Solid, authentic banh mi at a good price from a nice family. Some days the roast pork is of higher quality than others. Overall one of the better options in town for a quick takeout lunch.

Original Banh Mi with Thai Ice Tea for lunch.

Stopped in for a lunch exploring Main St near The University of Delaware in Newark. Ordered a Thai Ice Tea along with a standard Banh Mi as this was my first time checking this place out. I'll be back for the other variations with family as they always enjoy a good crispy banh mi with either pate and cold cuts like the one I had or beef teriyaki. The banh mi had all the parts to it. There were pickled veggies; carrots and turnip, a slide of spicy jalapeños which got me reaching for my Thai Ice Tea. The Mayo and pate spread could have been a little more along with the cold cuts as I always appreciate a stuffed Banh Mi because getting messy with your food means you are enjoying it right? The bun was toasted well and had a crunch to it. They don't have an extensive menu for bubble tea like Kung Fu Tea or T Barr down the road but it's best to do what you do best and stick with your namesake. The outdoor seating is nice but do keep in mind that you are on a busy road and though the cars driving by are always pleasant to watch; the occasional truck will ruin your meal and leave you smell smog on a still day. All in all with Banh Mi near my work and getting my lunch done in about 45 min it's a good bet that I'll be back for more!

Delicious banh mi on walking distance of a college campus. We were on vacation and on our road trip stopped by here after reviewing from other yelpers and boy, lunch did not disappoint. First, upon arrival, I noticed that we are in walking distance from an university college. There is a parking lot for the customers which is awesome. As soon as we walked in, we're greeted by the friendly staff. The menu is right behind the counter and they have lunch specials for $6.95 and up and you can have a whole banh mi sandwich, bag of chip and can soda. We ordered 4 different lunch special banh mi: chicken, the original (which is usually called banh mi dac biet in other banh mi shops), pork and a vegetarian. We grabbed our selection of chips and soda and sat. The orders were brought out to us in minutes. The crispy French baguette with the meat fillings and tofu fillings along with the pickled carrots, cilantro, cucumber and jalapeño slices, siracha and mayo are all so yummy! They do have a few table seatings and some high seats along the store front. The place also serve rice dishes. For light eaters or those who just want to sample more than one banh mi, you can do so by ordering their half size banh mi. Overall, good food and service, clean place, has parking!!!

I love college towns! So many great little restaurants like Banh Mi Boy. This one is a must visit. It's off the beaten path so you have to seek it out and it's well worth it. It's a sleek sparse large dining area with bright orange walls and lots of plain white tables. A simple menu of a few choice Banh Mi sandwiches and some other offering and some cool tunes. The people here are fast and friendly but it's the food that's the superstar. Fresh veggies are bright and vibrant but the meats are the headliner and wow what a show. Get in this place and have a great sandwich experience.

I've tried 6 of the sandwiches and they were all amazing. Hands down my favorite was the Original, followed by the Vietnamese sausage. The chicken curry was tasty as well as the pho one. If i could offer a suggestion would be to serve the pho one with pho broth on the side to dip, like a French dip. Roast pork and the meatball ones were also legit.

Food: I have lived in the elkton/newark area almost all my life and I am so sad that I am just now learning about this place! This place is a gold mine!!! The meat is cooked and seasoned with so much flavor. The rice and vegetables with that side sauce all go to together beautifully. Don't even start me on the bread. It's so warm and fluffy! The best roll I've ever had. Also the lychee soda is SOO GOOD! Did I mention this food is dirt cheap?! This is my new favorite place on Main Street. This is a must try for sure! Service: the guy that took our order so so cool and very friendly. We had a exchanged a few words with him whole we were waiting to order and he was very kind. Other: if you're a student, this place seems like a great study/homework spot. We went to eat on a weekday afternoon and there were plenty of open tables. If I went to UD this would definitely be my go to study spot.

Compare to Pork Summer Rolls at Pho Cali, you can see slices of pork rolled around and you get 4 large rolls for $10, compared to 3 summer 'noodle' rolls. Very disappointing.

