While visiting Honolulu, we knew we wanted to try to go to BLA, since they are a James Beard award winning cocktail lounge. There were no open reservations when I had checked a few weeks prior to us flying in, so we thought we'd try to walk in around when they opened. Luckily for us, there had been a cancellation and we were able to be seated at the bar. The bar itself is situated in an office building on the 1st floor, and when you walk in, it's dimly lit with lots of wood accents and leather seats. The bar only seats 6 people, with the lounge area holding maybe 5-6 additional people. The menu is a few pages long, with classic cocktails, speciality cocktails and highballs along with zero proof options as well. We chatted with one of the bartenders and one of the co-owners, Justin for a while. He guided us through the menu and we ordered a few drinks between us. I ordered the Flowers for You which was light, fruity and a little bit tangy and the La Altena which was smoky and had a bit of heat to it from the chiles. My partner ordered the Mai Tai and the Amaretto Sour, with his favorite being the Sour. The Mai Tai is not your typical Mai Tai due to the complexity of the ingredients, so be prepared for a unique flavor profile. All of the drinks were delicious and the service was unmatched. Be prepared to take your time here as the preparation of each drink is deliberate and is part of the experience. Would absolutely come here again the next time we are in Hawaii!

Wasn't able to snag a res so I came a little before they opened as a walk-in. The location is a little weird, in a business building, but wasn't too hard to find if you know where to go lol. There were maybe 3 parties before me, but I was able to be seated right away after they seated all the reservations. The vibe is dark and moody, which I liked. I asked for recommendations based on my tastes and they gave me really good drinks. Don't remember the names, but they tasted great. Alcohol was top notch. I would definitely come back to try more drinks.

Loved the vibe of this place! We walked in and were lucky to find a spot(room too!) staff were super friendly and professional. It's a small spot so I recommend making a reservation. By the time we left there was a waiting line!

E Ho'o Pau Mai Tai - would get again just to watch it being made one more time. Such an experience

Came here because we saw it has been on North America's 50 Best Bars and were definitely not disappointed! Be advised if you want to get the full experience at the bar, get a reservation over a month in advance; they open on the first of the month for the subsequent month (ie reservations for all of July open June 1). We didn't realize this and looked for reservations on June 1 afternoon for July 3, and the entire month was already booked out! But we added ourselves to the wait list and lucked out, received an email 1-2 weeks before our trip that a spot opened up and booked it immediately. So glad we did! Now to the drinks! I ended up getting the Mai Tai (GORGEOUS and delicious! I understand why they won awards for it) followed by the Flowers For You. I loved them both. My bf got the Matcha Old Fashioned and Sagano Smoke and he also loved them. Our drinks were made right in front of us by Justin with such artistry, it was beautiful. And the bar itself had such a great vibe, we loved the lighting and the cozy atmosphere. Overall the whole experience was divine. My bf has been to A LOT of the top 50 cocktail bars and he said BLA is definitely deserving of the praise. Highly recommend getting a reservation here if you can!

We had an absolutely lovely time at Bar Leather Apron. We were walk ins and we were sat almost immediately. There were 4 of us in a private room and it was very intimate and lovely. Our waiter was wonderful, very nice and funny. The drinks were amazing, we didn't drink anything bad. I don't usually enjoy whiskey, but I enjoyed all of the old fashioned's my friends got. All of the drinks also had a generous pour. I appreciated the creativity behind each drink as well. The smoked fish dip with ikura on top was also so yummy. I only wish they had more food on their menu, but I understand they need to focus on the drinks to make them as delicious as they are.

Legendary cocktail experience. My partner and I frequent a lot of top 50 bars across the world and Bar Leather Apron operates at that level. The drinks are well balanced and have a lot of Japanese flavor influence (i.e shisho, matcha, yuzu). Presentation and breakdown of each drink component was exceptional; it is clear that the mixologists understand the nuances of their ingredients and the techniques they employ. Special shout out to Scotty for taking care of us tonight. Excited to come back again :)

It has been one of my hardest reservations to get in a while. The counter has limited seating, and although they do allow walk-ins, they come without the show, so try your best to get the resy. The staff's knowledge is that of professionals. I struck up a bourbon conversation with our bartender, which taught me so much about their process of making barrel selections. The drinks are good, and their presentation is creative and modern. Some bars of a similar type come off as banal and predictable, but not here. It's one of a kind in Oahu, and it adds a flare to your night if you can get a seat.

