Although I was determined to have sushi, I wasn't going to wait that long and I didn't want to break the bank. So, I jumped onto yelp and found Sushi House $$, yay! Sushi House is a decent option for those looking for a quick, filling sushi meal without breaking the bank. The restaurant provides speedy service and large servings, making it a great value for those looking to grab a bite on the go. However, while the portions are generous, the quality of the food is a tad better than what you might find at an AYCE sushi restaurant. Food is cheap, which is nice. The sushi is poorly plated, looks messy, but tastes halfway decent. However, the service is below par for any restaurant. Their alcohol is all warm, including beer. The server looked miserable and couldn't give any suggestions. Probably good for takeout, but dining in will be miserable if you go more than once. Enter at your own peril. read more

It's been a while since I've last visited here (back when it was still Japanese owned). Was craving for sushi and decided to come here since I've came across some decent reviews and for old times sake. They have a good selection of rolls for people who don't eat raw fish, which is great! The main reason why I am rating this restaurant low is because I came in to pick up my take out and did not see the "No Amex" sign which was placed opposite of the POS machine and so I paid with my AMEX which went through. I was later told by the cashier that they don't take Amex due to a $15 transaction fee. - Again, I did not know this and the machine took my payment. Anyways I am assuming that it was the owner that eventually came out and together they came to the conclusion that I will now have to process another payment for an addition $15 for this fee. I have never heard of a $15 transaction fee for processing 1 payment. These transaction fees have always been a percentage of the charge. I explained to the cashier that I was unaware of this and asked of a refund on my Amex so that I can pay again using my MasterCard, both the cashier and the owner spent sometime trying to figure out how to process the refund but we're both unsuccessful. The owners attitude was not friendly at all, practically tossing the authorization card for the POS machine, while the cashier was apologetic saying that he should have told me about their no Amex policy. Visited: March 27 2019 Overall, come here for no fuss, quick service, good portions and cheap Japanese food. We are not raw sushi eaters and they have a large menu of cooked foods, appetizers and rolls. We always ordered the deep fried California roll instead of the crazy boy roll, it's cheap, delicious and plentiful ($4.5). The crazy boy roll is essentially the same thing as the DF Cali roll but with different sauce/topping and it's slightly more expensive. I tried the nabeyaki udon this visit and it tasted pretty good. I wished they would serve the tempura on the side instead of inside the hot pot since it made them soggy. The noodles portion was small also unfortunately. Not bad at all for sushi in Richmond! The rolls are a good price and their lunch deals are great! We got their mini chirashi lunch special that came with a small salad. It was not mini at all with 2 slices of salmon, 3 tuna, hamachi, scallop, tamago and hokkagi! The sashimi was fresh and rice was well flavoured! Also got their lunch box A with sashimi, beef teriyaki, tempura, and salad. The cooked foods were not amazing but good for the price! We also tried a few of their rolls being the spicy salmon which had a nice large salmon chunk instead of chopped pieces. The half house roll was similar to other establishments but tasted good. Their ichi roll was very good and basically a twist on house roll with some different ingredients inside and wrapped in soy paper. My favourite thing about their rolls is that the rice is not too gummy and is a very thin layer. Overall, for the price, the fish is fresh, the portions are good and the food is yummy! Blacklisted completely. Ordered 3 different items and it was terrible. I've tried this place about 10 years ago, back then it was probably a different owner. Food was alright but figured why not give it a try. Oh boy, ordered a chicken teriyaki bento, it literally was 1/4 of a piece of chicken, 4 tiny pieces. The sashimi that came with it, the salmon was cut in half to make two pieces. The miso soup was sour and most likely a day old coz it shouldn't be sour. The nabeyaki udon, bland, had spinach a piece of egg and a mushroom just thrown in. Like, how they have stayed opened this long blows my mind. read more

Came here on the recommendation of a friend. It's in part of a strip mall that you probably won't notice if you drive into the parking lot. With that said, there is plenty of parking. If I were to describe the interior, it would be "classy casual". The place is clean and neat. The restaurant was mostly full. Staff were friendly, and attentive. Their sushi is a bit pricey, but good. Salmon toro sushi - soft and fresh. Uni sushi - relative large piece. Sound trap roll (fried eel and cream cheese) - tasty and a bit gooey. Negitoro roll - not too much green onion. Tuna tasted fresh. Chopped scallop roll - generous chunks of scallop. Rice is soft. Oyako don - a bit disappointing. Tasted like an omelette on rice. Katsu don - a bit better. Meat was thin and dry though. Overall the rice bowls were mediocre, but the sushi pieces are quite delicious. I'd stick with the latter. read more