Located around the University of Delaware, this sandwich shop has parking and tables for patrons to dine in. They have specials for the sandwiches that includes chips and soda. We ordered four types of sandwiches that includes roast pork, chicken, original, and vegetarian. The usual fillings were carrots, cilantro, cucumbers, and jalapeno peppers that came with the sandwiches. I personally enjoyed the vegetarian one the most if I had to choose just one. The baguette was delicious because it was soft and toasted lightly just the way i liked mine. The breading seemed to be perfect with the texture. They also served rice dishes, but we didn't get a chance to try it. Overall, I would eat here again if I was in the area.

I must admit Joju in NYC set the bar really high for me so what may seem like a 4 to me may seem like a 5 to many others. Traveling through Delaware we decided to make a stop here for lunch. The place was super clean and quiet not much interaction between us and the staff. My husband ordered a BBQ pork banh mi while I ordered a pork banh mi. While his was great I was a bit disappointed because I hadn't realized that it would made with a pork roll, I do wish that would have been a little more transparent. Overall the sandwich was good just not exactly what I would have wanted. I will say these were the largest banh mi sandwiches I've ever had usually they baguettes are smaller. That wasn't the case here they were footlong. The milk teas were amazing especially the Tarro, if passing through Delaware I would stop again just for that.

We ended up at Banh Mi Boy after an afternoon exploring the outdoors. Banh Mi sandwiches are typically simple. However, don't let their simplistic deceive you, they are still rather tasty. Banh Mi Boy offers a standard (Original) sandwich as well as a handful of others. They also offer drinks, summer rolls, and platters. We decided to try a pair of sandwiches, the pho sandwich and the pork belly. While the pho sandwich was my selection, the pork belly beat it by a mile and would be my clear recommendation. Don't get me wrong, pho meat and toppings on a banh mi sandwich was a clever idea and tasty, that pork was perfectly cooked. I'm glad we decided to get two full sandwiches, as a half each would probably not have filled us up!

Good place close to UDEL campus. Don't waste your time or money on the half unless you are under twelve years old. There is parking on the side of the building which is better than getting a ticket from the meter gestapo on the street. I grab an iced coffee to round out the meal typically. read more

I was really upset a few years ago when Home Grown switched their Banh mi from bread to a pita.. What??? So was really happy when Banh mi boy opened. They bring in bread from a special bakery in Philly each day. And it's that attention to detail which makes each bite bring me to a happy place. My favorite Banh mi I've tried. (Note: I don't eat meat, so have just had the vegetarian). Plus the staff and owners are a delight. They know your name and order and are always happy to see you. read more

The only problem I had was the whole restaurant has an odd, strong, chemical cleaner smell, it's been present every time I have been in, and it's strong enough to distract from the food. read more

Came here today and tried the roasted pork sandwich and the shrimp summer roll. The sandwich was extremely fresh tasting. Very light yet, packed with flavor. The summer roll was a texture I had never experienced before. The where very good. I washed the meal down with a strawberry bubble tea. I would buy this stuff by the gallon if I could. read more

granted we're not in california or new york and we're in newark, de this place will have to do if you got the craving for a bahn mi. the place is clean and the owner was nice. anyways, we had the summer rolls (fresh rolls), the house special sandwiches, classic vietnamese coffee with and without the boba bubbles, and a taro bubble drink. the summer rolls were standard with the pork, shrimp, noodles and lettuce. when i say standard it's really the ingredients i just named. the sauce was really watery and more fish sauce tasting than the peanut hosin sauce i'm usually used to. the house special sandwiches were good with meats, pate and veggies crispy and fresh. the baguette was crunchy and flavorful. the coffee with boba bubbles was alright. the bubbles (tapioca balls) were super soft and seemed over cooked! the coffee part was great, but then again how can you screw up vietnamese coffee? the taro bubble tea tasted of powder and again the bubbles were overcooked. i'd come back for the sandwiches and the coffee but not the bubble drinks! read more

Really cute place and their summer rolls are the best I've ever had. They're huge first off and second the sauce that comes with them is very complimenting. Their sandwiches are alright, the bread was the stand out to me. They're not filled very much and for the price they could've had more in them. Me and a friend stopped in and got rice platters a while ago and they were better than expected. Now I understand why I have friends who rave about this place. I got roast pork over rice and it was perfect. We also had an order of the summer rolls but they were a bit too salty for our taste. There were also a large variety of drinks, which made it hard to choose, so we just got cokes, but we'll probably try something new next time. read more

