After reading mixed reviews, decided to give this place a shot. Not very promising from the outside, but they did what they could with the building, and I have to say- seems like someone put effort in to make the interior feel warm and welcoming. All that aside, Im here for the food. Food and drinks were delicious and well prepared (thank you to the chef). The Wagyu burger hit the spot, cooked to requested temp perfectly. Crab bisque is more of a tomato bisque with crab. The wait for food was a bit long ..possibly understaffed as I only saw one person running the bar and the other was running the entire dining area. It sounded like the kitchen was a one-man show also. I came prepared for a longer wait time based on prior reviews so it was ok. When you think of Great dive. You think golf Greg Louganis and the 1984 Olympics. Still considered the greatest diver ever. Well I found a l other great Dive. The Bar Bistro in Tacoma Washington of all places. I was pretty hesitant to go to this literal whole in the wall because of its location. Not being mean when I say sketchy area. In fact that's being nice. I believe the history of this quaint little place was a biker bar. A tough biker bar. So when we arrived I made sure the car was locked and I was aware of my surroundings. Didn't want to catch a stray bullet or something worse. I entered the front door snd much yo my surprise I was in a very well remodeled little bar with about a dozen or more tables. The walks were grey. Pretty industrial looking. The bar was cool. They were playing 80's mtv videos. That was cool. I must disclose the reason we even went to this parkland establishment was I had ordered dinner that was delivered on Monday. It was off the charts good. So here we are Wednesday eating there. I went through the menu. Great options. Elk burgers. Scallops. Shrimp. All appetizers. We tried all of them but the muscles. All were very good. Well prepared. Fir dinner I had the spinach salad and then I filet. Both were prepared perfectly. They had a potato type wedge. Amazing. The wine list was good. Had a very nice range. We drank a 2019 quilceeda creek ad a 2018 Spottswoode. The service was amazing. Even though they were short staffed. Ver attentive and hustled. Yup. I think this is a great Dive. In fact I think we name this place the Greg Louganis. A must see in my book. read more

We have visited Bar Bistro twice and both times we have come to try the Paella but they have sold out both times. Evidently it's one of their most popular items on the menu. I ordered the Angus Burger and my significant other ordered the Cuban Sandwich . Both menu items were absolutely amazing!!! The meat on the Angus Burger was so tender and juicy and so delicious !!! I will definitely order the Angus Burger again in the near future. The staff are extremely friendly and knowledgeable about everything pertaining to their menu. Zach was our server and he was so friendly and possessed an upbeat personality. Keep up the good work Zach. The restaurant is very spacious and exceptionally clean. Please give this restaurant a try. I stumbled upon this little place by a happy accident when looking for a spot offering gluten free selections for lunch. My friend and I came to check it out and thoroughly enjoyed our lunch and great service. So when, on a recent weekend, the husband and I found ourselves in the area with rumbling bellies, this was my first suggestion. From the outside you wouldn't think it's much. It is in an older part of town and could easily pass as a little sports bar just serving up deep fried pub food, but this couldn't be farther from the truth. The inside has a fun vibe with a beautiful neon lit bar and metal industrial accents. The menu is an intriguing concoction of PNW fusions. Their take on the dishes they serve is out of the box and puts a unique flair on just about everything. The first time I was here I was able to order the crab bisque, which was delicious! For some reason the second time we were here, the server said it has gluten and the recipe had been altered. Sad day. The street tacos from my first visit were great but the angus burger my friend had eaten was on my mind. I went for the burger served over lettuce but they do have gf buns available if you're craving some gf noms. The burger had great flavor and the aioli was delish. The husband went for the chorizo Mac and cheese which was presented beautifully and he did a pretty decent job of cleaning his plate. The server my first visit was phenomenal. Friendly and pleasant. Inside quaint, nice, and some modern touches. Ordered drinks, appetizer (fried brie), dinner and even a dessert. Cocktails were superb. I ordered the korean bbq ribs which came with a homestyle fried rice and Mexican street corn. Should have brought dental floss. Food was amazing. Large portion so had some to go which we had for dinner. Dessert I got the carrot cake. I envisioned a slice of Costco carrot cake coming to the table. Not the case. Had a ladies night here with 10 women. No complaints whatsoever on the cocktails. Tasty as well as so beautiful. Baked brie appetizer was