We had such a delicious meal here! They're known for their tuna tartare and French onion soup, and both definitely lived up to the hype. The tuna tartare was so fresh, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned, while the French onion soup was rich, comforting, and absolutely delicious. We also ordered the ribeye steak, which was incredibly flavorful and cooked perfectly. We got the asparagus and potatoes au gratin as sides, and both were so good. The potatoes au gratin were creamy and delicious, and the asparagus was cooked perfectly. The service was also very good, friendly, attentive, and made for a great overall experience. My only complaint was that the lighting was pretty bright, which took away a little from the romantic ambiance. Let me start off by saying the staff was wonderful. My only caveat was we came for happy hour, there were minimal seats left. I thought it was strange that the owner continued to sit on her laptop and not give her seat to customers or acknowledge us while watching us try to find a seat. The manager was kind and tried to accommodate us while we waited. That aside, Betsy the bartender was so sweet, as was the server who eventually carried our drinks over to the bar. Let me tell you about the food. She lets us get in our happy hour order at 6 on the dot. We got the grilled oysters, tuna tartare, and the endive au gratin. The grilled oysters were so buttery yet fresh and the tuna was cold and refreshing. The endive was like nothing I had before. The texture reminded me of an artichoke heart and paired with the ham was surprisingly so good. The drinks were also very well made, thanks to Betsy. I highly recommend but if you're going to happy hour the bar definitely fills up quick. We tried a number of things at this french bistro in the town of oyster bay: bread, escargot, french onion soup, tuna tartar and filet mignon with bearnaise sauce. All were very good and nothing was disappointing. The cocktail we tried was also much better than you get at most similar restaurants. The service was excellent - friendly and attentive. I was really excited to try this restaurant. I love French food and there just aren't a lot of spots on LI serving traditional French cuisine. First impression walking in was that it was a pretty space with coffered ceilings and beautiful lighting. After were seated and ordered drinks our waiter returned to let us know that they were unable to make a Kir, a classic French cocktail made with crème de cassis. I consider this odd for a spot marketing themselves as a French restaurant and cocktail bar. So I ordered a cocktail with something called Italicus. When I inquired as to what that exactly was, I was simply told it was a liqueur, which was the obvious assumption...& when I asked what kind of liqueur it was, the waiter had no idea. Let me save you the pain dear reader and tell you that it's a bergemot liqueur that is floral and more sour than sweet. Moving on to the meal. Food was good but not great with a few misses. The cheese plate was tiny and not up to snuff quality wise for the price point. There are so many AMAZING French cheeses. Maybe a collab with a local cheesemonger would be helpful? The mussels in mustard sauce were excellent but please, for the love of all that is holy, serve them with bowls instead of small plates so that the sauce doesn't go everywhere. And also, give the people bread to lap up all of the delicious sauce. We asked for it but it never came, sigh. The Coquille was tasty with a delicious sauce but the number of scallops served in the dish appears to have dwindled from 5 to 3, which was not noted on the menu or mentioned by the server. I cannot stand a bait and switch so L'Etoile if you read this, when you post photos of dishes on your official socials, then that is the dish I am expecting to receive. You clearly see 5 scallops and not 3 on their IG posts of this dish. My entree was a nightly special, fluke, but the first bite was full of bones so it went back. Looking back at the photo, it also looks like it's just sitting in butter. Dessert was also a disappointment. I love crepes flambéed with grand marnier. They should taste primarily of rich, buttery caramel and sweet orange flavor, with a boozy warmth from the flambéed liqueur. The sauce should be decadent and slightly caramelized. Unfortunately, the sauce on this version was so sour and tart with none of the buttery caramelization. It tasted like tart orange juice. Service was just alright. There were only two servers for the entire dining room. Initially it was fine but once the space filled up, we couldn't get another drink, our water glasses went unfilled, and when I had a problem with my entree, my dining partner had almost finished their food before I could flag someone down. As I mentioned, I ordered one of the evenings specials but my first bite had three bones!! Not acceptable at the price point of the dish. They did remove it from the bill. Three stars for the cocktail, delicious mussels, and coquille, and Gratin dauphinois (although if you're a purist and expecting thin slices, you won't get them lol). read more

