Stopped by this small strip mall and found Banzai sushi. This place is a division of Samurai Sushi House on Cambie street which means the sushi is mega-big. I ordered the salmon and tuna sashimi and the scallop roll. The restaurant did not disappoint. The roll was huge and the sashimi was a big portion. This place isn't fancy, but it's price point and quantity makes it a great deal! Only down side is that parking may be limited at busy times and they only take cash.

This was one of the places people raved about online so I was very excited to try their giant sushi (all of their individual sushi pieces are supposedly gigantic). I called ahead to order Party Tray D which was honestly way too much for 4 people. It could probably feed 6-7 people comfortably and everyone would still be incredibly full. Next time for 4 people I would probably just order the Party Tray B. Also there's a discount if you order a day early which I would recommend. Here are some of my favorite pieces on the tray: - Chopped Scallop - This was actually so good. The scallop was incredibly tender and went very well with the fish roe (tobiko). The amount of scallops they put on one sushi is also kind of insane as at least 1/2 of the height of the sushi was just scallops. - Tuna Roll - I really appreciate the small tuna rolls as the tuna was incredibly fresh and went well with the rice. I think the large tuna sashimi is a bit much as the piece of fish is a bit too large to enjoy it alone unlike the smaller rolls. - House Roll - The house roll was the biggest sushi roll I've ever seen for real. It was the size of my palm. I really appreciate how many ingredients there was in this roll and that you can see how fresh everything is. I especially appreciate the avocado as well as the imitation crab salad which honestly was on the better imitation crabs I've had. Overall, honestly a very good meal for an extremely cheap price. Honestly, would get the rolls more than the sashimi itself and also underestimate how much you can eat because after 3 or 4 pieces essentially you will be full. Also, they are cash only!

I placed an online order through Uber Eats on Dec 23... for pick up on Dec 24 5:30pm. I want to mention- this was intended to be a gift to my uncle/auntie for Eve dinner. I happened to check UBER EATS and it showed the order was cancelled at 5:10pm. I want to mention that I never received a phone call about the cancellation. So, I called at 5:30pm to follow up. The lady said it's ready and to come pick up. My uncle went to pick up and as of 6:30pm - they do not have my order ready. They said they are too busy so they cancelled my order. I have never encountered anything like this. I'm not a business person but I do not think this is good business practice. Way to ruin someone's Christmas Eve. Happy Holidays to you and hope you do better next time. I wouldn't know because I WILL NEVER PATRONIZE YOUR ESTABLISHMENT AGAIN.

Ordered this party tray for friends gathering! Their portion are as HUGE as always!!!! Those sizes are impressive and you will never forget to order this for party, cause everyone will be satisfied for sure! For the sashimi, not really recommended as you can tell they are not really fresh compare to other Japanese restaurants. Anyway, it's good to order their sushi and for parties!

Banzai is cash only. Something interesting happened during my meal: upon finishing the sashimi, I found a small moving bug on the plate. I informed the staff, and they promptly replaced the affected piece and even gave me an extra one. It's possible that the bug came from either the radish or salmon sashimi, but I didn't investigate further as it all happened so quickly. I've been to a couple of Samurai Sushi locations and to Banzai a few times. While Samurai on Fraser has the biggest sashimi cuts out of them all, the seating at Banzai is more spacious and enjoyable. Most people ordered takeout, and we didn't need reservations on a Saturday at 1:30 pm. Food-wise, the prices have increased quite a bit. I remember the 9-piece salmon sashimi being $11.50 or $12.50, but now it's $17.55! Salmon sashimi (9 pieces) $17.55. Rating 7/10. The slices are thin, not as thick as other places, and the salmon doesn't have the "meaty" taste it used to. Usually, salmon sashimi comes in different cuts, and you can taste the difference as certain cuts have a firmer, meatier taste while others just melt in your mouth. Also, the radish is chopped into smaller pieces rather than shredded into long noodles. These are placed underneath the sashimi and edible. Maki combo A (tuna roll, salmon roll, and California roll) $10.95. Rating 7/10. The seaweed on the salmon and tuna rolls is tough and hard to chew, while the California roll is very loose and falls apart once picked up with chopsticks. The unagi roll $6.75. Rating 8/10. The flavors are there, and the unagi is served warm in the roll, but the roll is very loose and falls apart once picked up with chopsticks.

I've gone to Samurai my whole undergrad life and this place I think is a branch of it. Yes, they use a lot of rice.. but they also use a lot of fish. So it balances out in the end. Each nigiri is basically 2x rice and 2x thickness of sashimi. I got the Alaska roll which is huge and has lots of toppings inside. Samon is fresh and they even top it off with tobiko and not the cheaper, masago. You can see there isn't much rice on this roll so it js perfect. I also got salmon nigiri and toro nigiri. From what I remember, their regular tuna didnt taste that great. Their salmon, however always tastes good. The toro is also good but not as fatty as higher end places. For the price, it is worth.

