Two beef pasties (hot) with beef gravy
    Tab A.

Barb's makes the BEST beef pasties in the Lower Peninsula, period! These are authentic pasties made from a copper country recipe that is guaranteed to please. If you're light eaters one pastie will serve two. The gravy is a necessity, it's silky smooth and adds even more flavour. Some like ketchup instead of gravy, to each his own. The insides of the pastries are moist with excellent beef and vegetables. The crust is to die for. Very small and casual take out place. No tables I could see. Great and quick service. Pasties are available hot or frozen. They also offer stuffed cabbage , chili (seasonal), salads and pizza . Do not forget the carrot cake, it's delightful! If you're a fan of beef pasties you will not be disappointed. A family owned business since 1980. barbspizzaandpasties.com

Was so excited to get my first pastie from Barbs, but was very disappointed when it was more beef flavored than actual beef in the pastie. Showed my friend and he said they had a lot more beef back in the day.

I finally can write a review for this place - I tried their pizza back in May, through a promotion with Church of Clawson, but because I had never been to the actual storefront I hesitated on writing a review. From that experience, I would give the pizza 4 out of 5 stars. It's nothing extraordinary but I got a pepperoni pizza and it was huge. I probably got about four servings out of it. Fast-forward to last night, when my boyfriend and I had been thinking about trying Barb's for a while and we decided that yesterday would be the night. Masks are required and they have a sign stating so on the door. Only three customers are allowed in at the same time, as well, which is good because it's a very small place. A fellow Clawson friend recommended the beef pasties and also the carrot cake. I got us one beef pasty, one chicken pasty, and the carrot cake to split. We both agreed that the beef pasty was better, but the chicken one was decent as well. As for the carrot cake... It was as excellent as my friend had promised it would be. To preface, I'm not a big fan of carrot cake in general, except for the frosting, but I ate my entire half of the piece. The piece is gigantic as well, so it's definitely worth the approximately $4 price. Overall I'm not a huge pasties person, so I won't be rushing back to Barb's, but it's nice comfort food, especially in these times. If you're looking to try pasties or support a local business with your pizza order, I would recommend Barb's. There's also free parking to the left of the building.

Their statement says it all. "Long-running, family-owned eatery serving beef, chicken & vegetarian pasties, plus pizza & subs." Funny how you pass a business dozens of times over many years with the sincerest intentions of checking them out; Only to never get around to it. So goes my history with Barb's. Not anymore. It's a tiny little place right on the west side of Main St. Keep eyes open or you'll miss it. Park on the south side of the building. Follow the incredible smells to the front door. These pasties are a true treat. Baked fresh daily, we felt it necessary to try the beef and the chicken. Both were terrific. Even better with the gravy. These masterpieces are ginormous, pippin' hot and obviously assembled by experienced pastie masters. A bit pricey but not when you consider the excellent value for the cost. If you're a glutton they also offer fresh baked cookies. On our next trip to Clawson, we will try the pizza and a sub. An added treat for me is my friend of over 30 years, Kathy, picked up some hours working here during her retirement. Stop in and be sure to tell her Steven E. said hi and see if we can surprise her. Lol. 2/20

As a New Haven pizza fan, the REAL kind, I was extremely disappointed. I know that after having eaten the real New Haven (Pepe's, Sally's, and Modern), I need to tighten down my expectations, but come on! They have these beautiful ovens, a nice, clean, and pleasant place and they turn out what I would consider pizza no better, perhaps a little less good than Hungry Howies thin crust pizza! New Haven is supposed to be crispy and chewy, NOT soggy. I tried Farmington Hills a few months ago and ate in, then last week tried Birmingham and carried out. For those of you thinking that my carry-out experience may have been bad due to the 3 miles I had to drive home, but I've carried out a LOT of pies from a LOT of locations, and I DO take that into account. There are some positives: The ingredients were impeccable. Fresh, high-quality cheese and the mushrooms were done really well. The pepperoni was of good quality but nothing worth writing home about. There are a lot of great pepperonis in the area. The doneness was great. It wasn't over- or undercooked. The flavor was good, but not, as some have said, amazing. In both cases, the crust was limp and soggy, NOT chewy and crispy. Not in the least. I don't mind if it's a little bit floppy, but not like this. An analogy I might give is to compare Tomatoes Apizza to Modern Apizza in actual New Haven is like comparing Jets Pizza to Loui's. Jet's is fine, but Loui's! (If you know, you know). To me, Modern in New Haven is at par, and not to be sacrilegious to our beloved Detroit Style, with Loui's or Palazzo Di Pizza, so it's not a style issue. My two experiences were both the same, so I don't know what to think. I'll give them one more try at some point.

I will preface this by saying I didn't order a pizza. That being said I ordered the grilled cheese…read morewhich touted mozzarella, pesto, baby spinach, and sun-dried tomatoes on sourdough. I opted for the garlic fries upcharge, bringing my total to $19.00. Somehow I justified it because I like these toppings and these toppings weirdly weren't available on a pizza. Or at least I didn't see it via the phone based ordering system. Yes, that's right, this is all of the future check with wrist bands and pour your own beer situation. Don't look for a paper menu, they ain't here. My sandwich wasn't a grilled cheese. It was basically pesto toast with large sun-dried tomatoes and scraps of mozzarella. Baby spinach was just missing. I did inquire to the host (perchance the only actual employee?) and he did talk to the kitchen and I guess they were out. With that information I turned to my friend Robert and said, "You know why we have servers? So they can let you know they're 86 spinach." I suppose I would have adjusted my order had I known this too. What's nuts is, they have ingredients to make a better grilled cheese. I mean, step one: add cheese. Why not mix the ricotta and pesto together and then add like havarti or something that may actually melt and have flavor. The sun-dried tomatoes should be sliced smaller. The garlic fries were fine, but also could have had more flavor. Robert's and neighboring table's pizza looked fine. Is it better than any other place offering Detroit style pizza? Hard to say. I guess I'm not in a hurry to go back. The kind host did make an adjustment to my bill for lack of spinach--but having a server would have prevented that being necessary.

I was heading home hungry when I passed Elephant & Co, a restaurant I had on my radar for months…read more It was way past lunch and well before dinner, so I was surprised by the steady stream of customers in this pizza/tap/game room, a difficult genre to define. Upon entering, the staffer explained the set-up to enjoy a variety of beers, poured and priced by the volume. Located at the back of the restaurant, customers can select beer flavors and serve themselves, no bartender needed. A tab is started and charged based on usage, tracked through the wristband provided to you. I ordered over mobile via a QR code, selecting pretzel sticks with beer cheese dip and a large, Detroit-style pizza. The soft pretzels were tender with a lovely crusty exterior. I inhaled the first pretzel since it was past lunchtime, savoring the salty, cheesy bites. I must admit, the pretzels' saltiness temporarily affected my taste buds because the pizza had little flavor, even with the pepperoni, sausage, and olives. I definitely did not taste the hot honey drizzle. I want to praise the light, airy crust. For a deep dish pizza, it did not sit heavy in my tummy. I also appreciated that the pizza was served on a rack, to allow air circulation and to prevent sogginess. The space was dark and had both large communal tables and smaller, intimate tables. This allowed for larger groups to enjoy community beyond a friend group. The other plus is the board games that are available to pass the time while enjoying various beers.
