We ordered a large pizza and cheese bread for carry-out for the first time. The staff is extremely pleasant and helpful both on the phone and in-person. The order was correct and fresh/hot. The pizza was very flavorful and reminded me of old school Italian pizzeria pizza. Great tasting sauce and cheese. The crust was just right. The food was so good. We had a beef pasty it had such a familiar flavor. I cannot wait to take my family there. The pizza was really good as well. We had pepperoni bacon and onion on top. I purchased pasties in the UP decades ago while deer hunting. I was delighted to find Barb's & purchased pasties for our hunting party when we started hunting in the LP in 1996. The product has continued to deteriorate, in quality, over the years. The product has become just AWFUL!!! I stopped in at Barb's Pasties today bought and bought a chicken pastie and gravy for my hubby who loves them. Love that you can buy them hot or frozen. Their pasties are always excellent. I also bought a container of chili and a piece of carrot cake. The chili is really good. The carrot cake's frosting is excellent. Wish I could say the same for the cake itself but for me it was disappointing. I've definitely had better. Can't wait to try more of their stuff in the future. read more

Not sure what people LOVE about this place. The pasties were dry, bland and just overall nothing that great. 10% meat, 80% potatoes, 10% bread. At $10 a pop, not worth it. $5 or less possibly. The pizza was so basic lots of cheese and the bread/crust was just ave pizza joint. For a large 2 topping pizza at $28, come on. I'd go to a legit Italian pizza place vs this spot for very basic pizza. read more

I have been going to Barb's for years NEVER an issue till today. I asked if I could pay cash and card no big deal if they said no it would have been fine. But they accepted two payments so I gave her the cash and she told me the balance. It didn't sound right, it wasn't a lot of money just the point. So I said that doesn't sound right to me. She said yes it is and just blew me off. She asked if I wanted a copy of the receipt and I said yes so I could look at. Sure enough as I thought and said I was owed money. I went back inside to show her the math. She gave me the refund but no apology or any communication other then the money is refunded to your card! The other issue was whenever I order pasties they ask if I want gravy. I wasn't asked so I thought to myself oh she just included it well shame on me I didn't look in the bag till I was home in auburn hills. I finally can write a review for this place - I tried their pizza back in May, through a promotion with Church of Clawson, but because I had never been to the actual storefront I hesitated on writing a review. From that experience, I would give the pizza 4 out of 5 stars. It's nothing extraordinary but I got a pepperoni pizza and it was huge. I probably got about four servings out of it. Fast-forward to last night, when my boyfriend and I had been thinking about trying Barb's for a while and we decided that yesterday would be the night. Masks are required and they have a sign stating so on the door. Only three customers are allowed in at the same time, as well, which is good because it's a very small place. A fellow Clawson friend recommended the beef pasties and also the carrot cake. I got us one beef pasty, one chicken pasty, and the carrot cake to split. We both agreed that the beef pasty was better, but the chicken one was decent as well. As for the carrot cake... It was as excellent as my friend had promised it would be. To preface, I'm not a big fan of carrot cake in general, except for the frosting, but I ate my entire half of the piece. The piece is gigantic as well, so it's definitely worth the approximately $4 price. Overall I'm not a huge pasties person, so I won't be rushing back to Barb's, but it's nice comfort food, especially in these times. If you're looking to try pasties or support a local business with your pizza order, I would recommend Barb's. There's also free parking to the left of the building. read more

