Prices here haven't gone up too much over the past few years and the custard tastes just the same. For me it's the right amount of egg richness and creaminess that makes it work, especially for the vanilla. One of their competitors up the road is WAY too eggy IMHO, so I come here. I'm disappointed Sanders Hot Fudge is gone, and it'd be nice if you found a superior equivalent, but I feel like you guys prob use some kind of stuff you get at Gordon's. I stopped into this ice cream shop expecting a sweet treat, but instead left with a bad taste in my mouth. While I was paying with quarters, the owner actually came out from the back, interrupted the transaction, and told me, "We don't have time for that." Excuse me? Last I checked, U.S. currency is U.S. currency, and as a paying customer, I deserved a little patience and respect--not to be rushed or embarrassed in front of other customers. The tone was condescending and completely unnecessary. Between the rude attitude and the lack of basic courtesy, I won't be returning. Have been to this establishment many times but this last time left me a little bothered. My husband and I both ordered medium sized sundaes and the bill was almost $12.00, plus tip. When we got our order, one was medium sized and the other was small. When I went back to let them know that I had ordered a medium, the young woman who waited on us, told the older woman behind the window what I had said. The older woman said that we paid for one medium and one small but could not (or would not) offer up a receipt to prove that. The experience left a bad taste in my mouth. So the ice cream is ok! The problem is the staff/owners that work there! Rude, rude, rude!! If they screw the order up, they make you (the customer) the one at fault!?! Responding with a NASTY SNIPPY remark. They do not fix it and send you on your way with an eye roll. WHAT?? Childish!! Or they screwed up yet again, and the old guy barks at you 'that isn't what you paid for get back to the end of the 20 minute line'. Such entitled arrogance! Total jerks! Not bad at all. It's a pretty dense and rich frozen custard, and by that I mean that you don't need as much of it as you think you will in order to be satisfied. If you're thinking of ordering a medium, order a small instead. It'll be plenty. My cousin and I tried them tonight for the first time ever after having been told to go here by another cousin who used to live in walking distance from it. It was basically next-in-line service on a Monday night, and I've gotta be honest: they haul the mail in this place. Once you order, it does not take long at all to receive your confection. And it's good! It may not change your life, frozen custard-wise, but it will certainly provide a pretty rich and dense custardy experience for you. My cousin got a medium chocolate cone, and I got a medium caramel (incorrectly spelled "carmel" on their menu) sundae made with vanilla, minus the whipped cream (but I was kindly asked if I wanted it, and declined). Both were fully consumed and enjoyed, but we both agreed that a small portion would have been sufficient to satisfy us. There's some sidewalk-adjacent seating for enjoying your treats, if you can find some room available, which we did. I would suppose that on busier nights it's far more difficult to acquire that kind of real estate from the lookie-loos who want to watch the pseudo-Dream-Cruisers rev/drive on by in their douchebagmobiles, which I can only believe ticks off the neighbors something fierce due to the decibels. Still: that's not Custard & Co.'s fault at all...but it does tend to wear on you a bit when you're just trying to relax and eat your frozen custard in relative peace. Prices were OK. Each of our treats was around $4-5, and my sundae was plenty big and very well "carameled". It's not the best caramel you're going to find (both DQ and McDonalds are better for certain), but the frozen custard is really the draw, here, and that's just fine. Still: it's odd when I end up throwing away leftover caramel. Almost feels like blasphemy/heresy. Napkin dispenser is on the exterior counter (so you don't have to ask the employees for them, which is nice) and there's ample garbage bins for your waste. It's a nice little streetside window kiosk of sorts, and plenty efficient. Not a bad recommendation from our cousin at all. My apologies for forgetting to take pictures. read more

Aww shoot I ate my custard too fast I couldn't even snap a picture. This happened not once, not twice, but every time I go there. The custard here is just SO good I literally have dreams about it. They have a huge selection of goodies! I usually go for just the plain custard. The vanilla I think is thick, creamy, and amazing. That chocolate though... yeah, life changing. Every now and then I will get their version of a blizzard and add brownie and cookie dough (this is usually when I forget to bring cash) and although I do this these are delicious I don't think they mix it well enough. The "blizzard" ends up just being custard with huge chunks of add ons not really mixed in. If I can remember to bring cash and not just my card the plain vanilla custard or chocolate is my go to. Back to the not bringing cash. This place has a $5 minimum on credit cards so usually if I don't bring cash I just order something more expensive. Highly recommend this Woodward gem. I love custard...way more than frozen yogurt and this place has great custard! I decided to get a chocolate custard with hot fudge sundae. My sundae came out...chocolate custard, hot fudge and whipped cream--no nuts! I said "oh you forgot the nuts" at which point she turned to the cashier and asked the-did she pay for nuts? I replied I got the sundae, sundaes come with nuts. The other girl said "no, nuts don't come with our sundaes." Well that was a strange sundae experience. If I could only give this joint a Zero star rating. My precious nephew & I were walking one of my sisters dogs from our home in downtown Birmingham & he wanted some Custard. I only had my IPhone on me & I instructed him to order whatever his heart desired. I was exhausted & overheated because we had spent the day together at the beach. The old woman with grey hair proceed to belittle my appearance, my nephew, and even my sister Amy Andrews. They literally took the $4 soft serve cup out of Jack's hand and proceeded to belittle myself and my 14-year-old. They told me to get the fuck out of there and that I was not welcome. They told me to go someplace that I could afford ice cream. I'm so glad that she was being a complete condescending *itch because I have the entire incident on my phone. We went to Custard Co for the first time last week. After hearing rave reviews, we decided to make the one hour trek out to Dearborn, and it was well worth the drive. The young ladies were very helpful as we decided what to get. We are huge Disney World fans, so the choice was obvious - we had to try the Pineapple Dole Whip. It was refreshing, and was perfect on a hot summers day. One of us indulged in a chocolate custard cone dipped in toasted coconut, the custard was creamy and smooth and delish and the toasted coconut was the perfect compliment. Lastly, one of us tried the Loaded Drumstick Cup, it was decadent and delicious. The best part was there was no need to cook dinner that night, because the satisfying custard filled us up! read more

Cute little place in a strip mall off Woodward is the best way to describe it. Parking is not the greatest and there is not a lot of seating or relaxing area to enjoy your custard. Came here during the afternoon on a Friday in the summer and was a little busy but the line was not bad. My friend ordered a custom blizzard while I stuck with banana-rama. The small was a good size and the custard was delicious. $5.00 minimum charge on a card which is better than other mom and pop places who only take cash. read more

As far as my wife and I are concerned, ice cream and custard need to be in their own food group! Given this opinion, we have tried and consume a large amount of ice cream and custard every year, especially in the summer! In my opinion, Custard & Company has the hands-down best custard in the area. And believe me, we've tried just about all of the places around Royal Oak, Ferndale, and the surrounding areas. Portions are huge. Custard is amazing! Plus it is right next door to Al's Famous Deli, so you can get dinner and dessert. Just about the only thing that Custard & Co doesn't have that knocks my socks off is the butterscotch dip.
