Have not tried their sandwiches but have had their pho and it is pretty good. Last time I definitely got way too many noodles for the amount of broth which made the pho pretty thick. Ended up throwing out some of the noodles. My favorite are probably the spring rolls with shrimp, always very fresh and tasty, highly recommend adding them to your meal. I would walk by this shop and it always smelled so good, so yesterday, I stopped here for lunch. I had the Saigon classic sandwich, which had ham, pate, pork, carrots, cucumbers, cilantro, jalapenos, black pepper, mayo, and some sort of Thai bbq on a warm baguette. Yum!! I love this sandwich. My boyfriend loves this place. I've never been in the restaurant, instead experienced them as takeout and at the Lakeview Arts Festival. Perhaps I'm just not a fan of deli meats, but the mix of meats and spices aren't for me. I'd be much happier with more veggies on the sandwiches. I've had three different sandwiches here and have solidified my opinion. The iced coffee was good, however. Ordered through Postmates and did a few bogo deals. I love banh mi sammies, but if this was my first one, I wouldn't be impressed. Portion was smaller than I'm used to getting at other places, and the jalapeños pieces were huge chunks. This banh mi was just basic. And almost no filling in the crab Rangoon. Different take on Sandwiches probably because their pickled carrots/veggies that comes with it, is distinctive it's both sweet and a touch sour. The 2 I would happily recommend is the Saigon special and the BBQ Pork. I also really like the Shrimp Spring Rolls. The other meat Spring Rolls they have doesn't quite translate to me as Spring Rolls. The Beef Pho and the papaya salad is fine. This place is good enough that in one of my early experiences the cashier could not give me a recommendation on ANYTHING! she likes, which tells me either she doesn't eat the food there or she doesn't care to give an endorsement of the establishments offering both a worrying proposition. It was early for dinner on a Sunday afternoon but I was starving. We were walking down Broadway and popped our heads into here to check out the menu and ended up staying! Although I consider myself an omnivore, my friend is vegan so I'm always on the lookout for good food that also happens to be vegan. And this place had quite a few vegetarian/vegan options which we were surprised about. We both opted for the lemongrass tofu sandwich per the recommendations of guy ringing us up and boy were those sandwiches good. Huge baguette filled with deliciously seasoned tofu with pickled carrots, daikon, cucumber, jalapeños, and cilantro. All the flavors complemented each other wonderfully. Overall I'm definitely satisfied with my meal here and I know I will definitely be back. For $8 plus tip, it was a delicious sandwich. Note: there isn't a ton of seating here. Just a counter against the front window and a counter against the side wall. Not a bunch of seating but it's there if you want it. They seem to do a decent amount of takeout though. read more

We let the server know that one of our chicken dumplings was still half frozen and she just kinda walked away. Didn't say or do much. I ordered takeout from this restaurant. I just had the Saigon Classic special sandwich (banh mi). It was pretty good! Despite ordering it for dinner, I found that the ingredients were still fresh (aka bread was not stale or anything). I personally would still prefer banh mi from restaurants in Argyle (Uptown) since the quality of banh mi there is much richer in flavor and texture. However, it definitely does a good job of satiating my craving for banh mi whenever I'm too lazy to make a trip to Uptown. Brought a date here last night. That was a mistake. The place was completely empty. There were staff in the back kitchen but no one up front. They have a kiosk to order through, which is fine. Some of the tables has used tissues/napkins on them, so they should pay a little more attention to that. The food was ok, but the namesake of the place was disappointing. The bread was like a bratwurst roll that they toasted. If you mess up the bread on a banhmi, then what are you doing? My date and I ordered two banh mi, spring rolls, and the soup dumplings. The sandwiches and spring rolls came out quickly. The soup dumplings came out after we were done with our meal. About 45 minutes into our meal a homeless person came in and just started asking patrons for money. He stood around for about 10 minutes because no one working there told him to leave. The place doesn't smell pleasant at all. Although the appearance is very clean. I ordered pho which seemed that it would be their speciality, but obviously wasn't! I barely had noodles, uncooked carrots, no bean sprouts and the sprint rolls looked like a toddler made them! The spring rolls had more noodles than the pho. Only issue here is veggies was way too light. Tofu bahn mi not bad, but too light on veggies. Wifey likes chicken rice soup. Plain and simple, good for the cold or if not too hungry. Was really in the mood for some warm pho in this cold Chicago weather and there are veryyyy few Vietnamese restaurants in Chicago unless you travel up to Vietnamese town. Found this place on Google Maps and decided to give it a try. Granted, their name is Banh Mi so they're probably more known for their sandwiches and I'd come back here to try those because they looked good and were reasonably priced. What I did try were two different soups and I wasn't that much of a fan. I had the traditional vietnamese pho and I honestly didn't see what was very traditional about it. I've had much better broth, and the broth is everything when it comes to pho. The broth was kind of salty and just tasted like chicken broth from a package- it seemed to lack the traditional pho spices and any flavor or depth. Traditional pho also comes with different noodles (not the ones this one came with) and thin slices of raw beef that you further cook in the broth. This beef was like...pulled beef and it was really dry and tasteless. As for the chicken broth, it really wasn't anything special either. This soup was even saltier than mine and it was a rather sad portion of dry chicken breast with rice and broth that seemed to be pre-packaged. I go to Vietnamese restaurants for pho because the amount of ingredients and time it takes to make this particular broth is extensive and it's something I can't really easily make on my own. But to me this didn't taste like a good pho soup. I would come back here to try the sandwiches because they are decently priced but the noodles and soups were a disappointment. read more