Funny how you pass a business dozens of times over many years with the sincerest intentions of checking them out; Only to never get around to it. So goes my history with Barb's. Not anymore. It's a tiny little place right on the west side of Main St. Keep eyes open or you'll miss it. Park on the south side of the building. Follow the incredible smells to the front door. These pasties are a true treat. Baked fresh daily, we felt it necessary to try the beef and the chicken. Both were terrific. Even better with the gravy. These masterpieces are ginormous, pippin' hot and obviously assembled by experienced pastie masters. A bit pricey but not when you consider the excellent value for the cost. If you're a glutton they also offer fresh baked cookies. On our next trip to Clawson, we will try the pizza and a sub. Pasties are a Cornish specialty, from SW England, but are popular all over the UK. They're also - bizarrely - made in places like Montana, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan. As legend goes, they were eaten by tin miners, who wanted a way to take their food down the mine shaft and still be able to eat it. Genius. So, Barb's. Wow. Just wow. Definitely the best pasty that I had in Michigan. These things are originally from England but even in England it's hard to find a really really good one. This however is a really really really really really good one. Excellent crust and delicious generous filling which is not too dry like most pasties. And they even give you some gravy on the side. It's twice as big as most pasties, and is one of the best I've ever had - easily the best I've had outside England. Excellent service as well. Really nice people in here. One of the absolute most important stops in the Detroit area. Whatever you do, don't miss out on this one. And I love these Pasties so much, that it's time for a rap about them. A rap, not a wrap. This was stop #2 on our circle tour of the tri-county area. And we thought we would stop for dinner items. My wife wanted a chicken pastie with some gravy. And I chose a beef one with gravy as well. VERY lovely staff as it were a couple of older ladies. My eyes then migrated to the deserts and I set eyes on a piece of Carrot cake. Purchased that as well and thought, "it's carrot cake. Can't be all that bad." Warmed the pasties in our countertop oven for about 15 minutes until they were nice and warm. Cut them open and my god.... It was like being in the UP. Filled with potato, carrot, meat, flaky crust.... Dip a fork full into the gravy and you have heaven. Seasoned ever so slightly as to not offend. The cake. Ok, THE CAKE. I have had carrot cake in the past that was dry, over sweet, not enough frosting, etc. This cake was a slice big enough for two. This cake was moist and not TOO sweet (as you come to the pinnacle of the experience, the frosting). It's a lovely balance of sweetness from the delicious frosting to the spice and sponginess of the cake. Perfect ratios. Get a slice, won't be disappointed. We love Barb's! My husband introduced me to this place back in the late 90's and it's been a favorite since then. We usually stick to the chicken pasties with gravy and we are never disappointed. The antipasto salad with their dressing is a must, along with the carrot cake...and the cookies. Surprisingly, we have never tried the pizza. This review is solely based on their pizza. I haven't had the opportunity to try one of the (so I've heard) fabulous pasties they offer...yet. However, their pizza is a family favorite. My dad usually calls in and asks for the pizza to be well done for that perfected crisp crust. They're generous on the toppings, everything always tastes fresh and they serve the curly pepperoni (my absolute favorite)! Another thing we all like is that it isn't too oily from the cheese. I have lived up the street from here for the better part of eight years and have not been here once. Man, I am such an idiot. I have had a couple of people tell me this place and how they have incredible pasties. I wasn't sure what a Pastie even was. I read a review on yelp by Susan M, and she described it as a "dried-up stew in pie form." She also described it as "moist with plenty of filling." So I decided today was the day. I went to their website and ordered online. I was impressed that you can use apple pay on their site. I ordered the beef pastie with brown gravy and a couple of peanut butter cookies. I went and picked up my food. It was ready when they said it would be, so bonus points for that. Also, the lady who gave me my food was nice. I am driving back home, and I can smell the Pastie, and it smells wonderful. I get home and cant wait to bite into it, and when I did, I was not disappointed at all. It was delicious. I am so disappointed in myself that I have not been here sooner. I feel like getting some of the frozen pasties for later would have been a nice lunch on a cold Saturday during the winter. Me and my wife flew all they way from California for a pasty. My grandma used to make them for me homemade as a child and now she can no longer make them. Going to Michigan I was definitely going to get one and found Barbs. Definitely was so happy we stopped here. We picked up beef pasties to-go. My husband and I love pasties, and we always look for new places to try them. We can now stop searching for the perfect pasty because we have found it here at Barb's. The pasties are very generous in size and density and contain the perfect ratio of beef, potatoes, and onions. The crust is sublime. The pastie was a perfect balance of veggies and beef. The vegetables had been cut in small chunks. That is how I like them. The beef was pure heaven in taste. The crust was the best. I lived the first half of my life in the UP and the pasties at Barb's are every bit as good as the best you can get in the UP - better than most of the pasties you get up there. Generously sized too - I once bought a batch for some coworkers visiting from Mexico and the first comment was "this is the size of four pasties" (the city they are from has pasty shops, to my surprise). Pasties are usually the only thing I get there because they are made so perfectly, but tonight my wife and son wanted pizza so we got the super square. It's a winner. It has a thick fluffy crust like Detroit style but the crust outer edge is more like a regular round pizza - no "deep fried" texture. My wife prefers this style, so it's finally a thick pizza we can all agree on. read more

Awesome pasties shop that reminds you of the U.P.! Passed it many times so my guest and I decided to give it a try. A small lot and small location. There is only one table and a bench located inside (not sure if they have outdoor seating when it gets warmer or not) so take whatever you get to go! My guest got one of the original pasties and I got a personal pizza. It's all made from scratch, so the wait is definitely worth it. They have a bunch of deserts and other items too that we would like to try next time. The pastie was so soft and delicious and the pizza was also really good! I meant to write this yesterday. I normally walk my daughter's dog around the Clawson main Street areas. When doing so, it is typically early or late and most places won't let you take or any other animal in. The one place I keep wanting to check out is Barb's and try a pastie. Well yesterday I poked my head in, but with the dog nothing more. I told her if she packaged it up and brought out to me I would love to try one. Which she did with a smile.
