I attended a retirement dinner for a friend and coworker at Bar Meets Grill tonight and it was wonderful!!! Everything was fresh and absolutely delicious! I would have been happy with just the awesome pizzas and charcuterie we had for appetizers but the pasta entree ....wow! So delicious and filling!! Huge portions, I could only eat half even though I wanted to keep eating lol. The special dessert Chef Anila ( who came out to talk to my friend) came up with for us was amazing!!!! Can't hold my tongue any longer. This place is 0-3 with us. We'd stop in before a concert for some cocktails (which are ok, hence the extra star). But the food is either late, cold, bland or wrong. Every time we have had to send something back or have it removed from the check. It saddens me because I want BMG to be better. It's a nice place, just crappy food. read more

I can't even begin to describe how good the food was. We started off with a chocolate martini & margarita with a shrimp cocktail appetizer. I don't even care for shrimp (my husband loves it), and I even ended up liking this appetizer. Everything was DELICIOUS!! For entrees, we got the ribeye with a side of asparagus & the surf and turf. It was all hot when we got it & so flavorful! For dessert, we got the strawberry shortcake & chocolate cake. The chocolate cake was more of a truffle/fudge/brownie consistency, but so rich & amazing. I arrived to Pala starving and unable to function. I am not a gambler and the main reason for this casino visit was to meet my family for dinner at the Choices buffet later on that night. I passed by Bar Meets Grill on my way from the front entrance to the casino area to search for food. I recalled seeing a food court years ago when I was at Pala for a concert but unfortunately, all the fast food restaurant had closed due to construction. I went back to Bar Meets Grill and saw that they offer Happy Hour from 3p.m. - 7p.m. SCORE! I ordered a premium cocktail (any one type of hard liquor + 1 type of juice) $5 + 1 stuffed mushroom $5 + 1 ravioli of the day (today happened to be sausage ... yum!) $5. The drink and ravioli was actually very delicious but the stuffed mushroom, not so much. It was flavorless. However, the presentation of the food was impressive, and the food and service was wonderful. I will definitely be back. read more

This is a really good Happy Hour spot. The food is good and the drink specials are spot on. The service is spotty to poor but the prices and taste make up for the service. Everyday from 3pm - 7pm is a reasonable time frame. We like and will definitely be coming back again and again. read more

My wife and I decided to we'd go to Pala Casino to celebrate our 33rd wedding anniversary. We decided to make reservations at Bar Meets Grill. It was our first time eating there. We arrived on time and were seated immediately at a great table. Our server Tiffany was at our table within minutes of being seated and took our drink orders while we were deciding what to order. To our surprise the resturants chef, Chef Anila came by our table to wish us a happy anniversary and said she would personally cook for us. Very nice of her to offer that I might add. She asked what we were ordering of which we weren't sure of yet. She made a few suggestions so being our first time there we went with her suggestions. It didn't take long for our appetizers to arrive. The crab cakes, stuffed mushrooms and Italian meatballs were a great start. The mushroom sauce was my favorite and quickly soaked up with the table bread. A perfectly cooked and juicly medium rare ribeye and lobster tail for me and the Atlantic Salmon for my bride. They were oh so good. We finished the meal with a toast to each other with some champagne. Cheers. After the meal Chef Anila returned to inquire about our meal to which we said "it was more then we had anticipated and was delicious" She then surprised us with a very cool anniversary gift...tickets to a concert there at Pala Casino that night! To finish the anniversary date we shared a very nice tirimusu. All in all it was a fantastic experience at Bar Meets Grill. Tiffany was very attentive while never being intrusive and Chef Anila made the whole night even more special. We felt special being there. We cant wait to return! read more

