Lovely spot in Andersonville with good ambient, it is very busy on a Friday night The food is amazing here! For the appetizers, really liked the grande burrata, the fresh mozzarella is amazing! The Antipasto misto is great too, the cured meat and cheese selections are great. The asparago is great too, loved the grill asparagus, very tasty. For the pasta, my favorite is the Fettuccine Isabella, the squid ink fettuccine is cooked al dente, and the sauce and the seafood compliment it really well. The lasagna is pretty good too The seared sea bass is really good! loved the crispy skin. One of my favorite local Italian places! Great location on Clark in Andersonville. The interior is super cute and classic. My servers have always been friendly, helpful, and very familiar with the menu and wine list. We visited the restaurant bar on Saturday evening when they had a Halloween costume night. It was cool to see costumed customers and staff. Only one disappointment was staff. We had dinner with cocktails and deserts around 9 pm and finished a water bottle which was served per table. She never replaced by a new bottle or served another glass of water after she took the empty bottle away. I did feel she wanted to get off work asap. Their tiramisu was so good though. read more

Bar Roma, a large space with a patio, bar/tavern area and a main dining room which was beautiful decorated! You can almost pick the room you want based on your mood. The space and ambiance is actually well-curated. We visited on a Sunday late afternoon around 5pm, and ordered 2 appetizers, 2 mains and a bottle of wine! 50% off bottles of wine on Sundays! Breakdown of Our Meal: MAIALE MEATBALLS (3) - spicy pork, bacon, rapini, calabrian peppers - Large, tender and really delicious, were good, but wish there was more of the red sauce! FRITTO MISTO - crispy calamari, shrimp, smelt, spicy giardiniera mayo, cocktail sauce - calamari and shrimp were really crispy and fresh - but didn't enjoy the smelt as it didn't taste fresh, personally I think it would have been perfect without the smelt SPECIAL PASTA - pasta in a cream sauce, peas, corn and gem lettuce - was good, but not great, the cream sauce was a bit too thin in my opinion for a cream sauce, and there could have been more of it. The pasta itself, peas and all corn were done to perfection! BEEF SHORT RIB - braised beef, spring vegetables, chianti red wine sauce - tender, but besides that, did not have a ton of flavor, potatoes were perfectly done! We also had a bottle of Villa Pozzi (Moscato White Wine) - which delicious and a great rec by our server Matthew, and just an FYI - all bottles of wine were 50% off on Sundays. Happy hour is also from 4:30-6pm in the tavern (Wednesday-Sunday), although we didn't end up ordering anything off the happy hour menu. Every dish was okay - but nothing to write home about, felt like they all needed some tweaking. Not sure if we just ordered the wrong items, but I wasn't over the moon about any of the dishes. With so many good Italian restaurants in Chicago, trust me there are better options! Unfortunately I do not think I will be back for a second go-around which is a shame because it is so close to where we live! I'd give a 3.5 star rating if I could but am rounding down because the existing rating is 4.5. Nice outdoor seating area. Decent but not special food. Ravioli di spinaci - 3.5/5. Creamy sauce, pasta a bit thick. The sage is very powerful if you get a bite. Parmegiana di melanzane - 3/5. Eggplant parm. Nothing particular distinctive about the sauce. We all opted for the restaurant week menu which consisted of the Salmon, Cacio e Pepe, Meatballs, Pork Chop and the Affogato to end off the dinner! The portions were great sizes too! Salmon - Yes Please! We really enjoyed the texture of Salmon and the seasoning. I would say it's one of the top 5 salmon's I've had in Chicago in terms of texture and flavor. Definitely recommend! The Pork Chop - WOW! One of the best I've had and I am not the biggest fan of pork chop. However, this one was juicy, seasoned well, and really just hit the spot. The sausages served with it were also great. Meatballs (Appetizer) - Yum! Super great, with a non overpowering tomato sauce and really great texture. I would recommend these if you like meatballs. The Cacio e Pepe was also really good, but nothing to rave over compared to those others I've had. Affogato - If you like ice cream and coffee, this is a must! I really like the environment as well. 4 stars is for "Good" and that's how I'd describe Bar Roma. A charming small modern Italian restaurant with a full bar. They run a daily happy hour with discounted drinks and small plate appetizers. Some of the food is a little more inventive than traditional Italian fare, but it is definitely a cute spot for a date. Portions also ere on the smaller size, so don't come here expecting a family-style experience (think more small plates). I recommend trying Bar Roma. read more

