Horrible experience. Was accompanying my girlfriend and her mom here after leaving another establishment in the surrounding area, and almost immediately I could tell that the bartender wasn't pleasant. We sat at the bar and waited roughly 5 minutes before being noticed and approached. While they were looking through the drink menu and inquiring about the types of alcohol the bar had, the bartender suddenly turns to me and goes "you don't look old enough to be sitting at this bar" with a condescending tone. I get it, I look young- I get carded everywhere. However, his approach is exactly what you don't do when asking to see an ID, especially when you're supposed to also be in the hospitality industry. His attitude immediately turned me off to ordering any type of drink, so I opted for the free option of water. Additionally, I observed the same bartender ignore a group of 3 guys waiting at the opposite end of bar to order drinks for roughly 8-10 minutes. I'm surprised they didn't walk out. Overall, I will not return to this place again. Horrible customer service that I witnessed first and second-hand. read more

The lobby has a really cool vibe, and the smores naan here is so delicious (mint - strawberry - warm chocolate - how can a person go wrong in ordering this??). I also enjoyed the eggplant naan. Really enjoyed this bar. Great interior design, super friendly bartenders, good drinks, many games for people to play. Will be back to check out that speakeasy everyone is talking about. The only disappointment was that we ordered nachos and bartenders forgot to check on it. We waited 30 minutes or so and then asked them about the food. They went towards the kitchen to check and brought it out. It must have been sitting there a long time because it was completely cold. Other than that it was a great time at Bar Moxy. read more

Cool. Another commercial, industrial sheik retro-fit bar. It seems like the same bar designer has been has been busy in restaurants and bars all over the gaslamp district. Anyway, we enjoyed two beers each and an unusual appetizer of olives and humus. They gave us more pita chips for the asking, and we were very pleased. The space was enjoyable, though the sun was setting with me exposed in the direct sun (the others at the table had found the shadow). We kept moving our table to avoid the direct sun, but with little success. Drink well, tip well. read more

Right in the heart of downtown, a new hipster speakeasy mixed with open space to facilitate community. When you walk in, it's a beautiful open space with a square bar, tables around with games, small quiet area upstairs and computer room to the side. They have large Jenna and connect 4 and table games. There were people here at 5:30 hanging out after work, people visiting for a conference and very casual/friendly vibe at the bar. All the staff was friendly to me (I saw it was hard for some others). For Room 56, it was a fun entrance (I won't spoil it for you!). Through the secret door, we were led down a narrow spiral staircase to an intimate room with tables for 2-6 people, candles and dim lighting. It felt like being part of an elite group. The bar is stacked full of fun, flavorful, spirit forward creative cocktails. I enjoyed the St. Germaine Sour, tasted like drinking a sip of sweet gin (they used a honey gin) from a flower petal. Oh and so tenderly created with a flour decoupage on top. The staff was so helpful and accommodating! Valerie does a fantastic job managing this place. Food wise, I had their charcuterie board and seared tuna app. The cheese on the board was DELICIOUS! Oh the goat cheese is bomb! And the tuna was layered delicately with a fusion of flavors that melded together to create a mini poke bowl in my mouth. Ok so I started this review giving them a 4/5 stares, but since reflecting in the experience...I give it a 5. Know that it will be pricey. There are narrow stairs. It's dark. It's meant to feel exclusive and mysterious. The music selection was a lovely background to allow for conversation. I'd come back to hang at the bar and play games and use the downstairs bar area for a special occasion. Just walked out after standing at the bar anywhere from 5 to 7 minutes. The bar was not that busy, there were four girls there and there was no acknowledgment or even a smile that I was standing at the bar waiting to order a drink. Just ended up leaving. Super cute bar with a hotel in it. They have a lot of room to walk around and hang out. Stephanie at the lower bar was so sweet. They also make coffee and espresso which I love. Seize the photo opp with the neon Love sign at the front entrance and take a shot at the neon lights overhead by the stairs! Cool little bar that doubles as the check-in desk in Moxy Hotel. Bartenders are super friendly and fun to talk to. If you are staying in the hotel, you can get a complimentary drink from the bar. The sweet chili wings and avocado tacos are amazing! The Moxy is my favorite drink but all of their specialty cocktails are delicious! Staff for sure makes it a 5 star experience - shout out to the bartenders Ammie and Ronnie they were so hospitable and elevated the entire evening for me and my friends. First time in San Diego for bar hopping and wow ! This place was just so warm and welcoming I love the concept and the design they have going on this bar made me want to stay the whole night . Oh my god, what a gem of a place, it is the perfect place to stay, eat and drink. Let me tell you that if you are in San Diego you've got come here. Always a great vibe withe plenty of energy. The best bit of the venue is the bar staff, adding to that all of the games and live music. Last night there was an amazing violinist rocking out to any song you can mention. I love this place! The decor is on-point with plenty of interesting art/decor and niches/corners to take pix for TheGram if you're interested in that sorta thing. The bar doubles as the hotel check-in so it is always lively with new folks coming through regularly. Every single bar staff person we met was fun, friendly and kind. We even got hooked up with a complimentary free "experimental" drink that our bartender just felt like testing on us! :) The loaded bacon/cheese fries with Salsa were AMAZING. I heard they are building one of these hotels in our home-town (Seattle) and we can't wait to visit and hope it's just as good as the The San Diego spot. We will def stay at the hotel next time and come back to this bar for the food, dranks and socialization! :) read more