Great place for inexpensive sushi, though I do recommend getting it to go. The service was minimal to me for the hour I was there, despite being the only customer here (at 4pm). I ordered some takoyaki (~$5.5) and a negitoro don ($9) which was a good deal. The amount of negitoro was plentiful and decent tasting. The takoyaki (5pc) had one tentacle per ball, and ginger in some. The food itself is good for the price. I'm interested in trying the oshi sushi next time as the price is one of the lowest I've seen. read more

Hmmmmm. We haven't been here in awhile and now I understand why. It's not the same as before and before that wasn't the same as the original owners. Price was good as usual and despite the fact that they were busy. It looks like the sushi was made by someone without proper sushi making training. Take a look at my pics. The futomaki is smaller than most places and hmmmmm. The bc roll was mixed in size ...... but they were very busy! That's a good thing. I'm always down for any kind of Japanese food, but especially if it's more than just sushi. Bento boxes are the best, so when my dad said the bento boxes here were good, why wouldn't I give it a try? First, the service here is very mediocre and I probably would not return based on that. The waitresses seemed a little angry at something. I ordered the Lunch Special A which comes with a miso soup. The soup was lacking a little taste. Usually with bento boxes, you get some Japanese rice to go with it, but this comes with Chinese rice... probably as a cost-cutting method. You instantly taste the difference and it makes an even bigger difference. The tempura and the sashimi was not very good either, which makes me wonder how fresh the sashimi is... Overall, I'd rate this as a poor experience in terms of service and food. Given that this is Richmond, you're not spoiled for choice. This is my favourite spot for sushi in Richmond. Whether it's take-out or sit-in, I really enjoy the food from this place. If you order for pick up in advance, they give you 10% off...win! Plus, the sushi is quality and you get lots of bang for your buck. On my most recent visit, I ate in with a group of 5. We ordered lots of sushi, tempura, and karage to share. We each also had our own dons. I had an unagi don, which was good, however, it came with way too much rice. We were all stuffed after our meal! The restaurant is small and they had to push a few tables together to seat our group of 5 near the entrance. There isn't much room for other patrons to wait for tables so as we were finishing up, the people waiting were standing awkwardly right next to our table. For a place like this, the food is the star. Looking for something quick to eat in Richmond, I suggested we give Sushi House a revisit. I realized that they have some combos and they are quite well valued! My Spicy Tuna Combo was only $8.50 and consisted of the Spicy Tuna Roll, Negitoro Roll, Tuna, Salmon, and Ebi Nigiri. All the rolls were pretty well executed and quite fresh. Very reasonably priced for the amount of food I got. I was beyond full after finishing my plate. S went for his favourite classics and got the California Roll and Dynamite Roll. He said they were well constructed and quite delicious. This restaurant is one of my friend's favorite go to's, so when we were making plans to meet up for dinner somewhere, I figured it was a great opportunity to check out a new place. We got seated right away when we got in. The customer service we received wasn't crazy fast after that, but my party and I were okay with waving our server down, so it was all good. Take initiative if you're starting to get hangry! We ordered a number of different items between the three of us. I ordered the typical avocado roll, kappa maki, agedashi tofu and veggie sunomono that can be found at almost every restaurant. Added a crispy roll in for something different; it was basically a green bean tempura roll. Response time-wise, they brought out the food really quickly! It looked like they had tons of chefs available for their dinner rush, and based on what my friend told me, the wait usually isn't too long. Taste-wise, I've had better sunomono; the noodles tasted as though they had been recently taken out of the fridge or freezer. The tofu was softer than expected for an agedashi tofu, and although I had been informed that the rice for the sushi usually has a lot of vinegar, it wasn't crazy spectacular so I was a bit let down. Take heed: this is the experience of a vegetarian who eats way too much sushi. Rice makes a huge difference for me. Nevertheless, for a poor graduate student who hadn't eaten in hours, the meal was still awesome and this place had really well priced sushi for dinner. All the Nigiri&Rolls were really good, Including the udon the udon broth was so good and instantly warmed my soul. We decided to do takeout since we didn't really want to leave the comfort of our home. If they delivered it would have been better. I liked that they have photos and you can order from their website. Things we got: -Dynamite Roll (3.5/5): No complaints -Masago Roll (3/5): Like if you look at their photo, it looks like a super fancy spicy tuna roll for $2.50 but when you get it, it's a simple seaweed on the outside and masago in the middle of the rice situation. Seriously, it's not a bad masago roll just the photo is deceiving. -Oshi Smoked Salmon (3.5/5): This tasted good but I think I'll go with the regular salmon next time. -Volcano Roll (4.5/5): Crunch Spicy Tuna&Avocado With Chop Scallops&Tobiko. This was my favourite roll. I'd order this again. I didn't get any crunch though but that's ok, I'm satisfied already. -Aburi Amaebi and Aburi Toro (3.5/5 & 3.5/5): I'm more used to getting the bigger one piece ebi and this place served it with the two smaller sweet ebi which is good too. The toro was good but not the best I've had. However.. I do think it's the cheapest aburi toro I've had in Vancouver ($1.90/pc) -Yakitori (2.75/5): My least favourite and that could also be 'cause I'm not a huge yakitori fan to begin with. The chicken was nice and tender but I think it would have been better if it was charred. Tasted a bit like boiled chicken skewers with sauce. I had a good experience at this place. It surprised me even more due to the decent pricing and the quality for takeout. I definitely expected less. read more

