Bar Louie is definitely a hot spot on a Friday night near UP Mall. When our party of 10 arrived we attempted to sit in the bar area but it was just to packed so we ventured back to the dining room area & were seated quickly. Our server took our drink order right away. The margarita was good and another patron got the rat pack martini that she loved. The downside was the service was slow.... too slow... and the server took food orders from only half the table so we had to hunt her down to place the rest of the order. The spinach dip is AMAZING! We stopped in for a much needed quick lunch date, and as per usual, service was friendly and sweet, very conversational and casual. Lacy, in particular, was lovely. She handled a tiny kitchen error professionally and kindly, and we tipped her accordingly. Haven't been in here for awhile and it is "calmer" than it use to be. There was a mini dance floor before the renovations. Yes that's how long it's been for me :/ Sat at the restaurant side for a quick meal and the waitress did not even approach us for nearly 15mins. Had to ask for service even tho she walked passed us several times. Finally went to the bar side and the waiter there was super friendly. He was quick on his feet and made it a blast. The owner is an asshole who has severe issues with overweight people. Just ask Melissa at Frank's. The food sucks and the servers are rude! I'll not be shocked if this place closes. The hamburgers taste like frozen patties from Aldi's. We ordered the burger sliders, which were on special and I'd never had anything quite so horrible. The only good thing is the wedge salad, but it's overpriced. We won't go back here. If I want a nasty hamburger, I'll make one. read more

Fairly disappointed in my experience this evening. My husband and I came here with another couple on our weekend in northern Indiana. We arrived a little after 12 and were carded twice. I order a craft beer from Three Floyd's and the other three got Sam Octoberfest. I finished my beer and the waiter never offered to get me another beverage. However, he go my husband a second beer. Don't buy the hype, the food is mediocre at best. They are trying to make it seem like this is "THE PLACE TO BE", and it is if you like extremely overpriced food, bad staff, and a room full of goobers. We stopped in on a Tuesday night around 8:00pm. The downstairs area was busy, but not totally full. We asked for the rooftop area, which was open that night, and were sent to the elevator down the hall, which whisked us to the third floor. It's not exactly a rooftop, but it's a covered area, open on the sides, which makes it a good alternative to outdoor seating. Most of the interior seating is high top, which is not my favorite seating, but it was comfortable enough. Our server showed up promptly and answered all of our questions about the menu and the bar selections. The draft beer selection is more limited than the downstairs area, but still adequate. My spouse had a tropical paradise cocktail, which she pronounced "delicious." Part of the proceeds from the sale of that drink go to charity. As it happened, we hit a night where the craft burgers were on special. I had the Gastroburger, which I have to say was the best burger I have ever had. My wife had an impossible cheese burger (upcharge for an impossible patty), which she pronounced to be excellent. She had the tots, while I had the loaded tots (small upcharge). The tots, which can often be overcooked and dry, were perfectly prepared and flavorful. The loaded tots were absolutely wonderful, and well worth the upcharge. Our server was personable and attentive, there when we needed her, leaving us to ourselves when we didn't. At the end of the meal, the check was presented promptly. There are a lot of younger people who are apparently regulars, and it's a popular hangout. Downstairs is loud, the rooftop section (not always open) is quieter. All in all, this was a great experience, with great food and great service. We will certainly return. read more

I don't quite understand all the so so responses regarding Bar Louie. I liked the atmosphere. It was comfortable not too loud even for a Friday night. Our service really exceeded our expectations. The waitress was very attentive and helpful on our first night there. She even gave us samples of the different microbrews they serve. The beers themselves were "average". The food was delicious. I had a pasta and cheese dish with spicy seasoning that had some nice kick to it. It went well with the ipa beer I had. We'll definately be back if hunger arises while shopping. read more

Terrible service at the bar- 5 waitresses standing around while we waited 10 minutes for a beer with only a couple other people at the bar...they don't pour Guinness correctly, and don't serve pints, only 14 ounces and 22 ounces. Lame- don't bother. read more

So a friend told me this is a nice bar and I stopped by after work today. It was nice, not very crowded. I ordered a beer. Halfway through this first beer, my phone died I told my bartender that I was going to my car to get my phone charger and I would be right back. I also told her I was leaving money there so she didn't have to worry that I was running off. I put eight dollars under my beer bottle, which was three times the price of the beer. I walk to the car, get the charger, gone about five minutes. I come back and the beer and money are gone. I could have created some drama but I just turned around and left while shaking my head. I have no idea why they would do this; I was very clear about my intentions to return. read more

Bar Louie is normally great for dinner, but on Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017, I made the mistake of going there for "brunch". You guys should teach your cooks two things: how to fry an egg and how to make toast. The eggs were both crispy and runny...I don't even know how you do that. Two of us ordered toast, but what we got was warm bread. When did making toast become difficult? Ask the cooks here. I'll go back for dinner, but I'll never have brunch here again. Yuk. read more

The waitresses were very nice. However, the food was atrocious!!! My husband ordered sliders which at first came out cold and then came back again like hockey pucks! The drinks were not even sub par. I am on a diet and my friend REALLY wanted to go here. So i figured i'd just find something on the menu. I had to pay $13 for some lettuce with a mixture of veggies in it. Perhaps the dislike comes from me not being able to eat what i want, but gosh, i am starving and this is all the food I get? Not only that but the music is awful... just awful. Went there and sat at the bar. Was looking for a steak. Did not have many traditional menu items. I settled for a couple appetizers. I got the tempura shrimp and boneless buffalo wings. The shrimp was average. Decent sauces came with and not a bad serving of sauces. The wings were awful. They were small an basically burnt. I was never asked how everything was by a manager nor the bartender. I hardly touched them and asked for the check. Even then I wasn't asked if I enjoyed them or why I only ate 2 wings and didn't get a box. I didn't drink any beer while I was there but looked like they had a nice selection. We used to frequent the Bar Louie in Evanston and Wrigleyville, before is decided to pee on my leg and move back to Indiana from Chicago. This is the most spacious Bar Louie I have been to. There's a nice quiet dining area separated from the bar or you can hang out to watch the game in the bar. The beer garden is great on a warm summer night with cold beer. The food is solid. A little different twist on the standard bar fare. Their beer selection is really, really good. It's a fun place to hang out and watch the cute bartenders in tanktops, while trying not to get slapped in the head by my wife. If they turned up the lights, I could get the excuse to wear shades inside and not get in so much trouble. read more

I used to frequent this location several times a week about three years ago. At that time the service was outstanding, now the service sucks. I had two beers, hung out for an hour and was never offered a menu. The bartenders think it's social hour with each other. They also over served a few people who wound up being obnoxious. Walked in at approx 3:10 pm and the sign at the entrance said seat yourself. We waited, my party of 4, for approximately 15 minutes and had 3 employees walk past us never acknowledging us at all. The people working were not busy at all as there were only about 15 people in this sorry excuse for a bar/ restaurant. The only reason I give one star is because I cannot leave a lower rating. I'd say this is my favorite patio in town. They have something for everyone, 40 beers on draft, handcrafted martinis. Live Trivia, DJ on the weekends. My boyfriend and I can come here dressed up after a wedding or just after one of his softball games or the gym. All seem to be welcomed. :) read more
