The restaurant is really aesthetically pleasing and the food was delicious. Our waiter was very nice and service was very quick. Only downside the iced coffee was horrible. This review is based on a single visit. My husband and I came here on Friday night for drinks and dinner. Bar service was prompt and my cocktail was tasty- so much that I had a few. When going to be seated to our table hostess seemed a bit off and co fused but was pleasant. We were seated per our reservation. Our server was sweet and attentive. Our food was delicious. Great ambience. The restaurant does get really loud and it's hard to hear your own table's conversation from the noise level. I really wanted to like the food but it was mediocre. The vegan rancheros tasted OK but were two 3 inch tortilla rounds with a mound of food on top on a half empty plate. It would've been really easy to make it three rounds and a handful of salad and have it look more like an entrée. Meanwhile, my friend got a pizza which was very large and she took half of it home and mine cost just as much as hers did. It was bizarre that we had to have such a different dining experiences at the same table. Home fries are nothing exciting. One of my friends got the chicken and waffle and the chicken came uncooked and had to be returned. The restaurant was generous in taking that off the tab and replaced her meal with an appropriately cooked chicken and waffle which she enjoyed. Another friend had a variety of side bites, and the fruit is just cantaloupe and melon. Again underwhelming. There's an opportunity to step up that is not being taken. There are plenty of good restaurants in Richmond - an increasing number from day to day. The spot has already had multiple failed restaurants and I really wish this restaurant would step it up to make this a worthwhile place to go. I finally got a chance to stop in bar solita for brunch. We made a reservation although it wasn't too crowded when we arrived. The ambience is warm and welcoming and it's beautiful decor. The playlist was also excellent which added a nice touch. It took awhile for our server to come. Overall the service was pretty slow and nothing more than minimal. We ordered a pitcher of mimosas. The mimosas were very basic so I would recommend opting for a cocktail. I oredered the honey badger pizza which was very flavorful and met my expectations. My friend ordered chicken and waffles and said her waffle was over cooked and very hard. Overall the experience was okay. I would go back for the honey badger pizza and if a group of friends wanted to go somewhere for a nice "vibe". Definitely worth checking out if you want to eat somewhere trendy (although the food missed the mark). If you're more of a foodie I would skip this brunch. read more

I came here for a friend's bday dinner. We enjoyed the beautiful building, airy atmosphere, and happy hour wines. I ordered the farfalle pasta and a glass of albariño to pair with it. All wines I sipped and, esp the latter one, were ! The abariño had an amazing nose that the dish brought out. To be honest, I wasn't terribly impressed with the food. My dish was filling, but not mind-blowingly amazing at $18. I could quite easily make it at home, but again-- go to Bar Solita for the vibe with friends-- not the best food all of time. My experience at Bar Solita left much to be desired. I was visiting from out of town and while driving down the main strip, I decided to stop in for brunch. The decor is lovely--the space was once a furniture store. It has beautiful high ceilings, cool tones on the walls and large, floor to ceiling windows. However, decor and ambience is only a portion of the dining experience. We ordered the shareable cinnamon roll, the fried chicken biscuit and the breakfast pizza. The cinnamon roll came out first and was very disappointing. It's essentially a round sweetbread slathered with cream cheese frosting and sprinkled with blueberries and diced strawberries. It was missing all of the cinnamony, gooey goodness that one would want in a cinnamon roll. It was also cold, which was disappointing. There's nothing like a hot cinnamon roll slathered in melted frosting. Next, we had the chicken biscuit and breakfast pizza. Of the entrees, the latter was probably my favorite. I wanted to like the chicken biscuit (served with lukewarm fried potatoes) to be good, but the batter was lacking serious salt and other seasoning. Overall, I don't think I'd return to Bar Solita again. It seems like a fun space for bottomless brunch, but if you're a true fan of flavorful, piping hot food, your enjoyment may end with drinks. read more

