    Cinnamon roll

I've been here twice since they opened. Oh my goodness gracious. So good. The breakfast was divine. I had the kefir and my friend and I split the cinnamon roll which tasted like it had just come out of the oven. When I went for dinner, we ordered some charcuterie which our server/barkeep helped us to choose. She also was amazingly knowledgeable about the wine which always helps this wine dunce!! The setting is beautifully decorated--a bit loud for this aging woman--but I literally will go there in a heartbeat!

This is Betsy's younger sister, opened just a few weeks ago. It's in the same building as Betsy, a print/copy shop separate them. Bar Betsy is an all-day place; it's a coffee/breakfast/lunch cafe 8am-3pm, then segues into an evening wine bar with snacks, cheeses and charcuterie. The space is beautifully done and decorated with custom woodwork done by a good friend of proprietor Tyler Wells; it's overall a bit brighter and airier than Betsy. It's also not live fire. They were not too crowded when I came shortly after opening on a weekday; I'm sure weekends are another story. In the morning the low front counter displays the day's baked goods, and then becomes another seating area later on. There are tables inside and out, plus a long counter with seating. I ordered many things; here's the low-down. Note I'm not a coffee drinker. 1) orange juice squeezed right before my eyes from a bowl of Schauer Farms oranges. What else can be said? 2) strawberry muffin. Soft with crispy edges, still warm! Was that cornmeal in the mix? 3) almond cookie. A ball covered in confectioner's sugar with a cherry in the middle! 4) Marsh Hen grits. This dish had a tomato confit before, now it has a tomatillo salsa, plus bacon, cilantro (the menu says scallions) and an optional poached egg. Delish. 5) Grain bowl with rouge de Bordeaux, English peas, avocado, Japanese sweet potatoes (not listed on the menu), onion, greens, feta, sumac (egg optional). Another winner. 6) Roasted carrot sandwich on house-made stecca bread with romesco, tahini, sprouts. Unique and tangy! I want to try pretty much every other dish on the daytime menu, and most on the evening menu as well, although I'm not a wine person. I was told about, had read about, and took a peek at the produce garden they have planted in the former nursery space of former neighbour Altadena Hardware, lost in the Eaton fire. The building's charred skeleton was still seen for months after Betsy's opening, but is now gone. The garden also has a long communal table for private events. I read Mr. Wells has big plans for another restaurant space in mid-city (Melrose Hill). Let's hope he needs the Betsy's and Altadena as much as Altadena needs them.

Little Betsy is open all day and serves up breakfast lunch and dinner as a bar. We came for a bar dinner and really enjoyed the tapas sized side dishes which were just right for light dining. Wine is the main drink of choice and I found that women met at this bar in groups or by themselves; I think I was the only guy that was not a cook or waiter.

What a wonderful addition to our neighborhood! We had dinner reservations at Betsy (separate review) but our seats weren't ready so we went to BarBetsy for a glass of wine. They have very recently opened, and it's absolutely lovely! The room itself is beautiful, and I especially loved the big lantern in the ceiling. We were welcomed to sit anywhere, even though we said we just wanted a drink while waiting for our table, which I loved. They pour very interesting wines by the glass, and we got to have a taste before we committed to a glass. They were delicious, the service was so friendly, and the bites menu looked super interesting, but we didn't order anything because of our upcoming dinner reservation. Love the concept of a breakfast & coffee spot in the morning (a friend said their grits dish was incredible) and a wine bar at night. I hope they are very successful!

Came back and had the eggs on toast, which was extremely good and I will definitely be getting again. Service was excellent both times. Bar Betsy will definitely be a frequent visit for me.

Bar Betsy's wine and coffee menu is accompanied by sandwiches, breakfast toasts, kefir bowls, and cheese boards full of fresh, local in-season ingredients presented in refreshing, vivid combinations that will pique your curiosity and delight your palate. Unique, beautiful pastries are baked fresh every morning, along with a light and fluffy olive-oil bread used to prepare Bar Betsy's signatures sandwiches. Almond milk is also made in-house, to accompany rich espresso and coffee. Bags of single-origin coffee and espresso blends are available for sale. Orange juice and lemonade are squeezed in-house with citrus from Schaner Family Farms in Valley Center, CA. Bar Betsy balances its warm, inviting, community atmosphere with an elegant menu and decor, for an elevated, intimate dining experience. The interior decor is charming and photogenic, full of eclectic wood furniture and lush flower arrangements with local botanicals like kangaroo paw and love-in-a-mist. Staff are friendly, helpful, and excited to help you find the perfect meal that will hit the spot for you -- it feels like food prepared by your friends and neighbors. Simple elements like ham and tiny pickles, roasted carrots with tahini, and market-fresh tomatoes with strawberries, burrata, and herbs deliver clean, well-sourced ingredients that elevate comfort-food flavors to fine dining. The rotating menu of in-season treats will keep you coming back for another taste!