We had such a great first visit to L'etoile for Valentine's day! The staff was excellent and our waitress Julia was so friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. All the food was amazing- from the french onion soup, lobster bisque soup (that had a full lobster), and escargot. For our mains we got the filet mignon with mashed potatoes and the NY prime strip steak with french fries! The restaurant is so beautiful and we had a great evening! The good and the bad. When it first came to the busy Long Island restaurant market this place seemed to be a gem. Three trips later ... not so much... the food consisting of authentic French recipes is reminiscent of some of the food my French grandma used to cook for me many moons ago in Romania is at times unreliable. The food temperature is sporadic at times being lukewarm and others simply one part cold one part warm. The drinks are pretty snazzy and the wine is good. They purport to have caviar on the menu which does get served with the proper garnishing. However you have to eat it with potato chips not with blinis not even with toasted baguette slices. I asked them to toast some and they refused. The ambiance: the decibel level is loud so you have to be in the mood for it. However it would have been ok if the place did not attract the Manhasset Americana crowd and which it did not initially when all the locals came here. Now you have people standing and hovering over you maintaining casual conversations with the people at the next table while your food gets stuck in your throat and management does not care to tell the offending patrons to sit the f--- down and let other people enjoy their meal. Overall if you are a local from oyster bay or the surrounding neighborhoods and dare venturing out into the unreliable restaurant scene of Long Island I think that you are much safer with the local Basil Leaf and Brass Rail in LV which are still unspoiled and where food is reliable and the crowd is not the Americana Manhasset crowd of loud wanna bees. read more

Went for the 3rd time and for some reason, everything I've ordered appetizer to entree has been bland and unsavory, for the price point it totally unacceptable...We won't be back, and if people ask us about it, unfortunately I'll be painfully honest. Lobster, smelled so fishy and had a griddle and tough texture. Escargot must have been out of a can...and the butter sauce was tasteless and oily salad, bland and boring I think a person would have to go through the menu to find one particular thing they think is worth it, but like I say....at the price point, save your money and test another venue before spending tons to find the one thing you enjoy. read more

Decided to try this new restaurant located on a busy corner in Oyster Bay. Be warned parking is not easy. We found parking spot a block away in a lot. Upon arrival we were greeted by the hostess who notified us our table was ready even though we were 10 minutes early. We were seated in a quaint end table. Our waitress Brittany came over immediately to introduce herself and offer drinks. The place was crowded. Every table taken with people at the bar as well. It's a cavernous space so it's very noisy. Sounds like a cafeteria. I like a quieter setting as we had to yell to talk to each other and you heard conversations tables over. It's modestly decorated with white chairs and marble tables. For appetizers we ordered escargot. Just coming back from Paris a week ago where I had incredible escargot I was hoping for the same. It was ok. The flavors weren't that strong but the escargot was tender. I think they should offer soft bread with this dish to dip into the oils after you eat the escargot instead of crisps. For dinner my husband got the duck l'orange and I got the airline chicken breast in lemon sauce. My husband loved the duck as it was cooked perfectly. My chicken was divine. Crisp crust with very little lemon flavor over a bed of mashed potatoes and asparagus. We also ordered a side dish of ratatouille that was incredible! All of these dishes came to our table piping hot. I decided to save some room for dessert so we ordered the crepes flambé with grand marnier. The waitress came table side to make them. Sadly they were not good at all. I took one bite and looked at my husband who immediately said they are not good. I took another bite hoping it would get better then pushed the plate aside. The crepes were a slimy paper consistency. There was zero flavor in them at all. I really had high hopes as everything else was great. We did tell the waitress when she came with the bill and she kindly took them off the bill as she saw the full plates piled on the table. I would definitely go back and try some other things on the menu as they have many options. A Standout Gem on the North Shore Gerardo, the bartender, was easily the highlight of the evening. He's that rare mix of skill, charm, and genuine hospitality that makes dining out feel special again. He wasn't hovering -- he knew exactly when to check in and when to let us chat, pacing the experience intuitively so it felt effortless and natural. Every drink he made, from a tequila cocktail with a large ice cube and orange peel to my glass of Pinot Noir, felt intentional, thoughtful, and perfectly timed. It's rare to meet someone whose intuition makes the whole evening flow so beautifully. But it wasn't just Gerardo. The food was equally unforgettable. We started with a dozen oysters that were so fresh and flavorful we immediately ordered another round. The mussels in tomato Provençal sauce were incredible, paired with fries that were crisp, golden, and perfectly seasoned. The frisée salad was light and refreshing, balancing the richness of everything else. And the Wagyu beef tartare with crostini was silky, flavorful, and probably my favorite -- yet it was perfectly complemented by every other dish, including the warm French baguette from their own bakery. Every bite felt intentional, expertly prepared, and utterly satisfying. Normally I'd prefer a table, but the bar was such an incredible spot to sit side by side, chat, and watch the magic unfold that I'll hope for these seats again next time. Later we learned the couple sitting next to us were the owners. They were warm, approachable, and clearly proud of what they've built. You can feel that care everywhere -- in the thoughtful layout, the attentive but not intrusive service, and the energy of the staff. I've lived in LA and NYC and just moved back to Long Island. This is the first restaurant here that genuinely impressed me. So this will be a little tough for me because I wanted to like this place and it was truly a hit and miss experience. Sat down and the first miss was a dirty fork with dried food between the tines. I discreetly gave it to our very good server (Briana). Steak Tartare had great flavor but could have been chopped more finely. I actually had one really good size chunk. Escargot was excellent. Melba Toast bites were scrumptious. Lobster Bisque was interesting but the lobster was actually tough and hard to chew. Onion Soup was a great presentation but a little on the sweet side for my taste. Duck was interesting but under seasoned. Mussels and fries were delicious and a huge hit with the entire table. Vol au Vent was very dry and barely had any seasoning( this dish came in solidly at last place). Swordfish was excellent and perfectly prepared. Deserts were ho hum at best and the crepes were thicker than I've ever had. My guess is they work out the kinks and it gets better over time. Sat at a table facing the bar and kitchen and there was a pile of rags and a bottle of spray cleaner that should not be in plain sight in any restaurant, let alone a fine dining French restaurant. I wouldn't avoid going here but I'd give them a few months. We dined here on 7-5-25 so maybe go back around the holidays. read more

