Was a little disappointed today. I used to go there all the time but I moved out of hood however, I decided to go today and I was completely surprised. It looked like a corporate fast food chain! I was running some errands yesterday and in between purchasing K-Cup coffee pods at Bed Bath & Beyond and picking up clothes at the dry cleaner my stomach started growling at me. I decided to find a quick nosh. As I was scanning the vicinity I spied Banh Mi and peaked inside. It looked promising so I entered and placed an order. Banh Mi features a few different items but their signature dish is Vietnamese sandwiches. There are several kinds to choose from and I opted for the BBQ pork. It is made on a crispy piece of bread (resembling French bread) and loads of fixings. The sauce was really good; a nice mixture of tang and heat. Very good light meal/heavy snack for just $4.95. Banh Mi is a great option if you want something quick and in the price point of fast food, but desire something more tasty, healthy and sophisticated. While this is not the type of place you go out of your way to come to, if you are in the vicinity and are hungry it is a great option and I am sure I will be back before too long. read more

When the week of our rehearsal dinner our go to banh mi provider stated they would be unable to provide us sandwiches for our rehearsal dinner I hit a dead end. But after listening to some friends and Yelpers I found Banh Mi & Co and never looked back. Let me note that I was coming in on Thursday and asking for a large order to be delivered on Saturday night. "No problem." I was told and it really was a breeze. Upon my entrance into their no frills shop I sat down and tried to absorb their menu. Their menu descriptions do not do their sandwiches justice as I would soon find out. Lee came out and immediaetely began piling food in front of me. Veggie banh mi, lychee lemonade, veggie spring rolls, some soy milk that was sooooooooo good. Right off the bat the tofu and mushrooms in the banh mi won me over. So rich and hearty and not at all boring the way tofu can be. I could eat rolls of the bread alone. Soft with just a little crispness that didn't crumble into a million pieces when I bit into it. Everything was so good but I had to stop eating in order to fit into my wedding dress two days away. Lee was so kind and generous adding on extras to everything I ordered. He even snuck in some spring rolls into the bag of BBQ banh mi for my fiance though I told him not to! In the end, out of a room of 60 people, some who are VERY VERY picky, everyone ate the sandwiches and spring rolls and was happy. I was very happy with the end result and my mother was pleased to have extra sandwiches to serve after the wedding. I was even surprised after the honeymoon that my mother had frozen one or two and they warmed up perfect. :) Here we are two weeks after the wedding and last night when we were at my mom's for dinner my now husband asked "are any of those sandwiches left?" So I stopped by to Banh Mi & Co for lunch today since I was in the neighborhood. It was my second time here; last time I got the shredded chicken banh mi and ice coffee. Both were good (looove Vietnamese/Thai-style ice coffee! and BM&C did not disappoint ;D ), but the chicken wasn't really memorable (or maybe I doused too much sriracha for spice). Today, I got the lemongrass chicken banh mi. The spicy, citrus-y kick from the chicken was very tasty! I love heat + peppers, but not a huge fan of sriracha, so the chicken coupled with the jalepenos sufficed. I also love their bread. It's less airy than Ba Le's bread, but definitely had that signature crunch that I seek in a banh mi. It's a little tight in space, but there weren't too many people sitting around for lunch when I've come here so seating wasn't a problem. The only down side is it's a bit slow, but if you're not coming here on a time crunch (i.e. on your lunch break), I totally recommend trying the place! It will be my go-to sammy joint when I'm in the area (like 2x a week lol). read more

Nice service, the cook offered for us to try anything although we didn't take him up on it. Recommend take out: the space is not well arranged, with tiny narrow wood shelves to eat on with stools. Nothing special about the decor which is fine if the food is good. I was just walking back from the ATM and noticed their simple menu outside (figured it had to be somewhat good if they're focused on a few key items). I was also wondering why they had a handful of already prepared and wrapped spring rolls by the counter - it's because they're so delicious and people get them almost every other order. The cashier lady is sweet and very pleasant to talk to. *Word of advice, you get surcharged for using a credit card here, so if you care about paying a little less, bring cash. Since this place is very new, they are offering samples of their pork roll and pate sandwich. The menu is cute, showing silhouettes of the animals you are about to eat (maybe considered cruel by some, lol) instead of listing them. Pretty yummy, but I decided to try the lemongrass chicken because one of the employees recommended it. The ingredients are fresh and the sandwiches are tasty. The cilantro really adds to the flavor. The sandwiches are only $4.85 and they offer a combo for an extra $2 that includes a spring roll or chips and a can of pop or bottle of water. I asked for an iced tea instead, which I assumed would be fine since they are the same price, but apparently they normally don't allow it but said they would since it was my first time there. Since it is the same price, I think they should consider allowing it on a regular basis. Overall, this place seems like a good addition to the Lakeview neighborhood, and it's a nice alternative to traveling up further north to Ba Le. read more

