I had no idea about Bar B until a friendly guy sitting next to me on a flight from BKK told me about it. I was intrigued that it was an Italian-inspired standing bar with a Japanese owner. I'd been to Basta Pasta over the years, but had no idea they had a bar--when you look carefully, the "b" is actually the same exact font. I finally came here this week with a friend and we absolutely loved it. It's a small place and when we arrived past 6pm, it was already full. But the staff was able to set up a table for us outside. We ordered: - Sea Scallops Carpaccio ($13+) - Chicken Skewers ($13+) - Penne Amatriciana ($16+) - Crème Brûlée ($11+) Everything we ordered was delicious and I would recommend them all. Drinks, they have happy hour until 7pm, which was great--especially since it includes prosecco for $8+. There was a consistent flow of people, with a line outside at times. It was a chilly evening and got so cold we asked to go inside once a space opened up. The staff were attentive and very helpful. It's a small place and may be hard to get in, but I will be back for sure, to try more of their delicious dishes.

I love the vibe of this tiny standing wine bar. It reminds me of a traditional Japanese izakaya. You don't get much cozy neighborhood bars in Manhattan anymore, especially not in Chelsea, which is flooded with trendy cocktail bars serving $20 pre-tax/tip cocktails. Somehow the food served manages to be simply delicious as well. And no, that's not the wine talking. 1. WHITE ANCHOVY (marinated in vinegar + sicillian olives) $7 2. GRILLED CALAMARI (sauteed kale, bottarga) $16 3. GRILLED BRANZINO (shredded carrots, celery, onion dressing) $17 4. PENNE AMATRICIANA (applewood smoked bacon, onion, parmesan, tomato sauce) $16

I went here a few months prior to quarantine I'd say this is a stand up place. All kidding aside, this place is excellent and it has a fun atmosphere. I ordered a montanaro spritz which is an amaro based cocktail. In short it had a great bitter aftertaste and I liked it a lot (though I always like amaro.) I went with two dishes, one from the daily specials, and one of the main menu options. From the specials menu, I ordered fries with sardine ragu. This was very good and I'd highly recommend ordering it if it's on the menu. The sardine ragu was rich and complex with some sweetness (I think there were pearl onions or something mixed.) The fries were solid as well. From the pasta section, I got fusilli with basil/pine nut pesto, string beans, and yukon. Good pasta texture. I found the flavor of the pesto slightly bland especially with the potatoes on the side. i think I should have gone with the squid ink risotto but it was overall good. Staff here is friendly and they have a nice atmosphere. Cool place with a unique spin on Italian food.

A review that's been a long time coming. I've been here over a handful of times and once more recently and the quality and good vibes from the restaurant are still the same, great. The restaurant setup can deter people from dining here because it's a standing only against a bar top with not much space, but it's cozy and doesnt feel packed. Bar B staff are always fun and in a good mood, especially the head chef. Last time I came recently, I saw the menu had some new items and tried to eat as much as possible. Beet salad with walnuts, goat cheese, and olive oil was great. Very fresh beets and cooked great with a nice soft tasty goat cheese. Ordered a side of fries with a mayo ketchup sauce that also had a secret ingredient I still haven't been able to figure out. Fried prawns were new and came with a mustard base with horseradish. Fried well and not greasy at all. Ordered a polpetto - beef croquette and it was juicy as can be with a nice vinaigrette sauce on type The calamari was good with what seemed like a housemade tomato sauce Finally was the skirt steak with a delicious housemade potato salad. The most interesting bit of the meal for me was the potatoe salad that had a vinegar taste that was subtle and amazing

I highly recommend this restaurant if you are a foodie. The standing part makes it unique, and if you're lucky enough to get a spot further in you can watch the chef make all of the dishes. The food was spectacular, and the drinks are great as well. Give it a try!

This is the best restaurant in Chelsea. Kid you not. This narrow little alleyway of a restaurant, where you're forced to stand while you eat divine and creamy shrimp risotto with shiitake mushroom, made right in front of you. Where you eat grilled calamari made in a pan a foot away, topped with kale and bottarga and the best calamari you've had. Where you munch on grilled veggies and ricotta and prosciutto, and al dente penne bolognese. This is the sister restaurant to Basta Pasta, and it sure tastes like it, but this spot is all it's own. It feels like a sexy little European getaway, a cozy nook, a little secret. 5 Stars!!!!!

