Dropped in on a Monday night with my hubby as we're visiting SD. It was karaoke night. Place filled up a bit and seemed like the only place to fill up on the avenue. For a Monday night not bad. Don't go here! We came here on Saturday night during Comic-Con weekend. There were two of us at first, and we each ordered drinks and food. Later, two other friends joined us, and they also ordered drinks and food. We split into two completely separate checks: my friend and I split one bill, and our other two friends had their own bill. So can someone explain why BOTH of our separate bills were charged a 20% large party fee? That makes absolutely no sense. We spent a lot of money there, and then we were charged extra simply because more friends joined us? And no one said absolutely nothing about it. That feels unreasonable, abusive and unfair. Definitely check your bill before paying. read more

We visited Whiskey Girl a few hours before a Padres game and had a great experience. Started with a chicken quesadilla for an appetizer and the chips and salsa. Both were great. Chips came out warm and quesadilla was delicious! I had the $8 game day margarita special and it was REALLLLLY good. Very close to being one of the best margaritas I've had. Definitely don't skip the marg! Southwest chicken salad was HUGE. I mean fullllll entree salad. If you're not that hungry, be ready to take some home or not finish it. I appreciate the portion size, but I know that not everyone wants a big salad like so. We have absolutely zero complaints here! Stopped by for happy hour and there were 4 of us. We shared their nacho plate with steak and corn dog platter. They have a generous serving of the nachos... it was the perfect size for us to share. I'd give it a 7/10. The corn dog platter came with fries... also a 7/10. They have their margaritas on happy hour, which was also good at 8/10. I think the last time I visited this place was back in 2012. yeah, I know... crazy long time! I was so happy to see it's still around and just as fun as I remember. I had a great time all over again. It seems like this is a go-to spot for people to end their night, and it definitely shows. The music is great, and when it comes to drink prices, they're actually pretty reasonable compared to other places you won't feel like you're breaking the bank. Can't wait to come back! read more

Stopped into Whiskey Girl to escape the rain and grab a drink. The spot has definite dive bar vibes; dark, plenty of seating, and TVs with the MMA fights on. We ordered an old fashioned and a specialty cocktail (can't recall the name). We hadn't planned to stay for food, but ended up ordering food since we got sucked into watching the fights: -fried calamari -whiskey burger with tater tots (also served with a whiskey shot) Unfortunately, the food and service were underwhelming. Our waitress was friendly but seemed distracted; we had to flag her down multiple times and it took a while to get the check. Finished plates sat at our table for a long time with no one clearing them, even though we saw some security staff picking up dishes elsewhere. The food was all very salty, fried, and tasted pretty one note. I actually had to stop eating because it just wasn't enjoyable. On the bright side, the people-watching was great, but we did witness some rowdy behavior at the bar (including staff and regulars taking shots, some inappropriate comments, even saw a man in that staff group fall flat on his back with his eyes glazed over). Overall, it was a dry place to hang out and watch the fights, but I doubt we'll be back with so many better options in the area. read more

Great place for happy hour drinks; very affordable. My go to place when I want to go dancing. Good dance floor, great DJ, great music. On weekends after 9pm; there is a fee to enter the establishment and it gets packed!!! Plenty of bars and dance floors near by if you want to hop around and get your jiggy on. I was sad that they took away the arcade games and replace it with more tables and chairs. read more

Whiskey Girl has a great atmosphere and is a fun place to watch sports downtown. The venue itself was enjoyable, but unfortunately my experience was overshadowed by how I was treated. When I asked to open a tab, I was told I had to leave both my credit card and my ID. I wasn't comfortable handing over both, so I chose to pay for each drink individually instead. What made the experience even more frustrating was that I asked several people sitting around me if they had been required to do the same. They told me they had only been asked to leave a credit card, not their ID as well. Whether it was a misunderstanding or inconsistent policy, it left me feeling singled out and disrespected. Because of that, what could have been a great night ended on a disappointing note. It's a nice sports bar, but based on this experience, I don't plan on returning. read more

