This place always seems popular with the locals -- and for good reason. Quality and affordable sushi is a dangerous combo... if I lived here, my wallet would be in trouble. - Party Tray A (34 pieces) -- Dynamite Roll (6pcs), California Roll (8pcs), Tuna Roll (6pcs), Salmon Roll (6pcs), plus Salmon, Tuna, Ebi, and Chopped Scallop Nigiri (2pcs each). Excellent variety and perfect for 2-3 people. My favorites were the salmon and tuna nigiri. Incredible value for ~$26 CAD. - Salmon Sashimi -- a bit of salmon skin on one piece (maybe a rough cut), but still tasty with soy sauce. - Oyster Motoyaki -- baked oysters topped with Japanese mayo and miso. My friend didn't realize it would come with cheese (a menu note would help!), but still a savory and tasty dish. - Spider Roll -- soft shell crab, cucumber, avocado, lettuce/masago. Fun spiderweb sauce design and a great crunchy bite. - Black Dragon Roll -- crab meat, cucumber, avocado inside; unagi, avocado, tobiko, bonito sauce on top. My personal favorite -- unagi + avocado + rice never fails. - Assorted Sushi Combo -- Tuna, Salmon, Ebi, Tako, Hokkigai, Ika, Chopped Scallop, Masago (1pc each) + half Tuna Roll + half Salmon Roll. This is my go-to Korean owned/run Japanese restaurant. Food is very good and reasonably priced. Service has always been excellent and food comes out fast. The only thing that does not check my last box....ambiance. There's an older gentleman, who we assumed is the owner, hovering between our table and the food expedite counter in the way of the operation. I've tasted better from other sushi restaurants owned by Chinese, Korean or Vietnamese. My gauge was the chicken karaage. One can get away with the sushi rolls as it is pretty much using standard ingredients like kani, masago, mangoes, avocados etc but the real test comes from how the chicken is marinated and fried. The chicken tasted like plain chicken, coated with flour and fried. It is tasteless! More so, gyoza had filling that's very mushy. Don't know if they skimped on meat and used mostly veggies or what. This is the second time that I have eaten here and I wish I could give it 6-7 stars. The sushi is FRESH!!! It is delicious and served in a timely manner. Upon being seated, we were given a hot kettle of green tea. I had an order of gyoza as an appetizer and also tuna sashimi. It was 7 pieces of the best tuna I have ever eaten!! Honestly, very impressed & satisfied with my experience at Gami Sushi. I initially came here based on the hype about their beautifully plated Ebi Mayo dish, in reality, I was certain that this is just another sushi joint in Richmond, probably overpriced, serving up some subpar rolls here & there - I was wrong. Gami is located in a smaller shopping complex, where FreshCo is the anchor tenant. It's located away from the core of Richmond (i.e. No. 3 Road), and to my surprise, it's one of the busiest restaurants of it's size that has a continuous lineup out the door, for both take out orders & dine-in. Luckily the wait for dine-in was only a mere 15mins, I was confident the takeout wait time was close to 45mins (FYI). Once seated, I default ordered the Ebi Mayo & the Killer Salmon Tacos to start. The Ebi Mayo is a piece of prawn wrapped in a several layers/rings of loosely bundled sweet potato strings, deep fried. This is one of those dishes where you can't eat it nicely, it's slightly messy to eat, but nonetheless delicious & different! Amongst the rolls we ordered, I was impressed by the Lobster Roll, it's served on a massive platter, consisting of 8 pcs (possibly 10 pc) fist-sized roll, topped with the meat of a full lobster tail, 2 shrimp skewers and a generous salad on the size. The overall experience was great, I was impressed by the freshness of the food given the size of this sushi joint in Richmond. The indoor seating situation is slightly cramped / tighter for my liking but their range of special rolls made up for that. The downside is probably the similarity of fillings in their rolls; Of the 3-4 different rolls we ordered, I felt like the fillings were very similar across the board, the variances were in the toppings (sauces, sides, garnishes). Nonetheless, this is very affordable place for sushi, serving something difference than the typical places, definitely a place I would re-visit. read more

Honestly, this is my favourite place to get sushi in Richmond. They have great prices and great quality fish. They're opened for dine in and take out during COVID (take out has been so busy!). I've ordered multiple times during COVID and they have been really fast with their orders. When eating in, it's always busy during lunch/dinner time, but it's quick in-and-out for people. Ventured here on the recommendation that the sushi quality and price point is really great & it did not disappoint! We ordered 2 rolls and one chirashidon. And both were very delicious. I ordered a seafood (?) roll to see what it was like and this roll was massiveeee. It comes with lobster, shrimp, kebabs and basically was a large meal compiled into one sushi roll. The price point for this roll is much higher than the other rolls, but if you're into that heavy all in one seafood roll, I highly recommend trying this because I haven't seen an alternative that's similar anywhere else! The ambience of the restaurant is also very quaint, with a lot of cute wooden cubby seating aesthetics to replicate the vibes of Japan. We wanted take out and this oshi sushi was pretty decent - I would get it again. I normally viewed this place as a great deal for bento boxes during lunch time (like about $10/ bento box with California roll, assorted tempura, chicken/ beef teriyaki, and miso soup). The bento boxes are great portions - like I could split this with another person if we ordered a roll with a bento box. Anyways onto the pics: 1) the most surprising is that the oshi sushi was great in it's own way - its less rich than Miku's but overall larger in size and still delicious in it's own way - would definitely get the oshi sushi again. Note both oshi sushi flavors are pretty good - would get them BOTH again. 