When I was in university, Samurai Sushi on Cambie Street was one of my favourite places for food. Huge portions and affordability were all that really mattered on a student income (and even now after, to be honest!). So when I discovered that there was a sister-store of sorts, I was excited to try out the humongous sashimi sushi rolls again. I got a variety that day for my mom's birthday lunch. - Salmon sashimi - Prawn tempura - Toro nigiri - Unagi roll - Chopped scallop roll - Smoked salmon roll - Avocado roll The rolls were huge. Not the freshest seafood, but you can't really expect much considering the price and portions. The prawn tempura was crispy, but a bit too much batter. The avocado was just ripe. If you want no-frills sushi at a great bang for your buck, I recommend this place to satisfy your craving. If you order 2 hours or 1 day ahead of time for take out, you get discounts.

Don't get their pressed sushi. Not worth it. Shown above is their smoked salmon pressed sushi

If you're looking for decent quality sushi for a great deal, this is the place to go to. The sister restaurant of Vancouver's Samurai Sushi, who is known for sushi as big as your palm, Banzai stays true to its roots. They're most well known for their salmon sashimi, and one piece of fish is about double the size compared to any other place. Fish is always fresh. Portions are huge. I usually get either the appetizer sashimi (3pc tuna 2pc salmon) or their tuna salmon sashimi (5pc each). It's a deal that's hard to beat! Also highly recommend their futomaki (the sweet shiitake mushrooms coupled with the yellow pickled radish is a delicious combination!) as well as their house roll. I know some people complain about the amount of rice, but when you compare it to the amount of fish you get, it's really not a lot of rice at all! The one thing I would not recommend is their pressed sushi (see photos) but quite honestly, if you're looking to eat some fancy oshi/aburi, this is not going to be the kind of place you're looking for anyway. Been a regular for years, and every so often, I still like to visit! Tip: Takeout orders placed the day before get 10% off. Orders placed 2h in advance get 5% off!

If you want cheap filling sushi Banzai is your perfect choice! Their sushi rolls are huge and you'll be definitely full after eating their food. The best part is their big cheap sashimi slices, yum! Sushi Rolls were big as well. I had Combo A ($8) that comes with Cali Roll,Tuna and Salmon it was big enough for one person. I enjoyed their food because it was more quantity than quality, and it was cheap and delicious. I think their food is on par with Samurai for huge rolls and sashimi. Not the best sushi place, but you'll save money for sure. *Cash only*

Under 40 bucks for all this.

All this food for less than 40 bucks I paid exactly 40 including tips. More than enough to feed 3 very hungry ppl. For the same amount of money, you can't get this anywhere else in Vancouver or Richmond. This is how you run a restaurant. Take notes ppl.

The food is not too salty and the broth was perfectly seasoned for my palate. My boyfriend also ordered an espresso romano which I had never tried before. The foam on top was surprisingly refreshing with a tart aftertaste of lime. The prices were also very fair with most sets averaging around $19-20 before tax. You order at the counter and pay after you're finished. This is a great place for a quick bite especially if you're in the Ironwood area of Richmond.

It's cool you can grind the sesame and have a choice of dipping in mayo or katsu sauce. Also, we added an egg for $2 (half egg, ripoff, skip skip), and hotate (scallop) - nicely battered, fresh, and sweet. I'd recommend eating the cheese katsu first thing to fully enjoy the melted cheese texture. The pork katsu is solid - the meat is quite juicy. The shrimp is huge and fresh. I docked a star off because of the service. The place is small and it's Japanese food so I expected a bit better service. When we chose to share the set, they called out they won't honor unlimited cabbage, rice, and soup, unless we specifically order 2 sets, despite us ordering extras that are close to the price of the cheapest set. Also, it takes a while to flag down a server to refill the hot tea. It's still a decent experience, but I would've been unhappy if I waited more than 30 minutes for a table because while the katsu is delicious, it's not impressive compared to other katsu spots to wait such a long time.

It was kind of tasteless to me, and the servers suggested not having it with soy sauce, but my friends said it actually tasted better with soy sauce. As for the hand rolls, they were pretty good; my favorites were the toro and the truffle lobster, which is more unique and not something I usually see at other hand roll bars. Service was generally quite good, with our waters and ginger being refilled. We were also offered an explanation of the menu when we were seated as it was our first time dining here. However I feel like the wait time between rolls was a bit of a let down. Similar to some other hand roll bars I've been to, it seems like the order in which parties were served was kind of random. For example, other parties would get 2-3 hand rolls in a row before we got one. Also, even within my party, 2 people got 2 hand rolls in a row before I even got one. It was a bit strange and I wish the service was a bit more balanced. Pricing was also on the higher side - the hand rolls aren't super big so even a 6 set hand roll ($39) didn't leave me feeling completely full.