Not a good experience, food was just ok. A group of us went on a Saturday afternoon. It was not remotely busy, but between the bartender's inattention, to the spotty service, it took 30 minutes (unfortunately, not an exaggeration) to get our drinks. The food took way too long also - not to mention the dirty plates and lack of silverware. Not sure if we had the C-team, something broke in the transition to the day shift to the night shift, or just bad management - but not one of us will come back to find out. Amazing! Came here for brunch and it was great. Our server was the best. She was very polite and patient. Since this was our first time, she explained the menu to us and all of our options. We ordered the mimosa flight and the Flamingo. Ok the mimosa flight.... I was trying to figure out why it was $23... well that's because you get a whole bottle of champagne. WTH! Wow! Worth every penny. The flamingo was great as well and huge!! It's enough to share with 4-5 people. The food was great. We ordered a margarita pizza, shrimp & grits, and pancakes. I spent $20.30 during my visit to Bar Solita, a few days later I go to check my bank statement and was charged $62.30. I called immediately to find out what happened and get my money back and I didn't hear a word back. I took time out of my lunch break again and called the next day and finally got the manager, he did apologize, but my response was HOW did this happen? HOW did you guys charge me $42 more than I spent???? He assured me he would look into it and let me know exactly what happened. Well I never heard back. And I think it's hilarious how they refunded me specifically $42 too.. I mean would it have really hurt to just refund me the full amount due to the inconvenience they caused me by "accidentally" charging me over TRIPLE what I should've been and making me have to take time out of my day to deal with it two days in a row and I still didn't even see it credited back for several days after that. The manager did claim he'd give me a gift card when I did nicely question why they couldn't just refund the entire amount back, but never heard back about that either.... so I guess I'm not getting my gift card OR an explanation as to why I was charged that much to begin with?? So moral of the story is, if you go, yeah the food's good but make sure you have plenty of money in your account in case they decide to charge you triple.. or more.. than you actually spend! I will start by saying it wasn't TERRIBLE, and it's a super cute trendy place, but we were very disappointed with their brunch. We were excited about the sharable cinnamon bun. It looked amazing. It was not....It was dry and really just tasted like dry cake instead of a cinnamon bun. The worst part was the service. We had the first reservation and were the first in when they opened the door, but it oddly took 5 minutes for us to get seated. Nobody came to our table for maybe 10 minutes, then 2 people came and fought over who's table it was (in front of us). We never got refills on coffee, until they asked right before we got the check. It took 15 minutes for our waiter to take a cocktail order, another 15 for the drinks to arrive. After 10 more minutes, our waiter reappeared to take our dinner and wine order. Another 20 minutes passed, so we asked for our wine, as the cocktails were long gone. Respectfully, I never go by other Yelpers reviews when determining where to dine, particularly with newer businesses. Running and starting a new business is very difficult. There are so many variables, most important of which are people and the correct ones. This can effect everything in a business. I want to give such places the benefit of the doubt. We recently had an overnight stay at the Jefferson, and our room wasn't ready, as we arrived an hour early on a Sunday/holiday weekend. (Memorial Day). We were feeling peckish and wanted to try something new nearby that the hotel staff recommended and could shuttle us to, so as not to worry about parking and avoid a schlep. We walked in. People are correct. Beautiful and cool place. Formerly Graffiatto's, a restaurant a top chef contestant opened and that I was also underwhelmed with, largely due to the unbalanced quality/value ratios. I felt the same with Bar Solita sadly. Maybe the space is doomed. Maybe the space needs to be excorcized. Maybe a warlock ate an expensive and under-impressive small plate from the top chef guy/previous owners and put a spell on the building. Beer list: With the over abundance of incredible breweries in the RVA area, most of the choices in drafts and bottles/cans are from afar, with the exception of COTU Pocahoptis. Most all 5% ABV or below. (Sometimes one wants a flavorful sprint to a beer buzz, not a filling "stroll."). Harissa Wings: Poor execution. Wings were not raw, but were simply not cooked enough in hot enough heat. Some of the skin was rubbery vs crispy. When the 2 bone wing does not separate easily=needed more heat/time. Sad choice of name as there were no harissa flavor notes. Breakfast pizza: This is the description: "garlic oil base, breakfast sausage, two eggs, ricotta, mozzarella, bacon, mushroom, red onion and sliced garlic." For all that garlic described, I want to actually taste that there is garlic. Nope. (In their defense, I am a Spaniard). Maybe a tablespoon of each of sausage and bacon went on this 12" pizza. (??) Our pizza, while cooked, definitely needed more time to get the crust crunchy. Service: At 3-PM on a holiday weekend