good and I'm not a brie lover. Everyone's dish looked beautiful, presentation couldn't be better, with one exception, my Cuban sandwich. Just seemed to be put together haphazardly. It was sort of all over the place and in addition to that, the pork was so dry it took away from the sandwich. Pork should be moist and succulent but was anything but. Michael, our waitperson, was awesome and took half the price off the sandwich. What I should have ordered was the steak. Flavor was tremendous. Beignets were so so. My girlfriend and I shared an order and they were pretty heavy. Carrot cake looked delicious, but was somewhat lacking in flavor. If I came back I would have the same drink but order completely differently on the menu. Don't know if that will happen though, although I know they seem to take a lot of pride in what they do. Every single item we ordered was cooked to almost perfection. The elk sliders were delicious and the tartness/sweetness from the jam really enhances their flavors. The seafood paella was great. Deceiving!! The location made me think WTF... why am i going to a random hole-in the wall saloon? I was really shocked .. The food is top notch and is a TOTAL HIDDEN GEM of Tacoma with comparable prices. If it were not for my coworkers inviting me down there it would not be on my scope of places to try. We started with deep fried brie, caprese flatbread, then for main course I ordered the crab mac n cheese, crab bisque and for dessert: beignets and strawberry cheesecake. The brie was creamy in the inside, unexpected "crisp" on the outside; its then finished with a drizzle of honey, this could be a meal in itself, its beautifully plated, paired well with the apples, blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, baguette toasts, and nuts. The caprese flatbread was crisp, spread with pesto, arugula, mozzarella , roma tomatoes drizzled with olive oil. The crab bisque was creamy, and thick like choweder style.. full to the mouth and not fishy. My main course: the crab mac n cheese was uhhh-amazing!! the cheese tasted like local aged cheddar, similar to beechers, the crab quantity was generous +$13 and not overcooked, pesto is added to the edges to really blend in a different level and dimension to the mac n cheese; the crab only complimented it. Today, we went to celebrate my 36th birthday. I haven't been here in years. I lived around the area and visited this place when they had their grand opening. I saw it progressively get busier since I last been here so my hopes were the establishment is doing well, which made me happy because I enjoy supporting local businesses. TLDR- Food is good but my goodness the service and wait is horrible. I've been in the restaurant industry for 13 years and from my perspective, the communication between the servers and bartenders is nonexistent. It's literally a free for all in service. We watched people who sat after eat their meal, pay, and leave - while we were here for an extra half an hour. It killed our vibe and we just wanted to get out of there. So unfortunate. Edit: to add - we waited so long to receive our check only to find out it wasn't even correct. At that point, we were like screw it - we'll just Venmo each other the incorrect charges. We were brought a breadbasket with different butters, roasted garlic and balsamic vinegar. We were only going to have appetizer and beverage but decided to order entrees. What a great place in the middle of BFE. There's a lot of fast food and crap in the area. This place is heads and shoulders above that. There's a chef there that really knows that they're doing. Great choice of new American dishes. I tried the crab cakes, crab bisque, lamb shank and tagliatelle pasta with beef cheeks and burrata. Everything was great. This might be hard to believe, but Bar Bistro has the best ribeye. I've had ribeyes at dozens of high quality restaurants around here, Vegas, Mexico, everywhere. This one is my favorite. The chipotle butter on top or whatever that is, so good. The potatoes and brussel sprouts to go with it, phenomenal. I never order anything different here because this is so good. Their spicy ranch dressing on their salad is very good as well. It can get really noisy in there, hard to hear the person you're eating with, that's the only knock I have on this place. read more

But were left with a bit of a sour taste in our mouths this visit. Rather than leave a negative review somewhere I wanted to come directly to bar bistro with a message on Instagram. Unfortunately they didn't care to respond so I'm leaving a negative review now. Upon entering the restaurant, with a reservation. We requested a different table that was at the bar, when the host said that the table was held because they have a lot of reservations I understood as a former host and assumed that she was holding the table for a larger party maybe of three or more. I was extremely surprised when I noticed that she ended up putting a party of two, same size as my party at the table I had requested. My partner and I were disappointed, but are pretty regular patrons of bar bistro so wanted to stay to enjoy