If you plan on checking this place out for the first time I recommend bringing a friend. When I say "a" friend, I literally mean one friend!! This amazing little place only has a bar where about 8-10 people can stand. Whenever I hangout in the area or just looking for chill place to meet up I always find myself recommending this place. It's a solid one for my books. The place is intimate, charming, and comfortable, although there is no seating. The dishes here range from 8-9 dollars and are small however packed with flavor. There is also variety of wine to choose from and great happy hour from 4-7. It's definitely one of my favorite places in nyc.

The food wasn't bad. It just wasn't filling. I wish they didn't allow patrons under a certain age because the table next to us had a baby wailing and a dog. It was 2 tables maximum outdoors and no dining indoors when I went, so I'm not sure how they're making money. I like that the sizes are small so you can try different dishes at once, but once again, my pasta did not wow me.

I've been coming here for years and every dining experience has been fantastic. The cicchetti is delicious and made right in front of you! The owner, Jimmy, and his staff are always welcoming and very attentive. They also have a great selection of wine at favorable pricing. Bar B has character, wonderful ambience, and is a must visit!

COVID-19 review. This is my favorite restaurant in the neighborhood. The food is always amazing and service is great! They used to be standing only pre covid but now they have tables outside. Plenty of space for social distancing. Current hours: 5-10pm. Happy hour til 7pm.

Stoked to find this local Italian spot with a hint of Japanese culture. Fair prices on amazing food for a both a casual and/or date night. They only have 1-2 tables outside while the rest is a standing bar. If you don't mind standing then you'll be in for a modern treat. I would highly recommend; I can't wait to go back and try other dishes!

Ordered ahead online to get takeout from Bar B and had an even better experience this time around! The Fusilli al Prosciutto and Porcini is still my favorite, but the Marinated Skirt Steak with potato salad was also incredible. Also liked the Orecchiette Bolognese. The food here is just amazing so I'm adding a star!

4 stars for the food, not so much the space. The restaurant is considered a hole in the wall where there are no seated areas. There is only a hallway with counter space where you stand and enjoy the food. We unfortunately, had the counter spot right in front of the kitchen area and it was SO HOT. I think the entire space could only fit a max of 10 people. The happy hour menu is great I believe it last until 7pm, but I felt way too cramp to enjoy it. We ordered the steak(def get this), octopus, risotto, and bruschetta. Everything was very delicious. I wish this place will move to a larger space since I loved the food. Otherwise I don't foresee myself coming back again.

I've been twice so far an will definitely be back again. The food here is amazing and they have a very impressive selection wines. The first time I came just for coffee, its the perfect spot to have an espresso but the second time I tried some of their food and was blown away. I had both the cheese and the squid ink croquettes, absolutely delicious, and they were great with all the wine I tried. The staff was so friendly and helpful. Can't wait to go back! read more

Best hidden gem on 7th ave! It's a cute little wine bar, there's one single bar and no chairs, you just stand at the bar. The service is amazing, and the tapas are so delicious - the octopus salad was so so good. They have a great happy hour too- wine for $5 and beer for $4. The later it gets the more crowded it is because the vibe is so nice - brick walls, open kitchen. Highly recommended!!! read more

This place is absolutely adorable. Surprisingly small, but a cozy atmosphere with a ridiculously friendly staff. Only one bartender/waiter and one cook, yet my drink never sat empty for more than a moment, I received water just before realizing how much I wanted it, and was otherwise always taken care of. Not to mention that happy hour prices were fabulous. Loved everything. Highest compliments to the bartender. P.S. It was my friend's birthday and the cook/bartender sweetly brought us a DELICIOUS little cake, complete with a lit candle and voice full of song. read more

Was just killing time and found this little gem on Yelp. 6pm on Tuesday no one here. Ordered the scallop carpaccio (to die for), and shrimp sandwich and potato salad with a beer and glass of wine for two and all under 40 dollars. Thank you Yelp. Also the ceiling is beautiful, filled with "cork art". Locals come here. read more

