience was almost the same, except for one thing... The meat in the curry was too thick! The beef was not sliced thin, but thick. This made it chewy to me, and that is off-putting. Enough so that I did not eat my whole meal. That was enough for me to give it 3 stars. It just isn't as good as its competitor. Bottom line: Try it out and tell me who makes the best Curry; Bangkok or Thailand. read more

This is such an unassuming little Thai restaurant stuck squarely in the middle of a strip mall in South Sarasota, just about a mile off the beach. I was in town visiting a friend who knows I'm vegetarian and is pretty unsure what exactly I will or will not eat. He picked this restaurant as a "safe bet" for a vegetarian like me. Well, I'm excited to report that dinner was a success for both of us. He ordered the chicken pad thai, which he voraciously ate until it was gone. I ordered the massaman curry with tofu, which was also delicious, even though I ate only half. (Have you even LIVED if you haven't enjoyed massaman curry leftovers for breakfast while on vacation?) Service was attentive and not pushy. Decor inside was kind of dark with lots and lots of heavy, ornate wood. This visit occured in May 2021 during the pandemic, and all staff were wearing masks. Off the beaten path located in a strip mall. The restaurant is spacious and there was no wait on a Thursday night. We ordered the massaman curry with seafood and chicken pad see ew. The chicken pad see ew came out first. The noodles were cooked perfectly, but the chicken was overcooked and dry. The flavor of the dish itself was good though. The massaman curry was just okay. I didn't find it as flavorful as other Thai restaurants. It just needed a little more oomph. The seafood was okay, but I doubt they were fresh. The potatoes had an odd texture. Grainy almost? Have been here numerous times and it used to be very decent. Recently the standard is atrocious. Honestly don't waste your time. Tonight we ordered Ka Prow and there was zero flavor. The vegetables were old. There was no sauce, it was cooked in water. My order was completely wrong. I ordered Pad Seew with tofu. They put beef (or could have been pork to be honest it was gray I couldn't tell) and it wasn't even the right dish. Again old vegetables that tasted like they had gone off. Over priced for the recent standards and not worth it. Better options in the area. read more

Fits into all the other Thai restaurants in this area: MEDIOCRE. I think they all try but have to dumb-it-down spice wise for the locals. And I am not talking about heat level, the dishes themselves were bland. Who doesn't add fish sauce (nam pla) to their Pad Thai? How can you have only two small pieces of basil in the Pork BASIL? Lazy cooking or they know their audience. A smile when we first walked in would have been nice but at least the servers warmed up a bit when brining our food. Ate here on vacation with spouse and #3 daughter on a Monday night (Isan Thai was closed, we'll have to try that one another night). Good crowd, all booths were taken so we sat comfortably at tables. Booths are traditional Thai wooden carvings, beautiful and seemingly authentic, so nice atmosphere. Service was pretty prompt: quick water filling, beer order taken immediately, appetizers came quickly. Brought out the wrong order for me and corrected it very quickly. Food was quite good. We had a noodle dish, a curry, and Pad Kaprow (vegetable-tofu in basil with spice). I asked for hot and got it exactly as wanted. Very tasty. Appetizer vegetarian spring roll is perhaps the best one I've ever had. I do want to try Isan Thai, which is so well reviewed on Yelp, and I can easily see returning here. read more

All of the food is great. Wonderful new online ordering system. Can order and pay online and just pick. Friendly staff. They serve Vietnamese Pho and other Vietnamese favorites as well as Thai food. This works well for us as we like both and get a few items from each. My daughter loves drunken noodles with chicken and swears theirs is the best. She has tried it everywhere. We have been going here for years and the food has always been decent. The last couple times the service has been horrible and they seem more concerned about the take out business then customers in the restaurant. While we were there we saw two tables walk out and they forgot to bring out my wife's dish. Thai food is my favorite and I've eaten Thai all over the United States. This was good. I walked in for take out and they were very quick! The Tom Kha soup was tasty and had huge chunks of veggies in it. The shrimp still had the tails and there were only two shrimp in it. I ordered medium but it seemed pretty mild. The green curry was excellent with the perfect tender veggies. The flavor was good and I ordered mild/medium and it was a good amount of heat. Thai tea was very sweet. Prices were average. read more

FOOD Although the amount given tends to lean towards the skimpy side, the dishes are very "delish." The vegetables were freshly crunchy and the sauces were not overbearing. On the other hand, the cold dishes seem to have the flavor caked around the food item as opposed to soaked inside--which is preferable. Although I've asked for "spicy," my stir-fries have never made me cry yet--and I know authentic Thai dishes are normally tear-jerkers for these brown babies. Catering to sensitive American tongues perhaps? ATMOSPHERE Very ornate and draped in many gold colors. Statues and dark wood abounds. Mix this in with the dim lighting and deep-seated booths... and this can create a very personal space especially for date nights. SERVICE Eager to please - we actually had several servers (including the manager I assume) approach our table and ask if everything was well. This is the kind of fusion one can get one's teeth into. Thai food and Vietnamese food have enough similarities and sufficient differences for worthwhile interbreeding. From Vietnam we find ingredients closer to their natural state; Thailand gives us complexity arising from longer cooking times. Because both countries share a climate, a soil and a sea, food variations are more cultural and historical than natural. Experimenting with blended cooking techniques and prep style won't produce too many bum notes, and might just give us some triumphs. This place is a low-key triumph all its own. On what might otherwise be a slow Sunday night, patrons fill most tables and booths. The service reflects the warmth and homeliness of both cultures, and the food was as interesting and fresh as one could expect. Importantly, the prices are pretty darn good. This place was really nice. Food was delicious, though if you order a curry with potatos in it, they could really do with cutting them a bit smaller. The atmosphere in here is great! Wood carving facade everywhere, and it's dimly lit and inviting. I liked it a lot, very romantic. The sushi was a bit substandard, but I can forgive it and forget it.
