    Fresh grilled shrimp tacos

Had lunch at Bar Frites with a colleague--clearly a popular lunch spot and easy to see why. Classic French bistro vibe, attentive service, and fresh, well-prepared food. We went with salads and shrimp tacos, both flavorful and nicely presented. Plenty of parking in a high-end shopping lot, which makes it convenient for a weekday lunch. Prices are in line with similar upscale spots.

We went for Sunday lunch at Bar Frites, which we have been numerous times. Both the cuisine and the service are consistently excellent. The cuisine has a hint of real French flavor and style. There is sitting both indoors and outdoors during the warmer months. Parking at the strip center can be a little crowded, but it's seldom an issue.

One of my favorite restaurant experiences lately. They have outdoor and inside seating and we sat outside which was nice and the inside was beautiful. The service is great and they make sure your glass is never empty. Their espresso martinis are delicious! We started with the escargot (a first time experience for me) and they were out of this world flavorful! I loved every single bite and dipped bread in the oil they were bathed in. The tuna tartare was super fresh and delicious. The steak frites were perfectly cooked and the French fries were so delicious. The Caesar salad was basic but so delicious. The lava cake was perfect- warm and gooey! Super choclately I loved it. The creme brûlée was so sweet and yummy. I can't wait to come back!

The start of the experience was weird with the host making an awkward comment about whether he could "make me happy" by seating us early because we came 10 min early. He also just seemed like a jerk. The servers were nice and polite though. We got a booth which I liked. It was busy on a Saturday night with a lively bar and happening music. The menu is eclectic ranging from chicken parm to French to salads to fish tacos. It made my husband and I skeptical about whether it would be good but we stuck to the French food and really enjoyed it! The bread basket was basic and good, plain well cooked French bread and butter. I had the Malbec and my husband had the Bordeaux which were both good but not great, with a generous pour we appreciated. The coconut curry mussels had an amazing sauce that I would definitely want again that came with perfect French fries. The filet mignon was a little smaller than I hoped it would be, but was perfectly cooked and seasoned and came with perfect French fries and good but not great sauce. The French onion soup was good but I don't know if I would order it again just because the sauce was a little watered down and it was more cheese than onion but it was good. Overall we were really impressed with this restaurant mainly because of the coconut mussels. Would definitely come again, we had a great date night there!

This was a fine place to stop in for a quick lunch in the area. We were pretty simple and all ordered different salads. I got the Greek salad and thought it was pretty good. It was nice that it had a big chunk of feta cheese and enough olives. The service was helpful and relatively fast given our time crunch. Our waiter was kind and gave us iced teas to go as we paid the bill. My parents said their salads were fine. My dad's Caesar salad was a little bland and could have used some more cheese (in his mind). A last thing to note was the difference of the two spaces. The outdoor patio was roomy and comfortable and where we sat. Inside was pretty cramped and it was very tight getting back to the bathroom.

Parking and making reservations for a party of 12 was relatively easy. The restaurant has a French gastropub look and has a lot of foot traffic. Their mussels, escargot, and clam oreganata were tasty but nothing out of the ordinary. Most of their dishes were good, my favorite was their French dip. It was one of the tastiest au jus I've had. Its consistency was perfect, it was not too thick (some restaurants are heavy with the corn starch) and a little more to the watery side which allows the bread to soak it up). It had a satisfying amount of roast beef in each bite. The linguine with wine clam sauce was also really good. However, that is rarely a dish a restaurant can mess up on. The tuna bowl wasn't bad, they could've added a few dashes of sesame oil or seaweed flakes to incorporate some Asian influence to the dish. The kids enjoyed their chicken strips with French fries and pasta dishes. Their apple tarte tatin was surprisingly very good considering it was one of the flatter tatins I've seen. The thin slices of apples went very well with their flaky crunchy tart crust. They topped it with vanilla ice cream which completes the bite. Their crème brûlée was good, what I would expect from any crème brûlée, nothing extraordinary. The food did take a long time to come out. Our kids were finished with their meals when our appetizers came out.