Great place to have a light snack. The ham sandwich sure hit the spot. The shabby shoe is delicious. The olives helped cleanse the palate. Parking is on the street

Wonderful new cafe/bar. Cafe by day, with coffees, pastries, and other food items. Bar by night. What a great new addition to the neighborhood. The space is so warm and inviting, and everything is delicious. We live very close, and so have gone there a few mornings in a row. We've sampled their cappuccinos, strawberry pastries, and chocolate cookies. Obviously, a lot of thought and care has gone into Bar Betsy.

Jeremy was our bartender and he was fantastic. Super chill and friendly and made us some amazing drinks based on a few preferences. Our "bartenders choice" drinks were amazing, so much so that our "drink to end the night" turned into two drinks and some appetizers. We ordered taquitos and mozzarella sticks. When we walked in, there was a tall, bald male bartender and a blonde female bartender working--neither of whom I've seen here before. We ordered two drinks, but the service from the male bartender was inattentive from the start. At one point, my friend tried to get someone's attention to ask for a lime and wasn't acknowledged. She ended up grabbing a lime herself from the garnish tray--which I understand isn't ideal--but the response we got was completely out of line. The male bartender became immediately hostile and started aggressively cursing at my friend. When I calmly asked the female bartender if this was normal behavior, he inserted himself into the conversation and said, "she put her fucking hand in the fucking jar," in a very confrontational tone. I tried to de-escalate the situation and respectfully explained that there was no reason to speak to us that way, but he continued the hostility and ultimately told us to "get the fuck out." At that point, I paid for our drinks and we left. What made this especially disappointing is that this has never been our experience here before. We've always enjoyed this bar and have had positive interactions with the regular staff. If this had been my first visit, I would not come back. I understand that what my friend did wasn't appropriate, but it absolutely did not justify being yelled at and cursed out. I hope management addresses this, because this kind of behavior is not reflective of the bar I've come to know.

The atmosphere up there during golden hour is really nice, especially overlooking Pasadena with a drink and good food. Definitely feels upscale and stylish without trying too hard. Service was friendly and the overall vibe made it easy to relax and enjoy the evening. The only part of the experience that felt a little unusual was the payment process when charging the meal to my hotel room. I was asked to provide ID despite already being a registered guest at the property. I've been staying at Marriott hotels for well over a decade, including higher-end brands and resorts, and this was honestly the first time I've encountered that. I even asked about it and was told it was because sometimes people "forget they aren't guests at the hotel" when trying to charge meals to rooms. The staff member was polite, but the explanation honestly felt a bit odd and made the interaction feel slightly uncomfortable compared to what I'm used to at Marriott properties. That aside, I'd definitely come back. Great rooftop spot for dinner, drinks, sunset views, and a really solid date night atmosphere in Pasadena.

Being in a party of 4 girls coming from high tea, we were dressed in elegant dresses, first comment was asking if we were coming from church, followed by eye flutters, short "okay" with an upward inflation to a joke about the day, an impatient comment about hurrying up and trying the wine while we were talking, asked for water when we were out, were left to pour the rest of our wine, didn't ask how the food was all the while was attentive to the table behind us, the cherry on top comment was when we were discussing the bill at the end, he was hovering at the table behind ours, then when we were ready, we asked to split the bill into 2, my portion on mine and the rest on another card, he then said "this isn't like a drive through, we can't do it that way" so I asked him to explain his comment, cause it was passive agressive and rude. After he wasnt able to becuase he wasnt expecting me to call out his rude comment, I had to then break it down and specify what I had ordered, he then sold "okayyyy....so how much, cause we don't itemize?" I had to again express for him to specify how they do it cause he has still yet to explain where his attitude is coming from and explain how they do their check splits, from my understanding it just felt like he wanted to play dumb and make me to the math, one I did he was like "ohh, okay" should have asked for the manager but we paid and left, I hasnt had this experience before being a returning customer, but he needs an attitude adjustment as his attitude was completely out of pocket. Do better Manuel, you alone got your place of work a 1 star. The rest of the staff was kind, facility beautiful and food and wine was good. This restaurant is not reflected in the 1 star.