Used to love this place with the original owners a couple years ago but quality has really taken a tumble since their departure. I ordered takeout and got my usual order of a grilled bahn mi ($7.95) and paid for extra meat ($2.50). I open the sandwich and it barely looks like there's less meat than even a normal serving (see photo)! Either they really do just add barely anything and charge the $2.50 or they overlooked that part of the food ticket and forgot (I'm hoping that it's the latter). To make the experience even worse, I ordered Thai iced tea ($3.95) and the only way I could describe it is a lukewarm orange colored cup of cream and sugar. Not even a hint of tea or the spices that your tastes buds immediately notice when you drink Thai iced tea. Utterly disappointed and I think it's time to stop spending my money here. Do yourself a favor and take the short trip to Argyle for an authentic bahn mi sandwich. I'm sorry guys but the $15 I spent on this meal would have been much more enjoyable elsewhere. read more

This place is located in the bustling area of Lakeview, where you can find food from many different cultures. I called in my order and walked over from where I was staying. The place was busy inside, with 3 or 4 others waiting to pick up their food and 2 other couples dining in. I had Bahn Mi for dinner and it was not too bad. I decided to try the Pho, shrimp spring rolls, and pork bahn mi. I ate the bahn mi on the drive home, and it was so delicious. The bread was fresh and the veggies were really earthy. I tried the spring rolls for the first time, and I did not like the texture of the rolls. I tried biting into the spring roll and all I could taste is air and Mother Earth. The spring rolls had no real flavor. The Pho was okay. I tried the beef Pho, and I could not get past the shredded beef. I'd rather had vegetarian pho than the beef. Overall all, the Pho hit the spot. I got full rather quickly, so I wonder if Pho is prepared with MSG. I will plan to visit this location again, but only for the bahn mi. I may decide to try the chicken pho, but I'll never order the spring rolls (yuck). read more

I like Banh Mi! I think their sandwiches are very fresh, the baguette has a nice "shell" and the bread is soft on the inside. I also like that the bread to filling ratio is good, it never feels like you're biting into too much bread or too much filling. Plus, the banh mis are flavorful. read more

The Banh Mi was flavored nicely, the bread not too crispy to slice the roof of your mouth like other places tend to make. There was an 'ok' amount of meat, with the perfect amount of pate! Sauces and veggies were fresh and aromatic. The spring rolls were a little more loosely wrapped than I am used to, but the had an adequate amount of ingredients (3 shrimps per roll). The bread was toasted for about 45 secs which definitely gave it a crunch appeal. The meat was pretty minimal as all the other reviews stated, but even though it was a small amount it was very good. The sandwich was a little over $5 so I guess I can't complain too much, plus it only took a few minutes to be ready for consumption. Right on price point, not too expensive ($4.95 for bahn mis). Sure, you could find cheaper way up north but this is a great spot nevertheless. Plus, the owner was soo friendly. I got the chicken curry bahn mi. The menu is very simple with pork with pate (I tried a sample, not bad!), beef, seitan, and of course the chicken curry. They serve spring rolls and noodles in whatever combo you want. The bread was crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside--not stale at all. The curry was perfectly spicy, and all of the usual other components were there. Simple and fresh. The storefront is very tiny but equally clean. Free siracha packets to go! It's a small space with a counter where you order food, the menu on a chalk board, and a couple of tables + a counter where you can sit. It's clean and cozy. I had the Lemongrass Chicken sandwich which I would definitely recommend. The bread is crunch, chewy and delicious. The salad inside is flavorful (and very peppery, which I love but some might not), and the chicken was well flavored and soft. It was on the spicy side, be warned. I took the jalapenos out. I would definitely get the Vietnamese Iced Coffee. I thought it was awesome. Not too sweet, strong coffee flavor, well crushed ice, and a good coffee to ice ratio. My friend ordered the beef Pho. It was quite peppery, but not bad for the price. Large portion, too. The meat was shredded and the noodles were very well cooked (not too soft, not too chewy). I stopped in to take a look and despite having just closed, they offered to make a sandwich for me regardless! When I said I'd just stopped by for a quick sample (which they had unfortunately just run out of), they offered a free shrimp spring roll (which was great w/ the peanut sauce) instead!