2) alaska roll was a little disappointing just because I was expecting more flavor (ie sauce) and thicker cut salmon pieces :( so because I have had other Alaska rolls, I've given myself a disappointing experience. Overall I think this is a decent roll but I wont order this again due to my own requirements for an alaska roll. 3) the nigiri was so fresh and I had the salmon belly. I didn't expect the salmon belly nigiri to be so BIG like I'm pretty sure it was longer than a soy sauce package. On top of that, the rice under the nigiri was so significant it took me 3 bites to finish it. 4) their rolls: magma/ oh gami/ sweet green attack roll are great rolls and I think I enjoyed the sweet green attack roll more just because there is seaweed salad on it. When leaving a rating for a restaurant, I normally base my review on three things. Food Quality / Value, Service, and Ambience. I will give Gami Sushi a rating of 2 1/2 stars. When we first arrived there was a line up. I was fine with that because to me, a line up at 8:45pm on a Monday evening meant the food was really good. After a 20 minute wait time, we were seated. I was happy that we got a private booth that would have seated 6 comfortably or a squishy 8. There was only four of us, so we had lots of elbow room! After ordering, the food came within a good time frame. Hot food was hot, and cool food was cool. So far so great. Tasty food and pleasingly plated. Here is where they really dropped in rating for me ... the service. Service was a bit lacking, I had to ask for water 4 times before we were finally brought some. During the meal, we rarely saw our waitress until she was bringing a dish or clearing a plate. At the end when we asked for our bill (paying by cash) the waitress looked at the money tray and asked if we wanted change. We said no. She turned around and looked at the money with a disgusted look on her face. We left a 14% tip. IMO it was generous tip. I can't say for sure if this is why she smirked at the money, it's my guess. I'm actually pretty happy I found out about this place. There aren't many sushi places in Richmond that I've been to and enjoyed. But this one is definitely a good choice and a place I'd want to come back to. It was pretty busy when I went. You have to write your name down on the whiteboard. There's a piece of paper above it that has a few words about writing your name legibly and making sure you're around to hear your name called. For a table for two, we waited around 15 minutes. We were seated and servers kept asking if we were ready to order. I think three different servers asked. I can understand that they want quick turnover, but it felt like a bit much. But at least they were attentive. We ended up getting the deluxe chirashi don, ebi mayo, gomae, chopped scallop nigiri, aburi salmon nigiri, aburi toro nigiri, and hamachi nigiri. The aburi is just am additional 50 cents and can only be done on tuna, salmon, toro, hamachi, or chopped scallop. Their nigiris are quite reasonably priced, even with the added on 50 cents. I thought they were pretty tasty. My friend said the hamachi was just OK though. The gomae was pretty basic and was tasty. The chirashi don was nicely presented and had lots of variety. The fish tasted fresh and the portion was quite big. The ebi mayo was interesting because it is tempura prawn but wrapped with strings of sweet potato that is also deep fried. It was cool to try but a little difficult to eat because of the sweet potato. Overall, the meal was very satisfying for a reasonable price. For the two of us, it was about 50 with tax and tip. Gami serves Japanese style food, though we never heard that language spoken in our visit. Generous portion sizes of sashimi, okay quality fish on the deluxe Donburi bowl. Real deal Tamari available was a plus for our gluten free request. Dynamite roll executed well, but we were seeking FRESH DELICIOUS fish, so...it's relative innit? Gami is not a poor restaurant. Decor is ok. Cleanliness ok. Service is not the strong suit, as pointed out by numerous reviews: Poor product knowledge, order taker knew not the components of my 'dish', couldn't find out, resulted in unwanted salmon roe inclusion. Teapot never refilled with HOT water. Communication skills very basic. Nil client rapore or "connection". Value is subjective innit? Lots of protein. Indifferent quality. 