used to really love coming to barbarella's as the music is really fun to dance to and the people at the dance floor are full of good energy but my last visit was pretty disheartening. my friend got physically assaulted by one of the bouncers and as one of my other friends got us kicked out for breaking the rules. they singled my friend out and were specifically aggressive towards her. my friend suffers from trauma and was having a full blown panic attack when this bouncer put his hands on her, pushing her and trying to get her to leave. she asked politely for him to stop pushing her so hard and he decided to push even harder causing her to break her nail and she has bruises on her feet as well. this is unacceptable and i am completely disappointed.. read more

I have been here before but tonight was the worst. Got in line to go inside and I could not remember if they had a cover. Once we got to he place to pay for the cover the lady was so rude. They do not take card for cover fee. All I said was "really?" And not in a rude way but she was very rude back to me. I usually come Friday or Saturday. Cheap drinks and cover ($5) compare to other clubs in Houston. Crowd is a miss or hit depending on how many females I find attractive tbh, sometimes I love crowd, sometimes I don't. I went Saturday night with a group of us. I used all cash except 1 time for 35$ that I put on my card. I just looked at my statement and someone decided to give themselves a 7$ tip. Drinks are pretty expensive here and there is a cover so I would suggest pregaming before. Tried to flag down girl at main bar she looked dead at me and helped someone else. I was then able to get the man at the bars attention HE DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO MAKE ANYTHING. Asked for a green tea shot "Can't do that". Asked for a buttery nipple "Can't do that". Decided on getting a vegas bomb which was served in a tiny plastic cup and all I could taste was energy drinks. Next. This is a really fun and nice club to go to. I love the music, the pretty blonde bartender in the back serves great drinks. I've been here twice and both times I've had a lot of fun. Relaxed dress code, you can keep cool on the dance floor and there's places to sit. There's a $5 cover charge, but it's worth it. Except for hip hop night, barbarella is my favorite club in Houston. Anything goes, and the people know how to have a good time. The lighting is sick, the fog machine cools me off when I dance up a sweat, and sweet videos hypnotize me while the DJ rocks the house down. This place is AWESOME. I'm a lover of all things 80's, and nowhere in town seems to have both a good crowd and decent music. So grateful for this place! Most importantly, they play ACTUAL 80's MUSIC on 80's night! None of this techno remix crap, it's real, legit 80's stuff. Even better, this isn't some stuck up, popped collar, 15-dollar-cocktail, hipster douche wagon like so many places in the Midtown area seem to be. The crowd is fun, laid back, and there to dance and have a blast. The drinks are reasonably priced, and the layout of the club is awesome. It was kind of hard to find this place since the sign wasn't very lit up. It's in a questionable area of midtown because there were drunk homeless people harassing us for money on the way back to the car. There was also some guy that helped us parallel park on the street since there was no parking in the front. Barbarella was a very interesting place. We came on a Tuesday for Yeezy night and arrived to a basically empty place and within the hour it was poppin and you could barely move. I was not expecting it to get that lit for a Tuesday. The guys at the door were super chill, the bartenders seemed super serious about their job which is a good thing. This is definitely a hipster club though not an upscale place like VAO or Limelight. Barbarella's location definitely sucks, but that's part of the fun, isn't it? If it were located in a strip mall somewhere with plenty of parking and no local color, it wouldn't have that "Studio 54" vibe the owners were going for. Most of the patrons haven't even heard of the campy space-sex comedy it's named after, nor do they know who "Hanoi Jane" is. The girls who dance here are smoking hot, but aren't over-dressed, stuck-up (w)itches like ones who haunt a nearby club. The street hustlers who live under the Pierce Elevated and skulk down from McDonalds' free restrooms up the street around closing time, seem more menacing than they probably are. But your automobile might not be safe, especially if you park on a side street away from San Jacinto. If you take an UBER to the club, plan on walking across San Jacinto (to the SE) so your driver doesn't have to turn onto McIlhenny crossing over to Fannin to pick you up, or just walk down the block to Fannin but don't cross to the side near Cle', where there is a major traffic jam every night. There are swarms of UBER drivers in the area around closing time, so it's not hard to get a ride home. read more

This is my absolute favorite place to get out and dance in Houston!!!! Hands down! I've never had a bad night at this place and I love dragging my friends here. Drinks are reasonably priced and music is always good! I wish they would change up their theme nights sometimes but I still always enjoy them. 90s music on Thursday's, indie music on fridays, and 80s on Saturday nights. I came here to meet a coworker and initially it seemed like a cool establishment. However, as 2:00 am approached, a staff member confiscated my drink without even asking for permission. This is clearly horrible customer service. My recommendation is to NEVER go to Barbarella, unless you want your drink to be rudely confiscated. read more

Drinks used to be amazing here but tonight, we had makers on the rocks and it really just took me three sips and I was finished...and it was still $7!! Saddest drink in my life. Hahaha I went here with my mom and my family one night, cause she's a straight baller and likes to boogie. The crowd was mostly mid twenties to mid thirties, they played a lot of indie pop on a Friday. The stage is dope, very Eastern European feel to it with the slick icy looking glass. There's plenty of room to spread out. It was definitely a little dirty in there, and the bar tenders were terribly unfriendly. They gave nothing but blank faces and frowns upon just saying hello. So much fun!!! Came to dance for a friend's 30th and we did just that. Bar isn't fancy by all means, drinks were inexpensive served in plastic cups. The dance floor was big enough two level the top one had white floors. Loved the 80's and early 90's music we couldn't stop dancing. The bar was great but the door person "Gabby" processed to charge me double for entry because I was 20 minutes late to pay my cover even though there was a line to the atm. I tried to explain the situation that with the line it took a bit longer to get back with her even tho she had my ID as collateral. She charged me double which was beyond egregious as I'm a consummate consumer. I'm usually a regular patron but this marks my last visit to Barbs and I will recommend all my friends and associates visit any other bar than barbs, my friends love this establishment but we will definitely take our business elsewhere from now on. read more

Had one tab the whole time I was there but was some how over charged around 70 dollars when I looked at my statement online. Was charged once for 74 dollars charged another time for 1 dollar and another time for 16 dollars. My actual tab should've been 16. I get they were busy and mistakes happen but under no circumstance should one tab have three different charges with three different prices. I've been going to this place for 4 years and not once have I had an incident until tonight. Me, my girlfriend and her friends decided to go to 90s night and everything was going fine until I stepped out to walk her to her car. I walked up to the bouncer who checked my arm for the stamp and let me go in and before I could reach the door; one of the bouncers tells me that I'm banned and I cant go back anymore. I ask him why and he tells me that me and some "friends" of mine were being rude and disrespectful to a bouncer and threw a beer can at him. I tell the guy i was nowhere near barbarella last Saturday. Not one of those bouncers were there that night and refuse to call one of their employees so I call my girlfriend and she tells them we were not there that night. He refuses to back and tell me that me and the guy were a black shirt and that we looked alike. I was racial profiled and refused entry inside. I don't know his name but hes an Asian guy who has blonde highlights and tattoos on his left arm and wears glasses. I've always sung the praises of this place to EVERYBODY and now they treat me like this because YOU assume I'm the guy because we look alike. I hope to get ahold of the manager or owner to tell them this because I was racial profiled and wrongfully accused of something I did not do AT ALL. read more