Have been here multiple times and always gotten cheerful, efficient service and above-average food. It's a fun place for small groups. I'd like to see more vegan options on their often-interesting menu, but hey, it's Italian, I guess. As it is, I usually wind up having one of their excellent salads. And I've never heard complaints from those enjoying their meat or pasta dishes. The desserts, which tend toward the indulgent, seldom if ever include a vegan option. Again, I know it's Italian, but the cuisine here is more modern than traditional, and a nod to the vegan/lactose-intolerant diners among us would not be out-of-sync in this particular Chicago neighborhood. I have lived near the neighborhood for 3 years and finally last night, I tried Bar Roma. It came highly recommended to me by a friend so I felt like it was worth a shot. First and foremost, both the ambience and service were awesome. The servers were super nice and attentive. I really appreciated that! The ambience was that classy neighborhood restaurant that you crave. Now for the food. It happened to be Andersonville restaurant week, so I got the pre fixe menu. My husband got the Ravioli a funghi and we shared the Manzo polpette. My pre fixe menu started with a fennel salad. It was refreshing and slightly on the sweet side, but overall decent. Probably my favorite was the second dish, which was a cacio y pepe ravioli with shrimp. I would eat this all day! I was sad it wasn't a staple menu item! Plus I respect that they make cacio the traditional way and don't add heavy cream. Next was the chicken parmesan. It was honestly ok. It was good, but I wouldn't say memorable per se. Finally, dessert was their bread pudding. Now, I actually do love bread pudding, but I can't say I was a fan of this one because it reminded me of a bread pudding made of the dreaded 80s fruit cakes my dad used to gift people. The meatballs were listed as Chicago's best. They did taste good, but I think in my mind I hyped it up as being to die for, which they wer3 not. My husband's pasta was quite delicious and I would highly recommend. The chicken was just a touch dry but the sauce could compensate for that. Had a lovely time at Bar Roma! It's a beautiful restaurant and was decorated festively for the holidays. I called on Friday evening and was able to easily reserve a table for 7 people the following night. We all ordered drinks to start - I think the group favorites were the Thyme Off cocktail and the house white wine (generous pours!). It took a while to get our food after we ordered, but we were enjoying the drinks and our waiter kept coming back with more bread :) I ordered (surprise) eggplant parmigiana, which was layered high, topped with arugula, and baked perfectly. It tasted like something out of my grandma's kitchen. My friends also enjoyed the ravioli with sausage and the Fettucine Isabella (squid ink pasta with seafood). It's Friday evening and Clark St. in Andersonville is packed. We were able to be seated immediately at the bar which was very nice. Devin the bartender makes an exquisite roman old fashioned. Glad to see he is back. This was my first time returning post covid and it was nice to feel a sense of normalcy again. But let me tell you - This place is underrated. What a hidden gem!! Had tickets for the Chicago Magic lounge and was looking for a convenient dinner location. Bar Roma is right across on the corner. Was busy for a Saturday night but was still able to get a table. Loved the huddle and bustle of a smaller restaurant in an older building with the smell of a wood burning oven!! And the pasta??? Had reservations and came here on valentines and had a very good meal. Inside the place is so well decorated, loved the exposed brick walls. One side of the bar is communal tables and the other side is more single seperate tables. There was a round table with a lovely big display of fresh flowers. They have an open kitchen which I always like! We had Fritto Misto $12 to start which was fried calamari, smelt and shrimp and was very tasty. For entree's we had hanger steak i had exchanged the creamy spinach for roasted brussel sprouts and crispy potatos. My wife had the pasta with pork cheek ragu. We both really enjoyed. Had the pinot noir which was ok, it came in a mini carafe and a small glass. I do prefer drinking wine out of a proper wine glass rather than something that looked like a small glass for water. There's also a serious meatball menu to cater to different dietary needs or preferences, and the Chicago one was what you want a meatball to be. Well sized portion, noodles perfectly done al dente and incredibly peppery. My friend said it's one of the best he's had because other places skimp on the pepper flavor. My true test of a super good dish is when I'm full but just can't put the fork down. That was the case with this dish. Their beer selection left me wanting more, no draft which is understandable but kind of lame bottled selections. I ended up with a canned Ravinia Wit for $8. We went on a Halloween and were surprised with a free dessert because I was wearing a costume. Yum! Mrs. Incredible thought it was all quite incredible and superhero-worthy. I'll definitely be back! I was recommended by one of my yelp buddies. We all came here for a Girl's Brunch Date. The whole experience was top notch from the food, the unlimited bubbling Mimosa and our host who kept our glasses filled to