Adorable little tapas wine bar that transports you directly to a little alleyway shop in Spain. Good selection of wines, but it's the food that is truly standout. Fries with sardines, fried chicken, cheese plates...YUM. Bartenders are also quite generous with their pours :). Get there before 7pm for the happy hour (yay it is indeed happy!). Only consideration is that it's standing room only and pretty small; but that just makes it feel more like you're in Espana. read more

If you don't mind standing, this is a great place to come for a glass of wine. I came here for a date and I thought the service was great and unobtrusive, and it was a pleasant atmosphere. The ceiling is really cool too. My date likes this place quite a lot and said the menu is fantastic, so I'm looking forward to going back and trying the food. read more

Excellent place to slide into. I walked by one day and was immediately compelled, so I figured I'd remember it and come back. One rainy night I happened to be walking around Chelsea with a small group and Bar B was the perfect spot for a bit of refuge. Small menu of wine and food (thrown together on their quaint but robust range behind the bar), but very reasonable prices and very reasonable quality (happy hour $5 for a nice glass of Sangiovese?! I'm sold). With low light, eclectic tunes, and subway tiles, there isn't much not to like. Very easy to slip into conversation (or your glass), which is exactly the point. read more

Came here with a friend for happy hour drinks. The small plates are cute! Not badly priced either! This is a standing bar and somewhat of a small space be prepared to stand!! The only reason why it's four and not five stars is because we stood at the end of the bar, closest to the stove!! Super hot!!! No AC either! But yeah cute place :) read more

We visited a year ago on the way to see a show in the Village, but didn't give it a full try, as we had already eaten. This year, we came hungry, stood at the bar (there is no seating) and gave it a proper try. So glad we did. When we came before, it was pretty clearly Italian, but this trip we noticed that all of the staff were Japanese and while there was risotto and steak, there was a lot of seafood on the menu and a really cool intersection of Japanese/Italian plates. We had an octopus salad, shiitake risotto, branzino and scallops topped with uni. The scallops and uni was not just the highlight of our evening, it was the culinary highlight of the weekend. The. Entire. Weekend. I would go back just for the scallops and uni. read more

We came here already knowing that we'll be standing at the bar so that didn't bother us at all even though we were a party of 4. The other patrons graciously shifted so there was enough space for us near the grill. We came here for apps so we only ordered drinks, octopus salad and a carpaccio dish. One of our friends didn't like his white sangria drink but we happily drank it for him instead. Overall, yummy food at decent prices. We would go again and try some other things on their menu. read more

Bar B is a cozy space with a vibrant drink and food menu. It fits about 16 standing people. The interior is classy and the service is quick. Grilled branzino, seared scallops, and creme bruleé are made 5 to 10 feet from customer. It is great for a date. read more

This place is a hidden gem. A tiny little bar with only standing room that has an extensive wine collection and the best tapas I've ever had. Came here with a date and was so impressed with the ambiance and great food. Highly reccomend the skirt steak, mouth watering & in some type of wasabi sauce which gives it an awesome kick. Ribs were great, along with the branzino. Everything is just delicious, can't say a single bad thing about this place! read more

Cute little wine/tapas bar off 7th Ave in lower Chelsea! We decided to randomly stop by on a weeknight for a quick drink before heading out and I don't regret it at all. Nice selections of quality wines, a small tapas menu. Very cozy space and it's all standing along the bar - but that's what makes it stand out. Bartenders were friendly too. read more

Fantastic hole in the wall tapas bar with a slight Japanese twist for a quick bite. Catch up with friends, feed a craving before a late dinner reservation, have an excuse to stand close to your cutie on a first date. The staff is very welcoming, and the crab croquettes are perfect. read more

This is a Japanese - American style bar/restaurant operated by two Japanese (I assume because they speak Japanese). I forgot to take pics of my order because I ate too quick. My order: sea urchin bruschetta, Spanish octopus salad, shrimp sandwich with potato side salad, and fusilli pasta. EVERY SINGLE DISH IS DELICIOUS AND YOU SHOULD TRY!! It combines the lightness of Japanese cuisine as well as some strong tasting flavors from American or Italian cuisine. You really should try. However, be aware that there is not seat,you need to stand by the bar to eat. That is why I point out it is a bar/restaurant but not restaurant and bar. read more