I like the "personality" of this place. Staff is very friendly. The man at the shop has a welcoming attitude. This whole atmosphere draws me to get their Banh Mi once in a while. One time I ordered a rice meal. It is a filling of a Banh Mi with rice. The meal was so filling! The presentation of the food is very beautiful. Overall, this place offers a very unique food and atmosphere. I will continue to get yummy Asian taste from here. Tip: They also sell some grocery items. I saw Pocky (a Japanese snack) sold here. I really like the Roast Pork Banh Mi and Rice Platter and also the Original Pearl Milk Tea with soy milk instead of Half and Half. This is a great place to grab a bite for lunch or dinner. The portions are generous and the staff is bubbly. Get it? Bubble Tea? :D read more

I've had Banh Mi many many places. Its usually a great vegetarian option. Sadly, the tofu bahn mi here was the worst I've ever had. The tofu was barely seasoned and not prepped. It was also overly mayonaisy. It almost seemed fresh out of a package. The beau, however, said his pork was OK. However, the staff was friendly and they off free WiFi. Perhaps I'm spoiled from living in Philly but I've also had great bahn mi in Louisiana of all places. read more

Stopped in for Viet hoagie since I never just passing by it. I had ordered their top seller. It's just some BBQ meat and carrots and cilantro....for an extreme over price. Amazing vegetarian tofu Bahn mi sandwich! This place is consistent with their quality of food, that's why they get high marks from me. I used to come here all the time when I went to UD, back when they first opened, so coming back here today was a nostalgic trip down memory lane. They have great customer service, very courteous, and even gave me advice on where to buy fresh jackfruit and longans. Anyway, the only petit "critique" I would give is if they could please add more tofu to their sandwiches, it's just so juicy and flavorful! The vegan mayo is homemade and is a perfect touch to the soft, crispy baguette. The veggies are impeccably seasoned, the cilantro and jalapeños are fresh and never wilted. It was great to come back to this place and know that they still serve excellent food. I wish I could come down here more often, if only they delivered, lol read more

Had the lemongrass & tofu soup, was really delicious...also had the whole pho sandwich - which had a good crusty bread/roll, but there was barely any meat, lettuce or other ingredients. Don't know if they're trying to skimp on meat to save money, but it was not worth the $5.50. read more

You can't go wrong with banh mi. Go for the pork sandwiches here. Quick service, friendly staff. Higher priced than some banh mi places in other cities, but still cheaper than most places on main street. read more

Absolutely lovely people own and run the restaurant- so friendly and warm. The pork belly and spicy chicken Banh mi were delicious, perfection. Yummy boba and the best Vietnamese drip coffee I've had since leaving Los Angeles- rich, strong, creamy, the perfect way to start your day or get a quick pick-me-up. The restaurant is cute and inviting, not too fussy, and reminds me of my favorite family restaurants in LA. read more

This is the best sandwich I've ever eaten. Seriously. I've had great meatball subs, Reubens, turkey clubs, Italians, cheesesteaks, PB&Js, egg salad--you name it. The only sandwich that's even in the same conversation is Ms. Cindy's Italian from Ioannoni's, and even that is a close second. This chicken cheesesteak is a perfect 10/10. Why? * Flavor: Outstanding. Every bite is packed with flavor. * Seasoning: Perfectly seasoned. Nothing bland, nothing overpowering. * Cheese Ratio: Exactly how it should be. Every bite has cheese without drowning the sandwich. * Bread: Fresh and soft while still holding together from start to finish. * Moisture: This is what separates it from most chicken cheesesteaks. The chicken is incredibly moist and juicy without making the roll soggy. Most places treat a chicken cheesesteak like it's just a cheesesteak with chicken substituted in. Balboa doesn't. It feels like they actually designed the sandwich around the chicken instead of just replacing the beef. I even texted the owner after eating it because it was that good. I told him: "Flavor. Seasoning. Cheese ratio. Bread. Moist and juicy. God damn." That pretty much sums it up. If you've only ever ordered the regular cheesesteak from Balboa, do yourself a favor and try the chicken cheesesteak at least once. We kicked things off with edamame - simple and exactly what you'd expect (hard to mess that up). From there, we shared the chicken soup dumplings, which were loaded with broth and seasoned chicken. I always wonder how they manage to make those, but that's a mystery for another day. The vegetable spring rolls came out hot and crispy. They could've used more filling, but the thin wrapper made them extra crunchy, which I liked. Surprisingly, the star of the show wasn't the dumplings - it was the fried rice. Something about it just kept me going back for more. I'm usually not big on rice, but even my daughter said it was, in her words, "obnoxiously good." We also tried bubble tea (my daughter ordered it for me), and it was my first time having one with a fruity flavor inside the boba - "slamming" is the only way to describe it. Service-wise, the staff and hostess were polite and attentive throughout. Overall, I'd give The Ugly Dumpling a strong 4 out of 5. FYI - when you hit the bathroom, make sure you grab the hand soap and not the mouthwash like I did. When you go, you'll see what I mean, lol.