Sunday, there were 2 servers for a very large, albeit only 12-14 clients, restaurant. Round 2 of a from far off beer and bloody mary for m'lady was ordered upon food arrival. The wait was 18 minutes. (???). The server was sweet, but her annoying repeated use of the word "Dear" multiple times during any given sentence was annoying. "How's everything my dears?" Ugh. Just wrapped up the experience with a sloppy bow. With the national and regional attention RVA is getting for the amazing food and breweries, and the proliferation of great dining spots, they had better step up their game. I was really looking forward to coming here but I was kinda disappointed. We started our order with the street corn, very good. And, the spicy tuna bites which had us second guessing if it was fried pork chunks since that's what they tasted like, confusing. It was a Monday night around 7:30, there were only 6 other customers in the entire place and it took 45 minutes to get our food (entrees). I ordered the chicken piccata over mashed potatoes with broccoli. Unfortunately, it was so cold by the time they brought it out to me. My chicken was overcooked. We ordered 3-4 tapas from the menu. The food was dry, overpriced and not worth the money. The drinks took forever to get, and when we did get them they tasted cheap. So overall, I had to wait for a table when there were 2 ppl in the restaurant. The food was overpriced and dry, it was all for the decor basically. It's sad to see a place with so much potential and to fall completely flat. And with this place's history before it was Bar Solita I'd say they'd need a big wow factor to do well. Giving Bar Solita some love here. Not sure what's up with the less than stellar reviews. This place is solid. I've been here several times now and everything has been on point. The space is huge and perfect for larger parties and epic ladies' nights. From the same restaurant group that has brought us Richmond staples like Tarrant's and my neighborhood favorite, Little Saint. The cocktails are fun and showcase the knowledge of craft mixology and the history of cocktails. The Hemingway Daiquri is a standout. Oh and if you are feeling adventurous they have the flamingo bowls which are like giant punch bowls for adults! The food offers a variety of tapas style small plates and loads of Mediterranean inspired dishes. Some of my faves include the feta cheese, falafel, lamb sliders and the patatas bravas...because fried potatoes. These are especially crispy and yum. Although as a recent dining companion pointed out, I'd love the accompanying sauce to have a bit more kick. Haven't been for brunch yet but man, it looks pretty brunchtastic. Naysayers, be damned. Great ambiance, ok service, bland food. Visited Bar Solita as it's listed as one of the best brunch spots in Richmond. When you walk in the place is very inviting with a refreshing decor. We were seated right away. We shared a flamingo drink which came in a huge ceramic bowl with straws and had to request a ladle and glasses. As someone mentioned in another review, in the middle of COVID, this should have been automatic. Warning, this drink is huge and while it says it serves 2-6 people I would not recommend it for 2. We each had about 4 drinks and still didn't even put a dent in it. Initially, I couldn't decide what I wanted to order and then someone at the table next to me got the chicken & waffles. It looked amazing but looks are deceiving. The waffle was very dry. The chicken had way to much breading and was not seasoned at all. To top it off the bacon was not cooked well done. It was a huge portion of food as it came with 1 and a half waffles. Impossible to eat and quite wasteful. I had higher hopes for this place but I was left disappointed. read more

Was in town for work and noticed this place from the hotel we were staying in. The vibe looked good, and the menu online looked pretty good as well. Walked in and was greeted immediately by a really sweet girl. The inside is decorated to the nines! The light fixtures are so neat, and I love a redone industrial building. Our service started out good. She has mentioned there was a party of 70 on the upper level so there'd may be some delay. (No problem) Takes the order... that's where it goes down hill. We waited about 45 mins in some meatballs and mushrooms. The manager came over and said she would comp the tapas. (Redeemed) I still had a pasta dish coming. Another 30mins go by, hasn't see the server or the manager. I had to grab another server for help. Bar Solita was not bad but also not great at the same time. I hate when restaurants split the house and only have HH at the bar only. The drink that I had were not bad but could have been better for how much u are going to spend if your not sitting at the bar. We had a few people come to the table to wait on us and I think they are still trying to figure that part out. They have worked out the decor, I love how it looks inside and the plantings. I just don't think the food that I had meet every expectation that I had coming into this place.