Bar B was such an incredible find in Chelsea- inexpensive, genuine, friendly staff and SUCH. GOOD. food. It is standing room only, the restaurant is basically just a narrow bar and if you stand towards the end you get to watch your food being made. It's mostly small plates. My boyfriend and I came without a reservation and they took us right away. At first I was a little weary of standing throughout dinner, but you don't even notice. Did I mention how inexpensive this place was? Highly recommended! read more

I've been here a couple of times and it is great if you want to get something good and fast. You stand by the bar, so do not expect to spend a lot of time here. They cook right in front of you so it is a pretty cool experience too. The restaurant is owned by the same people that own Basta Pasta. We have literally tried almost everything on their menu and everything is so good. The service here is also pretty good. read more

Standing room only but worth it! Great happy hour deals and on weekends, too! They had a good glass of rose for $5. Their ricotta crostini was really good!! They also had the most amazing dessert - chestnut creme brûlée! It was one of the best desserts ever! Service was great - all the bartenders were attentive and friendly. If they only had seating...but would still definitely return! read more

This a lovely place to hang out, especially late on a midweek night when it's quiet. It's very small, and I'm guessing when it's busy it would be uncomfortable. There are no tables, no chairs, just standing at the counter. Apart from the loveliness of the staff and atmosphere, the food is just about perfect. Best was the bagna cauda (which is anchovies simmered in heavy cream and butter till they've completely dissolved, served as a dip for leaves and asparagus). The only thing there that disappointed was the croquette-buerger (their extra 'e' in the spelling), tho other reviewers had that as their favorite item. read more

We arrived in the early evening and were immediately seated at a corner table near the window. Anna, our ever attentive waitress, was able to go through the specials of the day and walk us through her favorite items. We ended up with three pasta dishes - two of them paired with fresh truffles that had arrived from Italy that morning - and finished off with a wonderful affogato (decaf espresso is an option!). We would've returned to try their ribeye as it isn't but had to catch our early flight home. Thanks again for having us, Anna & Da Andrea! We hope to visit soon in the near future. 10/10 - would recommend.

We called the very next morning and were told our bag had been FOUND and was being held in Lost & Found. We were specifically told to come pick it up. So, as out-of-town visitors staying in New Jersey, we spent nearly $100 on an Uber and several hours of our day returning to retrieve it. When we arrived, the bag had mysteriously vanished. What followed was one of the most ridiculous customer service experiences I've ever had. We were met by a group of very young, completely unprepared hostesses who seemed utterly clueless about the situation. Nobody knew where the bag was. Nobody knew who had logged it. Nobody knew who we spoke to on the phone. Nobody appeared interested in finding answers. I repeatedly asked for a manager and got nowhere. It felt like nobody in the building had the authority, training, or desire to solve a problem that their own staff created. Let's review: Your employee tells us the bag is there. We spend nearly $100 on transportation to come get it. We arrive. The bag is gone. And the response is essentially a collection of blank stares and shoulder shrugs. No urgency. No accountability. No explanation. No solution. I've never seen a business so casually waste a customer's time and money. We left feeling completely dismissed and frankly wondering whether anyone at Fraunces Tavern has any idea what customer service is supposed to look like. Hundreds of dollars spent at the establishment. Nearly $100 spent returning because we trusted what we were told. And in the end, absolutely nothing except aggravation, frustration, and a complete loss of confidence in this business. One of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had.

Everyone knows what this is like and it's to be expected in life, but NOT at a high-end restaurant where you've paid a significant margin above the average meal, and don't even get a full pita. Guys, do some QC and soul-searching - and be generous with pita.

It was the first time I went to a bar with no seats in Manhattan. It felt a bit weird with no sitting but it wasn't that bad and they had hooks where you can hang your bag/coat. The staff behind the bar are really nice. They know how to read the mood. If you just want to have a chat with your friend they don't bother you, yet they are always open for conversation. The food is very tasty, but this certainly isn't the type of place to get fed, but the bite sized items and menu make it a great place have a good time. read more

So cool! No seats! One counter, they squeeze u in for sure but it's very cool vibes. Everyone is friendly , everyone sipping on wine. Food is insane , one chef was cranking it out for the whole place (counter lol). Scallops were my favorite .