To say we come to Pala often is an understatement. We come At least 3-4 times a month. Once in a while my fiancé and I take our friends and family, and recently we all went to the Selena concert. That night we made reservations for Bar Meets Grill after the concert and the food was AMAZING. We were in a party of 12, and every single person loved their food. I kept dreaming of the Frutti di Mare.. needing to experience it again. My fiancé and I came by ourselves last night and decided to go to Bar Meets Grill again and celebrate getting married next month. We ordered the fried calamari and of course... my Frutti di Mare. First of all, our waiter Ciriaco was FANTASTIC. Very friendly, welcoming, helpful, and attentive. While we were in bliss enjoying our meal, the Chef Anila came out to greet us. She asked how we were enjoying the food and I could barely put my fork down to explain how much we were in love with it. The first thing I noticed was how prideful she was. She just enjoyed the fact that we loved the food.. we talked about loving seafood and she asked how often we'd been there.. she was so friendly. She then asked if we liked coconut ice cream.. and sweet potato ice cream. I must have looked at her with a face like "huh?".. haha then she asked what we were celebrating. We told her it was our engagement/marriage next month and she said oh I'm going to bring you a special dessert. We were so excited! We finished our meal and just sat there dreaming about the flavors we just experienced.. and I turned around and noticed the chef taking pictures of the beautiful desserts she just created. Again, to see a chef have such pride in her creations is a special experience. She brought them over, described the flavors and colors she used.. and took pictures with us! It felt so amazing. The main entrees were great, the lobster bisque was the worst I've ever had in my life. The service was beyond slow and literally the server never got a refill until we paid our check. We only dined here for our wedding dinner but we definitely won't come back. How is the service at a diner better than a fine dining place?? Sad. We can't even rate the food and drinks never got any food or drinks never served. We arrived and were seated. No one ever came to ask us what we wanted to order, no drinks or food not even water. We sat there waiting. The only thing that was brought to the table was bread and butter. Employees kept walking by looking at us but nothing, nothing at all. We sat there waiting for service for at least 30 minutes or longer and NOTHING. We walked out and hostess and manager standing there talking didn't even say anything. WORST service. I have to say that in all I really enjoyed my recent stay at Pala Casino with the exception of this restaurant. I had called to make a reservation earlier in the week. (Why in this day and age do I have to call to make a reservation?) I was told at the time I called that the reservation was made for the day and time requested. When I arrived to dine at the restaurant was told I had no reservation and the manager was brought out to assist. After he looked around for a bit he did manage to find my request, but told me that it wasn't confirmed because he had tried to call me and I didn't answer. Now, I will be the first person to admit that I would not normally answer a call from a random number, however after going through my call logs there was never a call from him or anyone at the casino. There was also no voicemail of any kind. I pointed this out to him that there was never any attempt by him or any of his staff to "confirm" the reservation and went as far as to show him my call logs and then confirm the phone number he was calling (which was correct.) He then proceeded to tell me that "It didn't matter anyway, because he had been booked up all week." Right... So after you "supposedly" tried to confirm my reservation but couldn't, now you were booked up anyway. Honestly, just tell me the truth. I get that mistakes happen, but don't lie to people about it. It's completely unprofessional. Anyway we went off in search of food and were able to eat a great meal elsewhere in the hotel. This was the only thing about my stay that left a bad taste in my mouth. Everything else was great, from the room, to the concert venue, the pool, including literally every other person who worked there from the front desk to security. To Pala, I would recommend doing yourself a huge favor and implement an online reservation system for this restaurant and any other upscale restaurant in your facility. Ordered 20 oz rib eye med/well and it came out rare, sent it back and it came back medium. Steak was not flavorful or well prepared, not at all worth the very steep pricetag. Had the most impeccable evening at Bar Meets Grill this evening. First off.... the manager, Daniel, ALWAYS delivers such amazing guest service. Daniel is so friendly and personable he makes us feel right at home from the very start. As for our dining experience this evening. My wife and I decided to share a few different options and could not have been more pleased. Soux Chef Carlos really delivered tonight. Every single dish we had was phenomenal in taste. Tonight's app feature was bone marrow and I could have eaten my weight in this. So delicious. We also enjoyed a charcuterie board ( the fig jam is to die for), fresh made Caesar salad, ahi poke stack and the Surf and Turf. To complete our dining experience Daniel presented an amazing, unique wine menu with soo many choices. We chose a 2014 Opus One and it was divine. To top my meal they offer a variety of bourbon and tonight I chose a 15 year Whistle Pig. I cannot say enough about the flavor of food that Chef Carlos put out this evening. Service is always great but we do return for the exceptional experience provided from Daniel Fritts....the General Manager there. I work at a 5 star dining restaurant and all of my expectations are succeeded when I have the chance to dine at Pala at Bar Meets Grill. My fiancé and I came to Pala to check it out and see if it was somewhere we would want to block rooms for our wedding guests to stay before/after the wedding. We chose Bar Meets Grill to have dinner because it was closest to the hotel check in and we figured it would be a place where our guests end up after the wedding. The staff was very welcoming and friendly. We were seated almost immediately and out waitress came to us right away. I ordered the Pork Chop and my fiancé ordered the Chicken Parmesan. Both of these dishes were absolutely delicious. My Pork Chop has a great charbroiled flavor while still being tender. It went really well with the mashed potatoes, and brussel sprouts. My fiancé's Chicken Parmesan came angel hair pasta and delicious marinara sauce. Everything came with great size portions. It was the perfect amount where I feel like I got my money's worth. When we come back to Pala, I will for sure be coming back here. read more

