We wanted to go to Krung Siam on our barhopping for my birthday. Social media said it was closed. But I had a restaurant change to Bangkok Street. We drove by the old one, and there was a huge fire. The roof was caved in. So we headed to downtown to try this out. The only parking would find was paid parking, however, conveniently the parking lot was right next to the restaurant. As we entered, there were plenty of tables, and the first thing you notice is you don't have to wait to be seated. They do not have table service either. There's a counter where you order your food so we grabbed a table, looked at the menu and then went to the counter to order. I stood at the counter at least 7 minutes and the guy there in the phone, hung up and left me standing there... Finally another person came by and took the order. That was not convenient. What we ordered: Lychee martini Sex on the beach Ribeye fried rice Chicken fried noodle noodles Some appetizers It took quite a while for the cocktails. The bartender only had two people sitting at the bar, but after 15 minutes, my son went up to the bar to find out why the guy was not making our drinks. He made them right away. They were about three tables ahead of us and the food took about 20 minutes. Drinks weee decent and priced nice @ $13 The food was definitely good. As good as can be expected not being in time.thailand. Good size portions. But definitely over priced for cafeteria style, seat yourself, go to the counter and wait so long to get served. Finally, the credit card screen recommends adding 18% gratuity. This seems to be a trend that restaurants with to go portions and fast food are trying to eat more money out of you. This has got to be the best meal you can get in the area. As authentic as you would find in Thailand, really affordable prices with even a lunch special, quick service, and beyond delicious. I got the baked mussels appetizer, which comes with this unbelievable green sauce, the beef pad Thai which was seriously good, and the beef salad. They've got it all, but nothing felt rushed, careless, or touristy. It's also just a cool, artsy vibe, with a TV showing street markets of Bangkok. The food was good, it just didn't hit the way I was hoping. We ordered shrimp fried rice, not spicy, and my husband loved it. I got the drunken noodles with beef, which are supposed to be spicy, but there was basically no heat at all. The Thai fried rice was good too, but again I was missing that spice you usually expect from Thai food. I really wish they had spice levels so you could choose your heat, because that probably would have made a big difference. They do have water available, which is nice, but I wasn't a fan of the bottled sodas. I would have preferred fountain drinks. A great little locals place downtown. We came here for a light dinner before a show at the Smith Center. There's a reasonably priced public lot right next door, and it was very easy to drive over to the theater afterwards. We loved everything we tried: the beef salad with flavorful dressing, tender/crisp grilled pork jowl with tamarind, and the luscious mango sticky rice. The portions were just right for us: plentiful but not heavy. We asked for low spice on the beef salad and it was effectively zero spice, but still had plenty of zing. The service is prompt and friendly. The beef salad came out quite a while before the pork jowl. That wasn't a big deal because we were sharing both dishes anyway, but it wasn't what we were expecting. I would love to come back and try the special short rib massaman curry. All the specials sounded great. My only complaints about the casual atmosphere were that the door was open on a chilly night and the music was too loud. We quickly read the menu options and chose the chicken wings, curry puffs, spring rolls and drunken noodles with chicken along with two Singha big boy beers. The beer took quite awhile to arrive (it was busy though!) and the food followed shortly thereafter (20 minutes +or- from ordering). We found the wings & noodles authentic & tasty. The curry puffs could've used more curry but the flakey crust was sublime. The spring rolls were nicely fried & crispy but they sure need hot chili sauce to better compliment the sweet sauce. What a great find this place was. While on Fremont, we were looking at all the usual suspects to eat at, until we spotted Bangkok. The place had a very inviting atmosphere, and lighting. For seating, the booths in particular were well spaced and comfy. But most importantly, the food and service were both outstanding! We had a late lunch the same day we came here for a late dinner so split the street platter (came with 3 entrees and a papaya salad), along with the baked mussels (appetizer) and drunken noodles. Everything tasted amazing for the most part - standouts include the baked mussels, pork belly, and papaya salad. The ambiance of the restaurant was 5/5, complete with a chill house playlist, intimate booths that comfortably fit our party of 4, and twinkling fairy lights. Definitely need to ask the owner for the set list - it was that good! Service was friendly and there is a parking lot ($7 for two hours) right behind the establishment. Order at the front counter and they'll bring the food out once it's ready. Note that if you check into Yelp you can get a complimentary Thai milk tea with any entree.