Decided to come to Bar Frites with my daughter & her friend for dinner since it was close by. This was probably the most disappointing Poll restaurant I've ever tried in the area. 2 stars bc the staff were friendly & service was great, but honestly, the food was not good. We ordered 3 entrées- a cheeseburger, hanger steak, and pappardelle bolognese. Everything came out within a reasonable time. However, the burger and steak were terrible. Idk how you can mess up a burger- the pickle wasn't cut, the bread was oily, meat was too rare, and juices were squirting out everywhere. The steak was disgusting- it was chewy and had an almost liver-like flavor. Not to mention, the pomme frites that came with those entrées were soggy. My pappardelle bolognese was alright- it was bland, at least the ground meats tasted fresh. Sad to say, this will be my first and last time here.

    Chinese chicken salad
    Dona F.

Came during weekend brunch hours - group of 6 Very very noisy and crowded Located in a stopping strip center so plenty of parking Starters - Chinese chicken salad was large enough for all 6 to have a nice portion. Light wonderful flavor dressing - bread and pastry basket. Had very interesting mini pastries but didn't see any bread so they put some down for the table. - challah French toast with berries. Delicious - mushroom quiche- very moist - burger without bun looked a little overcooked to me - roast beef sandwich with fries looked amazing. I was jealous. I'll get that next time. Desert - we all shared a drop of strawberry napoleon which was amazing!! Not your typical napoleon. Good coffee. Great service. Not overly expensive.

A lovely modern French restaurant in Manhasset. It's been a staple in this neighborhood for 55+…read moreyears. There's also a separate lounge and bar area if you want to skip the formal dining room and just want light tapas and drinks. Their website says everything is made in house including the desserts. I had dinner here once before but it's been a hot minute since (my pre-Yelp days). This visit was for a friend's birthday and I wanted to introduce French cuisine to her. It was a brisk night out but nice and warm inside. Parking lot is located in the rear of the shopping plaza where this restaurant is located. Onto the food: we started with cocktails and ordered wine to pair with our dinner. For starters, we ordered the poached artichoke gratinee. The presentation was quite pretty, seasoned with chives, parsley, and Parmesan crumbs. I love most foods with cheese! Not shy about that! We also ordered the Hudson Valley foie gras, paired with a port poached pear and honey served with a cranberry brioche. It's an acquired taste that I really enjoy but if you're not into liver, then this dish is not for you. My friends never had foie gras so I ordered this to introduce it to them. This was also the swap since they didn't want escargot (overplayed by reputation for the cuisine). The third appetizer we chose was the crispy octopus. So many flavors in that plate, think olives, red pepper hummus and potatoes served with it. This was a great shareable dish and the dish was delicious as well as appetizing. For dinner: we shared all three entrees, 1) Herb crusted Rack of lamb, which I ordered medium temp. Divine! 2) Veal Chatelaine had a nice chestnuts and sherry sauce, very tender, and 3) Filet of Sole en croute, which the fish was moist and tucked inside the pastry shell. A bit thicker pastry than expected but the first was nicely seasoned. For dessert as I said, it was a friends' birthday...so despite all that food, we ordered three desserts to share as well. The Pistachio Tartufo, the Tiramisu and the creme brulee. All were delicious for the flavor profiles they were but I definitely preferred the creme brulee. The Pistachio Tartufo was really good - packed a lot of flavor. The tiramisu was light and airy.