20 bucks a head. Cashless payments only. maki tray 42 rolls (first two pictures) 8.5/10 it is worth getting because you get a decent variety and all the rolls are great! I appreciate that there are only 6 maki rolls and the rest are full size. Rolls are on the smaller end but the fish is really good. Personally I'm too used to banzai sizes so the chopped scallop roll and California rolls were too small. Fish is fresh and I liked the restaurants version of the BC roll with the additional sauce. It makes it less dry. Alaska roll 8.5/10 it's my sisters favourite, gami does it different by having mashed avocado as the filling and a thin layer of salmon on top. It is tangy, I believe they use the salad dressing used in House roll 7/10 personally nothing special and I didn't find myself going back for another piece. Richmond has lots of hidden jams in terms of the restaurants, this Japanese Place was definitely one of them. As my first impression was really good, but the second experience was such a turnoff. All happened in one week, which makes me feel a little disappointed on how quick the falloff is. When I went there on Tuesday for a work lunch with some coworkers, we put our names down for a table. The restaurant seemed to be very busy during lunch hours, and no reservation is allowed. Once we were seated, the waitress came and dropped off some tea and cups. As I was poring the tea, one of the cups burst into half which spilled all the water. I moved very quickly so the water didn't get on my pants. We joked about my tea poring skills afterwards, which I didn't think it was that big of a deal. But we tried for 5 minutes to flag down a waitress, and she only came to drop off more napkins, did not even take away the soaked ones, nor wiped down the table, very unlike the Japanese style. (I think they are not owned by actual Japanese that's why) When we got our food, I was impressed how fast they are with the orders, and how fresh the sashimi was. I ordered the spicy salmon sashimi combo, for only $10.95! It came with some cucumber rolls, diced salmon sashimi with spicy sauce, and some spicy salmon rolls. The salad and miso soup were also part of the combo, which I think was the best value. We were chatting and laughing, didn't really pay attention to the service etc, and didn't really care tbh. As long as the food was good right? On Saturday, I was in the neighborhood again and decided to do take out for our family. I bragged about the food with my husband who likes sushi very much, so I want him to try it. Because I had my baby daughter in the car, so I decided to call in to order first. The waitress on the phone was very impatient, and tried to hang up on my twice before I even finished my order! I had to keep telling her I'm not finished yet, and she didn't seem to care much. 15 mins later I went in to pick up the food with my daughter, it was busy as usual with a few people waiting outside, and nobody seem to know what's going on and no one at the door to seat people. I walked in and waited in line by the cashier and she saw me holding the baby, and still handed me a POS machine to pay and left me stood there. In my head, I was thinking how do you expect me to pay with both of my hand occupied, couldn't you just put it on the counter and let me know when it's ready? Once again, didn't seem to care. The funny thing is, the restaurant doesn't seem to be that busy to the point there's zero service to customers. I walked out with an annoying feeling, thinking if there's anyway they can improve their service. Because even though the food was good, the price was cheap, but they are not good enough for me to go back again having to deal with this type of service. So if any of you wants to eat inside, make sure to go early to avoid the wait. For pickup orders, please call in with a list of things telling them without breathing, so they wouldn't be able to hang up on you! Noodles were chewy and good, and the filling was a good amount. Came with a side of ebi tempura which was nice. It was a bit too "soggy" because it just fell apart but not the melt in your mouth kinda way. Overall rating: 3.5/5 I had heard about Gami Sushi from some friends and decided to give it a try! When I first arrived, since the restaurant was generally pretty busy, I noted that you needed to put your name, the number of people you were with, and your phone number. A pretty smart idea, if you ask me! So after waiting maybe ten minutes, we got our seats. The waitress was friendly enough, but the service wasn't anything special. After some deliberation, we settled on the Spinach Gomae, GAMI Sashimi Salad, Salmon & Avo Roll, and Spicy Salmon Roll. Spinach Gomae: When the spinach gomae arrived at the table, I was a bit surprised by the size, but I guess for $3.45, you do get what you pay for. The sauce on the gomae was great and flavorful; however, there was a bit too much sauce on the spinach for me. Other than that, it was a solid appetizer. GAMI Sashimi Salad: The sashimi was fresh and tasted delicious! The sauce was average, nothing too special. For $8.95, it was a pretty good sashimi salad. Salmon & Avo Roll: To be honest, the roll was a bit small. The individual sushi was oddly cut so that each piece was a different size. The salmon and avocado were really fresh, however. For $3.95, I definitely got what I paid for, as the roll was on the smaller side for sure. Spicy Salmon Roll: The spicy salmon roll was great! It was a tad too spicy for me, but the taste overall was delicious. Also at $3.95, it certainly wasn't the biggest roll I've ever seen. Overall, Gami Sushi was pretty good and I could see myself coming back here. Customers really get what they pay for though, as the sizes of the rolls are smaller than what I'm used to (but at $3.95, it makes sense!) This used to be one of the better sushi places for a reasonable price point. I don't know what has happened to both the quality. They raised their prices twice within a month's time significantly, probably because they used to have a reputation of being a good sushi place pre-pandemic. Now their sushi is low quality. The rolls are loose and the last two times fall apart when you try to pick it up. And it food prep looks rushed as there's rice and roe all the the inside and outside of the containers. I give them 2 stars because we have tried a half dozen times hoping that it was just a fluke that we got a bad few orders. Once they even forgot to include soy sauce and wasabi. i wasn't about to drive another 20 mins back to pick that. The recipe is the same tasty recipe, but inconsistent prep where rolls fall apart, nigiri slices are inconsistent and moving towards getting thinner and then raised prices twice in one month... all led to us not ordering from there any more. Maybe we'll give them a try in a few months again to see if things have changed, but at those prices... there are some other better choices for sushi made with a bit more care. read more