The family came here today for dinner, Christmas Day. We didn't want to deal with our normal home meal, so we tried this place as an experiment. My daughter and I had the lamb chops. Having had lamb chops at several places here in San Diego and a few places internationally, I was absolutely astounded at the quality of the meal. Cooked absolutely to perfection! Tender, melt in your mouth, buttery, spiced to perfection. Hands down the best lamb chops I have ever had - by far! Service staff was excellent and attentive. Tolerant of my sarcasm and jokes. And made sure we were absolutely satisfied with everything. My only complaint was with the bar. My Long Island iced tea was far less than adequate and my daughters drink was also sub par. I rarely complain about items brought to my table but in this case I had to ask them to remake my drink properly. The waitress handled it well and returned with a drink more suitable but still not great. Good enough. Despite the drinks, the food was far beyond excellent. We met the chef and could not thank her enough for the excellent meal. Honestly, I couldn't care less if they charged us twice the price for the meal. Worth it in every way! It was so good it took a strong effort of will to not gnaw on the bones! Yes, it was THAT good! My advice: if you get a chance, eat here. Order the lamb chops. Get your drinks from one of the bars. Decent happy hour! We came in on a Thursday afternoon while camping in the RV Resort. We had two babies with us and were not allowed to be seated outside because it is a bar area, I guess. We tried really hard to keep the babies out of everyone else's experience by requesting outside seating, so we were disappointed that we couldn't sit out there. There isn't a bar outside on the patio, by the way. So, I don't think that is the actual reason we were not sat there. Our party of four (plus two under two) ordered beer, flatbread, stuffed mushrooms, and street tacos. All of the food was absolutely delicious. And you cannot beat the prices. The street tacos were $1 each, and my husband's exact description was that they were phenomenal. The beer situation was a tad disappointing. We let the waiter know we were there for happy hour and requested a beer list. We did receive the full beer list but no explanation of which beers were part of happy hour. Be sure to ask this if you're there for that pricing. We had all of our drinks picked out and had to change everything up to the few happy hour choices that there were. The beers were $7-$9 a piece, and that's no big deal if you didn't go specifically for the happy hour pricing. Once we got everything cleared up with the drink orders, we enjoyed our food and time there. We'd go back. read more

