This place is inside a Vietnamese market and I would have never known about it if it weren't for my gf who suggested it. We got the #2 and I was really unsure about it because I am not really into super bready foods. Plus the bread looked really hard and distasteful but omg was I wrong. The bread was light and crispy on the outside and super soft and buttery on the inside. I was literally shocked when I took my first bite. The meat was super tender and not overly salty. I am guessing they process the lunch meat onsite as well as the bread. Not to mention the pickled veggies on the inside were absolutely the perfect combination of flavors with the meat, bread, and fresh cilantro. I came in early on a weekday to pick up sandwiches for a flight. You'll need to walk all the way to the end of the food court to find banh mi 1, past Lee's and several over food vendors. Back home I usually grab meatballs and banh tieu sesame bun for my daughter, but the ones here are Texas sized and I don't want her overdoing it since these are deep fried. Instead I opted to try their pork pies, banh pate so warm and flaky with lots of pepper in the pork. She didn't love them for some reason but I enjoyed one the next day warmed in the air fryer. Initially I ordered 2 banh mi, the new crispy pork belly heo quay and grilled chicken.. then I realized I should call my family and pick up food for them and even though there were two different transactions, the nice lady offered to honor the buy 5 get one free deal! She asked if we wanted veggies separately and since we had 6 banh mi she gave us a 2 full bags of cilantro, cucumber, and jalapeños, and separate bag of pickled daikon and carrot. When we got home I had to make an additional couple of baggies since we weren't all eating together. The banh mi were great, soft and chewy bread, meat was tender .. only a tiny bit of gristle was found. We went all grilled meats so not much pate or mayo to comment on. We came here after going to mall as my wife wanted Lee's sandwiches and decided lets go for it. It ended up being in the Saigon mall. The supermarket was opened, but did not take a look, but maybe next time. But a lot of the stores were closed. They sell different sandwiches like the Thai Meat, but they ran out. They will have other food like the stew. I ordered the pork sandwich for $6.00 and they ended up giving me 2. Not so sure because there was a mistake with the order or they like me a lot, but it is a good size as it filled me up. I ordered also the meat pie and the shrimp chips. Came by with a relative who knows the area and they highly recommended this banh mi location for a quick stop and go lunch. We all ordered different banh mi sandwiches, but I had a chance to try the #1 Dac Biet combination and the #6 Xiu Mai meatball sandwich. First, the baguettes were softer than what I was used to and I really liked that. Instead of scratching the insides of my mouth with the sharp, crispy baguette crust, I was able to bite down easily on their baguettes. As for the #1, although it didn't seem like it had a lot of meat at first, after a few bites, I was finally able to discover the layers of sliced meats. The #1 was OK and good, but it wasn't anything unique to me. As for the #6, that was what really wow'd me as I had never eaten a meatball banh mi before and the meatballs were very tasty. I also liked the generous portion inside the baguettes as well. If I were to ever revisit Banh Mi 1, the #6 would definitely be my go to sandwich. I actually did not eat the banh mi on the same day, but actually reheated them in my air-fryer over the next couple of days. Despite this, the banh mi was among one of the best I've had. The bread itself somehow maintained its inner fluffiness and slight chew, contrasted by the crispy exterior that had been blasted by the air-fryer. And believe me when I say it, but the thit itself was basically like meat butter. It was extremely tender and packed an extremely strong punch of flavor. The richness of the meat was beautifully balanced with the pickled veggies and jalapenos as toppings. The bread held itself together very well under the weight of its many toppings. I basically inhaled the sandwich every time I ate one. Overall, this is a fantastic option for cheap, authentic banh mi's around the Garland/Richardson area. This location does not have the hen xao (baby clams) like the Grand Prairie location and they put less of the butter sauce but it's closer and more convenient for us. In addition to their banh mi we also like to get the com chay and the various banh trang snacks they offer. They overload the sandwiches with green onions, cilantro, cucumbers and jalapeños though compared to other banh mi places. No big deal - you can always pick those out if you don't want them. They don't pack on a big glob of the buttery mayo stuff like Quoc Bao does which is a letdown for me since I love it but let's face it, it's better for my health. Not a fan of the chicken (ga nuong) though. The marinade is too sweet for my taste. My advice is to come here for the banh mi dac biet (combination) and go to Quoc Bao for banh mi ga nuong (grilled chicken). Love at first bite! This was hands down the best Bahn MI sandwich I have ever had. It is Buy 5 get 1 free, so I ordered three of the classic #1 as well as three of the #6 meatball. The bread is soft and crunchy at the same time. The most perfect combination in a Bahn MI sandwich. These are slightly larger Bahn MI than other places and the quality of the ingredients are fresh. I asked for the vegetables on the side and that was a great move as she gave me a nice size bag of celantro, jalapeño's and cucumbers. In a separate bag was the carrots and Diakon. This allowed me to load up spice and sweet on mine and no spice on my wife and kids. The meatball (#6) was our favorite, a decadent flavor of sweet meat that was tender and delicious. Add the celantro, bring in the jalapeño and carrots and my mouth is watering just thinking about it. We travel a lot and in the last 20 years, we have had Bahn MI from 60-70 different locations from Seattle to LA, from Vegas to Orlando. This is now my favorite place for Bahn MI. I will travel to Garland and justify the drive from Lantana for it. All future road trips will start first with a trip to Bahn Mi#1 to load up the cooler. Best bahn mi in DFW! This unassuming sandwich counter is hidden in the back of Saigon Mall food court. Their fresh bread is crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, and whatever magical spreads they put on it makes these banh mi amazing. I always get the banh mi combination 1 ($3.50, and also buy 5 get 1 free). I also love the fried rice cake snack, which is $7 but fills up a huge gallon sized ziplock bag. The sticky rice is also good ($2.50). The ladies behind the counter don't speak much English, but we make it work with a lot of gestures and English numbers.