Found this spot while walking through the Gaslamp Quarter and trying to escape the rain. We were seated pretty quickly and got a feel for the vibe right away. The back area looked like it was hosting a baby shower, while the rest of the bar had their eyes glued to the sports on TV and the UFC fight. We ordered drinks and I went with a safe choice for food: the burger with tater tots and a side of fried calamari. The burger actually came with a shot of whiskey, which was cool, but I did have to remind our server about it. The staff didn't seem particularly busy and spent a lot of time chatting with each other at the bar, which was mildly annoying when we needed service. Overall, it was an okay place to drop into for a casual meal, a drink, and to wait out the rain while watching the fights. read more

While the restaurant itself has potential, our server's attitude and lack of attentiveness made for a very uncomfortable dining experience. We were completely left in the dark after our food arrived--no follow-up check zero communication. Basic customer service etiquette was completely missing; when we explicitly said thank you, we were met with total silence instead of a simple "you're welcome." It was St Patrick's day so every restaurant was packed. We ended up choosing Whiskey girls to eat and drink at. We were seated by a real sweet hostess ( blonde). After waiting 10 minutes for a waitress to come take our drink order ( I know they were busy) the waitress took our order. The food was good, not great. We would probably eat here again when in San Diego. The reason for the 4 was the service and the price of the food and drink. I ordered another beer and 20 minutes later still didn't have it. For two entrees and 4 drinks it was 110.00. That was two beers, two vodkas and a cheeseburger and a wrap. Just be ready for a big check. read more

Every time I pass by this place, it looks and sounds like a party haha. Very loud and lively, which is intimidating for a solo girl. Luckily, a meetup group was hosting their event here so I got a chance to go and get the whiskey girl experience. The atmosphere is a stereotypical bar. The staff that served us were friendly and quick. I ordered the buffalo skillet fries and they were incredible! I ate 75% of the generously sized portion. The back room where we were was a bit cramped to the point where chairs were toppling down repeatedly as staff and guests tried to navigate through. And the menus were really dirty. Other than that, it's s nice atmosphere. Definitely gets extra loud once the live music starts on be forewarned. read more

My wife and I were the only ones in the restaurant for the lunch hour. Now Mind, you this was a Monday afternoon and we had everybody's attention. Our waitress was very friendly but easily distracted by the bartender she never came back to check and see if we needed refills on our water or sodas. The food was mid at best. I would say that the tots were so heavily seasoned with salt that they were unbearable almost to the point where you thought did the lid fall off the salt container. I would've sent them back, but we couldn't get the attention of the waitress as she was still flirting with the bartender. Like I said nobody treated us poorly and I don't have anything bad to say about them personally, other than I just felt like the service was off and the food was definitely off. We had walked by this place a couple times during our stay and visit the gas lamp and decided to give it a try. I think it would be a fun place to get drinks, but I would skip the food. read more

A great spot to watch nfl games, plenty of room and they'll change tvs depending on who is watching. The food is ok but a bit overpriced. Their drinks however are good, and a solid tap list. was visiting town and was walking up 5th when i stopped with my friend to check this spot out. i turned 21 a month ago, the bouncer said my ID was a fake. i told him i'd have to go get my passport cause that was my only ID & he asked multiple different people for confirmation that my ID was fake. they took my ID & told us to leave. i called the place the next day for me to bring my passport and get my ID back and they told me they disposed of it which i dont believe! i understand taking extra precaution to prevent underage from coming in, they could have asked questions only i would know because its my ID. it was a valid CA ID as well so disposing of it is ridiculous. read more