I am sure most who love to dine out have experienced fine dining at some point in their life, however, have you experienced a fine cocktail bar experience? Bar Leather Apron delves into the deeper end. If you appreciate (fine) cocktails and spirits, one should experience this place. Reservations are hard to book as the calendar opens on the 1st of each month at 7:00am for that month only and books very quickly. There are only 6 seats at the bar and a few lounge tables and group seating. I recommend a seat at the bar! Their approach to cocktail creations is an entirely new experience, from the ambiance, presentation, service and setting, it is understandable they were awarded a James Beard Award. This is not your average bar. Definitely the total opposite of a dive bar! There are no "well" drinks here. All of the cocktails are served with high end spirits. For example, I noticed the tequila served in their cocktails are El Tesoro and the whiskey-based cocktails are served with Japanese whisky brand Suntory, Yamazaki. Anyone who knows, these are not "wells" and an average bottle at the store (if you can even find them) will run you starting $100 and up. I glanced at the glass case behind the bar seating and immediately noticed they have a lot of 'high end" or top shelf spirits you can't find anywhere locally. Every cocktail has a story behind how they were created, as narrated by our bartender. Some of the cocktails we learned are served special "batches" casked and distilled particularly for those drinks only. Aside from cocktails, they serve flights and spirits. They do have a few food menu items, however, the experience here are the drinks. The bar is finished in Koa wood and perfectly lit in spots where they would serve the drinks. Every drink served is a photo op because of the perfect lighting and darkness or the background. In a 2-hour seating, we each only had 2 drinks. It is a nice, quiet place to chill, with some light jazz in the background. This is a far cry from the noise of a typical bar. Restrooms are in the lobby, and the card key is located by the entrance door. There is ample parking in Topa Towers. I am not sure about parking rates so if you drive and park, you'll need to check since we walked over from our office. There is also street metered parking close by on Bishop Street as well which is free after 6:00pm

Surprised my boyfriend with a reservation to Bar Leather Apron for his birthday & he's still talking about it 2 weeks later. The service is amazing & the drinks are delicious & so unique. I would make reservations early to sit at the bar because it's truly an unforgettable experience. We

My friend and I were lucky enough to get seats as a walk-in on a weds night as there were no reservations available when we checked earlier in the week. It's a little hard to find tucked away in what looks like an office building but that also added to the intimate feel of the bar. We ordered the el umami, rocking chair, sansho tonic and boomerang. As we received our drinks, we were surprised with a light snack (rice crackers I believe?) and a chocolate at the end which was such a nice treat! Each drink was described in detail and the care put into the ingredients is evident. My fav out of the 4 was the el umami and the sansho tonic as a close second. All drinks were very well balanced. Definitely recommend scoring a reservation if you can!

Bar Leather Apron is AMAZING! First of all it is a small place (~6 bar seats, 14 lounge area seats) so getting a reservation is pretty tough but key. If you're a party of only two you might get seated at the bar (don't quote me on this) if space permits otherwise you'll be seated in the comfortable lounge. Our reservation was mid-evening on a Thursday and we were a pair of the lucky ones seated at the bar. Do not get me wrong...sitting in the lounge is not a downgrade, you just don't get the full experience of the presentation. Scotty (not sure if he's the only bartender) went over the selection of cocktails they had listed and provided us recommendations when we had narrowed it down to a couple options. Each drink is a presentation that drinks very well. Scotty lines up the different spirits/ingredients going into the cocktail and explains the flavor profile they are trying to achieve. This is not a bar that is noisy and rushes to get out drinks asap. This is a place where the drinks are carefully crafted and presented to each. To some this may be overkill but we loved the care put into making the drink and the conversation we had with Scotty about each spirits profile and how it's all going to work together in the cocktail. We had two drinks each, all excellent tasting! We also had their brioche roll with pepperoni butter that was also very good. We will be back for more drinks and to enjoy the atmosphere.

Bar Leather Apron is one of my favorite places to go to in Oahu. The drinks are phenomenal. We each got two drinks and I'm so happy we did. They're high quality and each is done with care. One of them was smoked and the presentation of that one was amazing. Ambiance is very lowkey and relaxed. I love the vibes here. It feels like you can take your time and relax against the couch to really enjoy your drinks. We also got a light food board here to help with the alcohol. It was good - not amazing, but it did the job. Reservations are HIGHLY recommended. You may not get in unless you have them. It's not a huge place.

Cheese and salami with Salmon dip! Such a great combination!

This was one of my favorite bars that I've tried in Honolulu. Justin Park was such an awesome bartender/owner and paired each step of the mixing process with a masterful knowledge of each ingredient to help patrons better appreciate the different components of each cocktail as they are being crafted. Justin elevated the cocktail making experience with a flair for entertainment spectacle! The food was phenomenal and was just the right portions for an evening round of drinks!

Ask the Community - Bar Leather Apron

    Are kids welcome?

Sorry, we are a 21 and over bar.