The service is rude and unwelcoming. The staff look like they are hostile and hate their job. The food quality hasn't been as good as before either, so it's not worth getting bad service on top of just mediocre food. I will not be going back. read more

This place is awesome. My favorite place for sushi in Richmond. The price is totally worth the quality of the food here, and the price isn't really that high. The restaurant is a little small but it's not cramped or anything, but there may be a wait for seats during the busy hours. Their lunch specials are good deals and I have a couple of select dishes I would recommend: Sound Trap Roll - fried unagi and cream cheese. MMMM Saba Battera - pressed saba sushi with ginger House Roll - has a little bit of everything with a huge chunk of salmon A couple of my personal faves are the chopped scallop roll, and also the negitoro. This was my first time going to Sushi House. I called beforehand for a takeout order. I called at about 11:15 am and was told to pick it up at 12 since they had just opened. I arrived early so I actually went in at 11:40. I was pleasantly surprised that they already had my sushi prepared! I ordered the Sound Trap Roll (10 pieces), which is Unagi with Cream Cheese. It was absolutely delectable! I was impressed with the rice to filling ratio, there wasn't too much rice, and there was alot of unagi. They unagi was sweet and crunchy, and went very well with the cream cheese. Service was quick, and the sushi was delicious! I'll be back! read more

So decided to give this place another shot, haven't been back here for 2 years since the last time was not so impressive either. Ordered take out..really nothing special, got the toro, wild salmon sashimi and various rolls. I'm not sure why they put lettuce in the rolls...its pointless and adds nothing to them. Sashimi was alright, not the best toro but acceptable and the wild salmon was good enough. Now the thing was we called in at 7PM to do take out, it took several times of repeating for the lady to finally get what we ordered. Get there 20 minutes later as they instructed and it took the lady another 10 minutes to calculate the cost and then later she informs us that they are out of toro so no toro nigiri. Its not rocket science, my 6 year old nephew with a calculator can do a faster job then the waitress there. Couldn't decide what I wanted to eat that night but was craving sushi but I didn't want to go back to the places that I normally always go, wanted to try something new. This place came up so decided to go give it a try. Right off the bat i knew this place can only serve standard sushi nothing too special that I have never seen before and that's ok because sometimes you just want normal stuff, and regular/good quality. The place was sort of small maybe approximately about 15 tables? So not alot of space. The thing I do really like about this place that I haven't found at other places is their sashimi pieces are cut very thick and that's a very good thing! Usually some places are cheap on the sashimi and give u small and very thin slices, but not here! They actually give you a good large piece which I like very much. The sushi is alright, again nothing too special or exciting but that's what this place is about. Just plain standard items. Also their platters are pretty competitive in price as some places charge more but give you less, I find this place they give you alot for a decent price. What i remember seeing was a platter with sushi,maki's and sashimi for like 37-38 pieces for $20.00 that's not bad! Definitely a good place to come for a small group. We came here for dinner after work since I was having a sushi craving... it's sort of like the McDonald's of sushi. OK quality, low prices and fast. We ate in and ordered a mix of items: vegetable tempura, sushi, rolls (negitoro and spicy salmon) and beef teriyaki. The tempura was very good - nice light batter and very hot, with crisp vegetables inside. The teriyaki beef was also quite good, served with spouts, rice and miso soup. Miso soup was the standard fare. The sushi and rolls weren't great... especially the rolls. The fish was lacking in taste and the texture was off in both, with no nice firmness in the flesh. I'm also a bit anal, and there's a lack of precision with the rice and cutting. Sushi was so-so. Again the same complaint about the fish quality applies. Service was good and it was a busy Friday night. Food comes quickly and the prices are cheap. To be honest, I probably won't come back since I'd rather pay more for better fish. It's sad that in a sea of Asian restaurants in Richmond, that good sushi is hard to come by. read more