My husband and I made reservations for our anniversary on 7/16. We were less than thrilled about the food. It was awful to say the least. I ordered the scallops and risotto with lobster sauce. It was not good at all, scallops were fishy smelling and tasted fishy not to mention they were gritty with sand!! The risotto was crunchy and dry and the lobster sauce was not that at all, it tasted like straight horseradish!! Blah! My husband ordered the ribeye steak medium well, so even at medium well it was tough. The kicker to all this was a conversation we overheard at the table near us with big wig head honchos for the hotel, the chef would bring out dishes for them to try, at one point one of the gentleman asked her where certain dish was brought in from, her answer was COSTCO! He immediately told her, "You never ever tell our customers that things come from Costco!" Needless to say, that left a sour taste in our mouth for sure. So wrong! So expensive!! I'll keep this simple. Visited this restaurant twice now. My first time visiting I had a great experience and the food was spot on. The lamb chops were cooked perfectly and everything had a great flavor. Only criticism was the braised short rib portion size was a little light and they served way too much polenta on the plate which really wasn't that creamy. Now my second visit there started off OK with appetizers coming out in a reasonable time. But then everything went downhill and the entrées took almost an hour to come out. My the lamb chops were cooked rare instead of medium. Had to send them back. My salad came with no dressing and almost nothing on it other than spring mix greens for $14. I had to send it back and get the arugula salad which was done well since I was very specific about them making sure it had dressing on it. My mother-in-law's pork chop was so over cooked it was like shoe leather. It will be a while before we visit again. read more

Food would have been great if it didn't sit on the counter for 5-10 minutes for many of our appetizers and main meals. We had a large party (22) with 2 servers and the restaurant wasn't too busy. We went to the bar to order drinks since it was faster service. The wings were good, great flavor and hot to the touch. The other food we got would have been great but it came out luke warm or cold. We've been waiting for our bill for over 30 minutes.... Our server Kristin was very nice and apologetic for the bill taking so long to receive. After 20 minutes we informed the hostess that NO ONE had been by. she pointed at our waiter and said "He is there... he will come by" 10 minutes later and NO SERVICE or even an acknowledgement... so we decided to leave. we let the hostess and manager know why and we're offered mumbled apologies. a super young manager with absolutely no customer relations skills. all the other eateries were cafe and fast food. it is next to impossible to use a $100 gift card at the other places. thank you, Pala Boy Meets Grill for a horrible anniversary dinner. read more

Wedge salad one tiny fingernail size of blue cheese on the side??? two drops of bacon fat size of a small marble on the side, chewy had to spit out. this is NOT a wedge salad, its a lettuce ball with Winco dressing. for my alfredo I wanted capers, they said they are charging extra for anything and everything, even parmesan cheese, doesnt matter how small . they said the big bosses are watching them on camaras all the time. WHO charges for capers????? so I just ate my bland noodles and boiled tastless chicken, no colors in the plate at all, not even parsley. Our first experience was being told that they were by reservation only, no walk-ups. As we were a couple of hours before a show, and there was nowhere to sit at the bar, my wife tried again, and we were grudgingly seated at the counter by the pizza oven and pretty much told, "You're on your own for service." Whatever. We caught our servers eye and put an order in. Then, we sat there and watched food pumped out of the kitchen to sit and die. Some things sat there for ten minutes easy, and not always under a heat lamp even. We watched servers push other items aside instead of alerting someone that their order was up. At some point, we asked why there weren't runners, and that got a laugh... "We do, we just don't know where they are." I saw my steak come out, then sit under a heat lamp. It sat for a good, solid ten plus minutes, until my wife's pasta came out. Her pasta was underdone, and my steak was overdone and pretty much blasted by sitting under the heat lamp. Several things about the awful service reminded us of Luis Reys, and we got a pretty good laugh when we were told all of those people were here at Bar Meets Grill while Luis Rey's is remodeled. They've learned nothing... lots and lots of people doing a lot of running around, but not actually accomplishing anything. Management, frankly, sucks... he doesn't know how to run a front of the house, and because he's frantically running around, his staff is too. After our three-strikes-you're-out with Luis Rey's, we will not come back until the staff is rotated again. read more