Aloha, tried to make reservation online, but shown no availability. Is there any waiting list we can be on? Also, do you take 5 people if there is availability?…

Aloha, sorry, we do not have a waiting list. Cancellations automatically go back live on Resy so feel free to check back there periodically.…

How far out are reservations made available? It has been awhile since I've come and want to know the current window . Mahalo

Getting reservations is impossible. They are very popular especially after winning the James Beard award. Good luck!

Do you make any non alcoholic mock tails?

Yes, we do. Simply ask your server/bartender for options.

I made a reservation for 4 people. Is there a way to add one more person to make it 5 total?

Aloha, sorry, we are unable to accommodate a party of 5.

Can you accommodate a party of four people?

Yes, we do accommodate parties of 4. Please feel free to check Resy to make a reservation.

Is there a way to make reservations for 3 people? I can see that there are multiple reservations for a party of 2 but when I change to party of 3 on Resy it says there aren't any spots available.

Sorry, there are only 2 tables that can accommodate a party of 3. If they are not showing on Resy, they are already booked. Our two high top tables for 2 cannot accommodate a 3rd guest.

Is resy the only way to make a reservation? There is absolutely no availability on there for the next month and you can't make reservations beyond that time period.

Aloha, yes, all availability is live on Resy. Reservations for the next month go live on the 1st of the month. For example, May will go live on April 1st. We tend to book out 1-2 months in advance. Feel free to check back periodically as…

I think I made a reservation tonite but not sure. Could you check the reservation list?

    Please email info@barleatherapron.com. Mahalo.

Is there a phone number to update reservations?

Aloha, sorry, we do not have a phone. You can update reservations on Resy or you can email the team at info@barleatherapron.com. Mahalo.

Do you take walk-in for party of 1 at bar if available?

We do accept walk-ins however seating is not guaranteed as it only depends on no-shows and early departures and generally people do not no-show or leave early on bar reservations. Also, with current COVID restrictions it is difficult to secure…

Is there no option to book reservation for 1 at the bar?

Aloha, sorry, not at this time.

Can reservations be made more than 30 days in advance?

Sorry, we only take reservations 30 days in advance on Resy.

Is there any chance you take walk-ins if all the Resy reservations are taken on a given night?

If there is space at the bar

Helloooo? We've missed you so much! When are you re-opening?

We will be reopening on 3/18/21!

Is it a 2 drink minimum per person for bar seating only or does the min also apply to table seating?

If I'm not not mistaken, it's a two drink minimum at the bar and not the table area. Definitely worth the two drink minimum when at the bar. Justin is simply amazing!!

Are you able to smoke cigars in this establishment?

    No

    What is the dress code?

There's no specific dress code I think, but I wouldn't go beach casual for sure. It's a pretty classy joint ?Think how you'd go to a cocktail lounge in the city.

I'll admit, it was a little confusing to find at first, but after asking around, we finally made our way there and I'm glad we did! FOOD Lobster Gyoza Four delicious pieces served with gyoza sauce. Each one had a nice sized piece of lobster inside, and the flavor was spot on. The gyoza had that perfect savory bite, and the sauce brought everything together beautifully. Open-Faced Baguette Three pieces topped with creamy burrata, prosciutto, and sun-dried tomato pesto. The combination of creamy, salty, and slightly sweet flavors made these a really enjoyable bite. DRINKS Mojito Hands down, one of the best mojitos I've had! It was crisp, refreshing, and perfectly balanced. The bright citrus and fresh mint made every sip incredibly refreshing without being overly sweet. Definitely a drink I could happily sip on all night! Espresso Martini I normally don't order espresso martinis because, honestly, I haven't had many that impressed me. But THIS one completely changed my mind. Hands down the best espresso martini I've had! Smooth, rich, and delicious with just the right balance of coffee flavor and sweetness. I'd absolutely order this again. DESSERT Kona Espresso Tiramisu Of course, we had to end the night with dessert! This tiramisu was absolutely delicious. It came out in a fun, unique ball shape rather than the traditional presentation, which made it a little more interesting. The coffee and espresso flavors were rich and delicious, and every bite was so good. My only complaint? I wished there was more of it! All in all, a really good way to finish the meal. LIVE MUSIC Live music starts at 8:30 p.m., and who doesn't love a little live music with their cocktails and pupus? The evening featured a talented duo with a piano player and cello player, and they sounded fantastic together. The combination of piano and cello created such a beautiful, mellow atmosphere. It added just the right touch of elegance while still keeping the lounge feeling relaxed and comfortable. It really elevated the entire evening and made it feel like more than just going out for drinks and food. SERVICE Our waitress was extremely attentive and on point throughout the evening. She made sure we were taken care of without being overbearing, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Lewer's Lounge turned out to be such a great find! From the delicious food and seriously impressive cocktails to the attentive service and beautiful live music, everything came together for a really enjoyable night. And as far as date night goes, this place definitely gets my vote. Whether you're looking for a relaxed evening with someone special, cocktails with friends, or just a place to enjoy some great live music, Lewer's Lounge has the right vibe.