I was visiting a friend in DE and finally was able to stop by and try out Banh Mi Boy. I grew up in Philly and have been eating Banh Mi's for many years now (on and off...I crave it like at least once a week)...so I've had my fair share of Banh Mis from all the local Viet towns and Chinatowns (that's just about the only place you can get these). At first I was sceptical...seeing that there would be non-Asians making these Asian Sandwiches, but then I saw the Asian lady in the back...this is always a good sign. So...1st the positives, very comparable and maybe even better then the shops I've been to in Philly and New York. Everything tasted like it was made that day vs. who knows. My friend and I did splits on a Roast Pork and an Original and an order of the Summer Rolls. The Original tasted great and I felt that the veggies topping it off were extremely fresh! The Roast Pork on the other hand was exceptional! The Roast Pork itself tasted better then some of the Roast Pork you would find in some of the Chinatown Noodle shops (for those that know what I'm talking about). The roast pork itself was very lean and hardly had any fat on it at all. The Summer Rolls were exactly what I expected (this is good), because I've had Summer Rolls that are totally 'fake' and now-a-days, it seems like people are calling anything Summer Rolls...these were the real deal...they were nice and soft and the plum sauce for dipping was also perfect. The staff actually was good...and it felt like they knew what they were talking about regarding explaining the Banh Mis. The place felt clean and seemed like a spot you could just chill and hang out (i think one of the other comments said same thing)...which we did. The Cons....we did see a coconut lychee dessert, but wish they would sell a lot of the other great desserts that are sold in the philly, new york shops...and there are a lot of good ones. Other then that, we were extremely surprised and totally satisfied with our experience...will absolutely be back! read more

I agree with the points brought up by "Jenine B." and "Zack E." As a college student, I had to find out for myself. My girlfriend and I ordered the vegetarian sandwich. We were disappointed that there was very little sauce on and little substance to the sandwich. Since I am a starving college student and look to spend my money wisely, at first glance I thought Banh-mi-boy would have the price and substance from all the hype. For a sandwich around $5, I felt I did not get my money's worth. After our meal, my girlfriend and I went to the sub shop up the street to eat again! I don't care if the rolls come from Philadelphia every day and they are handmade with TLC (which is a plus), no substance = no business. However, I did find the staff to be very hospitable and the restaurant nice and clean. Perhaps one day I will return and try another item on the menu, but not the vegetarian tofu sandwich. read more

I was looking forward to eating at this new restaurant. I ordered the vegetarian sandwich and it was quite disappointing. There was not enough "meat" on the sandwich. It was all fluffy, puffy bread! I got ripped off because I just paid for a $5 fluffy, puffy roll! My friends were also with me, and didn't get half the ingredients on their sandwiches as advertised. Their juice is weird. It tastes like fruit cup juice...pure sugar and random pieces of pulp. Could you call the salad a salad? It was sprouts, tofu, and carrots, with a questionable dressing. read more

Haven't try my summer roll yet, I just don't understand why there's a service fee on to go order. Did the lady get paid while working there? ------------ Reply to the owner: stop calling it "service charge". You can just say you are charging for credit card fee to your customer when the fee is usually handled by the merchant. There's no sign about the credit fee in the store, the employee also didn't mention about this. I won't even know about this if I didn't take a look at the receipt. read more

Down right awful! I would give this place no stars. 1. Too expensive. (Downtown u can get half the price) 2. No flavor. 3. It isn't a real baguette. 4. Not authentic at all. 5. Not enough meat. 6. I love this banh mi cafe. Great prices, a variety of sandwiches and they're all really delicious. Fresh veggies, crispy warm baguettes with a soft interior and a good amount of meat in each sandwiches. Get a sandwich with a Vietnamese coffee and you'll be set for the day! read more