This was my going to be my second time visiting L'Etoile--first time it was a walk by and was able to get a table after a short drink at the bar, keep in mind it was the worse table in the house but we didn't have reservations, so we didn't complain, this second time we made a reservation for my birthday--couldn't get in until 8:30 which was fine I usually eat late--arrived on time an actually asked if they might be able to now accommodate a table for 4- but were told no, not it would be a longer wait--just no -- 15 minutes later our table is still not available--it's now 8:45--I looked around and saw a 4 top being bussed and a two top but then was told my table is getting set up and when I looked it was the same bad table, I said I'm sorry--it's my birthday and I had that table previously before is there something else and was told no---not I'm sorry let me see what I can do, so we left----they didn't seem to care that they could have had a 4 top, and then ended up losing their 2 top reservation??? Had a great time at L'Etoile in Oyster bay. The french restaurant was beautifully designed and staff were attentive. We had a delicious fig salad and short rib with French onion soup for appetizers, chicken and mushroom stew for entree, and delicious crème brûlée for dessert. My husband had the lobster pasta and was fresh and decadent. Experience was impressive and a great addition to the area. Highly recommend! read more

It's crazy to me how terrible these reviews are. It's definitely overly expensive, but everything we ordered was outstanding. We had the bacon appetizer that was offered as a special that night, the duck entree (Magret de Canard) with a side of ratatouille, and the chicken mushroom stew in puff pastry (Vol Au Vent). Every bite was mind blowing. We all cleaned our plates down to the last crumb and agreed we all wanted to come back. Our waiter was also fantastic. As soon as you walk into L'Etoile you are greeted not so welcomingly by a hostess who doubts you would have a reservation. It's a very pretty restaurant, but the noise level is unbearable. You can barely hear the person you're dining with. The service is inattentive. It's almost impossible to flag down your waiter, or any waiter. When we arrived, it wasn't that busy and it seemed like the three waiters on the floor were running around like chickens without a head. When they brought out our meal, the food was hot, but it took five minutes for our sides to come out. The food is very good although portions are small. It would've been an enjoyable meal if the decibels in the restaurant were a little lower. When it came time for a coffee, the waiter came out with a French press. He pressed the lever down and immediately began to pour. I had grounds in my coffee and when I complained to the waiter he said oh that's French press you always get grounds in your coffee. I said I have a French press that I use all the time you have to wait after you press down the lever. Another waiter came and brought me a coffee. The coffee wound up being terrible anyway. It seems as though these waiters were not trained very well. They really don't seem to know what fine dining is or what fine service is. I do wish restaurants would train their service people better. I will not be going back to L'Etoile for the simple fact that although the food was good the service was really inferior and the noise level was unbearable. read more
