I ordered a bunch of sushi rolls with my family because I was craving sushi. Tokyo joe is pretty affordable, although prices have gone up a bit for to inflation. :( Overall the sushi was ok. Alaska roll was my favorite. But we were disappointed with the dynamite roll. We had ordered 2 and although the rolls were gigantic, they were filled with lots of imitation crab meat, some cucumbers and only had one shrimp tempera that was a bit soggy. There was no avocado and if they made the roll smaller, it might taste more balanced.

Worst oshi sushi I have ever had. Not coming back. This more like a fast food place. Too many sushi rolls with lots of rice.

We came here on a recommendation and we're so grateful we did. The fish is incredibly fresh, the staff were so friendly and welcoming, and the rolls were amazing! We are experienced PNW sushi eaters and considered this to be some of the best sushi and nigiri we've had. It's clear this is a local favorite; in the hour we were there the owner welcomed multiple customers by name. 10 out of 10!

Great Sushi Spot! Affordable prices, fresh sushi, and friendly service. Highly recommend!

This was a picnic experience with friends at a nearby park. We figured sushi is good picnic food, so we got some takeouts from Tokyo Joes. We got a DX spicy combo, Unagi don and my friend got a combo with miso soup, chicken teriyaki, and a California roll. They were fast and the presentation of the food was nice. (Photo ready) considering they are in takeout boxes. The portions were very decent, particularly the unagi don. I haven't had that in a while and most places nowadays are skimping down on the fish. These guys however were quite generous with the amount they lay on the rice. Flavoring for both the Don and the Sushi was good. The DX combo came with some spicy tuna sashimi, tuna roll, nigitoro roll, and they pretty much just covered everything with a bit of that spicy mayo. It's their quick and dirty way of making everything "spicy" but I don't mind that, it worked for me. Overall, I've enjoyed the meal. Definitely a great option for budget sushi in Richmond. One thing to note tho, they don't have a proper website with a recent menu these days, so when you search for these guys, Doordash and Skip will be the first things that pop up. If you are planning to pick those up anyways, call their store directly instead of going through the app. Pricing is like 5-10% cheaper that way. Food 9 Service 8 Ambiance N/A Value 10

Tokyo Joe's is a Korean-run sushi restaurant in the heart of Richmond that offers a variety of dishes at moderate price points. This is not my go-to sushi place, but I order from them once in a while for convenience since they have really quick service. You can typically walk in to place your order and be out the door in 10-15 minutes. The food is mediocre at best and reminiscent of Japanese food you might find in your local grocery stores (like PriceSmart next door, although personally I find PriceSmart's sushi/sashimi to be of better quality). The sushi rolls are packed rather loosely and and fall apart once you pick them up, so you have to be careful when eating them. As for the sashimi quality, do not expect the best quality cuts. All that aside, this is a decent choice to fulfill your Japanese cravings if you are in the area but there are better food options nearby.

I went here on July7th (Saturday) for a lunch and Yelp showed me Tokyo Joe in Richmond so I went there. Although I thought TJS is owned by Chinese owners, turns out this is Korean owned sushi place. So I ordered TJ Combo 1 ($12.95) that came with Cali Roll with 5pcs of Sashimi. Food was satisfying; however nothing special about it for the price and the taste. I kinda wished I had more for that price. I should've ordered something else or go to another sushi place in my personal opinion. I liked the free Miso soup for my food though. Service was fast.

Always such a pleasure coming by! The people and the atmosphere is simply enjoyable! The food is always so amazing! We've been coming by for around a year and each time we visit, they never disappoint but instead keep getting better! The service is so quick and the food is so fresh! Applause to the owner for keeping up such amazing work!

If you've got a sushi craving you just can't shake, then look no further cause Tokyo Joe's got you covered. Support this local business! For what it is, this place has pretty much everything you could expect of a simple sushi joint. Operated by a full staff of friendly Koreans, Tokyo Joe offers a wide variety of the tried and true Japanese dishes at an affordable price and with decent quality. Some of the items I've ordered in the past: Crazy Roll - very good, tasty Red Dynamite Roll - good portion size Tuna and Salmon Combo - very good value, large nigiri sushi, good quality salmon Maki Combo A - good value, large portions One of the things that immediately stood out to me about Tokyo Joe's sushi was the portion sizes for the items I ordered. For all four items above, I paid about $50.00 including taxes and tips. For feeding two or three people, that's not bad at all! The nigiri sushi sizes were almost on par with what you'd find at Samurai Sushi or Banzai Sushi - they were extraordinarily larger than normal. Also, the Red Dynamite Roll pieces were so large they could barely fit in my mouth. Portions aside, it only took them 15 minutes to prepare my order! None of my rolls fell apart while eating so that's a testament to how Tokyo Joe works with speed, but doesn't sacrifice presentation. If I could give half-stars, my real review would be to give 4.5 stars to Tokyo Joe. For me, the tuna in the sushi I ordered were too fishy-tasting. I also want to point out that, while I was ordering for pick-up over the phone, the server answering my call hung up the phone near the end of our conversation before I was finished speaking, probably because she thought I wasn't going to add any more comments after stating my order. I thought it was a tiny bit rude, but I'm sure she didn't mean it so I can let it slide. In person, service was friendly and on-point! Overall, a great place to get sushi in Richmond if you're on a budget. Plenty of parking in the back btw!

