The Barbacoa is delicious, the mini tortillas are great, the garnish is perfectly fresh, and both hot sauces are good too. It was fun to make our own tacos with all the provided components. You can just order the tacos add they'll make them for you, but we enjoyed building them each differently. It's only open from 7am to 3 pm, so unfortunately no dinner option. read more

Great place for all the right reasons. Price. Quality. Super nice employees. Clean. Order at the counter. Sit outside on shaded picnic tables. A pound of meat and all the fixin's is $14.25. A can of soda is $1. My only complaints: (1) I wish they handed out plastic plates instead of those tiny cardboard 'boats' for your food; and (2) the meat itself was more like mushy stewed beef rather than the hunks of shredded beef with some texture left (which is what I prefer). I've had the 1/2 pound order and I've also tried their consomé. Quick run down: Bomb AF Barbacoa. Best Barbacoa in the city. Authentic Barbacoa. They only serve Barbacoa. Lengthy Rundown: The first time I tried this phenomenal barbacoa was about 2 years ago at a wedding. When they told me they only had a mobile location I was so discouraged because who has time to chase down the taco truck well guess what, it's worth it and it's even more convenient now with their physical location. And side note, I don't particularly favor Barbacoa, I like asada but gente, this Barbacoa is sooooooo good. Aside from the technicalities, the food. Where to begin? The establishment only serves Barbacoa but, they serve it as tacos, in tortas and they sell it by the pound almost like a Rudy's BBQ atmosphere but tacos. I went during a Sunday afternoon rush and still the staff were friendly and the condiments were stocked and well kept and clean! Individual tacos are 1.25 tortas are about 6.00 they have authentic drinks as well, frescos y cosas así. They're super quick, super friendly and they cater. There were a lot of people here at 9 on a Sunday morning but plenty of shaded seating. If you eat it there you can get your own onion, cilantro, and limes from one of two stations. This place is legit. Quality food at cheap prices. We get the family deal for $18 and all 5 of us get at least four tacos each out of it. They are kind and run a great local experience. In the words of Shakespeare, "What's in a name? That which we call a taco by any other would smell as sweet." Well, he would've if he were as food motivated as myself. Any taco lover would know that some places sell okay tacos, others have great tacos, and then there are tacos so exceptional you have to text all of your friends and family to make sure they are aware such a place exists. That is Barbacoa El Primo. I won't lie, I've never had barbacoa before today. I've had asada, I've had chicken, I've had stuff I'm unsure of what animal or part it came from, but never barbacoa, and dear lord have I been missing out. If you haven't either, I don't know how it's made, I just know it's good. It's tender and full of flavor, and, did I mention, it is so so so good. The menu is slim, which I love because you know they do it well. I ordered four tacos, but I wish I got maybe five or six. Tacos are $1.25 per taco, so really you can splurge and get a couple extra. The woman at the counter recommended next time I try the torta which looks absolutely incredible. All of the onions and cilantro and tomatoes were incredibly fresh and vibrant. The salsas were FIRE. The red salsa is crazy spicy and so flavorful. The green salsa has a great amount of heat and flavor. I could just die on the inside. Wash it down with a Mexican coca-cola or other soda. This place is excellent. They recently took over an old Blake's location, and so it's window service with some outdoor seating that is covered to get out of the sun. The humble setting befits the food, which is very simple and very, very good. You get a cup of excellent, tender, fresh barbacoa and a foil packet of a huge stack of small corn tortillas. Then, behind you is a small salad bar type table with onions, tomatos, cilantro, limes, and cabbage to pile into a dish and take to make your own tacos. At the tables they've set out salsa which is very hot and very good, even by New Mexican standards. It's sort of a do it yourself experience, and I'm told a very authentic one, and it is well worth the effort. In addition to barbacoa, they sell a variety of Mexican sodas and aguas frescas and packages of fresh pastries and other items. And they can pack to go, too, which would make this a great place to pick up food for a group. read more