the rim of bubbles. The unlimited Bubbly Brunch is so well worth the visit and price. The brunch includes any choice from the brunch menu and unlimited bubbles @ a price of $24.00. I ordered the "Eggs Your Way" which included 2 eggs, choice of Canadian bacon or apple wood smoked bacon, breakfast potatoes and a size of toast. The food was well prepared and cooked to perfections. Just a nice warmth atmosphere to enjoy a nice brunch date. Amazing and friendly host who makes sure that you are never without. I wish there was another star to give for this review. Than to top it off the Manager herself came out to our table and welcomed us and surprise us by sending us a nice dessert to our table. It couldn't get any better. We had a great birthday dinner for a friend at Bar Roma on Saturday. Now that we're all vaxxed, we decided it was high time for an in-person celebration. When I asked if there was a place she missed, she said, without hesitation, Bar Roma. She was the only one who'd been there before. Our party of 4 arrived and were seated in the rustic dining room with a view of the open kitchen. Tables were spaced out for COVID, but it was still a little loud (mostly from a nearby table of 8). We started with bruschetta (pronounced bru-SKET-a not bru-SHET-a... and I will fight you), which was delicious, but a little skimpy with only 3 pieces. We also had the Insalata Misticanzi, which we enjoyed. My friend mentioned wanting a meatless meatball that is sadly no longer on the menu. My friend normally gets the pappardelle with oxtail, but decided to live on the edge and get the salmon special, which she loved. Another friend tried the ravioli, which also got a great review. I got the spaghetti aglio e olio, which has lots of spinach and cherry tomatoes. This was great as well. Italian restaurants should know dessert out of the part, but this is where they fell short. We got three. First & best was the olive oil cake . It had like a hint of orange and some spice. Truly lovely. We also got tiramisu and bread pudding, both of which were only OK. The tiramisu was nothing special, and the bread pudding was supposed to be served with dark chocolate, salted caramel sauce, & dark cherries, but there didn't seem to be caramel sauce or cherries. There were, however, raisins. Those were... surprising. It was ok. The ice cream served with it was great, though. Overall, the meal was good, though a little overpriced, and I'd get dessert elsewhere. read more

A fantastic dinner. They have a fun and interesting cocktail list and we took our server's recommendation for the montepulciano and super Tuscan and enjoyed both. The meatballs never miss. The spicy maiale is our favorite. We also enjoyed the stuffed clams, the fritto misto, and the cacio e pepe. All of the flavors are so good and I especially love the giardiniera mayo. Omg what have I been waiting for. This reminds me of growing up Chicago, when old school Italian places just did it right. 10/10 and anyone that follows me on here knows I am a foodie. For starters we had the pork meatballs which were absolutely divine. A little bit rare on the inside just the way they're meant to be melt in your mouth and an perfectly seasoned. My partner got the Insalata Misticanza. We pretty much devoured it in less than a couple minutes. Next we had the tuna and the pork. Turner is a very hard item selecting out at restaurants because it's either too done or too rare. This was just perfect. I had the pork chop and keep in mind I come from Nebraska so I'm very picky about my meat... pork and beef. There's pork shop was thick like a good busker chop. I know this review isn't descriptive enough but I'm still sitting at the table because I was so excited to post these pictures. Btw Alley made our evening. Class act all the way around. Bar Roma always delivers a top-notch dining experience. I have been coming here for years and service is always great, and the food/drinks are always outstanding. Last night our table enjoyed a round of cocktails to start with: the Thyme Off has been a favorite of mine for a while and is very refreshing. For appetizers, we shared the amazing Manzo meatball and the burrata, and I snuck a bit of my husband's soup of the day, which was ham and white bean and was incredible. For my entree, I opted for a special, which was baked rigatoni bolognese: my stomach is rumbling now just thinking about how good it was. We also enjoyed tiramisu and spumoni gelato for dessert. I don't remember which cabernet we had, but it was very good and we ordered multiple bottles! At the end of the night, we enjoyed one more glass of wine at the bar before leaving. We went here for brunch and it was delicious! This is a great brunch spot. First, they have bottomless mimosa carafes which is fantastic, and their cocktails are fabulous as well. The food was great. I love smoked salmon and a good poached egg so I couldn't pass up the smoked salmon benedict. It was delicious. The eggs were beautifully poached. It came with a side of potatoes. Honestly, I'm usually picky about breakfast potatoes...especially if they're thick cubes which these were, but these were perfect! I ate them all which I never do!