Cheap and delicious! One of the hidden gems in Richmond in my opinion. You can get a filling meal (ex: spicy combo) for less than $12 (incl tax and tip). Service is really fast. Everytime i call in to order take-out they'll be ready for me in 15 minutes. Free parking at Staples nearby. Sushi rolls are great. However was not a huge fan of their takoyaki (a bit soggy)

This a decent sushi place. Ambience: 2/5 This place seems like a quick grab and go place or slightly themed lunch room. Food: 3/5 Decent flavours, a roll I recommend is the unagi roll. Presentation is cute, the sushi is okay. Mouth feel was pretty good for sushi. Mango was very stringy, rice is okay, the special rolls have great flavour combos especially the Tokyo Joe and the Super Spicy tuna roll should go easier on the sauce on the roll though, but still cute. Service: 2.5/5 I felt slightly judged by one of the service staff because as I was ordering she told me that I ordered enough. I had to insist on getting my other rolls as well. Other staff was nice and food came out quick. Worth: 2.5/5 It was nice trying a new place but for the price and the side of judgement I shall not go back

came here for a quick bite today and left satisfied. its a small mom and pop shop that tries its best to please customers and go above and beyond. portions are huge and prices affordable. taste is average..but at least fresh and will leave you satisfied. ordered salmon sashimi , beef teri rolls and smoked salmon rolls. sashimi pieces were huge. good marbling and very tender. no fishy smell so you know its not been sitting around too long. plus biz here is brisk...many take outs and dine -ins so turnover is good. beef teri rolls were big too. so tasty and filling. same for the smoked salmon rolls. i just wanted a quick snack and this place filled the spot. bonus: if u dine-in, unlimited miso soup! wow! servers very very attentive! whatever you needed came really quick. they made you feel very welcome and made sure you had everything you need. 1 thing to note is that when you get the bill, they will automatically tack on a 15% gratuity, but then tell you its not mandatory, but will ask you if this is ok. lol! some may find this condescending and offensive, but hey...i'll leave that to our dear readers and eaters! i would come back to take out for sure. cheers! happy eating!!

Tokyo Joe is one of our go-to place for sushi in Richmond. It's conveniently located and lots of food choices. You can choose to dine in or take out. We used to dine in more often, enjoy their self served miso soup, but lately with a kid we prefer to take out and eat at the comfort of home. The rolls are always freshly made. We love the rolls with crispy noodles on top and eel inside (forgot what it's called). They have lots of variety as well, including lots of vegetarian options. I also like their nigiri sushi, can always expect fresh ingredients from them. Price is right for the quality and taste. Must try! :)

The staffs/owner were very friendly and made great recommendations. Had the hamachi carpaccio, so refreshing and appetizing. The homemade ponzu (lemony) sauce has a nice finish with thin sliced onions and veggies. The Engawa Arburi nigiri was recommended, and it was phenomenal. It is the 'fin edge' of flounder. Super delicate, with seared (arburi) flavor and melts in your mouth. Yum! The other highlight was the Wagyu beef cubes severed on stick. Two skewers 4 cubes each. The Wagyu was perfectly cooked. It melts in your mouth with every bite. We also enjoyed the 7 piece Omakase sushi set. The fish was very fresh and satiating. Love the lotus root chips garnishing. We loved everything we had but would likely skip the Omakase appetizer Platter. Perhaps we were spoiled by the hamachi carpaccio appetizer. We still enjoyed it but For the same price, we would prefer the sushi set. It had 9 small plates in a beautiful serving box including- tiny sashimi cube of salmon, tuna, tamago, and my fav is the komochi nishin (herring fillets ("Nishin") layered over a base of crunchy capelin roe), also included in the tiny plates of apps were, chicken karaage, baby taco, sliced taco, taco in red sauce, and seaweed salad. We look forward to be back!!!!!

We sat in a separate section of the restaurant with 3 tables at the front. We ordered chicken wings, assorted tempura, miso black cod and an order of beef teriyaki that was not on the menu. The servings are very small for the prices charged. We found that the chicken wings (only 4 small wings) $9.50 were a bit dry. The tempura batter was not as crisp or crunchy as we've had. The miso black cod was a very small portion - maybe 4 oz. for $18.00. We did not feel that there was value for the money. The food was average and the prices were too high for the quality and amount of food received. We did not enjoy the anime that was playing and we were glad that we were not sitting in the main dining room. Overall, we feel that there are better options for a Japanese meal.

We arrived around 2 PM for our reservation and were greeted warmly right away, which made for a great first impression. The restaurant itself is beautiful. The bamboo divider running through the middle of the space gave it a cozy, modern Japanese-inspired feel, and the overall atmosphere was probably my favorite part of the experience. As for the food, unfortunately it didn't quite live up to the hype for me. I ordered the seafood sizzler bowl, and while it wasn't bad by any means, it felt underwhelming for the price. The bowl was mostly rice, with a few small prawns, tiny scallops, a little roe, and some crab mixed in. I was expecting something more seafood-forward, so it ended up feeling more like a deconstructed fried rice than the premium dish I had envisioned. Same with the unagi bowl, couple small pieces of unagi cut up... The appetizers were actually the highlight of the meal and ended up being more memorable than my main course. I kept waiting for a dish to really wow me, but nothing stood out enough to make me crave a return visit. Maybe I just ordered the wrong items, because I know this place has plenty of fans. Overall, I'm glad I tried it, but based on this visit, I don't see myself making a special trip back.