Finally got a chance to stop in here. I noticed it a while back when I was passing by to meet a friend at New Tokyo (also a great place to eat). For a little over 8 bucks I got a big bowl of wonton soup, a pork roll Bahn mi and a soda. The wonton soup had huge dumplings in it. It was really delicious. What I was really happy about was the pork roll Bahn mi. When I heard that it had head cheese I thought I might have made a huge mistake. However, my first bite proved quite the opposite. This place is one of my favorite banh mi sandwich shops in the city (along with Nhu Lan). I usually order the pork roll or the bbq pork and like them both. With banh mi, the things I usually look for are the freshness and crispness of the bread, the meat taste and quality, and the vegetable toppings. The bread is very good (maybe not as good as Nhu Lan's but still good). The meat is tasty and good quality. And the vegetables (carrots, cucumber, daikon, cilantro) are very fresh. I also have to agree with some of the other reviewers that this place has some of the best wonton soup I've ever had. For me, the soup is all about the broth which just has a lot of flavor, but the wontons are very good too although they do tend to fall apart fast. All in all though some of the best wonton soup I've had. read more

Great new place in Lakeview! The vietnamese sandwiches are delicious, great service, and very affordable. My husband and I were walking by and decided to take a look. The owner offered us a sample at first and made recommendations of his fave Banh Mi. I am vegetarian and had the curry seitan which was great and I was pleasantly surprised to find 3 veggie sandwich options. My husband had the BBQ and was in love. We ate at the high-top bar and when we were almost finished, the owner gave us a sample of a coconut/sesame treat to finish off and it was a total of $11 for both of us! I tried the Banh mi and the pho at this place. The Bahn Mi is good and the pho isn't that great. I give this place 2 stars because the service was also not that great. I asked for extra jalapeños on my sandwich which they didn't add extra and when I went back to the counter and asked for extra they were like "we already put it in your sandwich." The bread is soft and crisp which bread makes all the difference. The Pho was not good, tbh you're better off going to uptown for Pho. Seems like this place has changed owners over the years. The food has always been solid but the service has gone down hill. I went there on a Sunday around 6pm and ordered a papaya salad and a small wonton soup. There were 4 workers run around the kitchen, appearing to be busy but no one's order was being filled. After 20 minutes I was asked what I ordered. He then repeated my order to the kitchen to begin making it. A salad does not need to be cooked and the soup just needed to be put in a container. I could tell other customers were getting frustrated as well. I asked for a refund and they didn't even apologize. Good food, horrible service. read more

I asked a replacement spoon and it was even worse. :( ewwwwww. I really didn't look close to my bowl cuz I know I'll see something disgusting and I would throw up. About the food....we ordered beef pho and spring rolls. The pho was not great, the broth tasted just salty and nothing else. Beef was very dry And the noodles which is the most important part in pho was definitely way over cooked. I felt like eating noodles that was soaked for hours. The portion of the food was little, which was kinda good in this case so I didn't feel bad about wasting food. And the spring rolls......the yellow and brown-ish lettuce wrapped in there seems like was from last week, the peanut sauce was probably the most acceptable thing in the whole meal, well it was just fine.... I am updating my review to give acknowledgement that when I went back in two weeks later and the regular staff was working they were apologetic and sympathetic to my complaint. Knowing first hand what my normal order is - and what I was given in error - they comped my next lunch which I very much appreciated. However they will not get a fourth star out of me because after leaving the yelp review I followed up and left a message for the manager at the corporate office location. No one ever called me back.