I know that good sushi =/= big portions but yet I still felt like the rolls here were too small. The rolls did not have enough filling in them so the rice portion of the rolls were overlapping. For a party of two, we shared the lunch Oyako don rice set, Alaska roll, JB roll and the Kaide(?) roll? I forgot the name but it was like a knock-off Miku roll. I've come to realize that there are two different types of imitation crab that sushi bars use for their California roll mixture. At Sushi House, they use the softer, mushier kind that I don't like as much. The Alaska roll was essentially a California roll with a piece of salmon rolled inside, it was average. The JB roll was salmon, cucumber and cream cheese - I'm usually a sucker for rolls with cream cheese but the one at Sushi House came below average .. it just didn't have enough cream cheese inside. The Kaide roll was salmon, crab meat, ikura and cucumber inside with tobiko all round. I expected the roll to have a sauce and seared like their picture on the menu, but the roll ended up just being drizzled with mayo and barely seared. It was underwhelming but still enjoyable cause I personally love tobiko. The highlight of this experience was the Oyako don, I loved the sweet sauce, the runny egg & cooked onions - pretty solid dish and one of the only thing that I'd order again out of all the other plates we tried. This is one of my favorite sushi house located at the Continental Plaza. It guarantees good quality, freshness and nice presentation. The restaurant itself is smaller in size so its probably not ideal to go in big groups more than 4 per table. They do have some specialty rolls and specials menu posted on the walls. I usually go for the nigiri sushi for dinner. I've tried their lunch menu but was disappointed with their mini sized mackerel set meal. It is so tiny that even my cat will be hungry afterwards but mind you the miso sauce on it was absolute delish~ Price range is fair for the portions and quality and it is run by the Japanese. Lots of free parking is available at the plaza. There is also a takeout menu with discount if you pre-order. read more

Blasphemy. I can't believe I didn't post about Sushi House. Then again, I'm thinking that I may have forgot to Yelp about Vancouver? It's okay. Yelp troubleshooting is easy. Just yelp. When I'm in Vancouver, which is often but not frequent enough, I try to make it to certain restaurants. Sushi House is one. Mosty because flying makes me hungry. I arrive. I get my bags. I make my parents take me to Sushi House. Seating is limited but it's by no means cramped. I normally give Sushi House four stars. I added an extra one for their flame passed sushi. I think they have it listed as arubi. My apologies for not paying attention but I was enamoured by the piece of sushi that arrived. It was beautiful. It tasted amazing. I ordered two more. And at $1.25 each, you can order ten more. A little history about Sushi House? There used to be a Sushi House on Kingsway in Burnaby. That closed and re-opened as Nao. Also a favourite of mine. I'm not sure if there was always a Sushi House in Richmond? Our family only started to go while Nao closed down. But honestly, who cares? Both serve cheap, fresh, yummy eats. read more

There house roll is about as big as a sheet of nori can wrap stuff up with. With rice on the inside and outside, full of crab, egg, fish, and such this thing is huge! Sashimi in the chirashi are 1/2" thick and portions are generous (extra points). Their maple leave roll special is packed with tobiko and ikura. Fish is hanging off the nigiris! This place got a nice selection of all the standard sushi and japanese entrees at a reasonable price. Their quality is average, but for the price and portion size I am a fan! read more

Some friends recommended Sushi house so we decided to try it out. I really enjoyed their California rolls which are probably one of the best I've had in the Lower Mainland.