That's a shame because it has the potential to be very good. When you start with a cocktail concept that is deliberately kept low key with no signage, and a drink menu that rotates and evolves, you have a pretty good floor to start. Having a cozy place to settle in and being able to enjoy food from Chris Kajioka should give 430 Pkwy a high ceiling. If you like an espresso martini try something a little different. Their Espressing My Love batches espresso with Averna, black walnut bitters, and a unique monkeypod syrup. Unfortunately, there is no espresso machine so you cannot get fresh drawn espresso to make a Carajillo the way Cafe Miro use to. The ahi brioche is a carry over from all Chris Kajioka places. The grilled cheese is excellent. Hotdogs are kicked up - it used to be a black truffled miso chicken sausage but the current one is a little different. The problem is the food preparation totally undermines the whole place. Without a separate kitchen you have frying being done just a few feet away from where cocktails are made. If you sit on the right side of the bar you will quickly understand why this doesn't work. I would come here more frequently if i didn't have to smell like cooking oil afterwards. Fix that problem and this place would rock.

Moody lighting, a giant orange tree in the middle of the room, Japanese hip hop playing in the background (I want to steal this entire playlist), and extremely cool and friendly servers and bartenders. I've been to a few other attempted "speakeasies" in Honolulu, but most are basically just dark bars with a fun door or code word. Wild Orange actually has the VIBES to make the whole concept work. Definitely worth coming just to hang out and chill. They have a full bar and an extensive specialty cocktail menu. Tried the Purple Dragon, made with ube liqueur and coconut cream. Very sweet--a little TOO sweet for my taste--but tasty and pretty. Probably should have listened to the menu and kept it as a shot, but I wanted something I could sip on for a while and chill. The Umeshu Highball was also very pretty and tasty. My friend who works as a sake distributor was impressed with their selection of good sake, so of course we had to order a bottle. Our server brought it out in an ice bucket, kept it off to the side, and completely served it for us throughout. Very classy. The food menu is fun and creative, but unfortunately not really for me because it's entirely vegan. Most times, but ESPECIALLY when I'm drinking, I want MEAT. Tried the Wild Musubi, a vegan Spam musubi. I'm not actually sure what the "meat" was. Possibly fried tofu? Whatever it was, it was definitely a passable alternative, but would have been 100x better if it were just plain old Spam. It also falls victim to what I find is a common problem with vegan attempts at Japanese food: anything teriyaki ends up being way too treacly sweet without actual meat or seafood to ground it in reality. Also tried the Char Siu Tofu Bao, fried tofu in a red Chinese-style char siu sauce on fluffy white buns. Again, fun and certainly not bad, but these would be 1000x better with actual pork. If Wild Orange had this exact same creative food menu but carnivore edition, this place would probably be 7/5 stars for me. That being said, I know being vegan will actually be a huge draw for some people, and I appreciate that the food is creative rather than just the usual sad vegan afterthoughts. Parking is pretty easy by Honolulu standards. It's inside Hawaiian Brian's, so there's a large shared parking lot. That being said, you might still have trouble finding a spot during peak gym hours since you're competing with all the 24 Hour Fitness customers. All in all, I LOVE this place. Definitely a fun stop--first, middle, only, or nightcap--on a chill night out. Will absolutely be adding Wild Orange into the rotation of places to bring out-of-town guests when I want to impress them with something cool and different. The vegan menu probably means it'll be a couple-times-a-year place for me rather than a regular haunt. But for drinks, service, atmosphere, and pure VIBES? 20/10.

I was surprised by how much space there was and how few people were occupying the space. I had some coffee, some sausage and chicken gumbo, some chips, and a canned Heineken while doing some work on my laptop. Such a great pre-flight experience. Highly recommend if you have some extra time before your flight and want to spend it comfortably.

It's ok for what it is and better than sitting in a crowded terminal with no free food at all. And ok for being in a dingy airport in Honolulu. However, compared to other airport lounges across the world... this is a joke. Food selection is very limited to small pupus and amenities are also limited. So, if you are expecting a full buffet, lounge chairs, sleep pods, full bar, and showers... you will be very disappointed because there is absolutely none of that. Also, the lounge itself is rather small. There is often a wait just to enter and with limited bench seating outside the lounge, there are sometimes a bunch of people standing around. The staff... they are nice, just not the friendliest compared to other major airline staff. For a local airline in HAWAII, I would think the "Aloha" standard would be on point.