our meal. Our sever checked on the table directly to our right three times before greeting us. And an additional two times before stopping to ask if we were ready to order drinks, let alone food. Which by that time we had decided on everything. We had been served by Zach before and had received better service, so we were confused as to what was different this time. As we continued dining, we could see the tables around us getting more prompt and friendlier service. It wasn't until the end that Zach recognized us as regular guests and started to converse and warm up to us but by then we were already discouraged and disappointed. I really hope that in the future ALL guests are treated with the same respect and kindness. As a regular guest I know that bar bistro can do better. I do not want to stop coming to bar bistro as it has become one of my favorite go to places for a good meal and atmosphere. But at this point I feel extremely disappointed with how they've treated us, and have responded to their lack of proper since. I expect to be treated with respect and proper service when I dine and tip a generous tip for proper service. However apparently that isn't in the goal of this restaurant. read more

I originally had reservations here for my birthday, but they were cancelled due to extended maintenance going on. The owner called explaining everything and apologizing for the inconvenience + offered a gift card for my future visit which was extremely appreciated. I finally got to go here for dinner one night and the owner remembered our conversation/my name without me having to bring anything up which was very nice. I appreciate how attentive and kind everyone working here is. On to the food: we ordered the deep fried brie and the birria flatbread for appetizers - AMAZING. I had low expectations for the appetizers and they ended up being my favorite part of the entire meal. For the entrees we had the grilled ribeye with roasted potatoes and brussel sprouts + the buffalo burger w/fries. Pretty solid. For dessert we had the strawberry cheesecake which was a little disappointing in size.. it was just a tiny slice, but good overall. The inside is very much a bar/casual vibe I felt very close to everyone as more people started arriving even though we were at our own table. I have visited twice. Each time was pretty darn good. I love that. Recently went on a date. Made a reservation for the patio. Server was a dude with a long beard that was hella nice and entertained my dates questions with grace. We had crab cakes that have actual crab. Not immitation. They were really good. With good tartar. He had the halibut with risotto and asparagus. Of course I had a bite. It's was fire. I might order that next time. I had the paella. My daughter and I took my husband here for Father's Day and they fit us in although we didn't have reservations. I can't thank them enough for doing that. It's a very plain looking building outside with a well decorated interior. All the staff was friendly and inviting, could not have asked for better service. We started with the fried Brie and it was so good, almost dessert like. My daughter and husband has the gnocchi and I had the duck. Everything was very delicious. Presentation was beautiful as well. Last night my boyfriend and I went to Bar Bistro for date night. I was so excited to come here, as I've never been. My boyfriend has been here before, multiple times. He would always boast about how great the food was, so good, so worth it, etc. I couldn't wait. When we arrived last night at 6:30 for our reservation, the wait staff was moving extra slow. Along with the kitchen. The drinks were really good, and so were the appetizers. But my boyfriend got the seafood paella and I got the filet mignon. It took over an hour for our food to arrive, it was not a busy night. The seafood in the paella was not cleaned, the fish was dry, clams not cleaned, etc. My boyfriend found a rock or a Pearl in his paella. The rice in the dish was hard and salty. As for my filet... I wanted it medium rare. And it was pretty well done and cooked through unfortunately. The asparagus burnt to a crisp. Overall, very disappointed. Our tab was around $150 and not worth it. Such a shame. We won't be back. Oh, and multiple other tables who arrived AFTER us (and one table even got the same dish as my boyfriend) got their food before us. It shouldn't take over an hour to cook a steak and some seafood. read more

This is easily one of my favorite restaurants in Tacoma. I tell everyone about this restaurant. I moved to Arizona but always make it a priority to come back to bar bistro when I'm in town in Tacoma visiting friends and fam. Service is always impeccable. The charred romaine salad is sooooooo good. Just amazing. I do want to say their Mac and cheese use to be my favorite thing is the world. Death row meal. I went in June of 23 and it was still amazing as it's been since 2018 ish when I first started coming here. But I went in October of 23 and their mac changed and not for the better :( it was missing that delicious green sauce and the way it cooked wasn't as good.