Poor chicken quality, very dry & overcooked - teriyaki sauce almost scraped on. The oil used to fry and deep fry is not being changed so it tasted rancid. Decided to try this place as have been driving past it all this time. Place is in a strip mall close to rbc bank and safeway. Ordered a chicken teri hot plate, salmon sashimi, crispy fried cali roll, and smoke salmon roll. The hot plate came sizzling hot and fragrant. Chicken fillet was served on top of a heap of mix vegs like sprouts brocolli and shredded cabbage doused with teri sauce served with a bowl of rice. The fried cali roll was a good contrast of crunch and tenderness from the crab. Plus the sauce it came drizzled with just made the dish so alive in my mouth. Its basically cali rolls wrapped in panko bread crumbs and then fried . Rolls were bigger than the typical cali roll..so overall i enjoyed this very much. Next the salmon sashimi came well presented. Good chunks of salmon with good marbling on the fish...no smell at all. Tasted moist and tender and awesome. Smoked salmon roll was kinda weak. It was poorly rolled and fell apart easily. The smoked salmon on top of each roll was paper thin and when ate together, wasnt really a factor. Service was absolutely outstanding. Quick and efficient. Everything came in less than 10 mins after we ordered. The servers always made sure things were well placed on the table. Very attentive to needs. Lastly, the house japanese tea was weak. I took a look inside and discoverd that they didnt put too much tea leaves in the pot. Maybe a tsp tops...so the first pour was weak and watery. The rolls were constructed very well and neatly presented. not too much rice on the rolls either and an ample amount of filling. the negitoro roll was filled with fish and both the magma roll and smoked salmon cream cheese roll had lots of delicious imitation crab meat inside. flavours are present but not overbearing. takoyaki also came very fresh and delicious! only complaint is the size of the spicy salmon sashimi. about half of what sushi garden serves for a little more money. it was delicious but the value was not there. overall good food though with nice service and a pretty space as well. still had people waiting at 2pm. read more

Ordered from this spot twice over the last month. First order I placed they forgot to provide me with 1 of the combos I ordered and I had to drive back to get the remainder of my takeout. I felt it was an honest mistake because they were apologetic. The second time, they AGAIN forgot to give me part of my order. This time I called and emailed back for a partial refund as I did not have time to go back to the store for the rest of my order. However, this was never acknowledged and I have not received my refund to date. I would recommend avoiding this place to save yourself the hassle. Food is great. Got the chicken karrage. it was amazing!! Gyoza aint good and have never liked the service. We get takeout there all the time and they are chincey with the sauces and forget ginger and wasabi sometimes. You need to be detailed with exactly what you want .. oh yah and they rude !! Gami Sushi... more like Gimme Sushi! Definitely a go-to place when I need some sushi or udon. This restaurant is hidden in the old Broadmoor Shopping complex right next to the RBC Bank. Plenty of free parking but as always, a popular place during lunch and dinner. Write your name on the whiteboard and wait to be seated. The interior is cozy and modern with the darker colours and wooden and concrete accents. I really like the enclosed booth seating area for larger groups. They have a good range on their menu from appetizers, sushi rolls, sashimi, noodles, rice bowls, hot plates and grilled items. They have a lunch time bento deal as well until 4pm most days. My main dish I order is the Udon. Gami has the one of the best and most deluxe udon noodle bowls for under $9! I go for the Chicken Udon - packed full of ender pieces of chicken and topped with veggies, enoki mushrooms, fish tofu, and panko pieces. Lots of flavour infused into the broth and the udon is always chewy and perfectly made. All of this goodness is held in a stone bowl which keeps a lot of the heat, so no cold udon until your last slurp. I enjoy their rolls as well. I recently had their Piggy Roll - fresh ingredients and good flavour and texture combos. Their Grilled Salmon Cheeks are a super good deal too - if they don't sell out first! Lots of soft, tender meat and grilled with lots of good flavour. Service is pretty efficient and pleasant considering how busy they can get. I appreciate the hot pot of rice green tea so you don't have to keep asking for tea fill-ups - although the pot is kind of small but between two people it's fine.
