Where to start with this place!? Absolutely delicious!? My friends raved about this place not too long ago and I knew I had to try it out! As I drove up, the entire establishment is outside. I used to know of this location as Blake's but apparently this establishment has been here for some time now. The ordering process was easy. I knew I wanted to buy for 4 people, so we got the 1 pound meat family meal, small consome (soup) and 3 horchatas. The order was just about $30. When we got home, our order had tortillas, limes, salsas (green and red) *warning: the red salsa is actually pretty spicy!* cilantro, cabbage, onion and tomatoes. We made our own tacos and even poured the consome into little bowls. Some of us dipped the tacos into the consome and it was absolutely delicious! When I think of establishments that specialize in one meat, they must do it good and this restaurant does it great! The barbacoa was so moist and flavorful. One visit and I went back three days in a row. Usually Barbacoa is a little runny not this place. The tacos are solid and hold up strong. I love the do it yourself toppings because I can customize my tacos to what I like. Can't beat the price either! You get sauces red and green chili. Make no mistake they are hot but soooooo good. There is a simple formula that seems underutilized: invest in tastier meat, and you can top the competition. There are breakfast burritos and tacos all over this city, but Barbacoa El Primo has better meat, and so I'll go for their BBs and tacos every time. As different as they are, it's the same way that Bocadillos Slow Roasted clears the competition. The supporting cast - tortillas, toppings, salsas - is also exactly what it needs to be: fresh, vibrant, made to order. Lastly, the prices: $4 breakfast burritos and $1.25 tacos. My husband and I just discovered this place and my only regret is that we haven't eaten here sooner! We have been here twice in one week and have only tried the tacos- they are absolutely delicious! They are tiny but two are perfect for me and four for my husband. I hope to venture out next time and try the breakfast burrito- anything made with that meat has to be amazing! read more

I no longer live in Albuquerque, but when I go back I always purchase a pound or two. When you purchase a pound you get red salsa, green salsa, small tortillas, cilantro, onions, lime, and cabbage. Which is sufficient to have a feast for a small group. The Barbacoa has a fatty/greasy taste that drives my taste buds wild. Not sure how you cook Barbacoa or of its marinated, but that meat is tender and juicy. When you arrive you can tell the spot is jumping, tons of people eating and having a good time. If you enjoy Barbacoa or love a good taco, definitely try this place you won't regret it. It's a decent spot for lunch! I have shared this spot with friends and family and not once has anyone ever complained. They just can't stop eating it! Their menu is simple: barbacoa. So the barbacoa has to be good, right? It is. Not the best I've had, but close. It comes as tacos, tortas, consomme, in bulk or in individual servings. And the fixings -- onion, tomato, cilantro, cabbage -- are consistently fresh. Also, their two hot sauces -- green and red -- are both fiery, but especially beware the red. I love this place.