This place was recommended by our hotel receptionist. My wife and I order the half-pound hamburger and fries. The hamburger was very good and the fries came out hot and fresh. I can't go five stars for the burger. It was darn good but just short of five stars. I was surprised at how quiet it was at lunch time, but there were no Padres games or conventions going on. Since it was quiet we got to spend time with our server, Tina. She was so personable and friendly that it was hard not bumping to five stars just because of her. Hands down my favorite and honestly the only bar I go to in downtown. I recently moved here and decided to take myself out the night I moved in, and Whiskey Girl was the first spot I tried. I usually go out solo, which can feel awkward sometimes, but this place made it feel completely normal and comfortable right away. Almost all of the bartenders are amazing (and I say almost because, I definitely have my favorites). The vibe and energy here are unmatched. It's the kind of place where you know exactly what kind of service you're going to get every time and they always go above and beyond. Since I've been going more often, I've noticed the small gestures that really stand out like a few of the bartenders remembering my name and even what I'm going to order. That kind of attention to detail goes a long way and makes you feel genuinely welcomed. I've slowly become a regular, and what stands out most is that they don't give great service just for the tip (even though I tip very well). They really seem to care about their regulars and guests, and you can feel that in every interaction. Coming from someone who works in the industry, I know how much that matters. Sometimes it only takes a small gesture to make someone's day, and they consistently do that here. I keep coming back probably more than I should but I truly enjoy it every time. Karaoke nights (Sunday-Tuesday) are my favorite. The energy is unreal, and the whole bar gets into it. It's such a fun, welcoming vibe with everyone singing along. If you're looking for a spot where you can go out solo or with a group, feel comfortable, and still have an amazing time this is it. read more

Thursday's for Live Karaoke Band!!! This place is a blast. On Thursdays they have a live band with karaoke, and it's such a vibe. The whole crowd was singing along. People were dancing. I've been here quite a few times, and it's always a good time with great service. They're quick to take your order and get your drinks out, even when it's busy. It's just a fun, friendly spot. Definitely one of my go-to places downtown. read more

Came back a little while ago. Wanted to get a quick bite to eat. I was seated right away and surprised to see Fajitas on the menu. It wasn't priced to bad $20 and had a Coke for $3 My server was Debra and she was very attentive and gave me a refill without asking. The fajitas were not bad at all and the flour tortillas were decent as well. I would order them again. Since this was during the day it wasn't very loud at all and I was in and out within 45 mins. I loved everything about this place! Found it while walking around looking for somewhere to eat and have cocktails. It was also one of the only places open at 11am on a Friday in the area. We were in the mood for a burger and drinks and this place did not disappoint! The menu had a good selection of bar food and one of the cocktails on the menu, The Painkiller, was so good!! There is a ton of seating available and the waitress was on it! She was very attentive. Clean place, friendly staff, large TVs that played music videos. We came here on a thur night for karaoke night. It was pretty dead. They have a live band that plays music while you sing. So the songs are limited. It was fun to watch people sing. It's a pretty spacious place. The drinks were decent. We had fun for what it was. I hear Fri and Sat are more crowded and lively. We ordered margaritas, vodka in the rocks and the watermelon slushie. Would NOT recommend. The tables were sticky. We do not believe their beer lines are that clean. They were "Out" of 3 different bottles/canned beers that we asked for to try to avoid the draft beer. Little bugs flying around the bar. We kept getting whiffs of a strong vomit smell. The good side of this place there was not a wait. Good playlist. Came in one 06/22 for my girls birthday and had amazing service: fast, kind, fun. Shoutout to Darien and the whole staff for showing us so much love. Never even knew who my server was because it felt like the whole place was helping us out. Good music, great food and lots of TVs. My girl and I left really happy. 10/10 service. They offer line dancing on Wednesday's, they have three different flavors of alcohol infused slushie's, which are all 3 amazing. Monday-Friday they have happy hour from 3-7pm. The hostess was very sweet and he left fresh clean water for the pups to drink out of while walking the streets :). Our waitress was amazing, we didn't catch her name but she was a white petite young lady with black hair. We were served our drinks and food in a well timed manner and they all turned out delicious! Five of us stopped at Whiskey Girl while on a little day drinkinig adventure. We sat at a 5-top that was plenty large enough to comfortably accommodate us all. Claire with the gorgeous red hair and dazzling eyes was our server and she was great. She was efficient and attentive and was great with drink recommendations. Becky and I stayed with our usual beer and seltzers. Draft Modelo for me, not her favorite, but Bex went with the watermelon White Claw. I can't remember everyone's drinks of choice. I do know that one of our companions had the Spicy Aqua Fresca ( Jalapeño Cucumber tequila/ Cucumber Syrup/ Soda/Sprite Press shaken with cucumber and jalapeño...with a Tajin Rim) She liked it enough to order a second one! Prices were as expected for a Saturday afternoon in the Gaslamp. Service from Claire was great. It was a good time at Whiskey Girl. read more