We found a charming and lovely restaurant with delightful French cooking. The deal really can't be beat. The small buffet area was ample both with options and flavor! She asked if we wanted a salad and choice of soups that they had for the day. They were brought out from the kitchen with a basket of rolls. We chose the creme of leeks soup. So warm and comforting! On the buffet: Turkey meatballs Chicken Dijon sauce Mussels & Clams Garlic sauce Also some sliced and cubed cheese were out on the buffet. For dessert they had small portions of bread pudding to help yourself to. We ate until we could eat no more! Marie was very kind and attentive. We were not rushed at all. We had a relaxing and pleasant lunch date. Honestly, if they were closer than us, I'd be there all the time. Maybe for dinner the next time! I ordered UberEats from them before and was blown away by the tremendous offerings and generous portions. I decided to dine in and it was even better! The restaurant is located on the busy Northern Blvd between Morgan and Glenwood. The inside has a 19th century French ambiance, decorated with French posters, carpeted floors and a cozy warm dining area. Don't worry about the never ending traffic noise, commotion , and construction coming from outside. The calm and peaceful ambiance along with the music playing in the restaurant canceled out all the exterior noise. I opted in for their lunch buffet, which offered a ton of food for an amazing $18.95 deal which you can hardly find in this day and age. The restaurant gave a nice basket of warm bread with a generous amount of butter in a ramekin followed by a really good Tunisian salad with a little bit of everything. (fresh greens, cooked carrots, chickpea salad, diced cucumbers peppers and their take on the Ratatouille-- really good) I was given the option of getting their daily soup or the French Onion Soup with an up charge. I took the French option soup without any hesitation. Last time I had a good French onion soup was back when I attended college in upstate. Glad I got to try the one from here. The onion soup has an abundance of flavor with a generous amount of melted cheese and onions. The buffet selections were at the table. It came with two entrees (a chicken and a beef) cooked vegetables, mussels, mixed rice, cheese selection and slices bread cake. The entrees vary each day so be sure to call in and check. The chicken was moist, and juicy, served with a mushroom gravy. Similar to a Chicken Marsala dish. The stewed beef with mushrooms was nice and soft. The veggies included carrots and onions. The mussels were cooked to perfection, simmered in a nice buttery sauce. The meal also includes a cup of coffee or tea. What a great way to finish the meal. Marie was super nice and friendly. She gave me some insights on the food and the different menus they have on different days. A great establishment going strong for 47 years! Thank you Marie for everything. I will definitely be returning with my family.

Had an early Valentine's Day dinner with the wife the day before Valentine's Day. Brasserie Memere…read moreis an upscale French restaurant located in the Target plaza of Closter. The lighting is dim, the ambiance is intimate, and it looks romantic. I had made reservations so we were seated immediately. It's funny to note that the place settings were placed next to each other instead of across from each other at a four person table. We usually prefer to face each other, but when it's Valentine's day why not be cute? We ordered a few drinks during our dinner, the Sugar Plum Fairy, Memere 75, Avion en papier. My favorite was definitely the Avion en papier which had a slightly sweet, slightly bitter, citrusy taste. They had a pre fixe menu for Valentine's Day which unfortunately did not have the steak tartare i was interested in trying. But for $88, you get 3 courses: an appetizer, entree, and dessert. For our appetizers, we got the TARTARE DE THON (tuna tartare) and COCKTAIL DE CREVETTES GEANTES (shirmp cocktail). Between the two, i preferred the tuna tartare. The shrimp cocktail was good, but the only thing really special about it was the massive size of the shrimp and the freshly grated horseradish in the cocktail sauce. For our entrees, we got the CASSOULET DE CANARD and FILET MIGNON. The extremely tender duck leg confit was served with pancetta, white beans, toulouse sausage, and foie gras breadcrumb. It was rich, savory, fatty, and filling. All great words to describe food. The duck leg confit reminded me a little bit of a smoked turkey leg with the red coloring and shreddable texture. The filet mignon was served with pomme purée, wild mushrooms, and a bordelaise sauce. The filet was cooked medium rare as requested, but a bit under salted. The pomme purée aka mashed potatoes tasted like it was 50% butter so it was obviously delicious. Dessert was good, but my least favorite part of the meal. We got the TAHITIAN VANILLA CRÈME BRÛLÉE and the VALRHONA CHOCOLAT POT AU CRÈME. Both were very sweet. The brûlée crust did not shatter well, but it otherwise had a nice creamy texture. The chocolate pot was covered in flaky feuilletine which gave a nice contrast to the creamy chocolate, but my wife found the brandied cherries overpowering. The cherries made me think of German chocolate cake. Service was excellent. Staff was quick to refill water and checked on us constantly. Pace of the meal was relaxed and I'd even say they were slow to bring us the check since we had been dining for over 2 hours. My wife wants me to bring her back for their bottomless brunch on a Sunday so I will eventually be back.
